Chapter Text

Renee smiled as she held her daughter, even though she was exhausted. Talia Summer Stilinski had a twin brother, but he was born eighteen days earlier, due to complications. The doctors had recommended that she carry Talia for a little bit longer, and she agreed because she couldn't bear the thought of both of her children being stuck in those tiny incubators.

Everyone had already agreed to call the little girl Summer, so she wouldn't get confused with Renee's best friend, Talia Hale.

Summer opened her eyes and stared up at Renee for a moment, then started crying.

Merrick, cradled in John's arms, began wailing a moment later.

As soon as her brother started, Summer stopped crying and started looking around.

"She's going to be such a troublemaker." John complained light-heartedly.

"Of course she is." Renee smiled. Talia was going to be proud.

Renee felt guilty sometimes that she still hadn't told John everything about herself, but she kept rationalizing it as her way of making sure he stayed safe. His heart was bigger than his badge, and she didn't want to break either of those things by exposing him to the darkness in her life. Was it any wonder, then, that she had named one child after the sunniest season of the year, and the other after the Greek god of the sun? She didn't have a problem with every creature that chose to let the moon guide them - she had known the Hales since before she could walk - but she wanted her family kept safe. If that meant lying to them, she would.

"You look like you're ready to pass out." John commented. "Give me a minute to put our son down, and then I can take our daughter from you." He smiled.

"They have names, John." Renee laughed. "You're so cute." Her eyes started to drift shut on their own. "When Merrick gets here, can you tell him I need to talk to him?"

"After you've gotten some rest." John picked Summer up and put her in the crib with Merrick, then sat back down to watch them. "You know, we can't keep calling our kid Merrick all the time. Everyone will get confused. But Helios?"

Renee's words came out garbled because she was already half-asleep. "It'll be fine. He's leaving eventually, anyway."

"Leaving to go where?" John looked confused, but Renee was already unconscious.
