He was born of a high family and she was an anomaly. The next head of the Titan family and she was to be married to him. Their love was true unlike the many arranged marriages that tainted his bloodline. It was a gift that her powers would blossom under his touch. Whispers told of being able to ignite another’s powers but it had been done before. But here she was before him in the ceremonial dress with the star on her forehead matching the faint blue of her eyes.
“Do you take Azure of the Desun clan to be your beloved?” Were the words that made him smile widely.
“I do.”
It was supposed to be the highest honor for Azure to join his family. To take on the role of his beloved and take his family's name Titan. But as the months went on dread began to fill her. Soft words no longer flowed from her lips into his ears. Nothing came at all. The distance grew until the issue was discovered.
A child was in her womb, growing powerful as the days went on.
The woman knew about the child’s abilities before the child was even born. A child of dual paths that would be doomed to the fate of suppression or death.
“My love, I apologize for my silence. I only worry about the fate of the child.”
It was the first words spoken for weeks. He listened deeply as her words were the only thing he ever understood. Guilt welled up as he released her hesitation from his family’s reputation. A curse left his lips as his hands cradled her face.
“Never apologize to me. We will help our darling child, any means necessary.”
Azure caved to his sweet voice and the gentleness of his fingers. A smile that had been hidden reappeared on her lips. The worry still wound tight in her chest but her love for him could undo the tangles.
“My Korons, you promise our daughter will be saved from her fate?”
“The promise I made to you all those months ago, still holds strong today. I will protect you and our baby even if it means death.”
Months turned into years as they waited for the baby to be born. The day finally came after three years of the baby developing. A soft cry was the first sound the baby made. A girl as her mother had predicted so early on. It wasn’t the only one that was correct.
Stars decorated her temples and forehead, matching her mother and father both. The midwives gave no indication of the dread that settled deep in their bones. A child of this nature was not supposed to be born. Someone doomed a life of misery before a short death took them.
The suckling daughter was none the wiser to her own fate. The others knew, they all knew.
She grew up in a posh life, even if she would never remember the early days. A name was given but her ears could not hear them. The world was more interesting than the sobs her parents shared on late nights. The sounds of the minds around her, words and objects she did not know. It was how she learned faster than those around her. An object would shift if she wanted. A toy would manage its way to the side of her basset with no help.
The worry of her fate was put on pause as the first people came. They looked similar to the ones that resided already. But they were from the skies, yet offered gifts unseen for eons. Technology that allowed for them to reach the suns and moons of the planets. The strangers spoke strange words but could be translated with even more devices that they carried.
They also brought weapons. They whispered of another clan that traveled the galaxies. The clan was a mix of races but they did not like the one that brought gifts. They left and we kept their offerings. The planet was in debt to the strangers and repaid with their allegiance.
It wasn’t but a month when the others followed. Beings that looked too different from the ones around. It was how they knew it was the enemy but did not attack. The new people brought gifts as well and offered protection from any evil that would come. They were brought down by magic but also by ship.
Azure knew of the happening that occurred in her home. Even if her beloved tried to keep it away from the home, he wasn’t successful. Curiosity took over the woman’s mind and she sought out these beings for herself.
“Hello ma’am,” Captain Garett spoke into the translator. The alien language was spoken through the device. What he assumed to be a female, smiled at the common language.
She replied in her tongue with a tilt to her head. It was translated into English in seconds. “Are you the beings that come from the skies?”
Garett gave a nod and a chuckle, “We sure are, are you in need of the aid we bring?”
“You bring help?” Even the translator could pick up on her uncertainty.
“Yes ma’am, we offer any time of help you need.” Garrett hummed in reply. His gaze drifted over the woman. She was very well dressed for the culture he was picking up. Her attire matched that of the council he had met with the day before.
Something in the woman’s eyes shifted as she listened to the device’s words. As if she had an idea that she couldn’t yet share. “Do not leave, I will come next day.”
With that Azure disappeared back into the walls that kept her safe. An idea brewed in her mind that she knew would change the course of her daughter’s fate. It was shared that night with her beloved who approved. The only way to keep their daughter safe.
“Captain! We must return to the ship, the Romulans are coming!” A Lieutenant shouted in panic. The rest of the crew looked around and began to pack. Garret cursed under his breath and sent the orders to leave.
He had noticed the odd fabrics in a crate but said nothing. The only thing on his mind was getting off the planet and light years away from the neutral zone. The shuttles lifted off and quickly returned to the starship. There was no time to unload as everyone got into position for warp.
Only when they were safe did they begin to unload. A poor ensign discovered the child and was the one to report it. The child was from the planet they had just fled and would probably never be able to visit again.
A small child with large purple eyes and strange markings not found on the others they had given aid too. The only choice was to send her back to Command and hope they could send her to a colony to be raised.
