Work Text:
Yunho returned home from his late-night shift, tip-toeing into the bedroom he shared with Mingi. It was 1:30am, and his tread was heavy in his exhaustion. Yunho attempted to walk softly through their room, trying his hardest not to wake his sleeping boyfriend.
The light illuminating their bedroom through the cracked door allowed Yunho to see his Mingi lie under their blanket in the exact same position they always cuddled in; muscle memory. Yunho’s t-shirt encased Mingi as he slept, the stuffed animal he gave the older man when they were teenagers wrapped in his arms. Yunho looked, awestruck, at Mingi as he slept so sweetly. Small sighs slipping from his parted lips as his chest rose and fell.
Yunho slipped out of his scrubs and into a t-shirt and a pair of shorts before brushing his teeth and doing his skincare routine. He rushed through his nighttime routine, eager to hold Mingi in his arms again, just as he had been doing for the past 10 years; what he hoped to do for the rest of his life.
He pattered over to their bed, smiling as he pulled the blanket over himself. He inched his body towards Mingi, smiling again as their forms melded together, arms wrapping around his lover protectingly.
Mingi groaned softly as he felt Yunho’s arms wrapping around him, being roused from his sleep. “mmh, Yunho, you’re back.” His voice was small as he wiggled his body impossibly closer to Yunho’s, craving more of his touch.
“Hi princess, i’m back. Sorry for waking you.” Yunho’s tone was apologetic as he pressed a gentle kiss to the crown of Mingi’s head. “How was your day, Min?” his voice was low, hands rubbing soothing circles on Mingi’s hips as he waited for a reply that didn’t come. Mingi had fallen asleep in his arms, just like they both loved.
Yunho sighed contently, pressing another soft kiss on Mingi’s crown before closing his eyes and lulling off to sleep, his lover held gently in his arms.
Yunho woke in late morning to barren arms and Mingi’s side of the bed empty. His hands came up to rub the sleepiness from his eyes before he rose to find his lover. As he inched closer to their bedroom door, closer to the rest of their apartment, he smelled kimchijeon, his favorite.
He walked loud enough for Mingi to hear, causing the younger man, who had just finished plating their breakfast, to spin around on his feet, locking eyes with Yunho. His cheeks and ears burned red as his gaze set upon Mingi’s hands, the shorter man stepping closer to lace his fingers around Yunho’s wrist. Every millisecond of contact set off sparks in Mingi’s nervous system.
Yunho could stay like this forever, inches away from Mingi’s face as his lover held some part, any part of him, gently and securely, like he was afraid he’d never get to touch it again if he let go.
Yunho broke from his love struck haze when Mingi pressed a soft kiss to his lips. “Good morning, sunshine.”
Yunho blushed, pecking Mingi’s lips. “Good morning, Min. I’m sorry I woke you up when I got into bed last night.” He couldn’t meet Mingi’s gaze in that moment.
“I’d much rather you wake me up in the middle of the night getting to bed than getting up in the morning and realizing you haven’t even come home yet.” Mingi laced their hands together, rubbing the top of Yunho’s hand with his thumb. “Now let’s eat, I know hospital food isn’t your favorite.” He lead Yunho to the table.
“Min, I can get my own food.” Yunho spoke, rising from his seat.
Mingi’s lips turned into a pout as he stood over the stovetop. “No, Yunho, sit down. You’ve had a long week. Being a dental surgery resident is hard work, please let me take care of you.” He turned around, two plates of kimchijeon and banchan in his hands.
“Alright, Mingi. Anything for you, princess.” Yunho’s tone was teasing, causing Mingi’s eyes to crinkle as he smiled widely. Yunho stared at his boyfriend as he walked to the table and set their plates down.
Yunho couldn’t wait to propose to Mingi, to truly devote himself to the love of his life. He already had the ring, he just needed to do it; he was ready.
They ate in a comfortable silence, Yunho finishing his food long before Mingi. He watched the younger man eat with slow, careful bites.
Mingi finished his breakfast, rising from his seat and taking their plates to the sink. “What are we doing today?” The younger man asks, rinsing off the dishes before placing the ceramic plates gently in the dishwasher.
“you just want to stay in today and order takeout for dinner?” yunho asks, rising to his feet and padding over to mingi, wrapping his big hands around mingi’s small waist.
“i’d love nothing more”
