Work Text:
In hidden places, dark and full of fear,
Amid the din of tortured, screaming souls,
A pair of hearts are dealt, and drawing near,
Each finds its other half of greater whole.
Alike, yet different, they learn the dance,
Negotiating feathers, antlers, pains.
And with each step, each spin, each fleeting glance,
The blood pounds quicker through their needless veins.
Head bending low, the stag abandons pride—
Devoted, he holds out his hand and heart.
The stork accepts, and as their fates are tied,
Lips meet, and endless death births a new start.
From hell’s inferno blooms a fragile spark;
In hidden places, love grows in the dark.
