    Summary

What do you call the years in which you find yourself?

Most people call it childhood. Hiro calls it high school. But he doesn't, really—when he thinks of those years, he thinks of Asahi long before he remembers the phrase 'high school'.

Hiro will think of these four years when he's grown, and he will think of it as the beginning of the end. He will think of it as the beginning of the end of his life, because there are two clear parts of his life: before Asahi and when he's with Asahi, and he will pray and pray to any higher power out there that there is no after Asahi.

During these four years, there is a beat-up notebook and there are missed piano notes and there are the high notes that we hit and there are the low notes that are off-key, and there are the soulmate moments—missing and there, the moment where you just know, where you just know that it's you. Where you just know that it's me.

During these four years, there are fairy lights and gift wrapping paper in the garbage and unfamiliar drum sets, and the man who is blind to the heart cradled in his hand. There is love, blood, and hate, and there is almost nothing Hiro or Asahi would change about it.
