Work Text:
Lying there, in the dark glow of the fire, listening to Piper’s soft snores, Jason’s steady breathing, Leo’s mind drifted.
It was weird, the predicament that they were in. In all honesty, Leo wasn’t totally sure that he had accepted the whole ‘demi-god’ thing just yet.
Sure, he knew he was different, always had been. Intense ADHD, orphan, runaway, and his-
His ability.
Curling further in on himself, his back to where Jason and Piper sat only a few feet away, he pulled his hands up toward his face, inspecting them carefully. That familiar sting in his heart that came with the memory of his mother. Of her death.
It had been years. Why couldn’t he get over it?
Because it was his fault.
He thought about the prophecy. Not the one they were following on this quest, but the big one.
‘Seven half-bloods shall answer the call,
To storm or fire, the world must fall,
An oath to keep with a final breath,
And foes bear arms at the doors of death’
It sounded terrifying.
He wasn’t sure what it meant by ‘storm,’ but if he was really one of the seven, if this prophecy truly included him, then surely only he could be what it meant by ‘fire.’
‘To storm or fire, the world must fall.’
To storm or to Leo.
The world must fall.
Leo’s world fell when he lost his mother.
When he killed her.
He exhaled shakily, squeezing his eyes shut. He froze when he heard Jason or Piper shift behind him.
The warmth of the fire felt artificial at his back.
He couldn’t be the reason why the world ended, he just couldn’t.
Was he truly a part of something as big as that prophecy?
Leo sighed, tucking his head closer, under his arms. There was no use thinking like that right now. First he had to get through this quest.
Hopefully they’d make it out alive.
