Pearl is already up on the roof and scrambling across with her body folded nearly in two, crab walking with her hands out, when she hears Marina’s judgmental call from the direction of the office windows.

Once upon a time, back before they both entered their mid-thirties and Marina realized that Pearl would never outgrow her troublemaking streak, the teasing tone might’ve been more genuine, but now, after seventy years on this planet and over fifty of lovingly tormenting each other, Pearl knows that Marina gets a little thrill out of making it a game.
