Work Text:
I stood outside my girlfriend's and her roommates' door room, trying to figure out what the hell was going on. Inside the room was Wednesday, Enid was gone. So why was the figure inside dancing and wearing one of Enid’s colorful sweaters?
I knocked on the door two times, and watched as the figure inside stilled. It was a solid minute before the door opened. When my girlfriend opened the door with a wide smile on her face, I knew something was wrong.
“Hi, y/n. What are you doing here?” The voice coming from her mouth was not hers, it was cheery and happy. I narrowed my eyes, watching my girlfriend closely.
“Why are you so cheerful?” I asked her. “I’ve never seen you smile.” She ran to Enid’s side of the room, and it clicked.
I crossed my arms and stared at her. How the hell did this happen?
“Is that you, Enid?” The girl in front of me nodded feverishly.
“What the hell happened? Why are you in her body? And where is Wednesday?” Enid opened her mouth, then closed it. A part of me told me that she had no idea, but Wednesday would know.
“I don’t know where she is. Said she was going to go fix whatever is wrong with us.”
“Wednesday’s allergic to color, Enid. Take the sweater off. Now.” I gave her a look that would send shivers down Wendesday’s spine.
“I see why Wednesday likes you so much. You’re terrifying.” Enid began to pull the sweater over her head, and I turned around.
“God, not in front of me, Enid!” Even though it was my girlfriend’s body, we hadn’t even gotten to the first kiss yet, let alone taking off our shirts.
“Sorry, y/n.” I heard her walk across the room, probably to find one of Wednesday’s black or white clothes.
“Tell me when you’re decent.” After a couple minutes of soft thuds and grunts, Enid appeared in front of me, still in Wednesday’s body.
“Let’s go find Wednesday.”
We found her in the graveyard, standing in front of Rosaline Rotwood’s grave.
“Wednesday.” I said, watching as she turned around.
“Y/n. You shouldn’t be here.”
“I’m not leaving until I get my girlfriend back. Did you figure out how to reverse whatever this is?” I motioned between them. Wednesday seemed to understand that I was staying, but she bristled as I stepped closer.
“Let’s get this over with, Enid.” They both put their hands on the tombstone and went into some sort of vision state.
I sat down on one of the fallen trees, and waited. I had closed my eyes, about to doze off when I heard Enid’s voice.
“And I feel warm and fuzzy again. Oh my gosh it worked.” I sat up, watching Enid hug herself and smiled.
“Enid, go back to Nevermore. I’ll be right behind you. I have to talk to y/n first.” She looked at me, with her quizzical brown eyes. Like every time before, I felt butterflies in my stomach. She walked up to me, looked down at me, and offered me her hand. I took it.
“I’m glad it’s you.” I whispered.
“You figured out.” She didn’t say it like she was surprised, more like impressed.
“It was obvious. There was no way I wouldn’t have figured it out.” I saw the corner of her lip turn upwards.
“Enid make me realize something. I know you’re not one for emotional sentiment, and I don’t expect you to say it back, but I’m falling for you.” I watched as her face changed slightly, I always watched for the smallest changes in her features. The way her eyebrows knit together when she was focused. The small pursing of her lips when she was agitated.
Now, her eyes widened and her lips parted slightly. And she was quiet for a couple moments. Her eyes wandered around my face, looking for any sign I was messing with her. I always called her the human lie detector. I let her watch me, waiting for her to come to her own conclusion.
“I think I feel something for you too.” She locked her eyes onto mine, holding my gaze too long for it to be comfortable for her. I smiled as she took another step towards me. We were so close, if anyone saw us, they would be shocked. But I was not shocked, I was patient.
I wanted to kiss her so badly, my eyes flicked down to her lips multiple times a second. I wondered if they’d be cold like her hands or warm like my heart.
I shivered as her hand came to rest on my cheek, my eyes again flicking down to her lips, and I caught her eyes doing the same thing. I licked my bottom lip and felt Wednesday pull me towards her. I closed my eyes as our lips touched. My hands went around her waist, pulling her body flush against mine. Her lips were warm, and I felt her hair brush against my cheek as she turned her head. The kiss turned more passionate as she got more comfortable in my arms.
When we both pulled away, gasping for air, I ran a finger along the side of her face.
“I think we should do that again, don’t you?” I asked, twisting a piece of her hair around my finger. For the first time, I saw her smile. Not widely or grinning, but a small smile.
I pressed a small kiss to her lips, and smiled when she pulled me back for another.
