Chapter 2: Repressed Love (Error/Ink)

Summary:

A lot of monsters' opinions on the pink vial that belongs to Ink, is that it is pure lust and will drive him mad should he ever drink it. However, a pure evil vial, simply doesn't make sense.

Notes:

First one! Hoping to start off this challenge strong!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Ink, the leader of the Star Sanses, and protector of all Alternate Universes. Beloved by all, he was celebrated no matter where he went. Be it Underfell or Outertale, those who resided greeted him with glee.

All though, there are a few who have come to dislike to artist. His archnemesis, Error the Destroyer, was his biggest hater. No matter how many times Ink clashed with Error, they both would get back up and continue the cycle. Repetition however is boring, and Ink loved when new things happened.

It was a typical day in the Undertale Aus. The Star Sanses just returned to homebase from a scuttle with Nightmare’s gang. Though tired, they were alive. Ink painted his wounds with his green paint, as Dream healed Blueberry. There was a silence that was uncomfortable for Ink.

“Do you guys feel tired of fighting?”. Ink asked, his voice low without emotion, due to spending most of his vials magic on the battlefield previously.

Dream and Blueberry could both hear the lack of emotion. Immediately making them worried about him. He was getting bored of the monotony of day after day protecting the Aus. He just wanted a little excitement.

“Hey Ink, why don’t you go relax in your art room?”. Dream suggested forcefully.

Ink didn’t even reply. He gave sigh, as he turned to ink and darted across the house as a puddle to his art room.

Forming his solid self once in the room, Ink sat on the ground, his eye lights, pure white. He felt his breath be shallow, and his body start to become numb. He began to feel something, akin to panic. Yet only slightly, as Ink knew how horrible it was when he ran out of paint to sustain himself.

Taking a look at his vials, the only one that had any was his pink vial. He had sworn within himself to never drink it, because of how much dire consequence would result from that decision.

As he pulled the vial out of his sash, he heard a glitchy portal open behind him.

“Squid, has your memory failed to tell you where to refill your vials?”. Error asked, boredom laced into his voice.

Ink turned his body and head to face Error, but remind seated on the floor. He looked up at Error, and thought about how right now, he wouldn’t care if Error killed him. He wouldn’t care if Error killed anybody.

Error groaned annoyed at Ink’s silence.  Error stepped from the portal into the art room, and closed his portal behind himself.

Error sighed dramatically, rolling his eyes. He then sat down while still facing Ink.

For a while, it was pure silence. Then Ink began to hear the sound of kitchen pots and pans being moved around, meaning that Dream and Blueberry had started preparing dinner.

“You can kill them right now. It will take them by surprise.”. Ink suggested to Error.

Error rolled his eyes once again. “Ink, go to the doodle sphere, you need to feel your emotions.”.

“I can’t feel emotions, the paint only makes it look like I do.”. Ink replied dryly.

Suddenly, Fresh poofed in an explosion of glitter into the room. Sending Ink and Error into the wall by the force. Ink’s pink vial shattered in the explosion, and a large amount entered his mouth.

“HEYA Bros! I just wanted to stop by! Hows it goin?!”. Fresh exclaimed with delight.

Error was cursing Fresh under his breath, with neither of them noticing how Ink’s demeanor was starting to change. Ink felt a twinge of fear within himself, he was terrified of the power this vial had. Sure, overwhelming happiness or anger could lead to consequences, the romance vial held terrifying consequences.

Ink started to try and tie himself up in purple chains to restrain himself, but he had no magic to due so. He tried to use red paint to create pain so bad he couldn’t ignore it, but there just wasn;t enough paint to do damage.

Fresh finally noticed, seeing the hearts in Ink’s eyes. Fresh instantly got a look of fear on his face, and poofed out.

Error got a look of confusion, after all, Fresh liked to stay and cause mischief to those unfortunately around. Error then began to hear Ink scratch himself, to try and stave off the pink vials influence.

Turning to face Ink, Error quickly tied him up is his strings. Ink gave him a look of gratitude, and began to try and calm himself.

“I’m sorry, this vial may as well be pure evil, I’m sorry Error.”. Ink blurted out, as he felt the magic spread though him.

Ink was completely immovable in the strings. All he could due was talk and squirm. However, Error knew that Ink could sometimes say things he would regret later, so he covered Ink’s mouth in his strings.

“Hey Ink, all you gotta due is wait this out. I’ll stay here, how does that sound?”. Error asked, stepping a bit closer to Ink.

Ink, noticed something he had never seen before. Sure, he had drawn Error many times, and made notes on his beauty, but he suddenly saw Error not as his enemy, but as a kind prince-like being helping to keep him safe.

Kind eyes, confidence in the way Error spoke, Ink felt very safe. His thoughts, surprisingly weren’t lustful, but more of adoration.

Ink closed his eyes, and thought back to many interactions he had in the past with his enemy. How Ink would draw while Error crocheted in Outertale. Error would let him use his bean bag when in the Antivoid and under stimulated by the lack of colors. The times in battle where after Ink fell from a hard blow, Error let him get up without any attacks.

Ink opened his eyes, and saw Error on the floor, watching Undernovela through a portal. His eyes drifted to his bookcase, where one entire shelf purely held sketchbooks of Error. Ink thought it over in his mind, and came to the conclusion that his most often used subject was the glitch that sat before him.

The artist had always judged Error as merely being someone who hated creation, even though he knew Error enjoyed making puppets.

Suddenly, the idea of companionship with Error popped into his brain. They were both equals in magic, capable of harming the other incredibly. Yet they also had their moments of care for one another.
Ink was well aware that when he created an Au, that Error could feel a pang of pain in his soul. That Error could find him no matter where he could go. How Error came here, as if sensing something wrong with Ink. Here, Error was helping him.

Ink’s thoughts began swirling with ideas for dates, for hangouts. Maybe he could agree to the truce Error had proposed in past of them both retiring. They could become roomates, maybe marry.

After awhile, the pink vial’s influence left Ink. The thoughts and ideas stayed with him however. Error noticed when Ink’s heart eyes began to fade back into white pupils, so he got off of the ground and untied Ink’s mouth.

“Ink, can you go into the Doodlesphere now and refill your vials?”. Error asked, with annoyance in his tone. However, Ink noticed that Error’s eyes, held care for Ink.

Error had stayed here, and made sure Ink didn’t do something he would regret later. Ink, even with his lack of a soul, felt appreciated in a way that being the Protector of Aus didn’t entail.

“Yes Error, I’ll refresh myself. Thank you.”. Ink said, feeling calmed by Error’s presence.

“Next time you do this Squid, I am not helping you.”. Error said sharply as he opened a portal and left.

Ink watched Error’s graceful scarf flow behind him, almost an alluring fashion. Yet he knew he must go and refill his vials, he didn’t want to disappoint Error.

Ink portaled himself to the Doodlesphere, and laid on the ground for awhile just absorbing the colors of the Creators. He decided, maybe the pink vial, wasn’t just that of lust. It was of genuine adoration, for a person you love.

Chapter 3: The Shining Galaxy (Error/Outer)

Summary:

Outertale is one of the best Alternate Universes in Error's eyes, all it really is just a palate swap from the original. Since the only universe wants to remain someday is Undertale, he finds a good time relaxing in those similar to it. Outer is just a benefit.

Notes:

Requested by: StrawberruS0da: any character and error, with the other character trying to help error with his haphephobia (i'd like it to be platonic)

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Outertale, such a majestic Alternate Universe. There are many things the Destroyer of Aus finds pleasing about it. How the stars shine in the sky, how his cliff area is left undisturbed, and how Outer always keeps his distance.

It was a mildly stressful day for Error. He had only been able to erase 15 Aus before Ink had damaged him enough to cause him to retreat. Nightmare had been blowing up his phone again about a grand plan to rule the entire multiverse. Fresh spilled a gallon of glitter glue onto Error’s precious bean bag in the Antivoid.

So, Error was resting on his favorite cliff in Outertale. Laying on his side, he heard timid footsteps approaching.

“Hey, buddy. What brings you here?”. Outer called from a distance. He tried to emulate the usual Sans confidence and carefree attitude, but fear was clearly laced into his voice.

Error gave a bit of a heavy sigh, then rolled over to face Outer. “I’ve had a rough day.”.

Outer immediately assumed the worst, causing Error to giggle slightly.

“Oh! A bad time then, I’ll just leave you be!”. Outer sputtered out, as he began to walk backwards with his hands in the air to show surrender. Outer then stumbled a little bit due to walking backwards.

Error’s giggle grew into a heartfelt laugh. Even with the pain of battle, he found the situation quite funny.

Outer joined him in laughing, as he really didn’t want to get on Error’s bad side.

“Hi Outer! How’s the only Au beside the original that I don’t call an abomination?”. Error said, his laughter quieting down but still present in his glitchy voice.

Outer was a bit taken aback by the question, but still replied, “Oh, it's going well. Frisk has done only Neutrals for the last 52 resets and hasn’t killed Papyrus in 43 resets.”. Outer observed Error give him a small genuine smile.

“Glad your kid has been merciful, all a Sans can really desire for in this multiverse of never ending time-loops.”. Error chuckled a bit at the end.

For a few minutes, Error and Outer just stayed where they were, looking at the other. Outer felt more and more sweat fall off of him the longer he and Error kept eye contact. Error is after all a man who won’t hesitate to murder, torture, and steal from monsters.

“I honestly think you may be the only Sans to have never attacked me. Blueberry and I spar sometimes, and he gets a hit in, Fresh and I squabble sometimes, even the random Au Farmertale Sans has whacked me over the head before. Yet every time I come here, you let me be unbothered. You never call the council, and you keep your distance. May I ask why?”. Error asked with a calm demeanor.

Outer looks Error side to side and up to down. All he saw though was just a Sans, just like him, laying down, battered and bruised from a bad day. He knew that Error likes to be feared, and respected. Yet he also knew above all else, from what Blueberry has said in council meetings, is that Error likes to be told he is best.

Outer decided to give a somewhat half lie as a response to Error’s question, “Error, you uh, have an important job as being the Destroyer of Aus, no one else could possibly slaughter so many people so fast. You're a natural at your job!”.

Error’s laughter shook the entire Au. Outer could hear people in town shout about an earthquake. Error’s glitches, while overwhelming to Error, didn’t stop him from getting into hysterics after Outer’s response.

“You’re the best Outer, never change!”. Error said with joy, as he calmed himself from his fit of laughter.

However, Outer noticed Error wince a bit in pain. With caution, Outer walked slowly toward Error. Once Outer was close to him, he saw several acid burns on Error’s arms and legs from Ink’s red paint.

Outer decided to sit down next to Error, keeping his distance as he knew of Error’s haphephobia. Outer then thought back to the comment of him possibly being the only version of Sans to never harm Error.

“Do you think your body would accept my healing magic because I’ve never caused any harm to you before?”. Outer asked, sympathy clear in his eyes.

Error had a small smile back on his face. Outer did see though that Error had a bit of fear in his eyes, and shallow breathing after the offer.

Error, his voice a bit strained from tiredness and laughing said, “Maybe, my existence is pain right now. I want relief, but touching people, even my best friend Blueberry just causes me to crash.”.

Outer then stretched out one of his hands toward Error and emanated some healing magic out of it. Error knew he could only absorb the magic through physical touch, and that Outer was letting him be the only one to do the touching.

Error, hesitantly, reached out with his pointer finger, and briefly touched Outer’s hand. Pain and glitches swarmed over his body, but he could feel some of the magic helping. He repeated several times, a brief touch, then retreating into himself from the pain.

“Is there anything I could do to make this better Error?”. Outer asked. Still primarily motivated by wanting to keep his home universe from being annihilated by the mass murderer Destroyer lying before him, but also out of a care for someone who did clearly see him with a somewhat positive mindset.

“Maybe I could make you some gloves, my body recognizes my own magic as being safe. I think that might be why I can be hugged by Blueberry for a millisecond before crashing.”. Error suggested.

“If you make me gloves, I’ll be sure to wear them!”. Outer said in an encouraging way.

Outer began to run out of healing magic, so he unsummoned it, Error understood. Outer brought his hand back to himself and decided to look at the stars instead of Error.

Error rolled over so he could face the stars, then sat himself up. “Hey, I feel a little better, you were a big help Outer.”.

“No problem, buddy”. Outer replied.

Error let out a little chuckle, then opened a portal to the Antivoid, grabbing his knitting supplies. He pulled out a fabric tape measure and handed it to Outer.

“What color would you like your gloves to be?”. Error asked, then turned his head to Outer and gave a calm smile of content.

“Any colors fine, what’s your favorite color?”. Outer said, still wanting to please the Destroyer.

“I fight an artist named Ink every day, you think I like colors?! Ha, I’ll just give you the natural beauty of my blue strings.”. Error then quickly started to make the gloves.

As a wishing star passed overhead, Outer found himself wishing that he always finds Error in a good mode when he comes to Outertale. Which he will, because Outertale is Error’s favorite Au.

Chapter 4: Stressed Life (Error/Dream)

Summary:

Dream has been running of coffee and hopes and, well, dreams. When an opportunity to finally have some rest presents itself, he has to take advantage of it.

Notes:

Personal one done by me. Inspired by the prompt, "taking care of sick friend". I know Dream isn't sick, but tiredness can kill.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Dream has felt very overwhelmed as of recently. For the past two days he has gone without sleep due to Ink being on a massive patrol across the multiverse dealing with his brother Nightmare’s Gang. Anytime Dream tried to rest he was interrupted by either spikes of negativity or a phone call from Ink requesting help defending an Au. Such as to why he was where he is right now.

In a copy of Musictale, Error engaged in battle with the two Star Sanses once again. Dream was honestly just focusing on defensive magic, but with tiredness, one's judgement often becomes impaired. After a particularly hard stumble from tiredness, Dream summoned magic attacks all around himself, just to get Error to get away.

As Ink was in arms distance, he got the brunt of the damage from the bones. Error was in the sky, his strings like a spider web. Didn’t even get a scratch from Dream’s attack. Error laughed maniacally, as he sent down a large amount of his strings wrapping up Ink and Dream.

Error then pulled out the code and crushed it in his hand. As the world crumbled around them, Ink turned himself into ink to escape the danger. Dream, defenseless and alone, was dragged into the Anti-Void by Error. Dream took notice of the large amount of souls tied on the ceiling, Error’s gigantic beanbag on the floor. With knitting materials all around it, and a few dolls of Undertale Aus.

Dream hardly noticed as he was tied up to Error’s web in the ceiling of the Anti-Void. Error expected to hear cries of protest and asking for mercy, but all he got was a tired Dream. Whose eyes were baggy, his body exhausted, and heavy breathing. Dream fought off sleep even more as Error looked at him with confusion.

“At least Blueberry roleplays as a hostage for a few minutes before we binge Undernovela, why are you being so quiet?”. Error asked Dream.

Dream spoke without thinking about his words before he said them, “I’d love to have a nap on your beanbag. It looks comfortable.”. Dream breathed out, yawning after finishing. He fought his eyes trying to close.

Error was flabbergasted. Dream knew how possessive Error was of his belongings, how he would fight anyone who tried to touch his stuff. He did notice though, how Dream’s eyes were starting to tear up from dryness. How Dream’s body struggled to stay up right under its own weight.

Dream’s head went down for a second, before being violently brought up by Dream, an awakening to his system. Dream could tell his thoughts were getting cloudy, and how the longer he was tied up, the more he wanted to just fall asleep right then and there. He did consider it, after all; Error doesn't kill original Aus, it's like being in an upright sleeping bag, and it's very quiet in the Anti-Void.

Dream didn’t notice Error lowered the strings tying him up, and walked closer to examine his face. Dream was snapped out of his daze when Error snapped his finger in front of Dream’s eyes.

Dream quickly remembered he was dealing with the violent, murderous, Destroyer of Aus. “Oh! What is it, Error?!”. Dream hurriedly rushed out as panic began to set in.

Error looked Dream deep in the eyes, trying to get a better understanding of the situation. Dream noticed that Error has a small look of concern, his body language also showed Error to be taking this situation seriously.

“Nightmare has told me how important sleep is for monsters. You are the literal embodiment of a good sleep, how are you tired?”. Error asked, confusion evident in his voice.

Taking a deep breath, then a yawn, Dream mumbled out. “I’m tired because…,”. Dream took another longing gaze toward the very comfortable looking beanbag. He felt his head get heavier second by second. Before Dream knew it, he was out cold.

Dream’s astral projection left his physical body. He saw himself pass out in front of Error. His mind snapped back to coherent thought.

“Oh no! Error has my body, is he going to attack me while defenseless?”. Dream shouted out.

Error couldn’t hear or see Dream’s astral self. However, Dream did notice how Error looked concerned about him.

Dream watched as Error pulled out his phone and dialed up Nightmare. After about twenty seconds, a portal from his brother’s castle opened up, and Nightmare entered the Anti-Void.

Nightmare could see his twin in panic over the situation but knew that he was the only one that could. Nightmare let out a slight chuckle over the scene.

“Ah, you did quite a number on my brother, didn’t you Error?”. Nightmare asked, stifling a smile.

Error looked surprisingly panicked to Dream. “I swear boss, he just fainted, I didn’t do anything!”.

Dream was somewhat aware of how his brother had a rule that only Nightmare would hurt Dream. Dream didn’t want Error to get punished, so he rushed to defend him.

“I haven’t slept in days. All Error did was kidnap me.”. Dream explained hastily.

“I suppose you have been loyal and honest in the past Error, so I trust you to make sure my brother has a long restful sleep in your Antivoid, so I can spread negativity without him trying to stop me.”. Nightmare said, then quickly leaving through his summoned portal.

Error looked very nervous. Dream saw Error look over his asleep body, analyzing it. Error then wrapped his strings around his beanbag and brought it over. He slowly lowered Dream onto the bean bag. Dream saw how delicately Error was treating him, even though during battle it always seemed that he was so strong and powerful to defeat them.

Error took off his jacket and laid it on top of the sleeping Dream. Dream then saw Error grab a puppet of Dream, and place it into Dream’s hands. Error then sat down next to his bean bag and began knitting a new puppet. Dream could tell it was a new one of him, because he was practically the only Sans that is mostly composed of yellow.

Since Dream’s astral projection was stuck in the Antivoid, all he could really do was watch Error knit, it was quite calming to him. Like doing meditation to relax oneself.  Seeing the more delicate side of Error, felt refreshing in a way to Dream.

Dream had no idea how long he was in the Antivoid, but Error never left his side. After a while, his soul went back to his body, and he woke up.

Dream stood up so fast his brain went cloudy again. After a few seconds he composed himself. “Hey Error! I am so sorry for sleeping on your beanbag!”. Dream had a panicked look on his face.

Dream opened a portal to the Star Sanses base, and only heard as leapt through,

“I uh, it was nice having you…”. Error’s voice cut out as the portal closed.

Dream felt a large amount of shame within himself. Not only had he been in the Destroyer's domain, but Ink and Blueberry both just heard what Error said through the portal.

“Error, ‘had you’, Dream?”. Blueberry asked with a slight smirk.

Dream quickly picked up on what Blueberry was suggesting, “Error kidnapped me, after Ink and I fought him. I was held against my will in the Anti-Void.”.

“Hm, Error is usually pretty nice to you. He’s never fractured your femurs or ribs.” Ink commented.

“Yeah! Error told me how Nightmare told him to never physically hurt Dream, but that doesn't make sense, I see the gang trying to hurt you all the time, to give their boss a break!”. Blueberry explained.

At this Dream then realized, he was still holding the puppet Error had made of him. He would definitely be hearing more about this later.

Chapter 5: Child Of Divorce - Part 1 (Error/Reaper)

Summary:

Goth has always wondered what his father Geno is like. He's gotten confusing information from those around him of the fate his father suffered. He may finally be old enough to learn the truth.

Notes:

Espero q a ideia seja boa

I had so much fun writing this, so much potential was put into this request!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

The memories Goth has of Geno are very few, but that hasn’t stopped him from longing for his missing father. Littered in his bedroom are pictures of his late father, some with red glasses and some without, and a small doll of Geno that Error had made for him for his tenth birthday. Reaper had tried to give it back to Error a few times, but Goth always objected.

Goth was lounging on his bed, holding the doll, when Reaper suddenly busted open the door. It was clear that Reaper was in a bad mood, and as of late Goth had been trying to avoid conversation with his father, like most typical teenagers toward their parents.

“Goth, I told you to be ready for the council meeting thirty minutes ago! Why are you still in your pajamas?”. Reaper said angrily.

Goth honestly thought that the council was pretty dumb. All of these Sanses get together to discuss the politics of Nightmare’s gang, and the status quo of sending the Star Sanses to deal with them continues. Frankly it was more of a formality than anything.

“Nothing will change if I show up. The Star Sanses will fight Nightmare’s gang just like they do day after day.”. Goth pulled out his phone to show disrespect toward his father Reaper.

A second later, Reaper grabbed his arm, making his doll of Geno fall to the floor, and dragged him screaming through a portal to the Star Sanses headquarters where the council meets. It was clear that the meeting had already started in Reaper’s absence, but with Goth’s screaming all eyes turned to him.

Reaper let go of Goth’s arm, and Goth fell to the ground without the support. His father then walked to the chair farthest away from any other chairs and sat down. No one wants to sit anywhere close to either of them.

Blueberry quickly brought over a spare chair, as Goth levitated himself off of the ground. He glared toward his father, who returned a glare back. Goth took a seat next to his father, and looked toward Dream.

“Oh, welcome Goth! Reaper decided you were finally old enough to join in our discussions of how to handle the affairs that affect the Undertale Alternate Universes. I take it Reaper has told you about your other father…”. Dream was interrupted by Reaper.

“Geno is gone, and may as well be dead! We do not discuss him when Goth is here.”. Reaper stood out of his chair, his hands slamming on the table.

This, Goth took notice of instantly. Reaper had always been so avoidant of the topic of Geno. Goth had memories of his parents being lovable to each other and him. How Geno was the one person alive that could touch Reaper without dying. Goth had never been outright told that Geno was dead, but sort of assumed it because of how people reacted when he asked them.

Goth thought back to when he asked Ink in the past about the fate of his father, “Oh, your dad, uh, glitched out, like nearly completely”. A conversation he had with Fresh once, “Geno was a rad bud, but now, the situation is just uncool.”. Goth went over the list in his head of how many Sanses he had asked in the past about Geno, and their sketchy answers.

“If Geno is alive I want to meet him.”. Goth said with authority toward Reaper and the other Sanses.

Reaper had so much fury, that Sanses began to get out of their seats and walk backwards out of fear.

Dream tried to diffuse the situation, “Goth, um, Geno is definitely not what you remember him being like.”.

This comment made Reaper so mad that he slammed a magic attack into the ground so hard the floor cracked and the Au shook like an earthquake. Reaper grabbed Goth’s shoulders so tightly he felt a sharp pain.

“It is for your own good that you never meet the bastard that Geno turned into! Geno hates you and wants you dead!”. Reaper then pushed Goth into the ground, causing him a large amount of pain.

Reaper then stomped over to a terrified Dream, and said firmly, “You and everyone else here promised me you would never bring up my dear Geno to my son Goth. That is how it will be until the day he dies, and since Goth is my son, he never will.”. Reaper loomed over Dream.

Suddenly, a blue whip snapped Reaper into a wall away from Dream.

“Hey Reaper, you know the balance will get all messed up if you kill my brother.”. Nightmare said with an air of confidence.

Nightmare, his right hand man Killer, his main attack absorber Horror, his fastest attacker Dust, and the one Goth considered to be the mom of the group, Error. They were undoubtedly drawn from the negativity of the council.

Reaper got out of the wall, and glared at Error. Goth knew that he and Error were exes, after Reaper tried to bounce back after the debacle that, Goth still has no idea about, happened. It was after they had broken up that Error gave the doll to Goth. For this, Goth actually had a bit of respect for Error.

“The gall to show up, at a time like this!”. Reaper shouted at Error.

“We go where the negativity is! Simple as that Reaps.”. Killer explained.

Goth decided to try to get on his father’s even worse side, “Hey Error! How are you doing?”.

The amount of eyes that shifted to him and Error was everyone. Stunned silence from Reaper, the Star Sanses, the Council, and the gang. However, Error was very composed.

“Oh, doing well. Horror tore his jacket a week ago so I’ve been repairing it. Undernovela is having a particularly dramatic season right now with…”. Reaper rushed to attack right on Error.

Goth knew that Error was the only other person besides Geno that could touch Reaper, so he wasn’t particularly scared for Error, however the fight was brutal.

They threw each other into walls, the wind of the whips, against the metal of the scythe. The battle was over quickly, no one had even been able to react to the fight starting.

Error stood over Reaper, bruised but alive and still going. Error gave a sigh of annoyance, waved to Goth, and opened a portal to Outertale. Goth could see Reaper begin to twitch out of frustration.

Goth then saw Reaper open a portal to his bedroom, and began ripping up the pictures of Geno. It was a rabid animal like fury, tearing through things without rhyme or reason. Goth tried to grab his father to stop him, but Reaper is so strong it didn’t matter.

By the time it was over, Goth was alone in his room, crying on the floor. Hours had passed, and all that was left was his torn up doll of Geno. The head ripped off, the torso cut open, the legs mishappen.

Goth could hear Reaper slam his bedroom door downstairs closed, and all he could hear from himself was his sobbing. Goth wanted to be somewhere else, he hated being at home.

Goth thought about a time when he was around 7 years old, and Reaper had introduced his at the time boyfriend Error. Error was able to touch Goth, but as he had haphephobia, couldn’t touch for long. After the meeting, Reaper asked Goth if he would be alright with a step-father, and Goth had said yes.

They did break up only months later, but that memory played in Goth’s mind as he opened a portal to Outertale, to see possibly his favorite Sans, Error. Tears were still rolling down his face as he walked toward the area that he knew Error often relaxed in.

After a bit of walking, he spotted Error a distance away. With his red glasses, Goth thought to himself about how similar they looked to Geno’s. Goth decided to levitate the rest of the way toward Error.

Goth wiped the tears off his face with his sleeve and lowered himself beside Error.

“Hi Error.”. Goth said weakly.

Error was a bit startled, but turned to Goth with a smile. That smile turned to a look of confusion when he saw how sad Goth looked.

Before Error could even say anything, Goth’s tears came wheeling up, and Goth lunged into a hug with Error. Sobbing into Error’s shoulder, he couldn’t even verbalize how he was feeling.

After a few moments, Goth felt Error return the hug gently. They sat for a few minutes, just hugging each other as Geno cried his heart out.

“Your dad told you, didn’t he?”. Error asked, guilt laced into his voice.

This sort of snapped Goth out of his crying fit. This is the reaction that Error expects of him when he finds out what happened to his father. To cry, specifically into Error’s shoulder.

Goth pulled away from the hug, and looked Error straight in the eyes. “No, everyone refuses to tell me what happened! Dad just destroyed everything I have to remind me of Geno, including the doll you made me!”. Goth cried out.

Goth showed Error the Geno doll, and he could see sympathy in Error’s eyes.

Goth pleaded out, “Please just tell me what happened to Geno. I don’t care if he hates me, I just miss him so much!”. Goth then dropped his doll, and hugged Error again.

He felt Error hug back more firmly, which felt nice. Reaper hardly touched his son with friendly intentions.

“Geno has amnesia, he can’t remember you or Reaper, or anyone in the entire multiverse.”. Error began explaining.

Goth perked up a bit hearing that. Then tears showed in his eyes, his father is alive. Even if Geno has amnesia, he could at least interact with his father.

“After Geno got amnesia, he went insane, and began killing monsters from all sorts of Aus.”. Error continued.

Goth then had a thought. He remembered the story about how Error showed up out of nowhere, and began killing people. How he had to be taught how to eat using utensils, how to use silverware.

His father was only ever romantically interested in Geno, and he hadn’t reaped Geno, so why would he date someone else. How Error was, a glitchy skeleton.

“Your Geno, aren’t you?”

Error exposed his soul, and it was the fractured soul he had seen in so many pictures of his late father. Goth checked it, and the name Geno was shown to him.

Chapter Text

There was a strong look of guilt on Error’s face. He retracted his soul back into his body, and squeezed Goth’s hands. Goth was speechless, but at the same time had many questions.

Error knew he was Geno, but said that he had amnesia? If he and Reaper began dating, why did they break up after having several years of a loving marriage? What was Error’s opinion on Goth himself?

Goth thought back to how Reaper had said that Geno hates him and wants him dead. “What's, your opinion of me?”. Goth asked timidly.

Error had lots of hesitation as he spoke, and thought over his words, “Goth, you are a good kid. I am only your father through blood, I haven’t raised you. I, can’t honestly say I see you as my child. I don’t, care about you the way a parent does.”. Error explained.

Goth did take notice though, that Error’s voice had a tremble to it. He thought back to the doll Error had made him, knowing how much child Goth missed Geno. How right now, Error was tenderly explaining this to him, unlike everyone else who had been so avoidant of the subject.

Goth pulled Error into another hug, which Error accepted.

“Why did no one tell me?”. Goth asked.

Error gave Goth a comforting squeeze, then explained, “I was trapped in the Antivoid for about two years. By the time I escaped you were six years old. No one knew who I was, not even me.”.

Error gave a pause, then continued, “There was a large fight, even Nightmare’s gang were working with the Star Sanses and Council. I was destroying every Au I went into, so they all agreed to work together to kill me. By the end of the battle, my soul was showing through my body. Reaper came to finish me off, but was overwhelmed with emotion when he saw who I was. All I saw was an opening to escape, and so I fled.”.

Goth felt some tears on his back now, but Error continued on, “Reaper was so motivated to get me back to normal, he honesty helped me a lot at the beginning. Helped me relearn how to interact with people. How to live a regular life. However, I could never please him the way Geno did. I have different mannerisms, interests, and I can’t, remember any of the good old days.”.

Goth felt a lot of sympathy for his father. It wasn’t Error’s fault that he can’t remember who he used to be. Blueberry has told him in the past how maddening the Antivoid is. It is very unfair for Reaper to expect Error to act just the way he used to.

“Why?” Goth asked, since while Error was telling him plainly, when everyone else it seems, knew this entire time and didn’t say anything.

“Reaper made every Sans promise not to tell you, and Sanses hate to break promises.”. Error explained.

It made, complete sense now to Geno. They had been giving him hints for years, and he just hadn't been able to see through it.

They sat in silence for a few minutes, tears on both sides as they hugged each other. The warmth of a hug was something Goth experienced rarely, and hugging Error felt so nice, that he didn’t want to let go.

Goth was still very upset with Reaper. His bedroom destroyed, his doll ripped up, and for keeping this a secret from him for so long. He would have handled this knowledge fine when he was younger.

Goth decided to take a risk, “Can I live with you, dad?”.

Error went still, then quietly said, “I am not a good parent. Reaper isn’t perfect, but he is far better than I am.”.

“Damn right I am!”. Reaper shouted intruding and startling Error and Goth.

A deep scowl on his face, his hands squeezing in rage.

Goth stood up and made a defensive stance in front of Error. Even though he knew Reaper wouldn’t kill Error, he still wanted to defend him.

Error’s phone suddenly rang, and he rushed to answer it. There was a lot of background noise, clearly training happening in Nightmare’s castle.

Horror’s voice was loud, but it was just to cover up the background noise. “Hey Ma! Dad is mad us right now, can you come distract him?”. Horror asked, giggling.

Error response was nonchalant, clearly used often in his life, “Killer knows better than to get on Nightmare’s bad side.”.

“But Mom! Dad is beating up Dust with a pillow right now, and since he has tentacles its an unfair fight!”. Horror whined out.

Error let out a groan, then said, “Fine, I’ll be there in a few minutes.”.

“Thanks Ma!”. Horror shouted as the phone call ended.

Goth, remembered hearing from Sanses how Nightmare’s gang acted a lot like a family. Nightmare the father, Error the mother, and the others, their kids. Of course, Error and Nightmare weren’t romantically involved, but neither would correct the gang members when they called them those titles, even in battle. This reinforced in Goth’s mind, that Error is perfectly capable of being a father to him.

“Error, you could be my mom like you are with Nightmare’s gang.”. Goth stated confidently.

This made Error and Reaper freeze. Error, had glitches buzz all over him, but managed to calm them down. Error began to start to say something, but Reaper interrupted him.

“Fine Goth, stay with Error if you want. You are not welcome back into my house until you apologize.”. Reaper then portaled away, leaving Goth and Error alone.

Goth saw, lots of emotions go through Error’s face. Fear, confusion, hesitation, and a bit of minor joy.

Goth decided to hug Error again, this time them both standing. Error returned it, but began to give a nervous chuckle.

“Uh, Goth, Nightmare has some spare rooms, and I’m sure he would love to have you as a guest. However I am not parent material, I can’t, treat you in a way that will make you happy.”. Error explained.

“You already treat me better then Reaper does.”. Goth reassured.

It was clear that Error was a bit uncomfortable, but he squeezed to end the hug, then patted Goth on the head a few times with one of his hands.

After letting go of the hug, they looked at each other for awhile. Error then opened a portal to Nightmare’s castle training room.

Nightmare and his gang were entangled in a pillow fight, three against one, and Nightmare was winning. When they saw Goth however, they all straightened themselves out. Goth gave Error a hopeful smile.

“Hi guys, I’d like to introduce my son, Goth.”. Error gestured to Goth as he said it.

The smile of Goth’s face rivaled the smile on the gang’s faces. They were so glad they no longer had to be worried about Reaper in reference to Error being Goth’s father.

As Goth and Error walked into the portal, Nightmare came up to Goth.

“Hello Goth. Would you like to join our family?”. Nightmare said, as he gestured to Error, Horror, Dust, and Killer.

“Yes, I would.”. Goth said proud and happy.

“Then lets find you a room.”. Error reassured.

Goth had finally found Geno, and he didn’t regret it at all.

Chapter Text

Ink as the protector of Alternate Universes can watch in his Doodlesphere as Creators make brand new pages of Aus. As this is the way his paints are produced, he finds a calm beauty in the process. However, a brand-new page was just made, and he finds it very strange, there was a strange magic surrounding it, more special than the other Aus that have been made.

The page of an Alternate Universe, named Dreamtale. Ink was surprised to see two Sanses, one mostly yellow, and the other mostly purple. It was then clear to Ink, that the Creator that made this Au, had not used the model of Classic, like every other had been, but of Blueberry from Underswap.

This had never been done in the history of Creators making Aus for Ink to protect, so he knew he had to instantly tell his opposite the news. Using Broomie, he painted a portal on the floor and jumped in, popping out into the Antivoid.

Error and Blueberry were sitting with each other on Error’s beanbag watching Undernovela. They took notice of Ink’s arrival, Error with annoyance, and Blueberry with joy.

“Ink! My good buddy how are you doing?”. Blueberry asked his friend.

Ink was bursting with excitement as he said, “Amazing! A creator made an Au with your body as the Sanses, not Classic!”.

Error took notice of the plural of Sanses for a singular Au. “Oh, an abomination that accidentally duplicated Sans. Don’t worry, I’ll erase it once this episode of Undernovela is over.”. Error reassured, a horrified Ink.

“No, No! This Au has to stay, is an Au never seen before!”. Ink tried to explain.

“If I am modeled off of classic, how are they modeled after me specifically?”. Blueberry asked.

Ink thought the question over, trying to remember what made it clear they were based off of Blueberry and not Classic. Then he realized it was the eyes, and the out of character-ness. Then, the strange magic that had been over layed on top of the page.

These two Sanses, this Dreamtale was made with a bigger purpose in mind. While right now they were what might be considered just an Au, Ink remembered from the paper, that they would eventually be Outcodes, influencing the entirety of the multiverse. A positive and negative balance, similar to the roles Ink and Error fill as the Protector and Destroyer.

“Your eye lights and personality!”. Ink spoke out to answer Blueberry’s question.

Blueberry then seemed to think a thought but chose not to vocalize it. Error noticed and gave Blueberry an encouraging look.

“Could Error and I meet these Sanses?”. Blueberry asked.

Ink pondered the idea in his head. This Au was in a way, destined to fall eventually. There would undoubtedly be a catastrophic event that would allow these Sanses to escape into the multiverse at large to spread their influence.

However, what large amount of harm could there be by letting them meet Blueberry and Error now? These skeletons are still so young, they would have no memory of being visited by the time they made their ascension to the level Error and Ink are on.

“Sure! Let’s go!”. Ink then opened an inky portal underneath himself and the couple.

They popped out outside the gate of a village. Error and Blueberry spent a few minutes physically recovering from Ink’s portal. Once Error had entered, he realized the same that Ink had, this Au was fated to one day break permanently, so that Outcodes could be made to affect the multiverse. The same thing that happened to him, splitting off his brother Geno like mitosis into who he was now.

It left an ache in Error’s soul, but he pushed it aside. The group peered through the gate, and saw a tree with apples, yellow and black. Sitting at the base of the tree were the two skeletons, young in age physically short, but it was clearly the proportions of Blueberry.

“Huh, I’m surprised the creator of this Au didn’t use the Handplates Sans model for these guys.”. Error commented seeing the skeletons with an almost uncanny resemblance to Blueberry.

Error suddenly, had a feeling of dread about them interacting with these Sanses. An Outcode interacting with somebody before they become an Outcode, could result in dire consequences. Like how when his brother Fresh possess a Sans, that entire Au slowly corrupts into a blinding mess of neon colors.

Blueberry could see Error face, a face of fear, uncertainty, and one that has seen things that can never be taken back. Blueberry reassuringly grabbed Error’s hand and brought Error out of his thoughts of how badly things could turn out.

Suddenly a timid voice surprised the trio, “Hello misters! You look scared, my brother could help you out with that.”. The small yellow skeleton said as he approached the gate.

Hiding behind the yellow skeleton was the purple skeleton. Up close they looked even younger to Blueberry.

“Oh, my boyfriend is worried about you two. Where are your parents?”. Blueberry asked.

The purple one then said, “Could you be our parents, you look more like us then anyone in town, and they all make fun of me.”.
Error was so overwhelmed with the situation, he crashed. Scaring the children, Blueberry, and Ink. Blueberry quickly opened a portal to Aftertale, dropping Error off, then returning to Dreamtale to continue the conversation with the children.

Error woke up sitting on the ground, leaning against the Save Screen. Fresh sat on the top of the save screen to Error’s left, and to his right Geno was sat with his son Goth napping on him. Once Error woke up, he pulled himself up so he could sit down on the middle.

“Ay bro! Your chill pill lasted an hour! What got you so riled up?”. Fresh asked Error.

Error, thought back to his many doubts that loomed over him about Dreamtale. His glitches began over taking him again.

Goth tapped his arm, grounding him back in the moment with his brothers. “Uncle, Blueberry texted Dad that you guys were meeting his kids my age? Am I gonna have cousins?”. Goth was still a bit tired from his nap.

Geno gave Error a reassuring smile. “Outcodes, huh? I mean, on one hand, having guidance when the tragedy happens sounds like it would be comforting, but you and I had no guidance when fate struck their hand in our lives.”.

“It's so unrad what happened to you bros.”. Fresh said sincerely.

Error, thought back to the loneliness he experienced in the Antivoid, how the white vastness drove him mad. Error decided to open a portal to Dreamtale, and look at the code to see what would happen in the future of those children.

The yellow would be celebrated by the people, the purple bullied for his differences. It would culminate in the monsters trying to kill the purple, and the purple retaliating. The yellow would be trapped in stone, for a period of 300 years. The purple would then spread negativity throughout the multiverse.

Error made up his mind, even though one cannot change fate, they can try to make it bearable for these children. He dismissed the code and jumped through the portal.

Closing it behind him, he saw it was nighttime in the Au. Ink and Blueberry were having a picnic with the skeleton brothers. Blueberry noticed Error quickly and ran up to him.

Blueberry then whispered, “These two are so lonely being the only skeletons around, Ink suggested that maybe we could take care of them!”. Blueberry looked at Error with pleading eyes.

“Then let's take care of them, even after their time of tragedy comes.”. Error replied.

“Kiddos, we can be your fathers!”. Blueberry excitedly explained to the brothers.

“Can you give us names?”. The yellow one asked.

“I feel that Nightmare and Dream would be the most appropriate.”. Error said.

Chapter 8: Pirates - Part 1 (Error/Nightmare)

Summary:

Nightmare leads a pirate crew to rescue his brother Dream. He forms an alliance with the merfolk rebellion leader Error.

Notes:

Inspired by the prompt, Mermaid Au. thank you for reading!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Nightmare and his crew have sailed the seas for years in search of the King of Merfolk, the Kraken Ink. When Nightmare was just a young lad, his brother Dream was sacrificed as a bride to the Kraken, so that their village would be spared. Nightmare had spent his time getting stronger, gaining allies, and researching the Kraken Ink.

Nightmare found out that the Kraken targeted island villages, as the mainland monsters thought he was being mystical when he talked about merfolk and krakens. Yet even with that delay, he gained his current crew, and they were loyal to him and his goal of rescuing his brother. Though there was a bit of discussion about how merfolk aren't real.

Currently, the sky has begun clouding, the water has gotten a bit rougher. The ship that Nightmare currently owns, is medium sized at best. As the captain he was the only one who had a bedroom, the crew all slept in the same room with bunk beds.

Nightmare was doing his rounds around the boat, to ensure it would remain afloat during the upcoming storm.

He came upon the kitchen, where Horror was hastily securing the barrels of hardtack and rum. “Hi captain! All the fresh has been wrapped up and secured, this is the last to be stored.”.

Nightmare looked over his work, and gave Horror an approving nod, before moving on to the underdeck. Dust was securing the canons to the floor, and the canon balls were boxed up securely, so that they wouldn’t roll around when the ship was being tossed and turned.

“Good work Dust, once you're done, head up deck and tie down the sails with Cross, he is currently working on that.”. Nightmare said.

“Aye aye Captain!”. Dust replied as he finished up.

Dust rushed past Nightmare, and he could feel the ship begin to creek. Yet it also began to turn.

Heading back up deck, Nightmare saw Killer turning the wheel so that the ship was in the direction of the waves. To minimize the force taken against the ship.

Nightmare began to walk up to the steering wheel, when the weather turned sour fast. Rain began blasting down so fast it stung, the clothes they wore became heavy, they felt the ship shake.

“We have battered down the hatches! We will last through this wretched storm, all hands-on deck!”. Nightmare shouted out.

“Aye!”. The crew responded, inspired by Nightmare.

The storm was brutal, waves crashing into the back of the vessel. The sky as dark as Nightmare’s soul, and just as merciful. The wind rocked the ship so much the crew fell to their feet many times. They worked tirelessly for hours to keep the ship afloat.

The storm has raged for hours, they were getting tired and hungry. However the condition of the weather made them keep going on. A fog set in, making visibility even worse for the men working to keep the ship going. When suddenly, a bang rang out, and the ship steadied.

They had hit dry land, and the storm began to clear. They continued their frenzied motions, nut once only a drizzle came out of the sky, Nightmare decided they should head in for the night.

Nightmare found himself almost restless, practically marooned somewhere. If they had hit dry lang, the royal guard would surely arrest them as soon as they got off ship. If they had hit an island, they would be left without food and water eventually with no way of taking the ship back out to sea.

Once Nightmare got a few hours of sleep, he stepped out of his captain quarters. A faint sunrise, showed him that he was on a small island, he could see from one edge to another from where he was standing on the ship. Nightmare decided to put down the plank, and walk around the island.

The sand was cool to the touch, and the wind was fast. Trees were empty of life beside their own leaves, and it truly unnerved Nightmare about how he couldn’t hear the sound of any animals. He then came across a cave, and there was a faint blue glow from inside.

Nightmare was cautious as he walked, but came across a curious sight. There was a small area of water that looked very deep, and on the edge was a dark blue skeleton merman bound tightly in strings, yet it appeared to be the merman’s own magic from tears streaming down their face. The mouth forcefully shut with the strings, and hands bound behind their back. When it noticed Nightmare, it began to growl, in an attempt of intimidation.

Nightmare, took note about how the merman was naked even by merfolk standers. Most merfolk believed that covering the chest and wearing jewelry was proper and the correct way to live. Yet this merman in front of Nightmare, just had their tail and bare ribs.

Thinking back to his childhood, Nightmare remembers hearing about how the Kraken would eat one merfolk a month to sustain itself, how he only was the King of Merfolk because they had failed to kill him. Nightmare reached for a pocket knife, scaring the bound merman.

“I have no reason to want to kill you, I’ll cut you free of your binds, just stay still.”. Nightmare commanded the merman to do.

The merman kept a close eye on Nightmare, but stilled. Nightmare slowly approached, keeping himself predictable. He was well aware that merfolk were often killed on sight, so that there scales could be sold, so he wanted to make sure this merman felt at ease.

Nightmare couldn’t find himself hating merfolk, they were under the tyrannical rule of the Kraken Ink, they had no choice in the matter. Nightmare has never heard of a village being attacked by merfolk, just that bastard Kraken that stole his brother.

Nightmare cut the hands, which promptly pushed Nightmare away. Nightmare was a bit startled, but didn’t react with anger. He observed as the merman could tear away its own magic bonding's once it had free hands. How it moved to try and cover up its ribs and had an embarrassed flush to its face.

Nightmare then also remembered that merfolk could be prideful, and always wanted to look their best, no matter the circumstances. Nightmare took off his wet coat that he had worn during the storm and tossed it to the merman.

At first, the merman seemed confused but then realized it was a gesture of kindness from Nightmare. “Oh, thank you stranger.”. The merman said, confusion laced into his voice. The merman slipped the coat over it’s shoulders.

“Of course, I have nothing to gain by killing an innocent monster.”. Nightmare explained, furthering the confusion of the merman.

“You land monsters have hunted us for our scales for eternity, our blood is believed to grant immortality, and you look like a smaller version of the Kraken.”. The merman explained.

Nightmare understood the mentality, he did have magic masses that could loke like tentacles to an untrained eye. He had also personally seen merchants in his youth get rich by selling scales that had washed up on the beach.

“I may look like an octopus, but I assure you, your king and I are great enemies. Ink stole my brother Dream to be his bride so many years ago, and I hope to murder that Kraken in cold blood.”. Nightmare said.

“Dream is your brother, huh, I do see a resemblance. Dream has been helping efforts to aid our rebellion, but I was found out.”. The merman explained.

The mention of a rebellion, gave Nightmare a thought. If he could coordinate with Dream, perhaps they could successfully overwhelm the Kraken. Also if they had the help of merfolk, they could pull the ship out of the sand.

Nightmare decided to propose an alliance, “My name’s Nightmare, could my crew and I aid in your rebellion to bring down the Kraken?”. Nightmare walked closer, then knelled down and held out his hand for a handshake.

Nightmare was met with a smile, “Name’s Error, your brother has said how much he misses you, I’m sure you can help out.”. Error confidently shook Nightmare’s hand.

An alliance between the Captain Nightmare, and the head of the merfolk rebellion leader Error, to work together to bring down the King of Merfolk, the Kraken Ink.
