Usually when stories start, they start with 'Once upon a time', but this one started with a small, unnoticeable DM which would've been missed, had Hoyeol not been lamenting his lack of a personal life and connections.
—Hey, this might be a strange question, but four years ago, were you using discord?
Now in any case Hoyeol would brush a random message off as spam, since that was usually only what he got these days. But it was the preview of the message which made him click onto it. He'd never heard of this sort of spam before. And then he paused, was he using that app years ago? Maybe, it might've been during the time he decided he had nothing to do and spent his time lurking online with numerous online friends, before his sisters saw the state of his discord and took it away from him.
So in short, a shameful past.
—uh? Y.. yeah..??
But curiosity reigns over all, and he decided to answer the honestly inconsiderate question for the sake of it. He was already bored anyways, what would texting a random person online do anyways.
—And then.. Did you go by the handle '######'?
—???
—?howd you k..now
—Did you also talk with someone who went by the handle of '######'?
—yyeah, u did

—Well, that's me. Back then, you asked if I'd find you, if you ever were to suddenly stop texting me back.
—I never forgot the promise.
—........NO WAY
—ITS U
—WHAT
—Apologies for taking so long. But if I'm not too late, would it be fine if we were to continue being friends?
—HELPME OBVIOUSLY.,,,
—PRACTICSLLY A GODSEND HELLLOOOOO
—Ah. I'm glad.
It was incredibly absurd, but the details matched too well. In actuality, that specific person was the one Hoyeol had never forgotten, not when he finally grew out of his phase of being edgy and chronically online. It was the first, and maybe the only person he genuinely seemed to connect with, even if they were truthfully way better than him, in a lot of different ways. Yet even with all they could do, they never failed to tolerate Hoyeol's presence, always dealing with his ramblings and thoughts patiently, no matter how embarrassing.
He found it absurdly funny how they took such a passing comment seriously, but he was glad they did, Hoyeol really didn't know why things seemed to click in place so suddenly, as if an untold story finally was able to clear its throat and begin to speak.
And then they gwt married happy every after
