Mikaela never dreamed of the day he'd be scared of the simple noise of a clock ticking. Yet here he was, sitting on his bed with his hands pressed to his ears, shaking. Terrified.
His breathing was uneven and loud to the point where it almost drowned out the torturous noise, but it didn't. When did he become like this? Being able to be traumatized easily with a clock?
He'd never know since he had not heard one in years prior.
One thing he did know, however, is that with every tock of it, he'd think of his precious Yuichirou leaving him. Whether it be by fighting in battle, by age, or by just him saying he didn't want a monster like Mika around anymore, the blond didn't want to imagine any of it.
"Shut up shut up shut up," he mumbled over and over to himself and the voice inside his head endlessly. It taunted him of way he'd be left alone by the only one he cared for truly. Yuu's "friends" weren't really friends in his eyes. They were just a bothersome tearing him and his childhood friend apart; he couldn't see it any other way.
He needed to end the noise somehow or Mika might wake up him in the other room. The walls were like paper thin to him so they'd be the same for Yuu due to the damned demon.
Speaking of the goddamn devil, a few faint knocks was what the blond's vampiric ears picked up. He hastily tried to fix himself up and make it look like he was sleeping. However, he only got halfway through putting himself under the covers when Yuu opened the door carefully.
"Mika?" he called out and stared dumbly at him in his eyes. His crimson eyes filled to the brim with tears, threatening to spill over. In a flash, before the blond could come up with some fake excuse the other would definitely see through, Yuu was right next to him, panicking and questioning.
"M-Mika? What happened? Are you alright? No of course not- did something hurt you?!" he almost yelled.
"Y-y-yuu... chan..." he whimpered out, in defeat. He told himself he wouldn't cry anymore in front of the raven haired teen... That was out the window now. He looked away as the tears finally flowed down his face, making it burn with their trails.
"Mika, answer me! What happened?!" he continued to practically screech as he got closer and closer to the blond, putting his hands firmly on Mika's shoulders.
He couldn't bare the noise anymore; it ringing in his ears loudly. As his brain felt like it shut off its functionality, he leaned forward, hugging Yuu tight. He buried his face into his neck too, overwhelmed by the terrible thoughts that were consuming him.
"Y-Yuu-c-chan..." he shakily breathed out.
The slightly shorter teen tensed a bit before relaxing and hugging him back, running one of his hands up and down the blond's back.
"Mika..." he softly, yet also slightly harsh, spoke, "What's wrong? Stop holding it all in. You're important to me you know that?!"
The other teen felt like he could only sob as the ticking noise turned faint but still there. He didn't want to lose to time. His mind was screaming at him to go home.
But where's home?
"Mika... come on... you can't stay quiet forever."
"Y-Yuu-chan..." he started muttering, getting a soft hum in response, before nuzzling Yuu, "... h-home..."
The raven haired one was sort of shocked and dumbfounded at his family's reply. Did he just call me... Home?
After a few more moments of the blond crying into his neck, he pulled back all the way and wiped his face rid of tears. Though it didn't feel any less hot.
"S-sorry..." he mumbled.
"It's fine. Could... Could you tell me what happened?"
"... the noise... I-I-..." he tried to force out more
"Noise?" Yuu questioned.
"The clock- it reminds me of-"
"What clock?"
Mika's mind stopped. What?
"T-t-there's a clock, it keeps ticking, and it reminds me of... losing you..."
"Mika... W-while I understand why you're crying... There's no working clock in this building. Are you okay?"
He felt like his world was crumbling. No clock? What? He definitely heard it! It's out in the hall right?
His breathing started getting erratic again, eyes wide open as he stared back at a worried Yuu.
"M-Mika, what's going on?!"
He placed his hand on his faintly beating heart (it doesn't beat fast anymore though it does) and started to take deep breathes like he was taught when he was younger. He stopped he entirely and listened.
There was no clock.
His mind had played a horrific trick on him.
"There's no clock..."
"There is no clock, Mika..." Yuu mimicked before asking, "Do you want me to stay with you?"
The blond paused before nodding slightly, and moving over to allow room for another. He laid down when his childhood friend did and softly closed his eyes as he curled up to him, snuggling.
"I love you..." where the last few words he heard from the person he considered home that night.
