Chapter Text
There is a town just off of Route 201, hidden beyond a small patch of trees. Walking around there might be a few that looks funny but it leads to a place full of history, discipline, festivals, and… is that a Samurai Lopunny kicking out some Team Galactic grunts?

🌸 Pokédex Entry
Genesis Town, once called Sōsei-ki Mura, is a quiet settlement nestled in an isolated valley of Sinnoh. The town is not part of the official Gym Challenge route and sees few visitors, but it is renowned among scholars and travelers for its:
Vast flower fields that bloom nearly year-round, including sakura groves that paint the town pink every spring.
Unique literature culture, producing novels, plays, and essays that focus on human life, philosophy, and nature rather than Pokémon battles.
Pristine lifestyle, with clean streets, fresh mountain air, and clear rivers feeding into its fertile lands.
Despite its beauty, Genesis has seen a steady decline in its younger population as families move to larger cities for opportunities. Those who remain live in harmony with the land, their traditions, and their guardian Pokémon.

🏯 Town History (Local Historical Building Plaque Style)
“Sōsei-ki Mura – The Village of Beginnings”
Centuries ago, a wandering samurai settled in this valley, accompanied by his loyal Pokémon, a Lopunny. Unlike many towns that grew around Gyms or battle culture, Sōsei-ki Mura was founded on discipline, artistry, and the balance of people and nature.
Over time, the samurai’s Lopunny and its descendants became the defenders of the town, earning the title “Ronin.” The Lopunny line rejected frivolity, donning garb of samurai warriors and guarding both people and wild Pokémon from harm.
The village’s name was eventually changed to Genesis Town, symbolizing rebirth, continuity, and the constant blossoming of life—just as its flowers bloom anew every season. Just watch out for Ronin, he will slice any Pokeballs aimed towards the local Pokemon in half if you try to catch them through battle. Though there is no Pokecenter, you can heal at the local shrines, the Hananokami teacher’s house known as the Butterfree Manor, or at the local Ryokan. Though you don’t have to pay at the shrines or at the Butterfree Manor, run by Momoka and Chōko, you will have to rent a room at the several Ryokans we have. Donations are welcome though. This is due to the fact that our town is not part of the Gym Challenge nor is it widely known. Hence why it is seen as a failing town. But we can’t give up! No matter the struggles, if we put our mind to it we will achieve!

🌱 Culture
Families in Genesis are known for flower farming, gardening, and candy-making, often blending petals (especially sakura) into sweets.
Spring time is known for Bamboo shoots is often gathered during this time, but cabbages and other spring time harvests are made into popular dishes like their ramen or roasted fish. The miso and soy contests are always the most popular during the sakura festivals to see who made the best during the winter. The festival for the creator’s birth takes place during this time, as well as Hanakotoba, Hanami festivals. These are the times for weaving fabrics, telling stories of the founder and his friends, sweets making, and starting the fields for the winter time. It is also the best time to prepare sake. During the festivals the Hananokami, Ainokami, and Kedamononokami dances are performed.
Summer time is known for the bamboo creations, shaved ice, and many summer festivals celebrating the creator of Genesis and when the town was formed which took place during mid summer. The man who went by Ryūjin, planted the first five trees to honor: Spring, summer, mid summer, autumn, and winter. Though he, himself, was a rather loud and straightforward man, his Lopunny was the one who took the role seriously. No one knows who Ryūjin was, but the colors of his hair and eyes were greatly remembered. Yellow hair with red tips, red eyes surrounded by yellow, with white pupils. The best foods served during this season is shrimp tempura, yakisoba, and ramen. Tanabata is. The traditional dances during these festivals are the Mizunokami, Tsukinokami, Kazenokami, and the Kaminarinokami
Midsummer also hosts the Obon festival, where the people honor and pay respect to their ancestors. Though many hope that Ryūjin himself will come back as a ghost and bless the town for another year. The plant in bloom during this season is the wisteria trees. The Martial arts tournament also is held here and the winner is honored at the traditional home of Ryūjin for a night. Traditional dances are the Mushinokami, Hebinokami, Utanokami, and the Kasuminokami
During fall the town is painted red with iroha-momiji and kaede trees, gold from the gingko trees. During this time the town often creates food made from harvested food, nuts, and mushrooms. The most popular food during this time is miso soup with sweet potatoes. The Iwanokami dance is performed during the harvest festival and the first light lantern festival.
Winter time is when things calm down, shrine visits, new years festivals. The first snow. The most well known festival is the fire festival, where the townsfolk gather to light a fire in honor of the creator and his mottos: “If you put in your all, you’ll stand your ground even in death” and “Nothing’s impossible if you put your mind to it.” These are least popular with young families who believe that the town will soon fade and there is no point in staying. During this time is also when the dojos bring in new students to teach both iaijutsu and martial arts (there are many different styles and forms to learn from). This is also the second most popular time for the ryokans and onsens as visitors often want the warmth and traditional quiet of Genesis. Especially after a good meal of hot sake, grilled fish, with a large bowl of rice.
Town festivals feature literary readings beneath cherry blossoms and the other trees, with children weaving flower crowns for visitors. Also mochi making is the highest regarded event during the winter festivals as well as sharing cups of tea with each other. It is also a great time to learn haiku, practice your kanji, look at the local pottery (which is popular to do during the winter), swordsmithing (the local swordsmiths all wear hyotokko masks since the first one), and perform in mock battles to not show off your Pokemon but your discipline and connection as partners. Prayers are done at the local temple and shrines. There are also dances done at each of the festivals, winters being the famous Hinokami Kagura as well as the Honōnokami Kagura.
Genesis folk take great pride in non-battle skills—mending, crafting, storytelling, and caretaking. Children are taught not only survival skills but also philosophy and compassion. The locals will always be seen in kimono, nagagi, haori, hakama, or any other traditional wear no matter what day it is. Try it out yourself and take a break from the world of Pokemon battles and find peace. Traditional crafting is also done all year around, so feel free to have your clothes dyed in the local traditions and dyes or get yourself your own haori. Traditional music is always being heard and with no technology it seems like you step into the past.
To learn a dance you must be ready to hone your body to that specific dance. Your Pokemon too can learn a dance, but to master it means you must not tear yourself between the dances. Learn under one master and one only, your Pokemon can also learn under a master as well.
The test of courage happens at the local Hakaba and ends at the gravesite of Ryūjin which has a flame that has never gone out.
Standing still and watching anyone of the Kagura Masters dancing even after the festival ends unlocks a hidden ability for the trainer, Selfless State and if with a Pokemon the Pokemon learns it as well. Granting them priority moves and increased evasion.

🐇 Guardian Pokémon
Cherubi: Seen as symbols of youth, innocence, and continuity of life. Genesis children often befriend Cherubi before any other Pokémon. One of the three guardians is a Cherrim known as Hitokami, one who descends from a line of Cherubi who learned from the first healer of the town. Hitokami loves sweets and placing cherry blossoms on people while they sleep, so be careful or you might get buried. As in she will bury you in flowers every few minutes. Hitokami in particular loves sakura mochi and is often offered them during one of the spring festivals. Vibrant and happy Hitokami is also one of the strongest Cherrim’s out there and often accompanied by a Butterfree. Hitokami is always recognized by her white haori.
Ronin the Lopunny: A scarred Lopunny, the scar is over his left eyes and a large one on his toso, who embodies the town’s values of discipline and defense. Legends say Ronin’s ancestor fought alongside the samurai founder. Ronin himself wears a black gi and tattsuke-hakama, including light brown tabi and traditional white zōri sandals with red straps. Over this he wears the founder’s traditional haori, white-to-yellow gradient and vivid red flame-like ridges at the end. Other leg wear includes a pair of red kyahan decorated with yellow flame motifs rising from the bottom up. Ronin is also seen with his children and mate, Himawari, walking underneath the trees. Himawari herself is present during mochi making. She is a strange white Lopunny with pink fluff and like Ronin wears a kimono.
Matsuri the Infernape: Also known as Matsuri-shin, this Infernape is the flashiest out of the guardians. Acting as the final guardian this Infernape often dresses as a Shinobi, wearing the typical forehead protector, though it is decorated in jewels, wearing some face paint and golden armbands. He loves the festivals, the louder the better. However when it comes to stealth and protecting the town he uses his supreme hearing, from the Matsuri line taught to the Infernape by the shinobi who was best friends with the creator, to locate anyone wishing to do the town, the people, and the Pokemon harm. He often wields interesting weapons, said to be a replica of the shinobi’s own weapons: Dual Cleavers connected by chain in an amber color. Other than that he wears a sleeveless button-up jacket with a stand-up collar, gold buttons, and a shirt pocket on the left breast. Underneath, he wears a white sleeveless collared undershirt. The uniform was secured with a white belt at the waist and included matching tattsuke-hakama pants tucked into burgundy cloth wrappings around his calves. On his feet, he wore white zōri sandals with white straps and dark turquoise tabi socks to match his uniform. Matsuri accessorized flamboyantly, wearing two thick, golden rings around his upper arms and a pair of fingerless blue gloves. These gloves were secured with two silver bands around the middle fingers and fastened at the wrists with two thinner golden rings on each side. Sometimes he even wears nail polish of lime green and maroon on his fingers and his toes.
Wild Pokémon: Fields and groves are home to Grass- and Bug-types (Budew, Combee, Petilil, Sewaddle), while nearby rivers house Water-types (Magikarp, Goldeen, Barboach). There are also Flying-Types (Starly, Drifloon (as long as they behave), and Wingulls) and a few Eevees, Turtwigs, Chimchars, and Piplups. No one knows why the guardians wear clothes or bow at the shrines or use weapons. Some assume it is to honor the masters of their ancestors others believe it is to be prepared for underhanded tactics.

🏡 Modern Day
Genesis today is a peaceful but somewhat forgotten town. Few trainers visit, and most maps don’t mark it clearly. Yet to those who know of it, Genesis is a place of:
Healing and inspiration – perfect for writers, artists, and travelers seeking quiet reflection.
Tradition and protection – upheld by Ronin and his children.
Childhood roots – treasured by children forced to leave, who long to return home.
Rare items and festival items, including cosmetics, clothes and weapons can be obtained here. Including customizable haori for the trainer and Pokemon. Sweets and festival foods give bonus stats as well as cooking can be obtained so you and your Pokemon friends can hold onto the memories of Genesis town. Though the mystery of who Ryūjin and his friends are has yet to be solved. Winning competitions can gain Technical Machines for Pokemon participants but also unlocks a unique duel system taught by the three guardians of fighting alongside your Pokemon. Though all the other cities will not allow this in city limits. An unknown feature of this town that most players won’t notice is that they do get EV’s from performing in the festivals and activities, since it is training in a unique way. Learning the dances, depending on which one can significantly raise a stat due to them being hidden sword forms with unique breathing. The items too also give a boost to the types they belong to. Same with the food. Please note that wisteria candy does not contain any wisteria as it is a highly toxic plant, it is only made to reflect the appearance of wisteria.
The historical center is manned by an old man with a very straightforward personality, but is rather joyful and laughs a lot. If challenged it is revealed that he is not only the mayor but the strongest trainer in the village. He was once on the road to becoming champion before Cynthia but lost to her and decided to leave his dreams to the next generation and returned home to Genesis. All that he has on his team is a single shiny Gallade. The old man has mastered Hinokami Kagura while his Gallade mastered Tsukinokami Kagura.
Each of the different masters of the dance styles can also be challenged in a Pokemon battle and will give different rewards. However they don’t battle in the normal way, a way to learn the Dual Battle Style, allowing for the trainer to fight alongside their Pokemon. Each having one very hard to beat Pokemon that uses the uniqueness of Genesis to their advantage since they are masters at what they do. Challenging the Masters at a low level is not recommended.
Pokemon catching is allowed but it is treated more like the safari zone but with different kinds of treats to befriend the Pokemon. When you enter the area there is a clip of a Team Galactic member being thrown out by Ronin who regards you before handing over a bag of the treats before walking away. Depending on how far you are in the main game and which gym leader you have just fought the season will be different in Genesis or how long your Ryokan stay is.
Party Pokemon are allowed to wander the village with the first Pokemon by your side. Pokeboxes are available at the Ryokans. Stores act as marts but more spread out and the food items and drink items are for both Pokemon and trainers.

Kagura Masters:
In order to challenge a Kagura Master one has to complete their Battle Quest (this has to be done each time you wish to battle them) before attempting battles. There are only a few trainers willing to challenge you but they, like you, are visitors in the town. All Special moves can be learned after the battle.
Ran: A twenty year old fisher and master of Mizunokami Kagura (God of Water Dance). In order to challenge the master one must first beat three fishermen in a fishing contest and find him at the soba shop (His favorite place to be in order to center himself) and eat a bowl of soba with him (this increases friendless with Pokemon that like earthy but slightly sweet flavors and evasion). Doing so will allow the player to fight against Ran and his Bibarel (level 65) which has also mastered Mizunokami Kagura which maxed out the speed, special attack, and special defense. The two both are rather quiet but the move Nagi paired with surf and the item Wide Lens disrupts battle rhythm.
Special Move: Nagi- The Pokemon does not move for a round increasing it’s defense, special defense, and evasion. Upon being broken by a move that gets through the Pokemon has a 5% chance of acting first the next round, but the damage dealt by a water type move is increased by .5x
Appearance: Ran is of average height with tan skin and teal eyes, he has black hair that is pulled up into a ponytail. He normally wears mijika, tatsuki, tabi, and when fishing a sashiko no donza. He often seems like his mind is always on the waters and just wants to have some peace instead of being challenged by the trainers.
Ruka: A 25 year old miko serving at the Joy Flame Shrine (Yorokobi no honō no jinja) who is a master of the Honōnokami Kagura. She is the main dancer at the Fire Lighting Festival during the winter. In order to access her battle one first must find her training in each of the groves and speak to her. Then make an offering at the shrine. Her Arcanine is level 68 and due to both being masters of Honōnokami Kagura (Dance of the Flame God) Arcanine has the special move Enko. Her Arcanine also has a high speed, attack, and defense. Her Arcanine also uses a Genesis unique Item: Flame Coat- Which boosts friendship with fire Pokemon and if attacked physically gives a chance to give burn. This allows Arcanine to endure through one hit moves.
Special Move: Enko- The Pokemon dashes forward raising its defense as it unleashes a series of physical moves. The range goes from two to five times increasing slightly in damage with each hit.
Appearance: Ruka normally wears typical miko garb: white kosode, hibaama, tabi, and sandals. She has long black hair with red tips that she normally keeps bound back and wears a chihaya while dancing including a mo. She also has hair accessories that change depending on the upcoming festival or her duties.
Kowa: 16 year old master of Kaminarinokami Kagura (Dance of the Thunder God) who always needs to be located before attempting to fight him. Even then get your running shoes on because Kowa is the quickest at running away. Once you catch him, you will get to fight him, but don’t let his cowardice deceive you. Kowa will do anything to survive. His Shinx is quite powerful for being unevolved. Standing at level 64 Shinx’s ability Intimidate Cuts down the Pokemon’s attack while the Lightning Coat item acts as Static paralyzing the Pokemon when hit with a physical move or he hits you. Kaminarinokami being mastered also has maxed out Speed, Evasion, and HP. The Shinx also has Bite and a high friendship that he keeps tanking hits especially if they are super effective.
Special Move: Inadama- The users attacks up to five times, the higher the speed the more damage the attack does.
Appearance: Kowa has white and pink hair, bushy eyebrows, and orange eyes. He is rather muscular, but his face can be considered rather handsome. He normally wears a black gi with a gradient haori going from peach to yellow with triangles on it symbolizing his mastery. He’s too scared to get rid of it.
Mugen: A thirty year old priest working at the Calm Stone Temple (Shizukana ishidzukuri no jiin) and master of Iwanokami Kagura (Dance of the Stone God). In order to challenge him, you do need to go through an endurance test along with your Pokemon. This includes climbing the stairs twelve times, standing on a log by a waterfall, and being able to carry a rock weighing about 20 lbs (yes the character does realize that this might be a bad idea). When completed Mugen will fight with his Bastiodon with the Sturdy Ability. Complete with Rock Incense Mugen’s Bastiodon is a master of Iwanokami Kagura which has maxed attack, defense, and HP.
Special move: Tenmen Kudaki- This attack goes last. The user uses its entire body to propel into the air before crashing down into the opponent taking damage on rebound. However this sets up another attack that moves first allowing the Pokemon to smash into the target for an extra .5x damage of the initial attack.
Appearance: Mugen is rather large, over six feet tall, with short black hair. He wears a temple uniform and has prayer beads hanging from his hands. His eyes are a warm brown and is often seen encouraging others to break through the limits they impose on themselves, but never breaks the body’s actual limits. He is also the most muscular in town and was known to have held the levi’s of a dam during a storm to keep Canalave city safe until the repairs could be done. This earned him massive scars on his back.
Hirokaze: A twenty five year old trainer Taiko player and master of the Kazenokami Kagura. He is a kind looking fellow who loves to hang out with the Utanokami Kagura master. In order to challenge him in a Pokemon Battle you do have to collect the charms that flew out of his hands. There are ten in total and easy to medium difficulty to find. Once returning them you are now in trouble with his Level 70 Jumpluff with the ability Chlorophyll, one of the moves is Sunny Day, and has a Rawst Berri. However as the Jumpluff is also a Kazenokami master the speed, strength, and special attack is fully maxed out.
Special Move: Seiran Fūju- The user swirls around for two rounds, upon being attacked by a physical move the attack instead is rebounded to the user. Special attacks have a 50% chance of hitting. The move also gives an increase to speed.
Appearance: Hirokaze is about 6’3, with white hair and what some would say a wild look in his eyes. This is the reason why he always smiles and keeps them soft so no one would be afraid of him. He general wears a wave patterned haori over top a plain indigo yukata. He’s often seen either helping out at the historical center or teaching the children.
Rasha: A forty year old archery teacher and master of Tsukinokami Kagura. In order to challenge him, one must be able to get thirty points in archery alongside their Pokemon. His Pokemon is an Umbreon with Hidden Focus and a Genesis only item the Moon Dial (which upon being broken or stolen increases the speed of the Pokemon). However Umbreon is a master of Hinokami Kagura allowing it the use of Gen'nichi Kō. This also means that HP, attack, and speed have been maxed out. However this particular Umbreon has high stats in everything else, just not maxed. Upon defeating Rasha the move Moonbow can be learned.
Appearance: Black hair and dressed like a swordsman wearing a purple gi and black hakama. His hair is pulled back and he has an eyepatch, both eyes are good but he trains like this. His eyes are silver and his skin is rather normal looking. He does have some scruff on his face.
Momoko: A twenty year old healer located at the Butterfree Manor and master of Hananokami Kagura (Flower God Dance). To be able to fight her, you either have to get your Pokemon healed at the Butterfree Manor three times in a row (which will cause her to think you are overworking your Pokemon which makes the battle twice as hard) or you participate in an Ikebana event. If the latter one fights against her Overcast for Cherrim, still a difficult fight since it is a level 66 Pokemon. The ability is Flower Gift and the item is a unique Genesis Item called Flower Veil, though that remains unactivated for this fight. The attack, special attack, and special defense is maxed out. Here the special move is not used in this fight as it is a casual fight.
If brought into the hard fight you are no longer able to use your main Pokemon as they are being forced to rest. Instead you have to choose from one of your Pokeboxed Pokemon (If any of your Pokemon were fainted before being put into the box those will also be under rest restriction). Her Cherrim is now in Sunshine form. Flower Veil is activated which lowers the opponents accuracy and the special move Ada no Shakuyaku is used. If the player loses they are also on bed rest due to the fact that if the Pokemon had to be healed three times in a row they were exhausted themselves.
Ada no Shakuyaku: A consecutive attack that is performed twice (it goes last when chosen the first time which attacks up to four times and first the next round attacking up to five times)
Appearance: Long black hair with pink tips, purple eyes, wears a black kosode and hakama with a white haori on it with a gradient of teal to pink and sakura pattern on it. She has fair skin and flower clips in her hair. She also has tabi and sandals.
Chōko: The sixteen year old Mushinokami Kagura (Insect God Dance) master. She has two ways of being fought. If challenged before Momoko you will have to complete her battle challenge to find berries and herbs to help her make medicine. To be specific, Antidotes. This unlocks her easy mode. Chōko is a poison expert and bug Pokemon user who not only has high special attack but speed, her single Kricketune with a Toxic Orb that doesn’t affect it. The master also doesn’t shout her moves and merely giggles performing a dance move. This does require knowledge on the Mushinokami style. Her Kricketune does not use its Genesis move or its Butterfly Robe during this fight. Instead it uses the Acid Orb and its ability Technician.
To activate hard mode all you have to do is defeat Momoko before you fight Chōko. Doing this will set Chōko off. During her conversation she will be talking about Momoko and ask if you already fought her sister. If you say yes she will doubt you and Momoko will approach afterwards confirming this. The battle begins with Chōko giving a deadly smile and saying “Ara, ara!”
During this fight Chōko will use the Butterfly Robe which boosts any bug type or psychic type moves. Also upon absorbing damage there is a 5% chance of being poisoned. Also the Genesis Mushinokami move Sessaku no Sasoi is used. Also her tells are gone and she will announce her moves normally. But with a lot of taunts included.
Special Move: Sessaku no Sasoi- (Poison/bug Type) The user leaps and bounces from a vertical surface with a strong thrust at great speeds. It will jab the opponent up to five times, on a critical hit the opponent is badly poisoned. On a normal hit there is a 5% chance of the poison effect.
Appearance: Chōko has short black hair with purple tips, purple eyes, and fair skin. She wears similar clothes to Momoko, except her haori has a teal to purple gradient and a pattern like a monarch’s wing on the sleeves.
Seishin: The 21 year old Hebinokami Kagura (Dance of the Serpent God) Master, and caretaker of the town gardens. Often seen with his white Arbok and a small plush snake wrapped around his neck. Seishin is often not the type to want to battle and his quests rotate between three different fetch quests. Either he wants food, drinks, or for a message to be delivered to the Ainokami Kagura master. Don’t open the letter if you want to remain awake for the season and the quest has to be done again. Once delivered or completed Seishin will agree to battle you with a yawn.
His Arbok is level 60 with the Shed Skin ability and the held item of Snake Doll. Which boosts defense and if stolen or destroyed boosts speed and attack. Due to the Arbok being a Hebinokami Kagura master it has maxed Attack, Speed, and Special Attack. En'en Chōda is the Hebinokami Kagura move that it knows, but other than that Arbok has the standard move set.
Special Move: En'en Chōda- The user winds forward before making attacks against all opponents with a whipping strike using its fangs or claws. There is also a 1% chance of the Poison effect. If the user is a snake Pokemon there is a 5% chance of wrapping around one of the opponents.
Appearance: Seishin has short white hair and gold eyes, seen almost always tired, when he yawns small little fangs are noticeable. He wears the black uniform like most of the Kagura masters, and has a striped haori over it. His hair is often messy and very soft. He also is normally found in the sakura piles since Hitokami always catches him sleeping.
Aisei: The twenty year old master of Ainokami Kagura (Dance of the Love God) and best friend of Hitokami. Aisei is the leader of the local theater. So if you want to battle her you will need to perform in the theater with your Pokemon, contest style or showing off what you learned. Aisei is a rather generous young lady so her critiques come off as helpful comments. Once you manage to complete the performance will she fight. Her Pokemon in the Ainokami Chimecho with the ability Levitate and the special move, Ōnō Meguru Koi, and its Attack, HP, and Speed are maxed. The held item, Heart Clover Charm, increases Psychic type moves as well as the chance of secondary effects being activated with moves.
Special Move: Ōnō Meguru Koi- The user swings around in a singular slashing motion but the opponent is cut from multiple angles. There is also a 6% chance that psychic damage will be dealt from the feedback in three moves to the opponent.
Appearance: Aisei is voluptuous but modest, also wearing the traditional miko garb. She does have a white haori over everything because of her close relationship with Hitokami. Aisei has red hair that fades to pink and bright blue eyes. She has a beauty mark near the corner of each of her eyes shaped like hearts.
Miuta: The nineteen year old Utanokami (Dance of the Song God) Kagura Master. Miuta is often hiding, and the quest is to help him learn how to accept his role and to speak again. This quest also goes into the Matsuri storyline where Matsuri helps Miuta find his courage and his song once again. Once done Miuta would accept to fight the player. He has a Mawile with the ability Hyper Cutter, the Genesis held Item Tuning Fork which allows for the user to increase the special attack moves dealing in sound. Being a Utanokami master the Mawile also knows the special move Meigen Sōsō and has Attack, Speed, and Evasion maxed out.
Special Move: Meigen Sōsō- After taking two round to rest at a stand still, with evasion raises, the next turn the evasion returns to normal but speed and attack increases after the Pokemon realizes attack patterns and moves forward at surprising speed before swinging itself around the opponent landing consecutive hits (Two to five). This also has a 2% chance to confuse the opponent.
Appearance: Miuta is tall and lanky, he has black hair and fuchsia eyes with his hair covering them. He is often seen wearing a dark grey yukata in the shadows or running away from the festivals he’s supposed to dance at before being dragged back by Matsuri. Once he regains his confidence he wears the clothes like everyone else and even dawns a headband similar to Matsuri’s. Matsuri even paints his nails in the same colors as his and adds the rings trying to give Miuta as much sound as possible. Miuta also starts wearing earcuffs.
Yuikiri: The thirteen year old Kasuminokami (Dance of the Mist God) Kagura master. Yuikiri is often found on the hillside either training or sleeping. He is the third priest of the Eternal Mist Temple (Eien kiri no jiin). To fight him you must beat him in either a martial competition (your choice) or a game of hide and go seek. Either way he isn’t going to go easy on you. His Pokemon is Frolass with the ability Snow Cloak. The held item is the Soul Lantern which changes any battlefield effect (like Sandstorm) into hail or snow if no such effect appears; a thick mist instead will drift from the lantern causing a debuff in accuracy. Since the Frosslass is a Kasuminokami master it has a special move that can be learned, Iryūgiri. The special attack, evasion, and speed are all maxed out.
Special Move: Iryūgiri- The user darts forward in a low stance and slashes at the opponent. There is a 5% chance of a status effect happening depending on the type of Pokemon (Either freeze or confusion with Frosslass). When used with Kasuminokami the move changes from Attack to Special Attack for damage type.
Appearance: Yukiri is short, barely 5’3” since he is still young in his role. He has long black hair that fades into a light indigo gray and grey eyes. He wears a similar black outfit as the others, but an indigo haori with a white gradient that looks like mist.
Takeko: The twenty five year old Ryokan owner (well one of the several Ryokan in the village) and Kedamononokami (Dance of the Beast God) Kagura Master. Takeko is always seen wearing flowing robes that gives her a rather ethereal appearance. To battle her, one must stay three nights at her Ryokan and participate in one of the festivals. Once completed she will challenge you with her own Kedmononokami master Altaria. This Altaria has Attack, Defense, and Evasion maxed out. This Altaria’s special item is called the Beast Mask which gives a chance of becoming enraged, increasing attack but lowering defense. It has the Natural Cure ability and the Special Move Bakuretsu Mōshin to Kirisaki.
Special Move: Bakuretsu Mōshin to Kirisaki- The user charges towards the opponent ignoring all oncoming attacks before slicing at the opponent. The attack damage is increased under the enraged effect by x2.
Appearance: Takeko has long black hair that flows around her and flowing white robes with white sleeves and bamboo print on them. She has sharp green eyes that seem to pierce through someone but is rather kind and gentle. She has porcelain skin and often is the one holding her Altaria back showing that there is strength in her delicate form. Instead of a haori she has a hagoromo.
Oyaji: Over eighty years old, and the master of Hinokami Kagura (God of Sun Dance). When the trainer wants to battle him they must first go through each of the dance masters and defeat them. Oyaji himself has a level 70 shiny Gallade that has maxed out Speed, Attack, and HP and carries a Quick Claw. The Gallade’s signature move is one that can be learned by mastering Tsukinokami Kagura known as Moonbow. The two use Dual Fighting which is why the player must learn it before challenging Oyaji. Each time Moonbow is used there is a 15% chance of either Speed or Attack gaining a temporary increase.
Move learned from mastering Hinokami Kagura: Gen'nichi Kō- The user attacks but it is a two round move, the first attack is a misdirect, increasing evasion and leaving a substitute behind. When the substitute, or afterimage is attacked the full swing comes down as the evasion decreases but the attack increases.
Appearance: With a white mane of hair and eyes that seem to barely function Oyaji still stands at an impressive 6’ when he isn’t pretending to be old and feeble. His eyes are a pale green and his skin is still good and well taken care of. Like everyone else he wears a similar kosode and hakama, but over it he wears a red haori, keeping it simple.
However if you beat the game before Oyaji or even visiting Genesis the town actually ends up failing because Oyaji passed away and everyone lost home. If you get through all the Kagura Masters and Oyaji before the Elite Four and Cynthia, Oyaji passes away in your presence and the future is unknown. If you learned and mastered Hinokami Kagura before the Elite Four they ask you to come back to the village afterwards and take Oyaji’s place. Oyaji laughs at that and tells you that the village will live on but you should live your own life first before following in the footsteps of an old man. This also unlocks Ryūjin’s house for you to live in permanently and you find out that Ryūjin might not have originated from the world but came here by accident. He saved the original townsfolk from angry ghost Pokemon and with his friends taught them the dances as fighting styles to ward off the Pokemon until a time came where Pokemon and humans could be friends, they have unique Kagura moves depending on the friendship level with the Guardian, just like the three guardian Pokemon. His surname Rengoku, he and his friends taught the townsfolk the Kagura.
Afterwards you can choose one of the children of the Guardians to have as your companion. Each one has a unique technique related to their bloodline.
When the village becomes a ghost town you are still able to visit, but all that is left are the trees, the history, and the eternal flame of the gravestone granting you a choice. Continue on as a trainer who never saw what happened or learn and carry the flame, learning from history instead of teachers. Gather the Kagura once again, find the guardians, and restore the town.
Second route means that you can complete all the tasks but if you learn a different style other than Hinokami Kagura you can accept the mission of finding the son of Oyaji and convince him to come back or try to convince Cynthia since both had learned the style.
Third Route: YOU ARE NOW OYAJI’S ADOPTED CHILD AND HEIR TO THE HINOKAMI KAGURA STYLE! You are required to now perform during the New Years Festival.
Welcome to Genesis. Enjoy!

Mini games
Anytime (Can be done after a rest at a Ryokan):
Guardian Hide and Seek: This is a mini game that is done once meeting all three Guardians. Once per day they are gathered at the festival stage and when talking to one of them all three run off. Depending on how fast you find each one reflects how much their friendship grows. Matsuri likes to either be found quickly or first, Hitokami loves to be found last or has time taken, Ronin prefers not to take all day). Once all three are found you will receive a random healing item.
Candy Making: With a Pokemon and a Kagura master of your choice you can make candy. The flavor and shape of the candy will be determined which season or festival is approaching and what type the Pokemon is and the Kagura style of the master. It is a memory and rhythm game. In order to make the candy you have to memorize the ingredients being called out by the master and once added in, you and your Pokemon has to mix them by pressing the D-Pad in the direction that it needs to stirred in and where to stop. This can be done at the oldest candy shop, Mitsu to Ai (Honey and Love). The effects of the candy is determined by the type and the master and friendship is raised with the participants
Tea Ceremony (Chanoyu): Perform in a Tea Ceremony after speaking to the teacher at the Tea Hall with a Pokemon friend, this requires game is all about pacing. Though mistakes and imperfections are appreciated it is a memorization game where a Kagura Master prepares the tea in order and you copy it. The more steps there are depends on what kind of ceremony you are doing. Casual, regular, or Chaji. There will be moments where you put your heart and mind into when prompted with “A thought pops into your mind” “Who are you doing this for?” “I hope… enjoys this.” Followed by the Pokemon, the Kagura master, and one person from the game (Rowan, mom, or someone from your contact list on your PokeGear). There are also the choices of boredom, discipline, and friendship. Those increase your relationship with the guardians (Boredom is Matsuri, Discipline is Ronin, and Friendship is Hitokami). These also affect your Dual Style (Boredom is Attack, Discipline is defense, and Friendship is Support). Upon completion you gain friendship points with the participants and a Pokemon Robe held item piece (you need three in order to gain the full item) depending on who the Kagura Master was.
Race Run: You can challenge a few of the villagers in a race, though Kawa is the ultimate challenge. This is the culmination of your physical training in the Kagura Style and playing Hide and Seek. All you have to do is move forward and sprint by pressing B. However you have a stamina gauge so keep an eye on it. Once you beat each of the challenges you can unlock racing Kowa. Beating him in a race will unlock a repeat battle against his Shinx as well as obtaining the Thunder Coat item and Kowa’s Haori cosmetic item.
Fishing: Unlike normal fishing this is a timing and catch game. When a Pokemon gets pulled up you have to catch the fish in a basket. Then tossing the rod back into the water. Since the village doesn’t waste food a lot of the fishermen will sell the catches immediately. This is normally done in the morning hours. This increases the Pokemon’s Attack and Accuracy. This is part of the battle quest to unlock Ran’s battle. This is mainly just a fun minigame with the reward being money.
Once a Season Night Challenges (Hitokami, Matsuri, or Ronin will wake you for these at the Ryokan you are staying at):
Flower Find: Hitokami’s favorite game, she covers the screen with flowers and you have to find her. This relies on sound recognition to recognize the Cherrim’s Pokemon cry through the mass of flowers. Other Pokemon have joined in as well. The longer you take the more Pokemon will join, but Hitokami encourages it. Once completed, friendship with Hitokami rises as well as friendship with everyone who joins in. Once finding her Hitokami will grant an item piece. Collecting all four (one per season) will grant Hitokami’s Clover for a Pokemon Held Item and The Clover Choker for a Cosmetic Item. The Clover grants the move Love Blossom, Hitokami’s Signature Move.
🌸 Love Blossom (Hitokami’s signature)
Type: Fairy
Category: Special
Power/Acc/PP: 75 / 100 / 10
Priority: +1 if used immediately after your Pokémon or trainer used a Support/Guard action (Dual Style synergy).
Effect: Heals allied party by ¼ Max HP split (in Doubles, ⅛ each) and cleanses one random status on the user. If Sunny or Flower Gift is active, add –1 Atk to the target on hit.
Out of battle (Genesis only): +small friendship to party.
Taiko Beat: A rhythm game with Matsuri who bounces from drum to drum as you follow the beat. However he wants you to make it flashy and will sometimes throws firecrackers towards the drums which you have to hit away. The longer the winning streak the more difficult it gets. Making it through all levels of the songs will give a large boost to your recognition in Genesis, friendship with Matsuri. Completing it each season will grant you the item Matsuri’s Headband for both a Cosmetic Item and a Pokemon Item which allows the wearer to gain the move Firework Festival. This is Matsuri’s signature move.
🥷 Firework Festival (Matsuri’s signature, from Headband)
(keeping your design; minor clarity tweaks)
Type: Fire • Category: Special (or auto-scales with higher Atk/SpA if wearing Headband)
Power/Acc/PP: 90 / 100 / 10 • Target: all foes
Effect: 10% Burn or Confuse (random). Festival Boost: +10% power & +1 Acc stage if in Genesis festival or holding any festival item. Dual Style: Flourish adds +1 crit stage.
Note: Friendly fire off.
Sword Stance: Ronin’s minigame where all you have to do is guess which stance Ronin is going to do and just select the correct option to counter it and beat him. Best two out of three, right? Nope. Ronin himself does not give any obvious tells on the screen except for how his feet move. That is correct the entire game means you have to have the discipline to not worry about the timer to select your option but to wait for the slight foot movement and select the correct option (he gives you five seconds near the end to choose) and sometimes the best option is not to act. Winning this mini game boosts your own Dual Style style and earns a piece of Ronin’s haori. Collect all four and you get the cosmetic item and the held item. This gives your Pokemon access to Ronin’s signature move: Purgatory (It’s the one you see in the cut scene with the Galactic Grunts). A single charge move and slash. Which leaves a crater in the ground. Where did a Lopunny even learn this?
🗡️ Purgatory (Ronin’s signature)
Type: Fighting (fiery aesthetic, but keeps Ronin’s martial flavor)
Category: Physical
