Work Text:

Yoongi was finishing up in the kitchen when he heard little feet running toward where he was and his husband calling out.

“Gyu! Come back here! You need to put socks on!”

The giggles that came from the 6-year-old boy filled the apartment.

“Min Beomgyu, if you don’t stop running away from me, you’re not going to Uncle Jin’s concert!”

“Noooooo! I wanna see Uncle Jin!”

“Then come here!”

“Okay, Daddy!”

Yoongi chuckled as he heard their son go back to his room to let Jimin help him with his socks. Beomgyu was a little menace but, at the same time, he was the sweetest boy in existence.

A minute later, he heard steps in the hallway again, this time from two people, and soon enough Yoongi’s legs received a hug.

“Jiminie, is that you?” He joked.

“Hyung!” Jimin squeaked indignantly.

“No, Dad! It’s Gyu!” Their little boy answered between giggles.

“Oh, Gyu! Yes, you’re still shorter than your father.” Yoongi said, nonchalantly.

“Yoongi!” Jimin whined. “It’s your fault Gyu is so sassy!”

“My fault? Not at all!” Yoongi turned to face his husband. “You are the sassiest person in the house. He learns all this from you. I just do my best to keep up with you two.” Yoongi smirked.

Jimin wanted to wipe that smirk from his husband’s face, but he couldn’t do it the way he wanted in front of their innocent son. The only thing he could do for now was cross his arms and stare at Yoongi meaningfully.

“You’re impossible.”

“Right back at you, Jiminie.” The smirk didn’t fail.

Beomgyu – who was used to his parents forever bickering – ignored their conversation and asked Yoongi what he wanted to know.

“When are we going, Dad?”

Yoongi looked down and ruffled his son’s hair.

“Soon. I’m almost done. You can play for a little while in the living room.”

Beomgyu nodded and ran to the other room.

Jimin stepped into Yoongi’s space and pulled him in by his shirt.

“Don’t provoke me when we can’t do much about it.” And kissed him hard and fast before releasing his husband and walking away to finish getting ready.

Yoongi let a long breath out and shook his head, going back to tidying the kitchen so they could leave.

Half an hour later, they left home. Beomgyu was vibrating with excitement.

Although he was the son of a famous producer and a dancer, this would be his first concert. Yoongi and Jimin had taken him to TV shows before, only a few times, but never to outside concerts because they considered him too young for it.

But today’s concert was special. Jin was not only someone Yoongi and Jimin worked with, but they were also great friends for years. And he had supported the couple ever since the start of the adoption process. Today’s concert opened the superstar’s new tour, and he had invited Beomgyu directly – after asking for permission to do so from the boy’s parents.

Yoongi and Jimin had fond smiles on their lips, observing Beomgyu’s excitement on the car ride to the stadium.

“Uncle Jin said we have special chairs, and he also said that I need to go backstage to see how it works.” Beomgyu looked from one of his fathers to the other. “But I don’t know what a ‘backstage’ is.”

Jimin struggled to hold his giggles. Lucky for them, Yoongi had a better resting face.

“Backstage is what the public doesn’t see. It’s the place behind the stage where the crew that helps with the concert stays, and it’s where the artist gets ready to go on stage.” He explained. “It’s a little like the dressing rooms in the TV stations, but bigger.”

“Oh!” Beomgyu was impressed.

“Why didn't you ask Uncle Jin about it?” Jimin asked.

“Because he says I'm smart. And I'm not smart if I don't know something.”

Jimin and Yoongi exchanged a look.

“Actually, you're smart when you don't understand something and you ask for an explanation too.” Jimin explained. “Nobody knows everything. It's fine to ask about what you don't know. And Uncle Jin would’ve gladly explained if you had asked him.”

“So, when you don’t understand something, ask for an explanation, ok, Gyu?” Yoongi completed.

“Okay, Dads! I’ll ask next time!” The boy nodded.

“Great!” Jimin smiled at his son and ruffled his hair. “You do that.”

They arrived at the venue and got in through the artist entrance, cleared by Seokjin’s company. Hoseok – Seokjin’s manager and their friend – met them in the parking lot.

“Our special guest is in the house, everyone!” He announced boisterously.

Beomgyu got out of the car giggling.

“Hi, Uncle Hobi!”

“Hi, little man!” Hoseok opened his arms and Beomgyu jumped on him.

Yoongi and Jimin stood together, observing their son have fun. Jimin intertwined his pinky with Yoongi’s and leaned closer.

“Your first concert! Are you excited?”

“I am!”

“Let’s get you backstage, then!” Hoseok winked at his friends. “You can come too, guys.”

“Very funny, Hobi hyung.” Jimin cackled, rolling his eyes, and following him inside with Yoongi.

While they walked to the dressing room, Hoseok showed Beomgyu around and explained everything the boy asked about. Jimin and Yoongi were endeared and satisfied he had taken their advice to heart.

“Where is Uncle Jin?” Beomgyu asked at some point.

“Tired of it all, already?” Hoseok joked, but he wasn’t far from the truth, Beomgyu wasn’t tired per se, but he was getting bored. “We’re almost there.” He said and pointed at a door a few steps ahead of them. “Look at the sign there.”

The boy looked and brightened up again. The sign at the door read “Worldwide Handsome Tuna Man Jin”, with a picture of Seokjin in a tuna-shaped hat on the side. The group waited until Beomgyu could read the whole sign – he was still learning, but he was very good at it.

“Knock.” Hoseok instructed the boy.

Beomgyu knocked and the door was opened by a tall, built man.

“Hey, Gyu!”

“Uncle Namjoon!” Beomgyu squeaked and threw his body forward.

Thankfully that gesture was routine for them and Namjoon was fast in catching the boy. He laughed and took Beomgyu inside, followed by the others.

In the dressing room, Seokjin was doing hair and make-up. He smiled at his friends through the mirror and called the boy closer with a gesture of his finger. Namjoon went to him and put Beomgyu on his lap.

“Are you having fun, Little Guy?” Seokjin asked.

“I am, Uncle Jin!”

Yoongi and Jimin were observing from behind when Jimin noticed someone from Seokjin’s crew aim a camera at the singer and his son. They didn’t expose Beomgyu. Never. So, he got worried, even though Jimin knew Seokjin was well aware that they didn’t like to show their son on camera.

“Jin hyung?” He said, catching the other’s attention.

“Yes, Jimin-ah?”

“Can they not film Gyu?”

Seokjin looked around the room through the mirror and noticed the crew member who put worry on his friend’s voice.

“Of course, Jimin. Everyone knows the rules.” Seokjin said sternly and Hoseok immediately went to the camera person to stop them.

“Thanks, hyung.”

“No need for it.” Seokjin turned his attention back to the boy in his lap. “So, Gyu, before you go to your place in the audience, I have a favor to ask you.”

“Me?”

“Yes. It’s very important!”

Beomgyu perked up in Seokjin’s lap.

“What is it, Uncle Jin?”

“I need you to go to the other room with Hoseok and choose an outfit for me. For my special performance of Super Tuna.”

“Wow!” The boy was shocked.

“And you must keep it a secret from everyone, including your dads. Only Hoseok will know your choice.”

Beomgyu’s eyes got bigger than they already were and he looked from Seokjin to his parents in search of what to do. He wasn’t supposed to keep secrets from his parents. But both Jimin and Yoongi smiled and nodded at him, so Beomgyu relaxed.

“Okay, Uncle Jin! I’ll choose the best outfit ever!”

“I’m sure you will.” Seokjin giggled and ruffled his hair.

“Come on, Gyu. Let’s do this!” Hoseok helped the boy down of the singer’s lap and led him to the adjoining room.

The others watched them leave in silence. Beomgyu’s energy matched Hoseok’s so well it was always cute to observe them interact. When the door closed behind the manager and the boy, Jimin turned back to Seokjin.

“Thanks, hyung. Gyu is having a blast.”

“No need to thank me, Jimin. I love to make my nephew happy.” Seokjin winked to his friend.

“You enjoy spoiling the heck out of my son, that’s the truth.” Yoongi said bluntly, a tiny hint of a smirk in the corner of his mouth.

“That’s exactly what uncles are for. I am allowed to spoil him. You’re the ones in charge of educating him.” Seokjin cackled his characteristic windshield wiper laugh.

“And we appreciate the spoiling, hyung.” Jimin said softly. “But, please, don’t overdo it. My parents need to have more range there than you.”

“What? I’m competing with the grands now?” The makeup was done, so Seokjin turned his chair fully toward his friends.

“Hyung…” Namjoon came to his side, putting a hand on his shoulder. “Don’t take this as a challenge. Jimin means exactly the opposite of it.”

“Yes, Joon hyung! He loves you guys already; you don’t need to give him things every time you visit.” Jimin fidgeted a little.

“I’ll not stop giving Gyu things from time to time.” Seokjin said seriously. “Sometimes I see something that is obviously to his liking, and I just have to give it to him.”

“We’re fine with ‘sometimes’, hyung.” Yoongi said, also serious. “Just don’t do ‘every time’. Some gestures like today’s are as valuable as things. Even more, actually.”

Everyone stopped talking when they heard the door to the adjoining room opening again.

“I have to say this little guy is a genius!” Hoseok said excitedly. “You will love his choice, Jin hyung!”

“Of course, my boy is a genius. He takes after his father.” Yoongi joked.

“Yes. Me.” Jimin giggled out.

The look on Yoongi’s face made the trio of friends laugh loudly.

A knock on the door interrupted them, and all but Beomgyu understood what it meant.

“Well, my friends, while you decide who is the genius one, my love will take you to your seats.” Seokjin said, holding Namjoon’s hand and getting up. “And you, my little friend,” he said to Beomgyu, bopping his nose. “Have lots of fun!”

“I will, Uncle Jin!” The boy beamed.

Yoongi held out his hand to his son and Beomgyu went to him, taking it. Jimin flanked them on the other side and held the boy’s hand too, making them a unit – as it had always been, a unit that grew even stronger after Gyu’s adoption.

Seokjin and Hoseok observed them leaving behind Namjoon and smiled at each other, happy for their friends.

On the way to their seats, Jimin, Yoongi and Namjoon tried to make Beomgyu tell them his choice, but the boy was tight-lipped because he had promised Uncle Jin, and then Uncle Hobi, he was going to keep the secret no matter what.

“But we are your daddies, Gyu!” Jimin whined.

“And you told me when we promise something we have to keep the promise.”

“We also told you shouldn’t keep secrets from us.” Jimin insisted.

“If the secret is not good.” Beomgyu retorted. “This secret is good.” He smiled widely, making his father sigh. “And I looked when Uncle Jin made me promise and you both nodded, so you gave permission.”

Jimin shook his head, impressed by the fact that they didn’t break Beomgyu’s stance. Then he decided to put it on his husband’s account.

“It’s your fault he talks back like this, Yoongi!”

Before Yoongi could retort, starting yet another bickering match, Namjoon interrupted them.

“Do not start this again. We can only take so much, right, Gyu?” He winked at the boy, who laughed.

“Hey!” Jimin squealed.

His indignation only made his son and friend laugh more. Even Yoongi opened a gummy smile, which won him a slap on the chest.

Recovering from the laughing fit, Namjoon stopped the family for an instant.

“We will go in the open now. We have a safe corridor to use, but the little guy here might be surprised by the amount of people out there.”

“Okay, Gyu.” Yoongi nodded at Namjoon and looked at his son, squeezing his hand. “You will see a big crowd, and they will be screaming for Uncle Jin, but we will be safe, okay?”

“I know, Dad. I saw videos of concerts before, remember?”

Jimin giggled. Their son was a smart-mouth all right.

“We know. But don’t let go of our hands, okay?”

“Okay, Daddy.” The boy sighed and shook his head as if he was big enough and didn’t need to be reminded of the rules.

All settled, Namjoon led them out into the field, and they walked to a tent in the back. When Jimin saw the chairs, he was certain they would only serve Beomgyu to stand over them to have a better view. And he was right. The boy stood on one immediately and Jimin and Yoongi had to flank him, worried he could tumble down while jumping during the concert.

They had lots of fun enjoying Seokjin’s stage presence and playfulness. When he came back on stage after a change of wardrobe, the whole stadium cracked in laughter because his outfit was outrageous – but in a funny way. Jimin almost fell to the ground from how much he laughed.

On the stage, Seokjin did his special performance of Super Tuna. At the end, he interacted with the audience.

“As you all can see, I’m wearing a special outfit chosen by one of my precious people. And no, it wasn’t my love. It was my darling nephew. Please clap to thank him for the laugh.” He looked toward the back, in the direction his friends were. “Thanks, Little Guy. You’re a genius!”

Beomgyu had the biggest smile on his face. He was shining with delight. Jimin and Yoongi were so proud of him and told him so between their laughs. Namjoon also complimented the boy and promised to make Jin wear the outfit again to take pictures with him, making Beomgyu ecstatic.

The boy was proud of his choice too: instead of going with the pre-organized outfits available, he mixed two up. He chose hanbok pants and hat, and a dobok coat. It didn’t match but it gave him the right feeling for his favorite song. And when Hoseok said he had made a great choice, Beomgyu was sure of his idea.

Knowing now that his Uncle Jin also approved made him the happiest yet.

“This is a do-bok even when it is not a dobok or a hanbok.” Seokjin continued, playing with the words. “Such a smart choice. I clearly taught him well.”

Laughing his trademark windshield wiper laugh, Seokjin went backstage for another change and Jimin and Yoongi took the break to celebrate Beomgyu.

“Uncle Jin liked it!” The boy said.

“He loved it, baby!” Jimin beamed. “You’re perfect! So smart, my little Gyu!” He kissed his son’s forehead.

“Everyone loved your choice, Gyu! You did a great job!” Yoongi also beamed. “It’s unforgettable!”

“What is that?” Beomgyu tilted his head, suddenly unsure of what his dad meant. “I don’t know the word.”

“Unforgettable means no one will ever forget the outfit you chose for your Uncle Jin.” Yoongi explained, smiling softly at his son. “And you’re doing a great job asking what you don’t know, too. I’m very proud of you, son.” He ruffled Beomgyu’s hair and won a bright smile and a big hug.

Then Seokjin came back on stage, and they continued to enjoy the concert until the end. After, the family went backstage again, where they took lots of pictures that would be kept private from the media and internet to protect Beomgyu, but that would be displayed in their house to mark that day.

Then it was time to go back home, and Beomgyu chatted non-stop until he fell asleep in Jimin’s arms halfway home. It had been a long and eventful day, after all.

Yoongi moved closer to Jimin, placing his son’s legs over his own and hugging his husband. They enjoyed the silence and the sweetness of the boy in their laps for the rest of the ride.

The inspiration came from a picture of YoonMin at Jin's concert with Beomgyu from TXT appearing behind them.

This fills my Humor square on Sweet BTS Bingo.
