Work Text:
megumi watches raindrops slide down the glass of her bedroom window, drawing lines down until they merge into others and make the lines thicker, running down the surface quicker to collate at the edge of the windowsill. soft music fills the air from the dusty radio she has beside her at the quaint little table they have filled with all kinds of items strewn about. for now, megumi's current read sits open with the pressed flower bookmark gifted to her in between the pages, surrounded by the small handknitted figurines of bunnies and wolves and tigers. she smiles to herself at the thought of their gathering for a little storytime.
rainy days were always a time for quiet, melancholy moments wrapped in the comforts of her home. a long time ago, she held an unknown fear for rainy days like these. was reminded of rain dripping down her face, blurring her vision further as she stared at the dark sky like something could save her from the guilt and sorrow drowning her. refusing to look down at the ground, at the body laying in the mud at her feet, remembered vaguely of the pleas running through her mind at the time, this can't be true, everything will be fine, she's not actually d-
a storm cloud in the distance rumbles and pulls megumi out of her spiralling thoughts, a gasp escaping her as she remembers herself. sat at her table, reading her book with familiar music playing. everything wasn't fine then. her hands shake as they go to close her book, but she grips the table to get up from her wooden chair, bringing the warm sweater drapped over its back around her own shoulders. everything is fine now.
megumi ventures out of the cold comfort of her bedroom, down the flight of padded stairs that creak softly under her weight, shuffling into the kitchen where she hears a cupboard open and the sound of a kettle on the stove. she leans in the doorway to take in the view: her wife brewing tea in the matching mugs she painted for them, humming along to the music from upstairs. a sweet sight that makes her heart ache, even after all this time.
"gonna stand there watching me all day, love ?" megumi isn't even surprised that she notices, only walking over to wrap her arms around her waist and press her forehead to the nape of her neck. warm, as always.
"you were taking forever." a huff of laughter makes the skin under megumi's touch shake. "tea doesn't take that long to brew."
her wife shifts to pull the kettle from the stove once it starts whistling, pouring equal volumes of boiled water into each mug and stirring in different amounts of sugar; ½ a teaspoon for the mug with the painting of a black dog's face with a serious pout, and 2 teaspoons for the mug with a white dog's with its tongue sticking out comically. megumi disentangles herself from her back, sporting an expression quite akin to the former mug.
she follows her lover to the loveseat in their living room, plopping down as her mug is placed in front of her on the coffee table. her wife follows suit with her own mug in hand, blowing on the top before taking a small sip. she sets the mug down next to megumi's and lies back into the cushions with her. clasping megumi's closest hand between hers, pulling it into her lap to trace over the wrinkled skin and wedding band on her ring finger.
"i was finding those tea bags you hid in the back of the cupboard." knowing honey brown eyes study her lovingly. "the ones you use for rainy days."
megumi scoffs, even if the information makes her heart melt from being cared for. her free hand reaches from her mug, taking a whiff of ginger and chamomile before sipping gently. it tastes heavenly. soothes her tired bones and makes her lean into her wife's side heavier. long pink hair, now a faded colour like the cherry blossoms that greet them in april and mixed with light grey strands that appear more and more everyday, tickles her nose as she kisses her shoulder.
megumi's answering "you didn't have to do that, yuu." sounds too soft to be a scolding, rather it sounds more like a giving of thanks and gratitude. it makes yuji laugh either way, and that's all megumi needs. they stay in that moment for a bit, huddled together in the home they've made theirs all those years ago, making pointless jabs at each others' choices like the old couple they are, enjoying the time they get to have, that they've had all this while. to megumi, everything is fine as it is.
