Work Text:
Luther knew he shouldn't have let them convince him to try that experimental program. He was good at his job, hardworking, efficient, and caught on quick. What he was not good at, was opposing people. Particularly those with strong personalities. There was no one to stand up for here, no one he would be protecting by saying "no."
So, he had agreed. He was one of four of the ten on his team trying out the new software.
Yeah... Not the best idea.
The program ran fine... Until it didn't. Not wanting to cause any trouble, Luther worked through it, thinking it was probably his own old system having trouble with the new software and that it would work itself out with. He was not correct and ended up being sent home to wait for a patch as he quickly became more and more useless.
Kara had been watching the clock waiting for Luther's return. With Alice away, she found herself with too much free time and feeling rather alone, to her embarrassment. She jumped at a layered thump at the front door. There was still an hour before Luther's shift ended.
She peeked through the window to see a large heap on the porch. Wearing Luther's work uniform. “Luther…?” She called cautiously, not reaching for the door quite yet.
His head whipped up from the ground, a broad, lazy smile on his face. “Kara!” He called excitedly. “There you are! You're there! I told them I knew where my wifey lived!” His voice was dragging slightly.
A bit of blue dusted her cheeks at ‘wifey’ and she smiled awkwardly, still a bit concerned. “Are you… ok?”
He laughed lightly, shaking his head. “Nnnnnnnnnope!”
“Ermm.. what's wrong?”
“New software made my programming go whoop!” He threw a hand in the air that flopped down almost immediately. He righted himself enough to sit up, legs loosely folded. “Can I… come inside? I don't like it out here. I wanna be where you are.”
Kara opened the door, offering a hand to Luther who flopped forward onto his hands and crawled past her into the house.
“Where's Alice?” he asked, looking around the living room.
“She's staying over at Shelby's house to work on a group project, remember?” Kara closed the door, then softly padded after him.
Luther rolled over onto his back in the middle of the floor. “That's good,” he chuckled with a sigh of relief, “I wouldn't want Alice to see me like this.”
Kara tilted her head, turning to the kitchen to maybe get him some thirium, though she wasn't sure if that would even help in a situation like this.
“Kara!” Luther called after her excitedly. “Come here! Right here!” He patted his chest with a floppy hand. “Come lay on top a’ me!”
“Luther, I think I should maybe…” Kara turned to him, her sentence tapering off both at his expression and the fact that she had no real idea of what she could do to help him.
Luther pouted at her. “Please? I wanna feel you here before I fall into stasis… they're working on a patch and I'm gonna be stuck until then…”
Kara knelt beside him, tentatively leaning over him until he just yanked her down.
With Kara on top of him, Luther wrapped her up and started rocking side to side. “Yay… my Kara…” He pressed kisses to the top of her head. “My love, my Kara, my Kara,” he singsonged.
Kara only smiled, letting herself be treated basically like a stuffed animal. He was kind of cute like this.
Luther paused, suddenly lifting her up right over his silly face. “Can I have kisses, Kara? Lots of ‘em?”
Kara looked down at him helplessly, a twinkle in her eyes as she weakly flapped her hands. “You're not giving me much of a choice here…”
Luther's lips dropped into an exaggerated frown. “You have a choice… I can't make you give me kisses…” He looked away, voice sinking into a mumble. “Even though I really want them and no Kara kisses would make Luther really sad…” He started to sit her down on his stomach.
“Aw, Luther, it's ok!” Kara quickly leaned forward. “I was just playing. Of course you can have kisses.” She pressed a kiss to his cheek and then his nose.
“Even on my forehead?” Luther asked in a small voice.
Kara obliged him with a little peck.
Luther closed his eyes with a pleased look. Something inside of him whirred loudly.
Kara startled, but Luther held her still.
“It's ok,” he said, “nothing's broken. Just a biocomponent overheating. It'll cool off on its own.”
“If you say so…”
Luther nodded sagely, eyes still shut. “I dooooo, I dooooo.” He idly ran the fingers on one hand up and down her back. “Karaaaa…”
“Yes, Luther?”
“One last kissy? On my lips?” He opened his eyes, looking at her with a lovestruck expression. “Just a little one? A good night one? My stasis countdown already started…”
Kara tried to sit up. “You should at least get in bed then-”
Luther shook his head, lightly holding her in place around her waist. “Nuh uh. Right here. Not moving. Couldn't even if I wanted to,” he chuckled. He pursed his lips. “One little kiss good night, Kara, pretty pretty please? Like you?”
Kara sighed with a half smile. Thank goodness Alice wasn't coming home for at least two days. Hopefully this software issue would be solved by then. “Ok, Luther.” She leaned down and nuzzled her nose against his before pressing her lips to his. “Goodnight, Luther.”
Luther smiled happily, chasing after her lips for another. “Good good night, Kara.”
