Work Text:
Draco had never been good at expressing what he felt, and Harry knew that very well.
Harry knew, from Draco’s own words, that the blond had spent years and years bottling up everything he felt, whether positive or negative.
Of course, after the war, it became unbearable for Draco to keep hiding his feelings, because everything was particularly unpleasant, and trying to deny that he had nightmares was impossible since his roommate, now boyfriend, was far too nosy.
Harry would never regret allowing himself to take an interest in Draco at the start of eighth year. Thanks to his not-obsession (as he liked to assure Hermione and Ron), he had a boyfriend who made him feel at home.
So when the owl swooped through the Burrow and, with an elegant movement (how was that even possible?), headed straight towards him, Harry felt his heart drum wildly.
Eighth year was nearly over. It was the Easter holidays, and Harry and Draco had decided to leave Hogwarts and return to their families. They were sure Narcissa and Molly would feel hurt if they stayed away again. Both, wanting to celebrate their first Christmas together, had remained at the castle the previous holiday. For Harry, it had been wonderful, from waking up to find Draco in his bed in the mornings to walking hand in hand through the deserted corridors.
Thanking the owl, Harry removed the message from its leg, and his smile faltered slightly when he saw it wasn’t a letter, but just a piece of parchment folded into four parts.
Not wanting to let his thoughts get the better of him, Harry quickly unfolded the parchment and…
“I miss you. Too much. Missing you is something new. I’m counting the days until I see you, Harry.
DLM.”
Harry probably smiled foolishly for a long time, because Ron said something like, “Mate! What’s going on with you? Are you all right? Mum, Mione! Harry’s smiling like…”
Harry managed to hush Ron and slipped the piece of parchment into his pocket. He would remember for a long time the moment Draco Malfoy trusted him with his feelings.
