Tara’s eyes crinkle at the corners, and a gentle hand (a hand that Parker’s seen bloody and bruised plenty of times) cups the side of Parker’s face ever so gently.
“That’s it,” she soothes. Her thumb sweeps softly across Parker’s cheek. She watches Parker’s reaction closely, taking in every minute twitch, her slightly parted lips, and finally she says, “that’s mommy’s pretty girl.”
