Do You Want to Build a Snowman?

Summary:

Eve and Moriarty find a bit of whimsy while trekking through a frozen wasteland.

Notes:

Okay, so this is one of my favorite ships meaning I was a bit more comfortable with this fanfic. However, my one regret was the uncontrolled fact that I had to write it in the evening after a long day of work so I didn't get in as many details as I'd want. The stories for tomorrow, Thursday and Friday will unfortunately be the same. Either way, the prompt is cute and the ideas came pretty easily.

Work Text:

Day 5: Eve/Moriarty "They build a snowman together"

Eve pauses and twirls around in the falling snowflakes only to stop when she realizes James is watching her.

"That's not very immortal guardian like behavior," he states. Yet there is a special twinkle in his eyes that indicates he isn't actually mad at her. In fact, she doesn't even think he's upset that they're trekking through the cold Alaskan wilderness, miles from the nearest potential door portal, after trapping an ice minotaur in a prism.

Then again, she frequently forgets that he has only recently gained his full freedom in their world.

Instead of getting sentimental, Eve decides to tease back. "Who says I'm a normal immortal guardian?"

"Oh Duchess, I know you are so much more than that." James steps forward, but just as he reaches her, he slips in the snow and they both go down to the ground in a tangle of limbs.

Eve detangles herself first, but instead of standing up right away she decides to make a snow angel.

James sits up and begins to dust himself off and after a moment, Eve also sits up before asking, "Have you ever made a snow angel before?"

Again, there is the sad fondness in his eyes. "It wasn't written into my childhood and…"

Before he can add that Prospero also denied him human pleasures, something he has pointed out before, Eve stands up and reaches a hand out to help James up as well. "Well, you have your freedom now, and we're going to build a snowman."

"She tells me I have my freedom and then immediately tells me what to do," James states, but again there is the twinkle in his eyes.

"Yep. That's exactly how it's going to be," Eve teases back. "I tell you what to do and you listen and don't question me."

James huffs before responding, "I will only follow your lead if you placate me with a kiss."

"Making demands I see. One kiss then, and then you're going to roll the snowman's butt."

The kiss is passionate, because everything seems to be with them, but it is quick, and then James sets off to roll the bottom of the snowman while Eve makes the midsection. Somehow, they end up rolling the head together despite it being the smallest body part.

Of course, there is still something missing and James quips, "They look much more jovial in the pictures."

"We need to find some arms and a face."

It takes a few minutes, but Eve finds two small yet sturdy branches that look like they could be arms and James manages to dig through the snow to find several small stones.

"He still looks rather chilled," James mutters as they again stand back to look at their creation and Eve is about to incredulously point out that their creation is made of snow when he pulls off his own scarf.

"Cassandra bought that for you," Eve hisses.

"And even you admit that you find it rather hideous and in your exact words, 'a turn off' so I might benefit greatly from disposing of it on our Mr. Frosty. Besides, it's anti-intellectual for a snowman to go without a scarf if I do say."
