Chapter Text

Ring ring! The Royal bells have sounded! Many fairies scurry to serve his highness; Gempa the earth fairy, the bane of the fairy world’s existence.

There were two sections of families differing from the almighty one of the earth: fairies of joy and service. The joy fairies for example were the fire fairies, traders that had an ever burning passion to make the best out of their life and all their stalls, Nature fairies which would tend the land at the dusk of every morning, and the Wind Fairies were poets; jesters that would tell tales to the king; their whole existence to put a smile on someone’s face. Meanwhile the service fairies were made up of the ice fairies, they were silent but were great fortune tellers, serving as an emotional harbour, Light fairies that roused the sun every morning, pouring its ever radiant light onto all of the land. And lastly, the thunder fairies, these fairies served as weapons;soldiers with their quick reflexes. All of them born to serve their king and prosper his land.

But the problem was.. service fairies and joy fairies could never interact. It was against the rules of fairykind. Because if it impacted the certain character of one of them too much, their role on fairy land would be tarnished, causing chaos and unbalance to the fairy world.

But once upon a time, in his universe, two fairies defied the odds forever. Let me tell you the story of two fairies; a fairy of the wind, Taufan and a fairy of thunder, Halilintar.

__________________________

Taufan was a wind fairy, but he was unique. Yes, like his other wind fairies he was a poet, a jester but he wasn’t just any normal fairy. He had this charm that would lure you in in an instant, an unbeatable aura that screamed “look at me!” He as a street performer, a dedicated one on a mission to put a smile on everyone’s faces.

Halilintar was a thunder fairy, but he was different too. Just like all the rest of his peers, he was a soldier. But he served as Gempa’s Royal guard, his second in command. With his loyalty unwavering and strong. He was also stronger than most of the thunder fairies, figures why he would have such a high rank.

It was a normal day in fairyland. Halilintar stood beside his highness’ side as the king signed papers endlessly. Or not anymore, once he had just finished.

“Ah.. I’m finally finished,” Gempa heaved a high of relief, slumping back onto his throne. “My king, you shan’t not slack, you still have many duties to complete.” Halilintar firmly reminded the young yet responsible king.

“Halilintar, my old friend. It is fine. All I have to complete now is go take a visit to the fairy village of joy to sign a contract with their mayor to approve some sort of new bakery,” Gempa gently hummed, reassuring the knight as he gracefully stepped down from his throne.

“Blaze! Please prepare the carriages!” Gempa called out to his servant, Blaze the fire fairy.

“You’ve got it, your highness!” Blaze posed a salute before scurrying to prepare the carriage. A vein popped in Halilintar’s head, “my king, Aren't you mad at such a disgraceful act of behaviour? He was speaking in such a casual, informal tone with you!” He grumbled as they walked the red carpet out of the throne room.

“It’s alright, I enjoy Blaze’s enthusiasm. It brings joy to my days. After all, I don’t live forever, I am nothing but a mortal,” Gempa chuckled lightly, closing the throne room door behind them.

“Besides, get ready to set off to the joy fairy’s village. I am going to go get changed so I may need your assistance to guard the door for any intruders,” Gempa instituted the knight.

“At your service,” Halilintar nodded, about to follow Gempa when he spoke again. “Oh, and remember Halilintar. Do not mingle with any fairies of joy.”

Halilintar paused,

“Of course, my liege.”

The streets of Joy bustled and hustled. Fire fairies yelled across the atmosphere, shamelessly marketing their items. Nature fairies frolicked in the fields, giggling and laughing with excitement. Wind fairies danced and sang together with joy, their energy undying.

As the king and his loyal knight arrived, the Joy fairies immediately quieted down, leaving an empty role for Gempa and Halilintar to walk through. Halilintar stayed silent; still. His gaze locked forward, avoiding all distractions. After all, he could not interact with any other fairy in those streets. But accidentally, had he came in eye contact with a pair of lively sapphire eyes across the room. But he quickly just averted it and kept walking, his composure never ending.

Once the two arrived at the place in where Gempa was supposed stop finish his duties at, he immediately got to work.

Halilintar stood at a standstill, eyes darting left to right when he heard a faint rustle behind him, his head lashed back quickly in an instant, his eyes growing sharper after sharper, with suspicion boiling in his guts.

“Take care of his highness for me, guards. I think I hear someone..” Halilintar murmured, slowly walking towards the source of sound; a cupboard. He lifted his blade, taking careful, sneaky steps similar to the ones of a mouse; quiet, silent.

With eyebrows knitted in deep concentration he got ready to attack, ready to lunge at whatever was in the closet. That’s when the closet rattled. Halilintar froze.

And in a blink of an eye, a figure came darting out of it. “!” Halilintar took awhile to process what just happened before speeding after the figure at lightning speed. His eyes darted left to right in a precise, calculated manner as he scanned the perimeter for the figure.

There! He quickened his pace, and soon they ended up in a dark alleyway. The hooded figure took tentative steps back, hands up in surrender. as Halilintar raised his blade at him.

“Hali! Chill, it’s me!” The wind fairy sputtered out, his heart palpitating wildly in his chest as he threw off his hood. His pupils as small as atoms as he breathed in at out, breath heavy.

Halilintar blinked twice, confusion written all over his face as his gaze softened. “T..Taufan?”

“Yeah, that’s me! I think you know my name PRETTY WELL by now! Now could you- perhaps… lower… your blade now?” Taufan grinned awkwardly, pointing down at it from his arms already wide open for a hug.

The thunder fairy, pursed his lips. Holding in the tears that brimmed his ruby eyes. Followed by a loud clatter as his blade hit the ground. He hugged Taufan tight, under a warm embrace. For a second, Taufan was caught off guard, but he soon adjusted, leaning into the long awaited hug too.

”OH MY GOSH! I’m like- sosoSO happy to see you!!I-I thought I’d never see you again but—you’re here! GOSH! I’m so fucking happy!” Taufan squealed, twirling the other around in the air in a fit of excitement. his smile beamed brightly from ear to ear, giddy with child-like joy, barely containing his excitement. Halilintar flushed a deep shade of red, biting his inner lip as he mumbled. “Gosh, put me down, idiot…”

Taufan chuckled, smiling sheepishly, both of their faces still plastered with a flustered expression, one still stupidly grinning while the other averted his gaze. Halilintar cleared his throat, breaking the ice. “U-uh.. i really missed…” he murmured, feeling his cheeks burn up with every word, “I REALLY missed you too. Because.. I-I do really… like-love you. ”

“hah…” Taufan breathed, his voice airy. “Me.. too. I love you too,”He smiled shyly, locking his gaze with his partner.

”But what were you thinking creeping around earlier like that?!” Halilintar sighed, rubbing his temples, I got so worried, you KNOW there is someone after his Highness right?”

”I KNOW, I KNOW!! AUGHH!! I just got so excited to see you, I had to follow you to make sure it was you, ya know?? It’s so rare I do! Gosh, When was the last I even saw you?” Taufan's blinking rate was rapid as he gushed. “I think.. it's been months,” Halilintar recalled, his gaze tilted up.

“Wait, can anyone see us here?” Halilintar hushed, looking around. “Don’t worry, I already cast an invisibility spell on us,” Taufan assured him, patting his shoulder, although his touch lingered there longer than it should.

Halilintar looked up at the sky, gradients of orange and pink began to pour into the atmosphere. “The sun is setting, I better get back…” Halilintar sighed, about to walk off when he felt a hand grab his wrist. “Wait,” Taufan called out, “I need to show you something. Please?” He smiled shyly, staring at the thunder fairy with too much love in his eyes that glimmered from the golden sun at dawn.

Halilintar simply couldn’t resist those sapphire eyes. He froze, staring at the wind fairy for a short while, a flush creeping across his cheeks, contemplating whether he should go or not. “Uh.. Alright then. Lead me, Taufan,” Halilintar replied, tone firm yet shy as he took a slight bow. Taufan, amused, chuckled lightly then followed along with the banter. “With pleasure, Halilintar.” He spoke, tone warm and light as he bowed down to his angle, smiling softly with a winked eye as he extended his hand to his boyfriend.

Halilintar glanced at his hand, then back at his partner. He tentatively placed his fingers on his palm, sparks of red electricity bubbling between them. Halilintar quickly then placed the rest of his hand onto Taufan’s, putting an end to the sparks. Just warmth now, the same heat between the two hands. The wind fairy intertwined their fingers together, then looked up at the soldier with a smile full of hope. And without another word, they were off, running through the bustling market streets of the fairy village of Joy.

Taufan halted at a cliff at the end of a forest, a perfect view of the skyline and bushes of roses on the field of grass.

They both slowly walked towards the edge and sat down on the edge. “Taufan.. This place…”Halilintar gasped, absorbing the surroundings around him.

”I know,” Taufan blushed, averting his gaze as he scratched the back of his neck. “I knew you love roses, so..” He plucked a rose from a bush, “When i saw this place,” he sat down next to Halilintar at the edge of the cliff. “I thought of you!” He smiled, placing the rose in Halilintar’s brunette hair.

Halilintar stared at him with a look of pure fascination, eyes wide as he watched the wind fairy. Similar to a cat to its owner. His fragile yet dazzling blue wings shimmering under the horizon and his smile shining light, illuminating the atmosphere around them. His sapphire eyes that shone just like the jewel it was named, glimmering with shades of gold, silver and more. Eyes that would naturally pull you in in an instant. The knight hated Taufan. He hated how he was so effortlessly flawless, he hated how his crooked smile would be enough to make a swarm of butterflies infiltrate and fill his stomach, he hated how he looked up more to him than his own ruler, he hated his selflessness and how much he cared for everyone. But he didn’t hate him, that was the problem. He loved him.

Joy fairies are never supposed to interact with service fairies.. But why so? It never felt wrong to Halilintar; it actually felt… right. Just. Warm. A feeling so unexplainably complex, it couldn’t be phrased into mere strokes. And surprisingly, he found himself inching closer to the wind fairy; the exact species he would be banished to interact with, or even worse touch. But in that moment he hit a realisation. He did not care. As long as it was for this fairy, this being, he would devote his lifetime to him. Besides, that was what thunder fairies were known for, their undying loyalty.

Maybe it was all in a moment but as Taufan stared at the sky, with a gentle touch, Halilintar, on instincts, cupped the wind fairy’s cheek, tracing . For a split second, Taufan turned to stare at him for a bit, a confused smile spread across his face. The knight moved slowly towards the poet, wanting the inmost. He was getting greedy, he knew that. But at this point, his urges controlled his body.

“Hm-?” Taufan prompted, curiosity flickering in his eyes as his usually distant partner faced him. But the moment their gaze locked, the uncertainty shattered. The air thickened, the faint sound of the outside world dimmed, and before Taufan could even shape the words resting on his tongue, Halilintar closed the distance.

Their lips met.

It was sudden, so sudden it felt like a lightning strike, bright and unrelenting. Taufan's breath caught in his throat, his mind blanking in shock. For a fleeting heartbeat, the world seemed to stop ticking and the ode from his hair fell. The air stilled, the rustle of leaves, the distant hum of life, even the presence of others until it all dissolved into nothingness. There was only the warmth of Halilintar's lips and the intensity behind them.

As if on instinct, the thunder fairy pulled away, Taufan’s hands still gripping his collar, the doubt began to creep in. What he was doing was wrong, service and joy are never meant to
Interact. But wait. This is Taufan.. the fairy he had loved and still does. And for the longest time possible, Taufan was his saviour; his escape from the mundane and dull world of routine he lived in as a knight.

And he did love him.

Before he could even finish his train of thoughts, Taufan, Without hesitation, he surged forward, capturing Halilintar's lips in return. His kiss was no less sudden, but this time it was molten where the first had been sharp, a wave of warmth surging through his chest. Passion poured out of him, all the words he could never bring himself to say over those long, long months, pressed into that one sweet kiss.

Halilintar froze for a split second, caught off guard, before something inside him gave way. His hands moved on their own, sliding up to cup Taufan's cheeks, his thumbs brushing against warm skin. He tilted his head, deepening the kiss, pulling Taufan impossibly closer as if afraid he might slip away. As the greedy being Taufan was, he wrapped his hands around his waist, pulling the thunder fairy closer. Goosebumps swarming every part of his body.

They parted once again, both breathless. “Fuck.. I look like a mess,” Halilintar heaved, averting his gaze from the sapphire eyed fairy. “The prettiest mess…” Taufan said under his breath, a smile spreading before pulling him in once more as he tugged him by the collar.

As they finally parted, Halilintar snapped out of his vulnerability and jumped back in shock, face burning red brighter than a fire fairy on a winter night as he used his sleeve to cover his mouth.

“Crikey!” Taufan gushed out, between heavy breaths, without even noticing what he just said in the gist of the moment.

“You sound ridiculous..” Halilintar chuckled, “high pitched and all.” He said, nearly as if he didn’t look and sound as bad.

“At least my hair isn’t in a mess,” Taufan giggled, adrenaline still pumping from the kiss that had just occurred. “Who told you to ruffle it all up? I have a job to get back to,” Halilintar grumbled, barely containing his excitement with a frown. Taufan lay on his shoulder one last time, watching the sun finally set into the horizon as he fixed his hair and attire up.

“You look so beautiful today.”

“Shut it. You always say that...” He hissed, blushing wildly.

Taufan simply laughed gently.

“It’s true.. you're still as beautiful as the day I met you.” Taufan finished off, tucking a strand of Halilintar’s hair behind his ear.

“But I guess poor little Hali can’t even handle a small compliment even after a kiss,” Taufan cooed, almost as if mocking him. Halilintar simply grumbled, eyes darting away in an instant. At this point, night had settled amongst the two. Time was ticking, time that they could never get back.

It was time to say goodbye soon. And Taufan wasn’t happy. He just wanted to see the face of his lover everyday, he wanted to wake up to see him by his side everyday, staring at him with his awe-struck eyes. But then again, he could just disappear again and get away; like he always does. And Taufan understands, Halilintar was a rather busy individual, working for the king himself. But a very selfish part of him wanted him all to himself. Because to him; Halilintar was his Saint. Taufan was a sinner; always deceiving, always wearing the smile people were the most pleased to see so they would not leave. But Halilintar was never afraid to displease someone, he was uniquely himself and lives… for himself.

Taufan couldn't hold it in anymore, he held Halilintar tight as he broke out wailing, burying his head deep into his shoulder. Grip tightening with every second so maybe, hopefully, he wouldn’t leave this time.

“Please don’t leave me…please! I’m so sick is pleasing everyone around me no one loves the real me.. they only see the facade of me, I feel empty, fake, a liar, A SINNER.” Taufan sobbed, his eyes glossy, pouring out with tears. “But with you.. I feel happy so, so happy!” He smiled bittersweetly, gazing up longingly at Halilintar grabbing botg his hands.

Halilintar was caught off guard, left in a state of surprise. “Taufan…”

“And maybe, just maybe.. if I stay with you long enough I’ll be happy forever! WE’LL be happy forever.. I know that job of yours is tough.. so just please. Stay.. is that too much to ask for?” Taufan sniffled, his tear stained eyes shone with hope, yet doubt creeped into his smile.

“I’m sorry. I wish I could stay here with you forever too. But as a knight, it is my duty to stay loyal to the king and be by his side,” Halilintar sighed, averting his eyes, weighing heavy with guilt as he held in tears. “But..” his voice shook, yet remaining steady, “just remember, anytime you think of me.. I’ll be thinking of you too. Even if we’re miles away, even if we’re worlds or even universes. And no matter who I serve, you will always be my saviour, Taufan.” Halilintar smiled softly, caressing Taufan’s cheek in a circular motion, leaning his forehead against the other's as he gripped Taufan’s right hand tightly.

Halilintar pulled Taufan into one more soft, tender kiss. Taufan reached out to grab his face but before he knew it, it was gone. Halilintar stood up and grab his blade, taking a few steps before looking back, tears swirling in the deep depths of his eyes.

“Goodbye, my dear. Until next time,” He stammered. “Farewell, my Saint.. I’ll be waiting, as always.” Taufan mumbled softly and with that he was gone. He stayed silent, watching Halilintar slowly descend into the forest.

And until this day, Taufan still waits for him, his heart calling out to him over and over again. As long as it takes for his Saint to come back to him one day as he plucks the petals of a rose.
