Summary
The trees part in a small clearing and in the middle is the source of the heartbreaking sound. A heaping mountain of a wolf, almost camouflaged in the snow because of his coloring, lays in a pile, already covered in a thin layer of snow. His legs are hulking chunks of muscle and Felix suspects if he could stand the wolf would be able to almost look him in the eyes. But he can't. Because his back leg is torn to shreds. Mangled and bloody. It looks like a bear trap snapped shut on his leg only to be ripped off without opening the jaws of the mechanism.
Felix raises his hands slightly as he inches towards the wolf. “Please, I can help you.” He says as gently as he can over the wind. “I won’t hurt you, I promise.”
The wolf looks directly at him with a wary gaze, before gently nudging Felix’s knee with the tip of his nose in what Felix hopes is acceptance.-or-
The winter storm is coming. A storm that will keep Felix, the outcast mage of the town, trapped in his home for the entire season. He’s prepared for a normal, lonely winter like all the others, when an injured wolf winds up at his door.
