Work Text:

Going out for drinks with Kaminari had been a terrible idea. Bakugou had had two weak drinks and was barely buzzed, while Kaminari could barely stand.

“C'mon, idiot. We gotta get you home,” Bakugou grumbled as he hauled Kaminari into an upright position.

“Mm, but I'm having such a good time here!” Kaminari said, leaning into Bakugou so that he was practically supporting all his weight.

“You’re too drunk to be out right now, unless you wanna make the headlines for being the world's most publicly drunk Pro,” Bakugou lectured, his hand coming to support Kaminari's back.

“Fine, fine,” Kaminari giggled. “As long as I’m going home with you, I guess I don't mind.”

Bakugou's face felt warm at the comment, but he just rolled his eyes. “Yeah, fucking whatever. Will you just get in the Uber when it gets here?”

Kaminari wrapped his arms around Bakugou's, clinging to him. “Noooo, not unless you come with,” he said, his voice a drawn-out slurry mess.

Bakugou huffed. “Fine. Yeah, whatever.”

At least he'd know the idiot got home safe this way.

The Uber arrived pretty quickly, and Balugou slid in, pulling Kaminari along with him into the back seat.

Kaminari was being embarrassingly clingy, and it was starting to fuck with Bakugou's head a little.

It wasn't like Bakugou was unused to his friend being touchy, but this was getting ridiculous. He continually had to shove the other man's hands away from his shoulders before he eventually just gave up on keeping him away and let Kaminari wrap him up in an embrace.

When they finally got back to Kaminari's apartment, he slid out first, nearly falling flat on his face when he stumbled out. Bakugou caught him by the back of his shirt, pulling him back, and subsequently against his chest.

“Watch yourself,” he grumbled.

Kaminari let out a hum, turning around to bury his face against Bakugou's neck. He tensed, unsure of what to do for a moment.

He cleared his throat, gently pushing Kaminari away. “C'mon, it’s cold out. Let's go inside. You need to drink a fuck ton of water anyway, unless you wanna be hungover tomorrow, and I'd rather not hear you bitch about that.”

Kaminari giggled, grabbing Bakugou's hand. “Okay,” he sing-songed.

And Bakugou had thought Kaminari was a lot when he was sober. This was something else.

After a significant time fumbling with his keys, Kaminari managed to unlock the door to his apartment, immediately running inside to throw himself onto his couch. He let out a contented sigh, wrapping his arms around a throw pillow as he settled.

Bakugou quickly made his way to the kitchen to get a glass of water. The sooner he felt confident Kaminari wouldn't be insufferable in the morning, the sooner he could get out of this situation. Specifically away from his feelings for Kaminari, and how him being all over him was fucking with his head.

He was so focused on remembering where Kaminari kept his cups, he didn't even hear footsteps entering the kitchen.

He jolted as Kaminari wrapped his arms around him from behind, giving him an affectionate squeeze.

“What are you doing all the way in here?” Kaminari murmured against Bakugou's neck.

He shivered.

“I'm getting you some damn water, remember?” Bakugou said shortly.

Kaminari didn't move.

“Let me go so I can get you some water, and you can go to bed.”

“Aww, you're trying to get me in bed already? We haven't even kissed yet,” Kaminari said, his lips ghosting over Bakugou's neck.

Immediately, he pried Kaminari's hands off of him, spinning around to look at the other man, hands still gripping his wrists to keep him away.

“Kaminari, you’re drunk,” he stated, fighting to keep his voice steady. This was all too much.

Kaminari looked like a kicked puppy.

“So?” he whined.

So, you wouldn't be trying to feel me up and kiss me and flirt with me if you were sober,” Bakugou snapped.

Kaminari pouted, pulling his hands out of Bakugou's grasp to cross his arms. “Yeah, I would,” he argued like a petulant child.

Bakugou let out a shaky breath. “You’re drinking some damn water and going to bed. You're not even gonna remember this conversation in the morning, I bet, so just drop it.”

Kaminari suddenly looked like he was on the verge of tears, and in his drunken state, he probably was.

“I'm sorry,” he said softly, “I know you don't like me like that. I just thought…I don’t know. I’m sorry,” he sniffled.

Bakugou blinked, trying to process the words, heart racing. Was Kaminari saying he liked Bakugou like that?

He took a deep breath. “Kaminari, you're really drunk. I need you to go to sleep. We can talk about this when you're sober,” he grit out. This was not the time or place to have a conversation about feelings.

Kaminari nodded dejectedly.

Bakugou did his best to get him to drink some water, and got him into bed before leaving, feeling a swirl of emotions warring the entire time. He half hoped Kaminari would forget all of that, and that they wouldn't have to talk about it at all. Still, he couldn't stop thinking of the half-baked confession, and what it meant.

------

Kaminari: sorry about last night haha thanks for getting me home safe

Bakugou sighed, rubbing the grit out of his eyes irritably. He read the text over again. He didn't want to deal with this.

He didn't reply to the text, instead getting up to go about his normal morning routine. He could ignore it for now. Maybe Kaminari didn't even remember. Maybe he could ignore it forever.

He didn't get the chance to ignore it for long, though, when his phone started ringing with a call from Kaminari. He sighed.

“What's up?” He answered, trying his best to remain calm.

“Hey, um. Is this a bad time? I wanna talk about last night,” Kaminari said in a rush.

“Now is as good a time as any,” Bakugou said.

Kaminari let out an awkward laugh. “Look, I'm sorry about last night. I was way drunk, and it's all kinda blurry, but I know I was overstepping. I guess drunk me thought you taking me home meant you liked me back, and that was so not cool. I've kinda been freaking out about it all morning, so if we can just, like, forget it and go back to normal, that'd be great,” he rambled.

Bakugou blinked. “What does that even mean?”

Kaminari let out a shaky breath. “It’s not like me liking you is a secret, man, like I said, I'm sorry for overstepping. We can just go back to ignoring it for both of us, alight?”

“Well, that's fucking news to me.” Bakugou barked.

There was a pause.

“What?”

“I didn't know you were into me,” Bakugou said.

“Oh.” Kaminari squeaked, “Fuck.”

“I--”

“Sorry, I just made this twenty times more awkward, didn’t I? Oh my god. Just, forget it, forget I said that!” Kaminari said, his voice going up an octave as he panicked.

“I--” Bakugou started again, but the line went dead.

Great. Fucking awesome.

Bakugou got in his car, disregarding the plans he had for the rest of the day in favor of fixing this. He drove over as quickly as he could, cursing at every stoplight that he caught.

When he pulled into the apartment parking lot, he saw Kaminari’s car, and was relieved he was at least still home.

He made his way to the door, knocking while he tried to reel in his emotions.

When Kaminari opened the door, obviously shocked to see Bakugou, he looked like a mess. He’d clearly been crying, and despite Bakugou’s best efforts, he was probably a little hungover.

“I never said I didn’t like you back, idiot,” Bakugou said, without preamble.

Kaminari’s shocked expression became more exaggerated. “But, I thought--”

“Well, you thought wrong. I’ve been into you for a while. I thought you weren’t interested. And you were so drunk last night, I didn’t really think that meant anything,” Bakugou said, taking a step closer.

Kaminari looked at him, wide-eyed and a little nervous. “Oh.

“Yeah. So are you gonna kiss me or what?”

Kaminari practically threw himself at the other man, arms wrapping around his shoulders as he went in for a bit of a clumsy kiss. Bakugou found himself relaxing into it, the tension he’d been carrying since last night vanishing.

Maybe drinking with Kaminari hadn’t been such a terrible idea after all.
