Work Text:

The ride home was awkward.

Usually, Chuck had his arm slung over the center console, resting on his boyfriend's thigh as they chatted about their respective days at work. But now, Taylor was pressed far into the car door, arms crossed over his chest with an unhappy scowl on his face.

The blonde glanced over, half admiring the other, but swallowing nervously. Someone has to break the silence.

“...I-”

“One thousand, twenty-six wings.”

Well, that works.

“Look-”

“I get off work, early, and decide ‘why not go say hi to my wonderful boyfriend?’. And you make me wait for hours to serve me one thousand and twenty-six wings.”

“In my defense-”

“You have no defense!”

That shut him up. The blonde kept his eyes on the road, hands loose on the steering wheel, and truthfully, trying his absolute hardest not to laugh.

It's not funny. It's not funny. It's not funny. Chuck, it's not funny.

It was pretty funny.

A low chuckle escaped his lips, and he almost regretted it with the way Taylor's head snapped towards him.

“Are you laughing?!”

“No! I'm just…”

“It's not funny, Chuck.”

“It’s not! It’s just-”

“-Are you actually mad?”

That one made Taylor pause. Of course he was mad. He didn’t want 1,026 raw wings. Who the hell would?

But, at the same time, the image of Chuck spending countless hours at the station, hardly cooking 1,026 wings and barely covering them with sauce, neatly stacking them on the plate so they balanced just right and wouldn’t tumble over the moment he picked them up, flashed through his head.

All for him. Just to (hopefully) make him laugh. And here he was, sulking about it and avoiding his boyfriend's touch, because…

Why was he mad? Taylor couldn’t exactly recall. The entire situation was so unbelievable that a small chuckle left him.

That small chuckle made Chuck's eyes light up, and in that moment, Taylor realized that it wasn’t even worth being mad at anymore.

But, of course he couldn’t just say that.

“Yes. I’m furious.”

But the way the corner of his lip curved upward told Chuck a completely different story, and when the blonde leaned over to place his hand on Taylor's thigh, the other didn’t object.
