Work Text:

There’s an invisible person in the bathroom with Nami, watching her shower.

They’ve followed her all over this island that’s not an island, this so–called Thriller Bark: through the haunted forest, past the undead graveyard, and into Hogback’s spooky mansion. They’ve seen her thunder chain tempo all the zombies, using her solid gold staff as a conduit.

Perhaps they think she’s defenseless without it. She’s naked. Her staff and the rest of her belongings are with Usopp and Chopper in the next room over. If that’s what they think, well… they couldn’t be more wrong.

The invisible person has a strange bioelectric signal. It’s not strange like Franky’s, who has a cyborg body, but strange like the many other residents of this cursed not–island. Not dead, and not quite alive either, but still very much susceptible to lightning.

Hogback doesn’t fool her. There’s something rotten at the heart of Thriller Bark, and he knows more than he’s letting on. Nami intends to find out what.

First, she must deal with her voyeur. The invisible person creeps closer and closer as she rinses her hair. They have an obvious advantage, but they’re good at being stealthy: they’re silent, not even their breath giving them away, and they avoid stepping in puddles. Of course, none of that matters when it’s her they’re stalking.

Nami sidesteps the invisible person as they reach for her. They stumble, surprised, and she pushes them down.

Water from the showerhead washes over them. Excellent. The invisible person, struggling to get up again, curses at her. They have a deep voice. A man, then? Disappointing, but not entirely unexpected.

Crackling energy surges through her. Nami lifts her foot. “I’d say better luck next time, asshole,” she says, stomping on the invisible man, “but there won’t be a next time.”

His writhing screams of agony are the perfect accompaniment to her thunderbolt aria. Music to her ears.

Ten seconds pass. Then thirty. One full minute goes by before the invisible man reappears. He looks like shit, burned to a crisp. Will he die? (Does she care?) Nami kicks his crotch a few times, hard, for good measure.

Now, for her payment… she checks his pockets and finds what she’s looking for. She smiles. His wallet is destroyed, but the fifty thousand beri inside it is perfectly fine. She takes his half–melted earrings and chains, too.

“Nami?!” That’s Usopp and Chopper. They pound on the bathroom door.

“Are you okay?” asks Chopper.

“What’s going on?” asks Usopp.

Nami wraps a towel around herself before letting them in. They better believe her this time. “We need to get out of here. Tonight.”
