   Summary

   Sampson, a half-human, half-monster, lives in grief and despair after monsters are banished underground by humans following a brutal war. Sam never fought in the war—he was too weak, discouraged by his human partner, Anthony, who feared for his safety. Despite this, Sam is now trapped underground, separated from Anthony and their unborn daughter, a fragile egg left in Anthony’s care on the surface.
