Middle of a patrol 2am on top of a roof, sudden source of light that's so bright it has Bruce tackling Tim to the ground only to realize its coming from Tims freckles but they aren’t freckles. Both realize at the same time what it means and then the light fades away again. His soulmate is alive. A close call, to be sure. Tim stays at the manor that night, nursing a mug of hot chocolate and staring at nothing.
Then it happens again
And again
His soulmate literally keeps fucking dying and every time he does Tim’s soulmark lights up with a faint green glow. Which means he goes from having what looks like regular freckles, to having glowing freckles.
Bruce is running himself ragged trying to find Tim’s soulmate and J’onn, upon scanning his mind, tentatively let out the suggestion that Tim’s soulmate’s being experimented on.
