"Everyone is here. Will you finally tell us her name?" Maddie pouted, annoyed at her brother and his husband. "They wouldn't even tell me, the favorite sister." She muttered to Athena as she handed the older woman a mimosa. She couldn't believe it, she was supposed to have special Auntie Maddie privileges.
"Hen is my favorite sister." Buck sidestepped the playful smack Maddie aimed at his arm. "Hey, come on. She found me my precious baby girl." He nodded toward Tommy, who was currently holding their precious baby girl. He could stare at that sight all day. Tommy was so sweet with their daughter. They'd only had her for three days, but she already had them both wrapped around her little finger.
"She was brought to the firehouse as a safe haven baby, I don't think that counts as me finding her." Hen shook her head. She had just happened to be the safe surrender employee that day. She hadn't thought anything of it when she handed the baby to Buck to cuddle while she got her kit to perform an exam. He wasn't willing to part with the infant and it only got worse when Tommy showed up. Hen was certain he didn't know anyone but Buck and the baby were there.
Eddie shot Maddie a commiserating look. "Buck wouldn't tell me either. His own best friend. I let him practice his child rearing on my son." He smiled gratefully at Sal when his boyfriend took his baby from him and handed him a mimosa. He took a sip and smiled again. "And Isabel wants to know her best friend's name."
Sal glanced down at the five month only baby in his arms as she let out the cutest little snore. "She's asleep, babe. I think our little Bel is the only one not dying to know Baby Kinard's name."
"I still can't believe they let you two have a baby." Chimney shook his head. "Buckaroo can't even take care of himself." He had to poke fun at his brother in law, but he was proud of him. And happy for him. He sat on the arm of the sofa next to Maddie. "I wish Bobby could see this." He said softly, just to her.
Maddie took her husband's hand and squeezed it. She agreed with the sentiment and was glad that Athena was there. "Please tell me my niece's name before I resort to drastic measures."
"We already did." Tommy murmured, unable to tear his eyes away from the baby in his arms. He couldn't believe anyone let him have a baby either. Evan was a sure thing, but he was a bad bet. He was so scared he was going to be a bad father, but he knew Evan would be amazing. When he felt a sharp poke in his side, he glared at his husband. "What?"
"You're a good father." Buck pressed a kiss to Tommy's temple. His thoughts had been easy to read. He looked around at his assembled family. They were nearly all there except Albert, who was in Korea and May and Harry, who were visiting their father. He frowned. "Hey, where's Ravi?"
"Kitchen, of course." Hen gestured to the room behind them. Ravi, as usual, had claimed to be starving and disappeared into the kitchen. He was probably anticipating missing Buck's cooking while he was on paternity leave. "And you have not told us your child's name."
Athena smirked, having figured it out. "Yes they have." She probably should have realized sooner, but she had been distracted by Buck. He had stumbled and fumbled asking her to take a grandmotherly role in the baby's life. He wanted to be sure that she and any other children he and Tommy had would have a large, loving family. She was happy to be a part of that family and only wished Bobby had gotten to be a grandpa.
Karen gestured to the flowers sitting prominently on the table, trying not to look smug. "They put it right under our noses."
"Are we supposed to know what kind of flowers those are?" Ravi asked in confusion while digging into the plate of food he'd made himself. Who knew anything beyond roses, daisies, and sunflowers?
"Iris Robert Kinard." Buck told them.
