Work Text:
"He was already gone the day I brought him here." Tears stained Alucard's cheeks as he sat at the bottom of the stairs, arms tight around the corpse of Trevor Belmont. Blood smeared his lips. " I shouldn't have let this happen to him. he never wanted to be one of us. This is my fault, I just… I couldn't lose him." the pain in his broken whispers was laced with gilt.
Sypha cupped Alucard's face as she crouched down and wiped a freshly shed tear from his cheek. "Its okay. You were trying to keep him safe." the words caught in her throat as she wrapped her arms around his neck, trying to hold back her own tears. "It wasn't your fault."
_______________
The chaos of battle filled the once quiet halls of Dracula's castle. Sypha was keeping several of the Dark Lords generals busy, slowly weeding them out the cockier they took the fight. Blades and spells clashing destroying multiple of the support beams, bringing chunks of rubble down atop the battle below.
"Bloody hell Sypha, you trying to kill me?" Trevor called as he swapped places with a blood sucker he was currently exchanging blows with. Using the piece of rubble that would have crushed him, to pin the vampire.
"kind of busy Belmont, and besides you would know if I was trying to hit you" Sypha snapped as she created a wall of ice letting it fall slicing a vampire who was to slow getting out of the way.
Alacard had left the remains of the Devil's cohort to the scholar and Belmont, taking out any that dared to get in his way of confronting Dracula, his father.
Dracula never flinched from the throne as the blood of those he took counsel painted the thirsty stones. eyes following the blond hair weaving its way to him. "your son has become quite head strong Lisa, much like you. Please forgive me for what I must do"
Alacard throw a soldier over his shoulder where Sypha pierced it with an ice shard before it could hit the ground. Alacard took the opening to lunge his sword at Dracula knowing it wasn't going to be as simple as that to kill his father. "why do you insist on taking the world down with you?"
Dracula grabbed Alacard by the throat as if he weighed nothing . "She helped them, loved them and they took her from me!" Dracula threw him across the hall just as easily.
Alacard collided with the far wall, a little disorientated as he tried getting to his feet.
"Alacard!" Trevor called as he kicked the dusting corpse that had previously been trying to skewer him. Before he could register it, he found himself leaping in front of the demon. Hot pain seared through Trevor's forearm as Dracula's teeth sank in, deep.
Trevor panicked as he realised what had happened. Not having enough room to get a clean hit with the Morning Star, he resorted to repetitively hitting the leach with the butt of the handle instead. He had to get out other wise this was all for not.
"Get away from him!" Alacard ripped Dracula off Belmont, giving the human time to retreat and establish a defense.
Alacard had Dracula's full attention as they exchanged heavy blows, taking their battle through the rest of the castle, leaving Sypha and Trevor to take care of the stragglers.
Sypha brought herself down so she could better cover Trevor. Shooting spells well ducking out the way of the Belmont family morning star.
After the last vampire collapsed to a pile of dust and bones, Trevor tour part of his cloak to wrap around his weeping wound before adrenaline had time to leave his system. "We should find where they have gotten to"
Sypha Nodded in agreement as she carried Belmont under his arm struggling to support his weight.

Not even walls were safe in the battle between father and son. The orderly books in Dracula's study were left heaped at the foot of what ever shelves were still standing.
Alacard flailed from under his Fathers grip. The same hands that helped raise him were now trying to end him. Not wanting to die, to give up, he managed to manoeuvre were he could kick Dracula off of him before tackling them both through the back wall.
When they came to a stop. Dracula found himself in a small room in comparison to the others they had been in, a room not touched by time. A lull in the fight allowed Dracula to take in his surroundings, when his eyes landed on a portrait of a smiling blonde lady with a baby cradled in her arms and a proud Dracula at her side.
"My boy, my baby boy. What have I done?" Dracula turned taking in the room. Alacard just watched from the door way, as Dracula completely ignored him as he made his way to the small bed centred on the far wall.
"My boy" Dracula whispered as he held a toy wolf that had called the bed its home.
Not sheathing his sword, he lowered it as he made his way to the middle of his childhood room. Dracula discarded the toy as he went to greet his son, arms out ready for an embrace, tears betraying his once sturdy expression.
"father" Alacard acknowledged, not flinching from the embrace. tears of sorrow filled his vision as he willed the sword to pierce Dracula. "rest now father, rest with mother" Alacard didn't let go as Dracula began to crumble, he only fell to his knees, sobbing as the last of his father fell through his fingers.

When Sypha and Trevor were able to fined Alacard. They found him kneeling in a pile of old bones and dust, sword discarded to the side, wolf toy hugged to his chest.
"Are you alright Alacard?" Sypha hesitantly asked.
when he realised his friends were at the door he rushed to check on Trevor, frantically searching for wounds. Trevor couldn't help but laugh at the vampires concern. "I'm alright, it was just a graze. but you know what I could do with? a good strong drink"
~
Alacard and Trevor stood shoulder to shoulder as they waved Sypha off, as she set off to fined her family before going on the road to help those that needed it from the remaining Night-horde.
"shell we start fixing this shit show of a castle?" Trevor playfully nudged Alacard who just rolled his eyes.

Over the next few days the two spent there waking moments cleaning rubble around the central part of the castle and burned any of the bodies that weren't just dust and bone.
The first few days were fine, Alacard insisted Trevor take it easy while his wounds heal especially his arm, witch to Alacard's concern was almost fully healed along with any other injuries Trevor had managed to obtain, so he made a point to keep a closer eye on the human.
By the end of 10 days Alacard had observed several concerns around his partner. Trevors lack in apatite was the first thing Alacard noted, normally Trevor would be glad for a nice stake with fresh vegetable stew. The symptoms Alacard had been observing reminded him of ones in his fathers old medical journals, he dreaded what it pointed to. So Alacard started digging into his father's work in hopes to be told he was wrong.
After 15 days he noted Trevor was avoiding the sunlight as much as possible, subconsciously sticking to the more shaded places. This and the fact Trevor has been losing mass without a constant appetite. Alacard couldn't deny his hunch about Trevors condition being right. He didn't want it to be right, not with this.
18 days after the defeat of Dracula, Alacard was sitting in a plushed chair he pulled from the study rubble so he could keep the human company as he spent more of his time resting, a state Alacard knew meant he was running out of time.
The flicking of pages stopped as Alacard found the page he had been looking for. "I suppose there was no running from the truth" he looked at the unconscious Belmont.
The next evening when Trevor had collapsed in his chair at the table, Alacard wrapped him in a fur lined coat to stay warm as Alacard carried him to the nearest village that he located in hopes to trade with one day.
"Where are we going?" Trevor asked groggily through his sleeping state. Shifting closer against Alacard's chest to shield himself from the chilled night air as Alacard ran through the forest.
"To get you help, just hold on a little longer" Alacard couldn't tell him the truth. Not the full truth, he was getting help.
When they arrived at the edge of the village, Alacard sat Trevor down under a tree tucking him just out of sight. "I'll be back in a moment"
~
Alacard stayed in the shadows, the night still young enough that people where returning from their place of work or their socialising at the villages claim to a tavern. He had to be careful with who he would take. He refused to take a Young person, they still had potential and taking someone that looked important could lead to trouble down the road.
After some time an older man stumbled his way out the tavern. The stench of alcohol seeped from the man as he stumbled his way behind the building. Alacard snuck up on him as he was finishing relieving himself.
Dragging the unconscious man back to Trevor didn't take long, but that was never going to be the issue. Alacard gently shook Trevor "I have something for you, it will help"
Trevor barely acknowledged what was going on. Alacard slit the drunkards throat before lifting him up so Trevor could reach the warm crimson. Once Trevor started he couldn't help himself, the blood was intoxicating as it began to quench his hunger.
When the body was drained and Trevor was sated, his own body collapse back into a slumber. Alucard carefully wrapped him in his now blood stained furs before disposing of the corpse further into the woods.
~
Over the next day Alucard sat at Trevor's side listening as his heart slowed to a stop. Alucard could only hold his breath in hopes he wasn't too late.
~
"And what did you expect me to do Belmont, let you die?"
"Yes!" Belmont looked at Alucard viciously with his dull red eyes. There were lots of things in the world Trevor Belmont wanted, being turned in to the very creature he was taught to hunt was not one of them.
Alucard stepped back unsure how to respond. He knew something like this would have happened but his love for Belmont blinded him, along with his desire to not be alone. He was selfish and he loathed it.
"Kill me Alacard“
Alacard stood steering in disbelief at the defiant man in front of him. He could, it would be as easy as driving a stake through his chest or leaving him in the morning sun.
"Or I'll do it myself"
~
A week has parsed since Trevors turning. He has spent most his waking hours glaring at Alacard when he wasn't trying to escape his newly gilded hell, which he found it increasingly difficult seeing at Alacard shadowed him like a mother hen fussing over a newly hatched chick. Even going as far to take Trevor's sward and other weapons preempting what Trevor was planning to do with them. Alacard had tried getting him to engage with his new found prowess as a blood sucker, even with him spending the time fighting against the new nature that crawled under his skin asking to be let out.
When Trevor wasn't spending his time trying to undo what's been done, he was watching the sun knowing that one touch from its warmth will end this nightmare.
Alacard was at a loss with Trevors persistence to not drinking any form of sustainable substance, even if it was only animal blood, Instead opting to slowly starve. Alucard was already seen a decline with Trevor's health that by the end of the first couple of weeks. He was looking as bad, if not worse than before he drank his first blood.
By the end of the first month Trevor became a husk of his former self he still refused to drink blood but Alacard was now able to leave the castle with out worrying that Trevor would throw himself to the mercy of the sun.
Alacard knew if Trevor didn't drink soon he was going to be a frenzied mess or dead.
~
"Please Alacard, let me die. I was dead months ago, you have to let me go. I can feel the hunger, I can't do this anymore" Trevor's weakened body knelt in front of his vampire, clasping Alacard's hands in his own.
Tears ran down his pale cheeks, as he shook his head. " I can't, I don't want to be alone. not again"
"I know, but you wont be. You will fined someone, maybe a ruined town that needs your help, but until then you will have Sypha and the speakers and besides I will always be with you in your memory" Trevor reached up and cupped Alacard's cheek sweeping away a stray tear with his thumb. "Here use this"
Trevor puled a small silver blade from his inner boot lining. Alacard stared unsure how to react as Trevor lay the handle in his hand. "How do you have this?"
A soft chuckle shifted the somber air. "I wouldn't be a very good Belmont if I couldn't hide a weapon or to without anyone noticing." Trevor gifted Alacard the first smile in months. "I found this one when you were out the other day and I was going to do it right then but I didn't want to leave you with out a goodbye and reminding you that despite all this the last few months I don't hate you. Am I upset with you? Yes, but I could never hate you"
Alacard's fingers curled around the handle he knew there was no getting out of this, it was only fair seeing as he bound Trevor to this place. "As you wish"
Trevor pressed their foreheads together as he wrapped his arms around Alacard's neck. Alucard held the blade between them pointing it at Trevor's hart. Fresh tears stinging his eyes as he pushed the dagger into Trevor with no resistance. Trevor's arms fell from were they where draped around Alucard neck as hes body lost its ability to hold its self.
Alacard just sat there on the grand stairs, cradling the body close to his chest as he wailed allowing the feelings he so desperately didn't want to feel flow through him, he cried till there where no tears left to shed.
~
"Hello? Alacard? Trevor?" A familiar voice called as a head poked past the door at the other end of the entrance hall. Alacard didn't know when she arrived but he looked up to see Sypha in the door way puzzled at the sight ahead of her.
