Chapter Text
Tubbo sighed as he looked at the tall building in front of him. Tubbo always thought the heroes' building always looked so cheesy and out of place from the rest of the city, its high glass towers taunting the poorer sides of L’manberg, but that's just how it goes with the heroes. Tubbo shook as he entered the building, trying not to make eye contact with anyone. He looked around for the person he had spent hours of his precious time researching, Dream. His creepy mask plastered with a smile on it made Tubbo shiver in every article he read. He couldn't find anyone in the main office who resembled "L’manberg’s number one hero". Even just thinking about that jerk made Tubbo's mouth taste bitter. Tubbo turned around, looking for Dream as he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned quickly, almost striking the man before he could even look at him. The man was giving Tubbo a smile that looked too perfect to be real. He quickly realized that this was the stupid number one hero everyone fawned over. Dream might have always worn a mask in his hero costume, but his voice was surprisingly recognizable. What might have helped this was how Schlatt had made him research every single hero before finally letting Tubbo do this mission.
“You must be…Tubbo, right?” Dream said, tilting his face covered by a white porcelain mask to the side. The mask was even more creepy in real life. “You’re the quote unquote ‘hero’ I have to put up with. You’re only here because I owe your father a favor, I hope you know that,” Tubbo could feel the man snarl under the mask, even if he couldn’t see it, he knew it was there. Tubbo resisted a shiver down his back and instead attempted to lighten the mood with an awkward half-smile.
"Oh yeah, my…father…" Tubbo replied. Tubbo always hated his father, never calling him: dad or father, it's always been just Schlatt. This was probably the first time he had ever done it and probably his last given that he couldn’t say it without cringing.
"I see the resemblance between you and Schlatt-” Tubbo glared at Dream, and he quickly shut his mouth. Tubbo looked around to make sure no one heard. That stupid jerk was probably grinning as he said that.
“Well, never mind that, follow me and I'll introduce you to the rest of our agency," Dream announced, trying to act like whatever he said never even happened. Tubbo followed behind Dream, watching his every move. Being raised as a villain, you never know when someone can strike. That was one of the benefits of being raised by your psycho dad, who only cared about power more than his own son. Tubbo was miserable for the first couple of years of his life until Schlatt met a business partner named Philza. After Philza joined, everything started getting better. Tubbo fondly remembered Phil sneaking candy behind Schlatt’s back to give to Tubbo. Then, Tubbo met Technoblade and Wilbur, Phil’s sons. I didn’t last for long though, the hero agency formed, and the stronger villains were needed to go "take care of them." If they were actually taking care of them, then why on earth would Tubbo be following this fucking idiot of a hero right now? Speaking of Dream, Tubbo actually never got a very good look at him. He was tall, with brown hair; he was surprisingly relaxed as far as Tubbo could tell. He would have never guessed this is what the infamous Dream would look like. Tubbo felt like he had been following Dream for ages before he finally took out some sort of ID card and opened up the door. Tubbo grabbed a pen out of his pocket and jabbed down a little note about this, knowing he would forget about this later. As he walked into the room, he immediately recognized almost everyone. The first people to catch his eye were the two he didn't recognize. Tubbo obviously knew the other guys. The one with the blonde hair and purple hood was obviously Alien. He could tell who 404 was because his costume was basically just a pair of sunglasses. 404 had a Capri Sun in his hands for some reason, and he appeared to be…Sleeping? Blaze was easy to spot because half of his body was literally on fire. He had black hair, a short beard and a head band which barely even held his hair back. Hourglass was a bit harder to spot out but he was fidgeting with his pocket-watch and he had his goggles from his hero costume on. Something was off about Hourglass something…Tubbo blinked. What was he thinking about again? Whatever it doesn't matter; what does matter is the two elephants in the room. Tubbo's eyes focused on one particular elephant, though. He was tall, really tall. His hair was split dyed, half black and half white. He had a mask and glasses on that covered basically all of his face and a tail that flicked back and forth as he talked to the younger boy in front of him. Speaking of the younger boy, he looked strangely familiar. He was blonde and definitely younger than Tubbo, but he was still taller than him. He had a red and white shirt that had wood shavings on it. It looked like he had been carving something. Before Tubbo could finish his thoughts, someone had to interrupt.
“Who’s the new guy?” 404 blurted out, apparently awake now and taking a loud annoying sip out of his almost empty Capri Sun. Suddenly, the conversations stopped, and they focused on Tubbo.
“Well, everyone, this is our new hero- uhh, what's your hero name?” Dream turned to Tubbo.
“Uhhh, I don't know,”
“What do you mean you don't know?!”
“I never really thought about it, I guess,” Dream looked like he was about to punch Tubbo when someone interrupted. The blonde boy from earlier raised his hand.
“You should make your hero name Bitch Boy.” The room went silent. Did he really just say that?
“Sure, I'll go with that,” Tubbo didn't put much thought into this decision.
“Why on earth would you make your hero name Bitch Boy?”
“Why not?”
“I'm not calling you Bitch Boy,”
“But it's my hero name.” Instead of Dream looking like he wanted to punch Tubbo, he looked like he wanted to throw Tubbo out the window. Everyone else in the room avoided eye contact, trying not to laugh.
“Y’know what! We’re just gonna call you Tubbo!” Dream said, running his fingers through his hair stressfully.
“But won't they know my ident-”
“You'll wear a mask! And if anyone asks your name just say like Toby or something!”
“Okay okay fine. Whatever Mr. Dream,”
“...”
“Alright, listen hear you little-” Tubbo blinked and a sword was held up to his neck. He could feel the cold blade barely grazing his neck.
“Woah, woah, woah, Dream you need to calm down the kids just playing,” 404 had gotten up and put his hand onto Dream's shoulder.
“I swear to fucking god I'm gonna kill this kid,” Dream took the sword away from Tubbo's neck. He then looked at the blonde boy, “And after him you're next, Tommy.”
“What the hell did I even do!?”
“You're the one who started the argument in the first place!”
“No that was your fault,”
“HOW IS THIS MY FAUL-”
“What about you Bitch Boy who's fault is this?” Tommy turned to Tubbo. He wanted to say Dream, but he was afraid his neck would actually get slit this time. Luckily before Tubbo could answer Dream out of all people interrupted.
“I'm sick and tired of all of you not listening to-”
“Wait, what even is your power?” Tubbo looked over to see who just said that. It was the one he had his eye on earlier. The man's tail flicked back and forth making Tubbo almost forget about the question.
“See this is what I'm saying you all keep interrupting me in the mid-” Dream continued his imaginary argument.
“Oh yeah I can like blow stuff up,” Tubbo held out his hand. He felt the heat flowing through his veins eventually reaching his hand. Suddenly a small explosion shot out of his hand. It was loud. Loud enough to make Dream stop arguing with the wall.
“Holy shit,” Everyone in the room was staring at Tubbo again. Dream took a long look at Tubbo, analyzing his power maybe. Tubbo could feel Dream’s smile through his mask.
“Welcome to the team!” Dream gripped Tubbo's shoulder. Tightening it as he whispered something.
“If you make one fucking mistake you're dead,” Tubbo nodded not wanting to draw attention. Dream let go.
“Alright don't be too hard on the kid,” Dream said as he left the room. As soon as the door shut Tubbo flipped it off. Idiot. Tubbo could hear Tommy laughing from behind him.
