Item #: SCP-9718 (Eris Vanserra)

Summary:

The arrival of SCP-9718 has introduced anomalies that extend beyond his known abilities. Though O5 authorization permits ongoing study, the subject’s influence over staff, his volatile temperament, and the peculiar attachment to certain personnel remain poorly understood.

Notes:

The most entertaining way to navigate this fic is to let the notes and secrets take you from one place to another (if you have the necessary clearance level).

The “chapters” are not necessarily in order. I will be updating throughout the week.

Chapter 1: Item #: SCP-9718

Chapter Text

Item #: SCP-9718

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-9718 is to be contained in a thermally regulated cell at Site-██. The chamber is maintained at subambient temperatures (~10°C) to suppress pyrogenic activity, reflecting observed subject preference for cooler, Autumn-like conditions. Direct interaction is restricted to Level 3 personnel and above.

SCP-9718 demonstrates markedly reduced hostility and anomalous activity during observation periods conducted by Dr. A. ██████. Accordingly, O5 directive authorizes daily supervised sessions (minimum three hours) between SCP-9718 and Dr. A. ██████. In the event of Dr. A. ██████’s absence, SCP-9718 must be notified by the researcher personally to prevent escalation (see Incident Log 9718-4).

Security staff entering the containment chamber are required to wear flame-retardant protective gear. Efforts to maintain SCP-9718’s control over its abilities without the involvement of Dr. A. ██████ have consistently failed.

Due to advanced cognitive ability and prior escape attempts, SCP-9718 must be provided with approved reading material to mitigate containment breaches (see Incident Log 9718-3).

Description: SCP-9718 is a humanoid entity measuring 1.95 meters in height and approximately 90 kg in mass. Morphologically, the entity is largely consistent with baseline human physiology; however, multiple observational reports indicate minor alterations in appearance when viewed by different personnel. Dr. Thornhall’s notes describe SCP-9718 as having pointed ears and pronounced dentition. During a security breach on  ██/██/████, the subject severed a finger from a containment guard attempting to approach Dr. A. ██████.

Additional physical characteristics include amber irises (described as “reminiscent of fire,” per Dr. Thornhall), red hair, and pale skin. Musculature is significant, although the overall build may appear deceptively slender. Observations during the subject’s second escape attempt indicate sufficient physical strength to incapacitate three unarmed adult guards.

Preliminary assessment of SCP-9718’s pyrogenic abilities includes: manipulation of flame, ambient temperature modulation, transformation of fire into solid objects, and detection of organisms/objects based on emitted infrared energy above 0 K. Additional cognitive or mental capabilities are currently classified. [DATA EXPUNGED]

Behavioral observations indicate that SCP-9718 demonstrates strategic intelligence and manipulative tendencies during interactions with personnel. The subject has been observed using verbal taunts, feigned compliance, and controlled aggression to test containment protocols.

SCP-9718 is generally compliant under controlled conditions. Notably, containment reports indicate elevated threat levels in the absence of Dr. A. ██████. Dr. Thornhall’s notes reference instances in which SCP-9718 identified Dr. A. ██████ as its [DATA REDACTED], although the implications of this designation remain undetermined. Containment difficulty is assessed as elevated during periods without the presence of Dr. A. ██████.

The entity was recovered in the vicinity of ██████ (approx. coordinates 7█.██████°S, 5█.██████°W). Initial assessment indicated a state of shock. Upon arrival of Containment Team Night Wing-3, SCP-9718 displayed aggressive behavior toward personnel until pacification measures administered by Dr. Spellcleaver were successful. Specific methods employed remain unverified; the subject subsequently complied with transport to ██████ facilities.

Audio Log – Interview 9718-3

Date: ██/██/20██

Interviewer: Dr. Thornhall

Interviewed: Captain █████, Commander of Retrieval Team Night Wing-3

Retrieval Incident #9718-1-A

<Begin Log>

Capt. █████: It’s been a long time since we’ve encountered a creature this violent. Not even the “little mermaid” on the beaches of █████ gave us this much trouble. If Lucien hadn’t been there, I think the bastard would’ve torn us apart—

Dr. Thornhall: Captain, please describe the mission.

Capt. █████: Right. I still get chills thinking about it. He’s almost as dangerous as he is beautiful, like one of those wildfires. We had two choppers: one with my team, the other with Dr. Spellcleaver and two colleagues. When we arrived, the area was on fire, and he was standing in the middle of the forest, talking about some closed portal or something.

Dr. Thornhall: Your report indicates SCP-9718 did not react to the fire?

Capt. █████: Yes, completely unaffected. We had flame retardant suits, but for a moment I thought he was going to set us on fire anyway. Do you know how much those suits handle? Over a thousand degrees Celsius. We tried to communicate, standard procedure for intelligent creatures. Didn’t work.

Dr. Thornhall: That’s when SCP-9718 entered an agitated state?

Capt. █████: That’s putting it lightly. He was furious, but the scariest part? He knew my name, Balthazar’s, and Emerie’s. He seemed particularly angry with me. When reasoning failed, we moved to incapacitation [pauses briefly] that’s when Lucien intervened. Usually the doctors stay back from action, no offense Doc…but he didn’t even put on a suit and stepped off the chopper, speaking in another language.

Dr. Thornhall: Another language? Were you able to recognize it?

Capt. █████: No idea, not my specialty. Whatever it was, it calmed him almost instantly. The fire went out, and he went from looking like a hellish creature to appearing as a normal human. Except for the pointed ears, of course.

Dr. Thornhall: Thank you, Captain.

[Chairs are heard moving, footsteps leave the room. Captain █████ is confirmed to have exited Interview Room 16.]

Dr. Thornhall (afterward): Follow-up required. Schedule interview with Dr. Spellcleaver to review his interaction with SCP-9718 upon arrival at the facility. Full review of audiovisual recording recommended for behavioral analysis.

Notes:

First of all, a HUGE thank you to Agus for helping me get the SCP tone right (even though you don't know anything about ACOTAR). Second, I hope you enjoy it! It's super indulgent. I love Eris, I really like the SCP game and the wiki/files aesthetics, so this is what came out.

Edit: Are you enjoying the format, everyone? Discovering who the other characters are? Remember that you can find more information in certain parts of the document, but don't forget that you need the appropriate clearance level ;) I'll read your comments <3
