To Be Held By You

Summary:

The night before an important mission, Jango Fett and Zam Wesell are left in a hotel with — you guessed it — only one bed! Despite Jango’s initial discomfort with the situation, he finds himself comforted by the proximity to his friend.

Work Text:

Jango was tired, but he couldn’t sleep. The bed was comfortable and spacious, enough to easily host two people without those two people needing to touch.

However, Zam had other plans. Her arms were wrapped around Jango’s chest, her breath making Jango’s skin tingle as she snored.

This was a bit too intimate for Jango. He’d never been this close with anyone in years. But Zam’s touch didn’t make him feel as uncomfortable as anyone else’s did.

He’d tolerate this for tonight.

Just as Jango was getting used to the sensation of being held, the warmth of Zam’s body left his own. It felt weird, to be without the comfort of his friend’s arms around his torso.

Jango turned on his side to look at her. She’d turned away in her sleep, her back facing Jango. It made him feel weird; his chest ached slightly. He felt… almost sad.

Almost.

Jango frowned. For a moment, he lifted his hand to reach out.

Love was a sign of weakness. He sighed and dropped his hand. It landed with a soft thump against the mattress.

Despite his previous thought, Jango moved slightly closer. He sighed, mostly at himself, and raised his arm once more, his fingers barely brushing against Zam’s skin.

He let his hand sit on Zam’s shoulder for a second. Her skin was cold, but soothing. Jango slowly moved his arm to wrap around Zam’s waist and pulled her closer, careful not to wake her.

The feeling of holding someone was foreign. Jango wasn’t quite sure if he was doing it right, whatever ‘it’ was.

But the feeling was comforting. Despite the odd disconnect, Jango felt safe.

Maybe, just maybe, he could get used to this.

The suns rose early.

When Zam awoke, she found herself in a different position than the one in which she’d fallen asleep. Perhaps Jango had pushed her away?

She groaned and tried to shift her position, but a gentle pressure around her stopped her from moving.

Had Jango turned her in while she was asleep? Was this revenge for when she’d ratted him out? She thought he’d already gotten his revenge, but she may not have known him as well as she thought.

Zam reached down to tug at whatever was restraining her, but instead of cold metal, she felt the warmth of skin.

Her brows furrowed in confusion. There was no chance that Jango Fett was holding her.

She tilted her head back slightly. Curly hair brushed against her skin, and she finally noticed just how close Jango’s chin was to the back of her head.

Jango Fett was holding her.

Zam turned around to face Jango. His hair was longer than usual, curling near the nape of his neck.

He looked nice with long hair, but Zam knew he’d cut it eventually. Maybe she could convince him to keep it long for a few more days.

She carefully extracted her arm from Jango’s gentle hold, reaching up to run a hand through his hair. She’d only been close enough to do this a few times before.

Jango’s hair was silky, not rough like Zam had expected. In response to her movement, Jango stirred slightly and tilted his head down.

His lips, soft and warm, pressed against Zam’s forehead. It was hard to tell if he was conscious or not.

Based on Jango’s lack of movement in contrast to Zam’s evidently awake state, the latter decided that the former was asleep.

Seeing as Jango was asleep, Zam leaned forwards and kissed Jango’s shoulder, the nearest skin she could reach without risking shifting Jango’s position.

Zam yawned. She hadn’t realized how early it was, but the mission surely didn’t start for a few hours. She didn’t exactly remember when the window was, though it was certain that she had time.

She wrapped an arm around Jango’s shoulders and closed her eyes. Zam could get used to this.

The beeping of a holocron startled Jango awake, the sudden shock causing him to nearly sit up. A voice, calling his name, was pouring out of the small device.

He groaned and tightly shut his eyes, wrapping his arms around Zam once more and, after a moment of hesitation, pressing his lips against her forehead.

“Jango!” the voice yelled, prompting the bounty hunter to pull the blanket over himself and his partner.

“You’re missing the window!”

The exclamation didn’t register; Jango was already falling asleep again, a small, almost imperceptible smile on his lips.
