Chapter Text
The proposal was immaculate.
When Avocado had unveiled the custom, handmade sword with their initials on it?
Pomegranate was over the moon. Metaphorically. She was getting better at these not literal phrases, actually.
It was the first time in years that she had nearly cried.
And once they embraced under the tree of wishes, surrounded by family and friends and all in between, she felt a sense of belonging.
Something she hadn’t felt since she had been involved with the other pomegranate priestesses.
“This is it,” she thought. ”This is my solace.”
The solace, her sole respite from the constant need to please Dark Enchantress, was her. Avocado had somehow charmed her way into the heart of a woman whose entire personality revolved around being alone.
Somehow, she had done it. They had found their way to each other, and that was enough for Pomegranate to be truly content.
…And then came the planning. Oh, heavens, the planning. After the proposal, Avocado insisted upon a wedding. Pomegranate didn’t quite see the need for such a large gathering, but maybe it could be worth it. She’d never appeared in other weddings, so this would be interesting…seeing as she would be playing the part of the bride.
Avocado, being the overachiever she was, decided to make this wedding ‘special’. That, of course, meant inviting most of the kingdom. Literally every resident was going to be there. In her words, it was because she wanted the first wedding of the kingdom to be memorable.
Despite Pomegranate assuring her, over and over again, it would be memorable no matter what. Though she could see where Avocado was coming from, it didn’t change the amount of planning.
It ended up taking several all-nighters, over a hundred late night phone calls to Wedding Cake, entirely too many bank statements, and a whole lot of stress to put things together.
But after about 8 months of meticulous planning and creativity…it was time.
It was time for the final prep. And then, the big day.
COUNTDOWN: 1 WEEK UNTIL CEREMONY
“Babe, I’m telling you. It’ll be fine. I’m sure she’ll-” Avocado tried to reason.
Once Dark Enchantress got word of the wedding, she demanded an invitation.
Meaning the stress had doubled for Pomegranate.
“It cannot be simply ‘fine’, it must be perfect! Everything must be perfect. Otherwise, it will not meet her expectations!”
Pomegranate was panicking. That much was painfully obvious.
Everything in her life centered around Dark Enchantress; it couldn’t just be ‘fine.’
And the stress is interrupted by a phone call. From the topic of conversation herself; Dark Enchantress.
“..Pomegranate Cookie speaking.” Pomegranate said calmly. Entirely too calm for what had just been happening.
“Ah, Pomegranate. I have a request.”
Oh no. A request? What could that possibly be?
“Proceed.” she replied.
“Seeing as you do not have a mother figure to be…present, at the wedding, may I assist you in that aspect?”
…
Well.
That was unexpected. But it does solve that issue.
Pomegranate had been running the whole ‘no mom’ issue by herself. But now?
That…could be solved. By Dark Enchantress.
Somehow. Even though it went against everything Dark Enchantress stood for, she was offering- no, requesting, to fill the role of her disciple’s mother.
“I accept this request. We will give you the details as soon as possible.” Pomegranate stated.
Avocado’s head shot up. She began to mouth “Are you sure?” to Pomegranate, to which she received a shaky nod.
“Excellent. I will look over the plans. I have not a doubt in my mind that this will be entertaining. And yes, I will remain civil with the cookies of the kingdom, albeit for this event alone.” Dark Enchantress said.
And then she hung up, leaving the two women in a tense silence.
“Pompom, what did you just agree to?” Avocado asked with a tense, rather nervous expression.
“Dark Enchantress wants to fill the role of my mother.” Pomegranate blurted.
Avocado paused.
“...What?”
And then, a slow smile spread across her face.
“Wait…that’s great news! You were missin’ one of those!”
Then, almost immediately, Avocado dashed toward Pomegranate with one swift motion, and pulled her into a loving embrace.
Pomegranate returned the notion just as quickly.
COUNTDOWN: 4 DAYS UNTIL CEREMONY
Dark Enchantress showed up to the venue early. The aforementioned venue, as it turns out, was the kingdom commons. A place that Dark Enchantress was definitely not welcome in.
She showed up with Pomegranate by her side, subtly judging the place.
Once Pure Vanilla saw Dark Enchantress, he (reasonably) panicked and freaked out.
“What on EARTHBREAD is SHE doing here!?” He practically screamed. He then went into a coughing fit due to Dark Enchantress blowing a puff of smoke from who knows where into his face. Luckily, Avocado was there to mediate.
“Aye, relax! Er…she said she’d be civil for the wedding. Once it’s all over, you can go back to bein’ enemies. Cool?” Avocado explained nervously.
It was clear she was rather on edge. Who wouldn’t be? She’s literally the evil dictator of their world. But on the other hand, she was…family. Sort of. Maybe. Not really.
Pure Vanilla shot a death glare at Dark Enchantress, then sighed.
“I suppose if Pomegranate trusts you, then we may be civil. Just this once. But if you dare hurt any residents of this place-” Pure Vanilla began.
“Yes, yes, I’m aware. I’ll have all of Earthbread on my tail, new enemies, more war, etcetera. I won’t cause trouble for this wedding. You have my word.” Dark Enchantress assured.
“...What role would you be playing in this ordeal?” Pure Vanilla inquired skeptically.
“Mother of the bride.”
Pure Vanilla blinked.
Once.
Twice.
Then, a resigned sigh.
“You do realize Pomegranate isn’t…” he trailed off.
“Related to me? Yes. But that won’t stop me from stepping in when it truly matters. It would be such a shame to see her without support on her wedding day, hm?”
“I suppose that would make sense. But we will be keeping an eye on you, to ensure that no shenanigans occur.” he explained sternly.
…
That went better than expected. Pure Vanilla didn’t immediately throw hands.
It’s the little things that count.
COUNTDOWN: 3 DAYS UNTIL CEREMONY
It hadn’t even been one day since Dark Enchantress’ arrival, and all four of the ancient cookies were on edge. Pure Vanilla was nervous, Hollyberry was a bit unnerved, Dark Cacao was…brooding, apparently, and Golden Cheese was fuming.
They weren’t taking the news well, it seemed.
But the clock was ticking.
No time to waste. There was a wedding to set up.
With the help of one extraordinarily gifted Wedding Cake Cookie, the venue was fully decorated within hours.
She had a specific vision in mind, going with traditional Pomegranate decor with accents that are unique to the kingdom itself.
And by the end? It was beautifully made. Perfectly crafted to fit what Pomegranate had envisioned.
The tree of wishes was also a key part. Menthol Cookie would be officiating, after all. They set up the altar in front of the tree.
The same place where Avocado proposed.
Dark Enchantress was also surprisingly helpful. Making subtle, yet immaculate changes to the decor. Things like accuracy with the decor, offering color scheme advice, and overall being rather civil.
This was a shock to one enraged Golden Cheese, who looked as though she’d rather remain enemies with this one.
But the planning was going smoothly, and that’s all that really mattered.
COUNTDOWN: 1 DAY UNTIL CEREMONY
Rehearsal day had begun.
With a flurry of movement and stress, the cookies involved with the wedding made their way to the venue once more.
The bridesmaids, Blackberry, Caramel Choux, Olive, Matcha, Linzer and Butter Roll (he’s there for some reason), were respectively helping with miscellaneous tasks. The maid of honor and best man, Pastry and Red Velvet, were off doing their own things to help. Dark Enchantress was playing the mother figure for Pomegranate, and would walk her down the aisle, while Elder Faerie was playing the role of father figure for Avocado.
Definitely not a great combination. But whatever. They’ll make it work.
At least, they should. If only for this event.
The flower girls, Onion and Cherry Blossom, were very excited about this. Cherry Blossom brought her favorite sakura petals while Onion cried, despite being happy with the situation. The ring bearers, Custard III and Pancake, were also very excited. The rings were custom made by the bride herself; Avocado, despite not being an experienced jeweler, was decent enough at blacksmithing to whip something up.
Pomegranate knew she made the rings. But she had no idea what they looked like, seeing as her soon-to-be wife kept it a secret.
And the last, and most important, cookie to be involved in the rehearsal was Menthol. He was meant to officiate it, truly wed the first couple in the kingdom.
It was an honor. For him, for the guests, for everyone involved.
This was going to be an incredible wedding indeed.
And while Pomegranate is in her dressing room, wearing her rehearsal dress. It was a pale green color, one that complemented her lover’s color scheme well.
Avocado, on the other hand, insisted on a dark red suit. Presumably to be matching.
And the rehearsal began.
As Pomegranate watched from her spot, she saw the rehearsal play out.
Menthol took his place behind the altar, ready to recite his script.
Then, Avocado took her place standing in front of the altar.
Next, the wedding party.
Butter Roll and Blackberry linked arms and walked down first, followed by Matcha and Olive, and lastly, Caramel Choux and Linzer.
Following the wedding party, the flower girls popped up. Cherry Blossom scattered petals with a big smile, all while Onion matched her pace with tears streaming down her face.
Then…the ring bearers. Custard III has insisted upon a tiny suit. Fit for a king, he said.
He carefully brought the first presentation pillow, absent of any ring, to the altar.
Pancake followed, holding a matching pillow. Yet again, with no ring.
The rings would be brought out during the actual ceremony, to ensure no lost rings would be a problem.
And finally…it was time.
Dark Enchantress stepped into the aisle.
Pomegranate followed, linking arms with her.
As she walked down the aisle, Dark Enchantress by her side, she saw it.
The signature grin, all dopey and such, spread across Avocado’s face.
And she couldn’t be any more grateful to have found such a woman.
They rehearsed their vows.
They practiced the lineup.
And the rehearsal was done.
“I, Custard Cookie the Third, hereby declare…it’s time for DINNER!” Custard III yelled once the practice was over.
The venue erupted with laughter at his antics. Even Dark Enchantress cracked a smile at the boy’s comment.
Time to eat!
