The kiss

Summary:

He took a deep breath, hoping to capture his partner's scent as much as possible. He loved that smell so much, perhaps intoxicated by the feeling of warmth and being carried, perhaps because the silence of the night invited a gentle confession, but without thinking, he blurted out what his heart yearned for.

—I wanted you to kiss me— the blond said barely in a whisper.

Notes:

Hi, here's another fic in English. Sorry if you see any mistakes or anything; English isn't my native language. I hope you enjoy it :D

Work Text:

It had been a long time since they started living together, a difficult process of adaptation where at first they had the occasional argument and in the end they ended up in a kind of rivalry.

I couldn't say at what point the young blond boy with odd eyes began to feel attracted to that Thiren, who looked both intimidating and fluffy.

It was after a night of suffering horrible nightmares and hiding in the closet, where he waited for the sobbing and shaking to stop before going back to bed again, that he heard footsteps approaching, someone sitting down and leaning against the closed closet door.

At that moment, he held his breath out of inertia. The fear of being discovered and not knowing the intentions of the person on the other side of the door made him avoid making the slightest movement, cowering in that small space. Until a familiar, reassuring voice spoke to him from outside.

— I don't know why you're in there, but I could hear your sobs a little. I won't open the door, there's a reason you keep it closed, but I'll stay here until you decide to come out—said the wolf a little awkwardly, trying to sound calm.

An unusually calm tone of voice, he felt his company on the other side, but he didn't invade his space or pressure him in any way, that act not only surprised the blond, but also comforted him.

He hesitate a moment before opening the closet door and tentatively crawling out to sit next to the young wolf.

—What are you supposed to be doing here? Jack's going to wake us up early tomorrow so we can keep training— Hugo asked, trying to sound reproachful.

—As you said, I'm not the only one who will get up early tomorrow, and I'm not the one who got up in the middle of the night to go to a closet—Lycaon replied, turning his head to look at the blond who had just sat down next to him.

—I was just cold in my bed and the streetlight bothered me— the young man lied, aware that no one would believe that lie.

He could see in his peripheral vision how the wolf picked up something that was next to him and threw it at him.

He quickly grabbed the object cursing at having let his guard down only to discover it was a blanket, Lycaon's blanket.

—If you were cold you could have asked for it, and if the light bothers you another night and you're still cold you can come to my bed—said the Thiren with the tips of his ears red and in a brusque tone to hide his embarrassment.

He stared at the blanket, wondering how the lie had followed him. The wolf was such a bad liar that he noticed it immediately. He still held the soft blanket in his hands, which gave off Lycaon's sweet scent. He remained silent, noticing the tips of his ears turning red.

That's how they slowly began to sleep together, until today. Sighing, he wondered if that alone was enough to make her heart flutter, or maybe it was simply because he was Lycaon.

That Lycaon, kind, a bit rough, struggling to express certain things, proud, and a poor actor. And this led him to his next thought.

From then on, he watched him—his expressions, body language, and reactions—comparing them with others' and her own. He came to the conclusion that he was at least a little interested.

By now, sleeping cuddled with Lycaon or his tail was a daily occurrence. It would also help with drying and brushing his fur. It wasn't unusual for Thiren to take care of him whenever he was sick; after all, it had been just the two of them for a while now. Not to mention that it had become a habit to heal each other's wounds whenever they got hurt.

He couldn't define their current relationship. Friends? Companions? Perhaps something more complicated than those two? Hugo was determined to find out. What better way than with a kiss? But the young man with unequal eyes wasn't willing to make the first move, nor to ask for it. His pride and fear alike prevented him from saying so directly.

This is how he hatched a plan, it wasn't perfect and the more he thought about it the dumber it became, but he was determined to do it.

So, after a successful infiltration and subsequent robbery, which, while not perfect, ended well, they kept the loot and were only a few scratches. When he knew they were safe, he set it in motion.

By feigning a slight stumble and using his acting skills, he was able to achieve a slight tremor in his voice.

—Wait a moment, I need to rest—said Hugo, leaning against a wall.

Lycaon moved his ears and turned to his companion, he observed him for a second, until a moment ago he was fine but the small stumble he heard before worried him enough to approach him and check his condition.

—Are you feeling dizzy or something?— the thiren said with noticeable concern in his voice.

A pang of guilt shot through the blond. Was it really worth making him worry about a kiss? At this point, saying what he wants would sound ridiculous, but he tried to soften the urgency a little.

—Just a little, maybe if you gave me a chocolate coin I would feel better—said the young man with heterochronomy eyes.

Lycaon quickly searched his companion's jacket pockets; he knew he always kept them there. Once he found them, he took one out and opened it.

—Can you hold it?— the older one asked with slight urgency.

It was time to make his move, even if it was crazy he had to try.

He shook her head slightly and speaking in a low, embarrassed voice he was finally able to say

—C-could you give it to me?—he cursed himself for not adding that he should do it with his mouth.

—Open your mouth,— Lycaon replied with an embarrassed expression as he gently brought the chocolate to Hugo's mouth.

He took a millisecond to analyze the scene, even if he chickened out at the last second, he always enjoyed seeing the wolf wagging its tail in embarrassment and seeing the tips of its red ears.

Finally he opened his mouth and let the Thiren put the chocolate inside, the taste of that candy describes how he felt, bitter with a slight sweetness.

Even if he hadn't asked, Lycaon would carry him for the rest of the journey. He supposed he must still have that worry on his mind. Although he felt guilty, he decided to take advantage of this closeness for as long as the moment lasted.

Lycaon's ears twitched, signaling that he heard what his companion had said. It took him a while to process it, and he unintentionally stopped.

—Hey! Why are you stopping?—the blond complained, embarrassment still in his voice.

—What you said... Is it true?—the wolf replied, ignoring his partner's recent complaint.

Although the question would have made him feel more confident, it would do no good to hide his nerves and insecurity from the person he's carrying on his back.

Hugo must have noticed, the embarrassment in his voice had almost disappeared, his grip became firmer, as if he were trying to hug him, and he whispered sweetly into the Thiren's soft ears.

—I said I wanted you to kiss me—

—B-but what if I hurt you with my fangs?—Lycaon said with a tone of despair and sadness in his voice.

—Lycaon, put me down— Hugo replied calmly but without hesitation in his voice.

So he did, slowly he left the shorter one on the ground, the wolf still didn't dare to turn around, he knew that Hugo wouldn't judge him or be afraid of him but still he couldn't help but feel insecure.

He noticed Hugo's hand grip hers and gently turned him around so they could talk while looking into each other's eyes.

The smallest one approached him and gently ran his other hand over his snout, furrowing the corners of his mouth with his fingers.

—You're worried about hurting me with your fangs, but I'm more than happy to accept that risk if it means you reciprocate this strange feeling that runs through my chest and that longs for a kiss from you—Hugo stated as he released his grip on his hand to hold tightly to his opponent's shirt.

Without giving him time to respond, he firmly pulled down the wolf's shirt, causing him to lean in and then bring their lips together.

It was awkward, awkward, abrupt, intense, and inexperienced. Neither of them closed their eyes, as they'd seen so many times in movies; instead, they stared at each other. Their gaze and their attempted kiss conveyed everything they couldn't say. But despite all that, that kiss belonged to both of them, which is why it was special.

Neither of them knew how they were supposed to do it, so when they separated with a trail of saliva between them and out of breath, both embarrassed, it took a few moments before they decided to talk.

—I didn't know your concept of kissing was so intense—said the shorter of the two, still catching his breath.

—You were the one who started sticking your tongue in!— the taller one accused, his tail frantically wagging behind him and his ears flushed.

—You don't seem to mind it— Hugo purred, looking at him with amusement.

—That's because it's you... And you said it was a risk you were willing to
take! — Lycaon snapped, crossing his arms and turning away to avoid her seeing his embarrassed expression.

Between laughter and jokes to hide their embarrassment they returned home, the plan did not go as expected, but it ended up having a better result, now they felt closer to each other.
