Chapter Text

Sophia walked into the lounge room and stopped. Megan was curled up in the fetal position, sleeping, with her head on Dani’s chest. Dani was gazing fondly down at the girl with soft eyes.

Quietly, Sophia took her phone out of her pocket and snapped a picture of the scene in front of her. This would make good blackmail material later. Just in case.
She slowly crept backwards, biting her lip. She winced as the floorboard creaked loudly.

Dani whipped her head up and met Sophia’s eyes with a piercing glare.
‘Sorry’ she mouthed.
Daniela aggressively mouthed a string of words back at her that Sophia could not make out in the slightest. She stared back in confusion.
Dani rolled her eyes and pulled out her phone.

Latina mami 💃: This is the most sleep Megan has had in DAYS if u wake her I will kill u
Mother Sophia: Wouldn’t dream of disturbing you two lovebirds 😏
Latina mami 💃: HEY

Sophia chuckled to herself and walked back upstairs.

It all started a few weeks prior, though really there had been signs before that.

Megan was the anxious type, the one who would tamp down her stress only for it to all come out in a big burst of emotion several weeks later. This was nothing new, they’d all learnt how to help her in their individual ways, over the course of Dream Academy and their first year as Katseye, and they’d all experienced stress of their own.

But as they’d gone on, while the rest of them had settled into a rhythm now that they’d made it into the group, (as much as they feasibly could), it was as though Megan had sped up. They’d seen her at Dream Academy, determined to prove she wasn’t ‘boring’, in her words ‘fighting for her life’ every time she performed, terrified she’d lose this chance.

Now it was as though she had to be busy at all times. Sophia would hear her late at night practising to no end. She’d stay back late after rehearsal, and seemed to be constantly harassing the staff for feedback. She would spend her weekends and Friday nights at home or in the studio. Even when she was sick, she refused to rest, wearing a mask to protect the others but never stopping to protect herself.

She seemed scared to slow down.

Upstairs, Sophia was restless. She reread the same line of an email 5 times, unable to process what it said. Sighing, she shut the laptop and flopped down on her bed with her phone.

She knew it was a good thing that Megan was finally getting some rest, but that didn’t mean all was well. Megan needed a proper break.

“What’s got you in a mood?” said Lara, as she opened the door.
“Megan,” responded Sophia, rolling over.
“Mm yeah that’d do it. Girl is not okay,”

“I feel like I have to intervene or something, as the leader. She can’t keep going forever like this,” Sophia said.
“We should just drag her out for a night. Force her to take a break,” suggested Lara, sitting down on Sophia’s wheelie chair.
“I mean I don’t know if more dancing is a rest per se, but I like where this is going,” Sophia replied as she sat up.
“Nah come on girl, a night out is just what she needs. Besides, she does like dancing, it’s just the excessive working on it that’s the issue,” Lara said, “I reckon we should take all our girls to that party the people down the road are having on Friday,”
“I suppose it’s lowkey enough that we shouldn’t have to worry too much about attention, and those guys are a vibe,” mused Sophia.
“Yay!” squealed Lara, jumping up from her seat, “Ima go tell Manon”

Sighing, Sophia watched her go out the door, wondering what on earth she’d gotten into.

Wait… did she just come here to convince me to get us to go to that party?
