Late in the night on Halloween in the year 1981, an alarm rang in the Ministry of Magic's Auror Department, showing activity at a small wizarding village called Godric's Hollow. This alarm was not the same as the normal alarms, those were going off all the time, due to Death Eater raids going on constantly. No, this alarm was keyed for when a specific individual was sighted, an individual so feared none dared to speak his name. An individual who was synonymous with death.

Tom Marvolo Riddle, known to everyone under the pseudonym Lord Voldemort, was sighted in Godric's Hollow.

Aurors still in the department scrambled. Sightings of Voldemort came few and far between, the last sighting of him was months ago, making this something they could not afford to pass up. However, even as the first teams were ready to deploy and at the Apparition point, the alarm stopped.

Lord Voldemort was no longer at Godric's Hollow. The aurors looked at each other grimly, wondering what they would find upon arrival at the village, before turning on the spot and vanishing.

A crowd was gathered near a cottage which looked pristine on one side but on the other, was destroyed, their wands lit and pointed skyward in mourning. The cottage belonged to one of the most likeable couples in the Wizarding world, the Potters. They were rich but generous with their wealth, often donating to the charities around the town. They had a young son, Harry, who was adored by many around the town. And they were apparently dead, killed by Lord Voldemort himself.

The Aurors approached the crowd slowly, the crowd parting for them like a sea. The Aurors slowly made their way across the broken gate, towards the front door, which was blasted off its hinges. The sight that greeted them was horrible, a perfectly furnished living room, with a body in the middle, eyes and mouth open in fear. He had messy jet black hair and glasses. James Potter was dead. A cursory glace showed he had no wand, a father sacrificing himself in the hopes of buying time for his beloved wife and child.

On the second floor, things were worse. A beautiful woman with auburn hair and emerald green eyes was lying on the floor in the nursery. However, to everyone's shock, there was another body there.

Lord Voldemort, darkest wizard in a century, was dead.

And to everyone's shock, the supposedly dead Potter baby, with a lightning shaped scar on his forehead, began to cry.

As the news that a baby defeated Lord Voldemort broke, countless families petitioned the Ministry for guardianship of the boy. In fact, one Albus Dumbledore requested that the boy be sent to the house of his relatives, the Dursleys. However, this was shot down due to the existence of the Potter Will, which specifically dictated that under no circumstances was he to go to them. In fact, it stated that if Sirius Black, his godfather, was unable to fulfil his duties, then he was to go to Remus Lupin, or if he also was not eligible, a Light or Neutral family with sufficient resources was to be given the responsibility. Since Sirius Black was in Azkaban and Remus Lupin was deemed unfit to take care of Harry due to financial instability and his furry little problem, it was decided that Harry would go to a Light or Neutral family chosen by Remus Lupin. Without much hesitation, he selected the Longbottoms, a longstanding ally of the Potter's.

However, disaster struck a few days before the transfer of guardianship was supposed to occur. Frank and Allice Longbottom were tortured to insanity by Death Eaters, who thought Harry Potter was already there. With that choice not available, Remus settled on the Davis family, a Neutral family, due to a multitude of factors. First, they had a daughter only a day younger than Harry himself. Secondly, Lily Potter and Daniella Davis were good friends back in their Hogwarts days. The most important factor, however, was that the Davis family was almost identical to the Potter family in their standing in the wizarding world, which would make it much easier for Harry to be brought up in a similar style to James. It would also allow Harry to be brought up in a way befitting the Heir to the Most Ancient and Noble House of Potter. Critically, Samuel and Daniella Davis adored Harry, and Remus knew that that was what James wanted above all: a loving family for his only son.
