Scar let his mind wander as he was pulled along by the ball of chaotic energy that was Grian, blindfold over his eyes making his mind sway in such a way that he was now glad not to have motion sickness. The shorter man had practically ambushed him as he was finishing up with his base for the day – or, well, night, he supposed – rambling something about a surprise and needing to meet up with Mumbo soon, or else they’ll be late.
Scar wasn’t exactly paying attention in what he was saying, too wrapped up in the adorable excited glint in his eyes, or maybe it was the endearing way he was bouncing around with so much excess energy in his body. Whatever it was, it distracted the elf from what the avian was saying – which may have actually been a good thing, knowing how bad the other was at not spoiling a surprise if it was something he was this excited about.
“Grian, love, calm down before you yank his arm out of its socket.” The oh so familiar amused chuckle brought Scar out of his daze of thoughts. He could almost hear the pout in Grian’s voice when he responded.
“I am calm!” He complained, a little too energetically for his words to be even remotely true. “And I’m not gonna pull his arm out of its socket! I’m not pulling him that hard!”
Mumbo chuckled again, the sound of his footsteps in the grass were the only indication to Scar that he was approaching. Mere seconds later, gentle hands came up and pulled the blindfold carefully from around Scar’s eyes, smoothing his hair down where it had become ruffled and messy. “Hello, darling. I hope our lovely little bird didn’t spoil anything for you?”
Ignoring the indignant ‘Hey!’ from the bird in question, Scar just smiled softly “To be honest, I wouldn’t know if he did or not,” His soft smile shifted into a mischievous smirk. “I was a bit distracted from being ambushed in my own home.”
Mumbo sighed in exasperation, turning to look at where Grian was now glaring over at Scar in mock offence. “I didn’t ambush you! I cannot believe you’re spreading such lies! And about your own husband no less!” He placed one hand on his chest, over his heart and the back of his other hand over his forehead, dramatically leaning back as if he were about to faint. Scar and Mumbo giggled long since used to their lover’s dramatics and antics.
“Am I ever gonna get an explanation for what exactly we’re doing out here?” Scar glanced back and forth between the two. They both turned to smirk at each other before looking back at Scar who cowered back ever so slightly.
“Oh, you are in for a treat, darling.” Mumbo grinned. Scar wasn’t given any chance to respond, or ask for more information before he was dragged along again. Instead of fighting, the elf merely allowed himself to be pulled along to wherever their final destination was.
No more than five minutes later, the elf, avian and human all came to a stop in a small clearing of a forest.
The clearing had clearly been decorated, and it looked absolutely beautiful. There were lanterns scattered about strategically, flowers and vines and all sorts of other plants covering the soft green grass and crawling up the trees, luscious red apples hanging from the oak branches, nestled between the leaves. In the middle of the clearing, though, sat a very soft looking blanket with a picnic set out on it.
Scar gaped at the scene before him. For a long moment, there was silence as he admired his surroundings. Scar didn’t know what to say, but he came up with something as fast, having felt Grian and Mumbo’s anxiety behind him. “It’s beautiful! I- you- is this all for me?!”
Scar turned to look at them, adoration and shock riddled all over his face. Grian was bouncy on the balls of his feet, an excited beam on his face, and Mumbo was gazing at him affectionately. “Of course! You’re our husband! And it’s your birthday tomorrow, but we couldn’t wait, so we decided to celebrate tonight! Besides the rest of the server will want to celebrate with you, and we wanted to have a small party for just the three of us. So this was the outcome!”
Scar looked around the wonderfully decorated clearing once more, still absolutely mesmerised. Grian stepped forward, taking a hold of his wrist once more, pulling him–much more gently this time, mind you–toward the small picnic, Mumbo following close behind.
The three husbands certainly had a fun time on their small outing, the moonlight shining down on them from above only adding its beauty to the peaceful moment. The flora and fauna of the surrounding forest produced a natural music of sorts, the music disc that Mumbo later put on only seemed to amplify it.
A few hours, dances, and many flower crowns made of honeysuckle, red and white roses – each with the thorns removed, of course – violets, and many other flowers, Grian, Scar and Mumbo headed back to Scar’s tree to settle down and get some sleep before the sun rose fully above the horizon.
It was a night as beautiful as any, that just so happened to hold better memories than most.
