Chapter Text

With a flick of the switch, the microphone crackles to life.

"Testing, testing, one-two, one-two, and a one and a two...♪"

A certain person fiddles with the soundboard controls for a moment before giving a satisfactory nod, pulling his legs up onto his office chair and cradling the mic in his lap as he shoves a pair of headphones over his unruly violet hair.

"Good evening, Tamasaka!" he shouts suddenly. "And welcome to 'Tales from the Tamasaka Crypt,' a special broadcast that I, the great Neji Kokuto of Univeil's Quartz, will grace your refined ears with for the rest of the month.

"That's right! In the spirit of Halloween, I will be regaling you with only the finest of never before heard tales from our very own Tamasaka. Tales of yesterday, of today, and maybe even tales of tomorrow. I've got spooky stories, silly romps, and truly enigmatic mysteries aplenty, but where shall we begin? Let's see..."

He mimes shuffling through an array of papers, even down to the sound effect, then lets out an exaggerated "aha!" of epiphany.

After jabbing a button on the soundboard, soft but eerie piano music begins to play. He brings the mic close before dropping his voice lower, taking on the cadence of a practiced narrator.

"Tonight, we start with a whisper of a rumor of an incident said to have taken place just on the other side of Mount Oodate... "

Beneath a bank of clouds wreathed in moonlight, two figures dance in tandem at a lake's edge.

The girl is slight, delicate in her movements, but powerful as she spins and leaps.

The boy dancing at her side is no less powerful, no less soft.

The two are mirror images of each other, not just in movement, but in appearance.

Now, they circle each other, amber eyes meeting.

A gentle smile is matched with another.

Now, they step towards one another, cherry blossom-pink hair fluttering in the wind.

He reaches for her hand, only for his own to fade away into the ripples that now line the lake's surface.

What stares back at her now is not a face so like her own, but instead the reflection of the full moon as it peeks out from behind the clouds.

The girl smiles again -- this time, bittersweet.

Taking the hem of her imaginary dress in hand, she curtsies to the beautiful harvest moon as it floats upon the waters.

They say if you head out on the night of the full moon, you'll be able to see her. But be careful! If you're a day late, the moon might steal you away instead.
