It's with a hiss that the roof begins to cave in, a hailstorm of embers spitting to the floor. Rosie knows this is the end. She'd know it even without the great, flickering form of the Houndoom approaching through the flames.
At least she'd gotten all of the pokemon out of the daycare. If she doesn't have the energy now to save herself…well, that's the important part.
"It's okay," she says as the Houndoom takes another step closer. She's never seen a Houndoom before, but people have told stories about them for centuries—the way their plaintive cries steal souls away in the night. They've long been an omen of ill luck. It makes Rosie feel sorry for the pokemon, who's face looks so kind. "I'm not scared of you."
The Houndoom lowers his muzzle and Rosie closes her eyes, but she opens them again a moment later as teeth close in the fabric of her sweater. With a spark of surprise, she realizes she's being tugged inexorably towards the door of the centre.
When the firefighters arrive, it's to find a great Houndoom keeping guard, a human and a crowd of Azuril sleeping soundly beneath his watchful gaze.
