Chapter 1: An Invitation to the Star Festival
Chapter Text
The sun is about to set upon the Mushroom Kingdom.
At a small cottage not far from the kingdom’s town lives two brothers who work as plumbers for both the Mushroom Kingdom and their own world. They are the Mario Bros., Mario and Luigi.
Mario is the eldest of the brothers but he is also the smallest. His signature color is red as he wears a red shirt with blue overalls and he also wears a red hat that has a white circle with a red ‘M’ on it.
Mario is brave and reckless. Whenever there is trouble at the Mushroom Kingdom, he will always be there to protect it.
Mario’s brother, Luigi, is the youngest, even though he is technically bigger than his brother. His signature color is green as he wears a green shirt with dark blue overalls and a green hat that has a white circle with a green ‘L’ on it.
Unlike his brother, Luigi is more timid than brave. He is always known as Mario’s sidekick whenever there is an adventure.
Mario looks out of the cottage window, watching the sun go down from the sky. “It’s-a almost nighttime, Luigi,” he said to his brother, who was getting ready to cook dinner. “It’s been a while since Princess Peach has called us.”
“She’s probably busy doing stuff at the kingdom,” Luigi replied. “After all, she IS the princess.”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right,” Mario seldomly said as he moved away from the window and approached the dinner table. “But, still… I miss going on dates with her. She would always bake me cake and stuff.”
“She does the same to me, too,” Luigi admitted. “Well, sometimes.”
“Don’t you ever get food from Daisy?” Mario asked.
“Yeah,” Luigi answered. “She would bring all kinds of exotic food that came from her kingdom of Sarasaland. You know that it’s a desert kingdom, right?”
“Duh!” Mario answered. “I was there, remember? I saved Daisy from that alien, Tatanga, and after that, I introduced her to you so that I can get back to Peach.”
“Oh, yeah,” Luigi said as he remembered. “I appreciate you introducing me to her. Who knew that she is more interested in timid guys like me?”
“What are the odds?” Added Mario.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!
“Someone’s at the door,” Luigi said after the knocking was heard. “Could you get that-a, Mario?”
Mario nodded and he answered the door. On the other side of the door is a small man with a red and white mushroom on his head.
The little man is Toad, who happens to be one of the local people living at the Mushroom Kingdom. Toad is wearing a blue vest, and he, like all other Toads, has black beads for eyes.
“Hi there, Mario!”
Toad greeted.
“Hey, Toad,” Mario responded. “What’s up?”
“Princess Peach has sent me to give you guys this message,” Toad answered as he handed a pink envelope to Mario.
“Hey, Luigi!” Mario called to his brother. “We got a letter from the princess! Come here!”
Luigi does as he was told and he approached where Mario and Toad are. When Luigi arrived at the scene, Mario opened the pink envelope and brought out a single, white paper that has writing on it.
“Dear Mario and Luigi… I’ll be waiting for you two at the castle on the night of the Star Festival. There’s something that I would like to give you, Mario, so come quickly! From Peach.”
“Oooh!” Mario reacted. “Look at that-a! It’s an invitation from Princess Peach!”
“Indeed, it is,” added Luigi. “Hey-a, Toad, what exactly is this Star Festival?”
“The Star Festival,” answered Toad, “is a special event held here at the Mushroom Kingdom. It happens once every hundred years! Once every hundred years, a bright, blue comet would appear in the sky over the Mushroom Kingdom. One year, the comet was so large that it filled the sky and sent countless shooting stars raining down. We Toads would always bring the shooting stars to the castle, where they became a great Power Star. This year should be a very happy time for us!”
“Once every hundred years, huh?” Mario asked. “Then I guess it would be a first for me and Luigi.”
“That’s right!” Toad replied gaily.” Princess Peach is so excited for this festival, and she wants you two to come over and share this experience with her!”
“Okey-dokey!” Mario answered happily. “We’ll be right over!”
“Excellent!” Toad replied. “Oh, and Luigi, Princess Daisy is at the castle, too. She’s excited to reunite with you!”
“YAY!” Luigi celebrated the fact that Daisy has come over to the Mushroom Kingdom from Sarasaland to visit for the Star Festival.
“Let’s-a go!” Mario declared, and the brothers followed Toad out of the cottage and they hurried over to the Mushroom Kingdom.
It didn’t take the three long to get over to the kingdom, which happened to be located on the other side of a long hill. They reached the kingdom as they climbed down the hill.
They entered town, and they already started to see little stars flying down from the sky. The brothers looked at the stars in wonder.
“Toad, what are those stars?” Luigi asked
“Those are Star Bits,” Toad answered. “They are fragments of even bigger stars. They can be used to replenish your health and used as projectiles to stun enemies. Feel free to collect some!”
Mario and Luigi did just that. They collected as much Star Bits as they possibly could.
While collecting Star Bits, the Mario Brothers followed Toad throughout the town. Their main aim is to get to the castle so they can meet up with Princesses Peach and Daisy.
The three boys continued traveling down the path to the castle. Along the way, however, Luigi looked to the horizon and he spotted something very odd.
“Hey, guys!” He called Mario and Toad. “Look-a over there!”
Mario and Toad looked to where Luigi was looking at, and they gasped and widened their eyes as they spotted a plethora of flying pirate ships approaching the Mushroom Kingdom.
“Oh, no!” Mario cried. “Bowser!”
Chapter 2: Bowser Captures Peach... Again!
Chapter Text
The pirate ships that have flags that bore Bowser’s insignia started firing cannonballs at the town to cause chaos throughout the Mushroom Kingdom. This is what Bowser normally does whenever he invades the Mushroom Kingdom.
For the longest time, Bowser, the king of the Koopas and the Dark Lands, had always invaded the Mushroom Kingdom to capture Princess Peach and force her to marry him. Every time he tried that, Mario and Luigi would always interfere and foil his plans and send him back to the Dark Lands to come up with another sinister plan.
Now, Bowser has concocted an even more sinister plan, one that he hoped will prevent the Mario brothers from intervening and finally gets his prized princess. He ordered his flagship to descend toward Peach’s castle, to which it did immediately.
Princess Peach is already on her balcony, watching Bowser’s flagship descend towards her castle. She is a blonde princess with a beautiful, elegant pink dress.
Princess Peach held a star-like creature in her arms. The creature is called a luma, or a child of the stars.
Once the flagship reached the balcony, Bowser appeared on the ship’s bow and he started calling out to the Mushroom Princess.
“Princess Peach!” The Koopa King said loudly, his voice was like a roar. “You are cordially invited to witness the birth… of my new GALAXY!”
Princess Peach is being guarded by a couple of Toad guards and an elder Toad named Toadsworth, who is Peach’s most trusted advisor. “New galaxy?” Toadsworth said questioningly. “What on Earth are you talking about?”
“SILENCE, YOU LITTLE, OLD FART!” Snapped Bowser. “I have no need for your squabbling!” He turned to his minions. “Remove him from my sights!”
The minions obliged their master’s orders and they used a crane to pick Toadsworth up from the balcony and they flung him away from the balcony, much to Peach’s horror. When Toadsworth was dealt with, Bowser continued speaking.
“This Star Festival is now over!” He yelled. “The birth of my new galaxy will commence now! Gwa ha ha ha ha!!!”
And with that, Bowser did something that everyone thought to be impossible. He concentrated a new display a power noone has ever seen before; he charged up blue lightning and moments later, the dark clouds that were once forming over the Mushroom Kingdom had suddenly been swept away and a new shadow formed over the kingdom.
The new shadow is a dark UFO of some sorts and it started glowing red circles. The UFO could mean that a new enemy has joined forces with Bowser.
Peach gasped in total shock and horror as she stared at the shadowy UFO. She pondered whether it is Tatanga back for revenge or a new space enemy no one has ever encountered. What she knows for sure is that her kingdom is now facing a new threat, and it is going to be harder than it was before.
Meanwhile, back at the town, Mario and Luigi stared at the strange, dark UFO. Toad stood alongside the brothers, staring at the UFO as well.
“Could Tatanga be back?!” Toad asked in fright.
“I don’t know,” Mario answered. “I’ve never seen a spaceship like that before!”
“Well, whatever it is,” Luigi added, “it seems to be joining forces with Bowser and now they are after Princess Peach!”
“Come on!” Mario declared to Luigi and Toad. “We gotta get to the castle and save her!”
“Right!”
“Oh, I hope Daisy is out of danger!” Said Luigi with worry.
Mario, Luigi and Toad immediately race out of the town and they are aiming to get to Peach’s castle to protect her from Bowser and his new space ally. When they got to a hill, they ran into Toadsworth, who was recovering from when he got thrown from the balcony by the huge crane on Bowser’s flagship.
“Master Toadsworth!” Toad cried. “Are you alright?!”
“Just a minor flesh wound,” Toadsworth replied, shaking off the pain. “But we gotta get back to the castle! Bowser’s after the princess… again!”
“No kidding!” Mario replied. “Let’s-a go!”
Mario, Luigi and the two Toads raced up the hill and when they’ve got to the top, they have spotted Peach frozen in horror on her balcony. On her balcony, Peach’s horrified gaze suddenly turned down and she spotted the Mario brothers and the Toads.
Peach gasped. “MARIO, HELP ME!”
Mario could hear his name being called by the princess. “Hang on, Princess Peach, I’ll save you!”
On his flagship, Bowser heard Peach’s call to MariToads racing up toward the castle. “Hmmph!” He harrumphed. “It’s those blasted plumber brothers again!” He turned to his right-hand man, Kamek, or Magikoopa. “Put them out of the way!”
“Yes, Sire!” Kamek obeyed, and he used his broomstick to fly out of the flagship and up to the sky, getting ready to ambush the Mario brothers.
Once Kamek was out of sight, Bowser ordered his minions and the dark UFO to commence the next phase of his sinister plot. Obeying the Koopa King, the UFO concentrated power on the red circles, which would later turn green, and then they shot beams of light on the ground surrounding the castle.
The beams of light were hot enough to burn through the ground, and they made one big circle around the castle. Mario, Luigi and the Toads barely passed through the beams of light, and they stopped marching to observe what the beams were doing.
After the beams were reduced to nothing, Bowser’s flagship, along with several other floating pirate ships descended to the ground and they dropped down hook-like anchors on chains to the ground, and they punctured through the dirt. Many moments later, the pirate ships started floating upwards and, with all of their might, lifted the castle off of the ground and they started carrying it up to the sky.
Peach and the others are abhorred at what Bowser is doing. The Koopa King is raising the castle with them to outer space.
Mario and Luigi panicked as they got closer to outer space. “Oh, no!” Cried Luigi. “We’re going to space! We’ll freeze!”
“No, we’re not!” Toadsworth calmed the green plumber. “Space here is nothing like the space at your dimension. We’ll be fine.”
Once everything reached outer space, Toadsworth theory was correct as everything did NOT freeze. Mario and Luigi sighed in total relief.
The brothers’ relief was later vanquished when they heard Peach calling out to them.
“MAAAARIOOOO!!!”
Mario gasped. “Princess Peach! Hang on, I’m coming!”
Suddenly, Kamek got in Mario’s path blocking him from the entrance of the castle.
“Kamek!” Mario snarled. “Get out of the way!”
On the balcony, the door behind Peach and her Toad guards suddenly flew open. After that, a girl wearing a yellow dress came out in a hurry; it was Princess Daisy, Peach’s best friend.
“Hey, what’s going on here?!” She asked.
Bowser noticed Daisy and he gasped in horror. “That girl!” He said to his minions, pointing at Daisy. “Get rid of her now!”
The minions obliged their master’s wishes, and they used the crane to pick Daisy up from the balcony floor, and they flung her off toward where the brothers are standing.
‘AHHHHH!!!” Daisy screamed.
“Daisy!” Luigi screamed, and he raced to catch his girlfriend with pure determination.
In a swift stroke, Luigi catched Daisy, and he held her bridal style. Toad and Toadsworth cheered as Luigi caught the Sarasaland princess.
“Oh, Luigi!” Daisy cried gaily.
“Daisy, are you alright?” Luigi asked his girlfriend.
“I am, thanks to you!” Daisy replied happily, and she gave him a smooch on the lips.
“Awww!” Kamek teased. “How quaint… The scaredy-cat plumber and the fiercest princess in the galaxy together, and–”
“KAMEK, STOP YOUR BLABBERING AND REMOVE THESE PATHETIC BUMS FROM MY SIGHTS!!!” Bowser angrily demanded.
“Yes, Sire!” Kamek obeyed. He then turned to the group of heroes, charging up magic in his wand. “So long! Have a nice flight!”
And with that, Kamek fired magic from his wand and it landed on the bridge where Mario, Luigi, Daisy and the Toads are standing on. Once the magic hit the bridge, the bridge broke apart and the heroes were sent flying down outer space, screaming their heads off.
Bowser and his minions, including Kamek, laughed their heads off in an evil triumph.
Peach gasped in horror, and she screamed. “MAAAAARIOOOOOO!!!”
Suddenly, the entire castle and the fleet of pirate ships disappeared in a blue light. After that, it turned into a star, and it zoomed deep into space.
Could this mean that Bowser has finally succeeded in his plot?
Chapter 3: Rosalina, Princess of the Cosmos
Chapter Text
Blackness…
Mario’s vision was nothing but pure blackness for the longest time. Another few moments later, Mario could hear the laughter of a child.
Stirring awake after listening to the laughter of the child, Mario struggled to open his eyes. He groaned in exhaustion and pain before he wasd finally able to open his eyes.
As he opened his eyes, Mario found himself in a strange place, a beautiful, grassy meadow surrounded by the night sky. He stood up to look at his surroundings, which turned out to be strange.
Mario found himself standing on a small planet he knows nothing about. As he takes in the information of his whereabouts, he desperately started calling out to his friends to see if they are there, or he was all alone.
“Luigi! Daisy! Toad! Toadsworth! Where are-a you guys?!”
“Mario!”
Mario heard Luigi’s voice, and he followed it to where the others were. The red-cladded plumber is relieved to see his twin brother and his friends alive and well.
“Oh, thank goodness!” Mario sighed in relief. “You guys are okay?”
“Yes, we are physically okay,” Daisy replied, “but i’m not sure if we should be psychologically okay right now.” She looked around the surroundings, finding it all strange. “I mean, what on earth is this place? It’s so… small.”
“Could this be another planet?” Toadsworth asked, mainly to himself, but it was loud enough for the others to hear.
“What do you mean?” Mario asked for clarification.
“Well, let us not forget that Bowser and that strange UFO pulled the castle out of the ground and ascended it up to space, taking us along with it,” Toadsworth explained. And that was before Bowser had us banished from the castle, and sent us flying through space.”
“Yeah, I do remember that,” Luigi responded. “I also remember that when we were up in space, we did not freeze to death.”
“That’s because space in this dimension is different compared to the outer space in your own dimension,” Toadsworth explained again.
“That actually…” Mario began before shaking his head, “...doesn’t make any sense at all.”
Toadsworth sighed in annoyance. “Forget it. Look, we need to get our bearings and see if we can get out of this rock.”
Before more can be said and done, however, something appeared before them. It’s a star creature, the same creature that Peach was holding when her kingdom was under attack by Bowser and his mysterious UFO ally.
“So, you’re all awake!” Cried the star creature. “Wanna play?”
“Who the heck are you?!” Luigi gasped.
“Don’t worry,” Toadsworth soothed Luigi. “That’s a luma, a creature living in outer space. Peach was holding one of them during the festival before we got attacked.”
“Why, hello there!” Daisy said to the luma. “Can you tell us where we are?”
“Play with me, and I’ll take you to someone who will tell you everything,” answered the luma before changing into a rabbit.
When the luma turned into a rabbit, it started running around the planet, confusing the group. They all looked at each other, and shrugged, deciding to play along.
The group chased the rabbit until they reached a pad of wildflowers. There they are joined by two more rabbits, but their ears are yellow compared to luma’s ears, which are as white as the snow.
“Let’s play hide-and-seek!” Said the white rabbit. “If you catch us, we’ll take you to my friend, who’ll tell you everything there is to know about this place.”
Mario and Luigi groaned. They fear that this could take longer than expected.
“Alright, here we go!” Cried the white bunny, and then it started hopping away with the two yellow rabbits.
The group chased after the rabbits until the little critters started hopping in a fast pace, losing them. Mario and Luigi got tired while chasing the rabbits, but Daisy refused to give up.
Thinking quickly, Daisy quickly leaped toward an area of long grass, and she was able to get one of the yellow rabbits. The rabbit groaned.
“You got me! Should’ve hid in the crater!”
Mario got an idea after hearing what the rabbit said. He’d later found a crater in the middle of the field and he jumped down it. He ended up getting out of another crater, and out came the other yellow rabbit with it.
Seconds later, Mario caught the second rabbit, and the creature groaned. “Rats! You got me! Should’ve hidden in the green pipe.”
“Green pipe?!” Luigi repeated. “Oh, I know that one, I know that one!”
Luigi looked around in a frenzy and he eventually spotted a green pipe similar to the ones people use back at the Mushroom Kingdom. Luigi quickly went down the pipe and found himself climbing up another pipe, taking the white rabbit along with him.
“I got it! I got it!” Luigi cheered.
“Yay!” Cried the rest of the group.
“Wow!” Luma said, turning back into its original star form. “You managed to get all three of us.”
The two yellow-eared rabbits joined the white star, and eventually turned into yellow luma stars themselves. The group reacted in awe.
“Hmmm,” hummed the white star. “Maybe you guys have what it takes to help Mama…”
“Mama?” Daisy repeated. “Who’s Mama?”
“My Mama,” the white luma repeated. “Here, I’ll take you to her!”
The three lumas concentrated their power, and they made a small castle appear. At the top of the castle lies a strange, blue glow.
“Follow me!” Said the white luma, and it floated toward the castle.
The group followed the white luma to the castle and they started climbing it until they reached the top. There they spotted something so magnificent, they reacted in awe.
What the group stared at was a woman wearing a cyan-colored dress. The woman is a bleach-blonde with eyes similar to Princess Peach’s. She is also carrying a wand on her hand, which made the group realize that she has magic abilities.
“Hello there,” greeted the cyan-cladded woman. “I’ve been watching you from here. Perhaps you all are wondering where you are.”
The group didn’t answer her. They are still mystified at how glowing the woman looked.
“This place is called… the gateway to the starry sky,” continued the cyan-cladded woman. “My name is Rosalina, Princess of the Cosmos. My job is to watch over and protect the cosmos. I know of your plight, and I know that your friend has been taken by an evil tyrant who wants to reign the cosmos and make your friend his queen.”
“We have-a got to stop him!” Said Mario with determination. “Could you help us find Bowser, Princess Rosalina?”
“To save your special one,” Rosalina answered, “you’ll need the power to travel through space and chart through various planets in order to find clues of the whereabouts of the evil tyrant. Luma!”
The white luma appeared, giggling in the process. It’s the same one that played hide-and-seek with the group.
“Luma can give you this power,” Rosalina said to Mario and his friends. “I will entrust you all with his care.”
Luma suddenly glowed brightly, and it zoomed toward the group, going through each and everyone’s chest. When it was done, the group felt a power they haven’t felt before.
“Wow!” Mario exclaimed, feeling like a million bucks. “This feels good! Now we can go save Peach!”
“Wa-hoo!” Luigi cheered, and Daisy and the TOads cheered with laughter.
“Yes,” Rosalina added. “But there is one thing I must ask you to do while you journey through space.”
“What’s-a that?” Asked Luigi.
“The evil tyrant struck us just as it did to you,” Rosalina explained. “He stole the Grand Stars and is planning to use them to create his evil space empire. With Luma’s help, I hope that you guys can rescue those Grand Stars, stop the evil tyrant and save the galaxy… I am counting on you. Farewell.”
And with that, Rosalina floated upwards, and seconds later, she vanished in thin air, mystifying the group even more; they are now alone with Luma, the white luma that played hide-and-seek with them earlier.
Chapter 4: The First Grand Star
Chapter Text
Once Mario, Luigi and their friends are alone with the white luma, called Luma, they consider their options.
“Okay,” Mario began, “so all we have to do is traverse throughout the galaxy and rescue these Grand Stars and rescue Peach from Bowser… Not a problem!”
“There is one problem for me,” Luigi quickly replied. “How do we get out of here?”
“Well, for starters,” Toadsworth answered, “we have to rely on Luma here to help us with space travel.”
“Right!” Mario obliged, and he turned to Luma. “So, what’s the deal, Luma? How do we use space travel?”
“Before we do that,” Luma spoke, “let’s get the hang of the new powers Mama has given you. Try spinning things that look breakable, like this green glass behind me.”
Mario and the gang looked behind Luma and spotted a big amount of green glass. Understanding what he needs to do, Mario approached the glass and he used his spin attack to break it.
After breaking the glass, a huge orange star suddenly appeared out of nowhere, surprising the entire group. “Whoa!” They all reacted.
“This is a launch star,” said Luma. “When you’re near one of those, use your spin attack on it and it’ll shoot you through space like a comet! Oh, before you do, allow me to give you a useful tip: You can also use the spin attack to stun enemies. Very useful in battle.”
“Got it!” Mario replied. “Thanks, Luma!”
“Now let’s go travel the universe!” Suggested Luma. “There are plenty of galaxies for us to explore! We need to explore every galaxy possible to find the Grand Stars and save them from that evil turtle tyrant and use them to save Princess Peach!”
“Well, what are we waiting for?!” Mario asked his gang. “Let’s-a go!”
“Yeah!” Chanted the others, and together, they used their spin attack on the giant, orange star and the star reacted.
The orange star picked up the entire gang and it shot them throughout outer space. They all screamed as they flew through outer space until they eventually landed on a nearby planet.
When they recovered from landing at the new planet, they are already encountered by another Luma. “Hello!” It said, “Good to see you! I have some bad news, though. You see, I HAD a launch star all ready for you, but a meteor came and smashed it up!”
“Awww!” Reacted the group.
“But don’t worry,” continued the luma. “All you have to do is to gather star chips in order to repair it, and then, you’ll be able to leave this planet. Oh, and be sure not to fall in the black hole!”
The group took the luma’s advice grandly, and they carefully traversed throughout the planet, looking for the star chips. The star chips look like triangles with a circle on the top of it.
The group collected five chips, which is enough to repair the launch star, and then when it was repaired, the group used it to be launched to a new planet. The planet was gold and it looked futuristic.
The group looked around the futuristic, golden planet and they discovered a luma being trapped in a glass jar. They approached the imprisoned luma, and they heard it screaming for help.
“Get me out of here!” Cried the luma. “One of those enemies should have a key!”
The enemies the luma was talking about turned out to be Goombas, Bowser’s most common henchmen. The Goombas are brown, mushroom-like monsters with small eyes and really large eyebrows that always make them look angry.
“Remember to use your spin attack to stun those dreaded enemies,” reminded the luma, “and when they’re stunned, just run into them and you’ll instantly kick them out of the planet!”
“Thanks for the tip!” Said Mario, and he and the others charged at the group of Goombas and attacked them with the spin attack and kicking them out of the planet.
When the Goombas were kicked out of the planet, a bunch of coins and a key fell to the golden ground. Daisy picked up the key, and she used it to set the luma free.
“Thank you so much!” Said the luma. “Now, could you be friends and help rescue my buddy in that next planet over there?”
Daisy and the others looked at the planet the luma was looking at, and they nodded their heads. “We’ll need a launch star,” said Daisy.
“Not a problem,” replied the luma. “I’ll transform into a sling star. Just jump into me after I… TRANSFORM!!!”
And with that, the luma turned into a sling star, which is golden compared to the orange launch star. Once the sling star was set, the gang jumped into it and they were slinged to the nearby planet.
Once Mario and his group landed on the nearby planet, they looked around for Goombas and they defeated them to acquire the key to set the luma free from its glass prison. Unfortunately, they eliminated all of the small Goombas and they couldn’t find the key.
Eventually, the group found, to their horror, a humongous Goomba, which is large enough to deflect their attacks and damage them. “Well, now what do we do?!” Luigi asked, after the group tried everything to eliminate the giant Goomba with no success.
“Use the spin attack on that glass prism next to you!” Cried the imprisoned luma.
Understanding what the luma was talking about, Daisy let out a karate yell before punching one of the maroon-colored glass prisms, and the prism let out a shockwave that suddenly stunned the giant Goomba. When the Goomba was stunned, Luigi quickly rushed it and kicked it out of the planet, forcing it to drop the key.
Luigi picked up the key, and he used it to free the luma.
“Thank you!” Said the luma. “Follow me! I want to take you inside this golden planet! There’s a Grand Star inside!”
Mario and the others wasted no time as they followed the luma to a green pipe, which led them inside the golden planet’s core. Inside the core is the Grand Star, which is imprisoned in a glas jar, and machinery is draining its energy.
“Oh, my gosh!” Cried Toad as he and the others watched the Grand Star losing its power to the machinery. “What’s happening to it?!”
“Those awful Goombas are using the Grand Star to power this planet, which happens to be an awful machine made by either Bowser or his UFO ally. It looks like it’s making… something.”
“What do you think it is making?” Luigi asked.
“Who cares?!” Toadsworth snapped. “We have to shut this thing down and grab that Grand Star!”
“Toadsworth is right!” Mario added, and he turned to the luma. “How do we turn it off?”
“I saw those Goombas activating the machine by pressing those yellow buttons, which started out as blue buttons, before I got locked up,” answered the luma. “Try pushing those buttons back to its blue color.”
“Got it!” Mario responded, and he turned to Toad. “Toad, you and Toadsworth deal with the buttons, while Luigi, Daisy and myself deal with the Goombas protecting them, okay?”
“Okey-Dokey, Mario!” Toad obliged.
Mario, Luigi and Daisy battled the Goombas while Toad and Toadsworth focused on the yellow buttons. There were several buttons surrounding the Grand Star, and there were others around the whole core.
Toadsworth focused on the buttons around the core while Toad started pushing the buttons surrounding the Grand Star. All of the buttons turned blue, and the machine turned itself off; after that the glass around the Grand Star disappeared.
Toad made his way to the Grand Star, acquiring it with his hands. “I’ve got it!” He cheered. “I’ve got the star!”
Everyone cheered, especially Mario, Luigi and Daisy after they got rid of the Goombas.
Chapter 5: The Comet Observatory
Notes:
Two chapters in one day! Enjoy!
Chapter Text
The group, along with the luma and the Grand Star, exited the core and they suddenly floated around space, and they eventually landed on a nearby planet which is not controlled by Bowser and his minions. After landing on the planet, the group watched as the Grand Star zoomed toward the planet’s center, on a small sphere.
Seconds later, the sphere turned bright orange and it grew a little bigger than normal. After that, the entire planet lit up. At first, the planet looked dark, but after the Grand Star zoomed to the center sphere, the planet lit up into a bright planet that has grassy meadows and houses and such.
The group approached the center sphere and they looked at it, reacting in awe. Moments later, they become surprised as they noticed Rosalina appearing beside them.
Floating next to Rosalina is a black luma. “The beacon is lit again!” It cried. “It shines weakly, maybe only as bright as a Class 6 star, but at least the Lumas will survive now.”
“Wait,” Luigi suddenly voiced out. “You mean the Lumas were dying?”
“Yes,” answered the black luma, glancing at Luigi and the rest of the group. “But not to worry, thanks to you guys, one of the Grand Stars have been recovered and turned the observatory back on!”
Rosalina turned to the group with a smile on her face. “Thank you for rescuing that Grand Star,” she said warmly. “Anyway, welcome to the Comet Observatory. It’s my home to myself and the Lumas. They are family, and they mean so much to me, so thank you for restoring this place and bringing hope back to my family.”
Mario blushed. “Shucks, it was nothing,” he said.
Daisy elbowed Mario. “May I remind you that Peach is your girlfriend, and not her?”
Mario quickly shook off his blush and he apologized to Daisy.
After that, Daisy turned to Rosalina. “So, what’s the deal? What does that twisted Bowser want with these Grand Stars?”
Rosalina paused for a moment before she started to explain. “Let me tell you a story about myself. You see… Me and my family, the lumas, travel the starry skies. We pass this area once every one hundred years.”
“Oh!” Exclaimed Toad. “So, you guys are the comet we keep seeing every hundred years?! The one we celebrate the Star Festival with?!”
“That’s right,” Rosalina answered. “Anyway, as we were coming toward your planet, we suddenly stopped because something went wrong. A strange force had latched on to our ship, pulling away our star bits and our power source, the Power Stars.”
“I wonder if Bowser had something to do with this,” said Daisy after listening to Rosalina’s statement.
“You mean the fire-breathing turtle tyrant?” Asked Rosalina. “Yes, it was him that stopped our ship. He then stole our stars after he learned that they could help him cross the universe, and it was because of what he did, our ship went into a deep hibernation state in which it could not move.”
“I see,” Mario replied. “And then, after that, he came down to the Mushroom Kingdom and he picked up the castle, kidnapping Princess Peach in the process!”
“He must be planning to use the Power Stars to create his new empire and make Peach his queen!” Daisy added.
There was a tense silence following Daisy’s statement. Everyone, including Rosalina and some of the Lumas felt lonesome.
Rosalina then turned to Mario and his group. “Please, I have a request…”
“Name it,” Mario quickly replied.
“This observatory uses Star Power to project images of the galaxies that are scattered across space,” explained Rosalina. “And… there is a chance we can use our few remaining stars to look for the other Power Stars.”
Rosalina then pointed her wand at one of the houses, which are shaped as grassy domes. The group followed the wand’s direction and they spotted the domed-house.
“These round rooms, called domes, are used to observe galaxies,” continued Rosalina. “The only one working now, powered by the Star Power you restored, is this one… the Terrace.”
“So, I’m guessing that you want us to go to this ‘Terrace’ place?” Asked Luigi.
“Yes,” Rosalina answered instantly. “While at the Terrace, you must recover the Power Stars from the galaxies you can see there.”
“And once those Power Stars have been restored,” added the black Luma, "its powers should restore the Comet Observatory’s ability to fly like a starship. Then, and ONLY then, perhaps we can pursue the thieves who ran off with our stars and retrieve them back… and Princess Peach, of course.”
“Okay, then,” Mario declared. “I’m in! Let’s-a go, gang!”
“YEAH!” Agreed Luigi, Daisy and Toad.
“Now, hold on a minute,” said Toadsworth. “I think you guys can do well without me. You see, pressing those buttons have cricked my spine and I’m afraid that if I don’t rest now, I’ll paralyze myself. I think I’ll stay here and rest.”
“Well, I’m not staying and rest!” Daisy declared. “I want to help and restore this observatory! I have to save my best friend… and give that blasted Koopa King a piece of my fist!”
“Ha!” Laughed Luigi. “That’s my girlfriend!”
Mario smiled, and he turned back to Rosalina. “Don’t worry, Princess Rosalina, we will restore this observatory and make it fly again. That way, we’ll work together to save Peach and the universe!”
Rosalina smiled warmly. “Thank you! Go forth and may the stars protect you on your journey!”
Mario nodded, and he led Luigi, Daisy and Toad to the domed-house called Terrace.
Chapter 6: The Terrace and the Dino Piranha
Chapter Text
Mario, Luigi, Daisy and Toad entered the Terrace and they were followed by Rosalina’s black luma, which has shining, blue, dotted eyes. “Welcome!” It said. “This dome acts as an eye of the observatory. From here, we can gaze upon galaxies, and that is exactly what you need to do in order to find the needed Power Stars to restore this observatory to life.”
As The black Luma started explaining things to the four heroic individuals, a blue luma appeared before them. As the blue luma appeared, the black luma glanced to it, and started introducing it to the group.
“This here is a special type of luma,” the black luma explained. “Once it transforms itself into a Pull Star, he will guide you to those faraway galaxies, so that you can start collecting those Power Stars.”
“Okey-Dokey,” Mario replied, and he waited for the blue luma to turn into a pull star.
Once the blue luma turned ito pull star, Mario touched it and then, he and the others were pulled into it. They then saw a vision of a universe that has several galaxies; the black luma suddenly appeared on the vision.
“These are the galaxies that can be observed from the Terrace,” the black luma said. “Do you see those numbers on the galaxies?” The group nodded. “They represent the distance from the observatory. The bigger the number, the greeted the distance.”
“Will that be a problem?” Luigi asked the luma.
“Not really,” answered the black luma. “The more Power Stars you find and collect, the farther you’ll be able to travel.”
“Right,” Daisy responded, “so we need to start at the galaxy that’s closest to us. And that happens to be the galaxy that has the number one on it. Click on it, Mario!”
Mario obliged and he clicked on the galaxy. It transformed into one that looks like a plain, grassy meadow that has a house on it.
“That’s the Good Egg Galaxy,” said the black luma. “That’s a great place to start looking for some Power Stars. Be careful, though… I can feel a lot of bad senses from that galaxy, which means that there’ll be enemies at that place. Well, good luck!”
“Thanks!” The group said simultaneously, and Mario clicked on the Good Egg Galaxy to start the adventure.
When Mario clicked the galaxy, the pull star instantly launched the group toward the galaxy. As soon as they landed on the galaxy they started looking around for some Power Stars, but so far, there was none to be found.
So the group started walking around, and Luigi gasped as he spotted something. “Guys, look! He cried. “That egg up there!”
The others looked at where Luigi was pointing at, which happens to be a giant egg on a nest. Mario narrowed his eye, fiddling with his mustache.
“What about it?” The red-cladded plumber asked his brother.
“I’ll bet that the Power Star is in that egg,” Luigi explained. “It’s huge than anything on this galaxy. Let’s-a go check it out!”
The group agreed with Luigi and they followed him around from planet to planet, killing enemies that got in their way. There were Goombas and there were also blue enemies that had a glowing yellow top; these enemies are called Octoombas.
Luckily, the Octoombas can be easily beaten by the magical powers Rosalina’s Luma gave to the group. The group continued their path, and they were forced to deal with another new monster called Slurples, enemies that stick on you and suck out your life force, just like a tick sticking on a human being and sucking their blood.
The group defeated the Slurples and they also defeated a Piuranha Plant which left out a small vine that led the group to another planet on the galaxy. After that the group continued their quest, walking around from planet to planet, defeating enemies, collecting coins and star bits.
They eventually reached the egg on the nest after climbing on a vine left out by an even bigger piranha plant, which was punched by Mario to lunge itself toward the piranha plant. When the group landed on the eeg, it started to crack, and out came a vine-like tail with a big rock at the end.
Mario punched the rock on the tail, sending it flying, but because it was attached to the egg, the rock came back to the egg and immediately broke apart the shell. Underneath the egg shell was a huge piranha plant that has the body of a dinosaur.
“Whoa!” Daisy cried. “I’ve never seen a Piranha Plant like that before!”
“Me neither!” Luigi added.
“Whatever,” Mario brushed it off. “It’s all the same!”
Mario waited for the Dino Piranha to charge at him, and when it did, he dodged it, and he punched the rock on the tail again to make it go at the enemy’s head, damaging it. The Dino Piranha got even madder and it tried to charge Mario, forcing him to run away.
“I’m-a coming, Mario!” Luigi cried, and he charged behind the Dino Piranha and he bravely punched the rock on the tail to make it go to the Dino Piranha head.
When the rock impacted the dino’s head, the enemy let out a loud, painful screech and it fell down before it exploded into purple smoke. When the enemy blew up in smoke, a Power Star emerged from it.
Luigi immediately picked up the Power Star. “Hooray!” He cheered. “I got it! I got a Power Star!”
Daisy rushed toward her boyfriend, giving him a big hug. “Oh, Luigi!” She cried. “You were so brave!”
After saying what she needed to say, she locked her lips with Luigi’s, making him blush beet red all over his face. Mario and Toad witnessed the tender moment and they giggled to each other.
“Alright,” Mario then said. “Let’s stop the drama and continue looking for more Power Stars!”
“Right!” Toad agreed. “Let’s herald back to the Terrace and see if we can advance to more places in the Good Egg Galaxy.”
And with that, the group returned to the Terrace.
Chapter 7: King Kaliente and the Hungry Luma
Chapter Text
As the group returned to the Terrace, they presented the Power Star they collected from Dino Piranha.
“Well done!” Said the black luma. “You’ve got a Power Star. I see you’ve also been collecting Star Bits. Those happen to be the Lumas’ most tastiest, delectable treats imaginable. You can use them against enemies or feed them to hungry lumas. Here, try me!”
Mario fed the black luma some Star Bits and it sparkled blue. This action wowed the group.
“Wow!” Luigi reacted.
“Awesome!” Daisy followed.
“Mmm!” The black luma hummed positively. “That’s the ticket! Thank you! Anyway, you don’t have enough stars to reach the galaxy that has the number ‘3’ on it. You’ll have to collect at least one more Power Star in order to travel to the next galaxy.”
“Okey-Dokey,” Mario said. “Not a problem.”
Mario grabbed the blue pull star and then, he and his group were pulled into the star and it sent them back to the Good Egg Galaxy. As soon as they reached the Good Egg Galaxy, another pull star appeared before the group.
“Hello there,” said the pull star. “I’m glad that you are here. If you are here for Power Stars, I must tell you that there are two more of them here in Good Egg Galaxy. In order to get to one of them, you will have to help my friend, who is dying of hunger and needs about a hundred star bits in order to transform into a planet.”
“And that new planet will lead us to the Power Star, right?” Toad asked.
“Right,” answered the blue luma. “And as for the other Power Star, it is on the verge of being taken by King Kaliente and his battle fleet. In order to get to the battle fleet, you will have to use that sling star up on that roof.”
The blue luma pointed at the orange star at the top of the house that is in front of the group. Understanding the gist of the situation, Mario nodded his head.
“Okey-Dokey!” Mario said. Leave that to us!” He turned to Luigi and Daisy. “You two go with the blue luma and help its friend while Toad and I will get the Power Star from this King Kaliente.”
“Gotcha!” Daisy replied. “Come on, Luigi!”
Daisy and Luigi followed the blue luma toward the rocky bridge that leads to another part of the planet while Mario and Toad headed for the stairs and they climbed up to the roof to activate the sling star. When Mario and Toad activated the sling star, they were launched to another planet on the Good Egg Galaxy.
The next planet that Mario and Toad landed on had a big coconut tree on it, and it had several spikey enemies. Mario launched green melons at the spikey enemies and they evaporated to smoke; one of them left behind a launch star, and the duo used it to reach another planet, which looks like a meteor of some sorts.
As Mario and Toad landed on the meteor-like planet, they noticed two big Bow Wows, black ball-like creatures that have big eyes and sharp teeth. The two avoided the Bow Wows and they came across a green pipe that led them inside the planet’s core.
Inside the core, Mario and Toad spotted a bunch of Goombas protecting a big coin. The duo made a break around the Goombas and they grabbed the coin which turned into an Invincibility Star. Mario and Toad touched the star together and they became invincible, and they ended up eliminating the Goombas and they returned to the surface to use the remaining invincible powers to destroy the giant Bow Wows.
Meanwhile, Luigi and Daisy followed the blue luma along the first planet, collecting as many star bits as they could so they could feed them to the blue luma’s friend. The blue luma led the couple to the rocky tower and he transformed into a pull star so that the couple can pull it to get to a launch star that was in the sky; moments later, the two were launched to another planet, where they started collecting as many star bits as they possibly could.
As they finally reached the luma, which is as colorful as a rainbow, it spoke to them. “I’m famished! Give me a hundred star bits and I’ll be able to transform into a new planet. You’re going to need me to turn into a planet if you are to get to the Power Star.”
The colorful luma pointed at a glass planet in the shape of a pill.
“You see that weird looking planet over there?” It asked, and was responded by ‘yes’. “In order to get to the Power Star you have to cross that pill-like planet, but to get there, you have to get through me as a planet. So… FEED ME!!!”
Luigi and Daisy obliged and they quickly fed the hungry luma about a hundred star bits, just like it wanted. When the luma reached his limit, it grew bigger and bigger.
“That’s it!” The luma said. “I’m stuffed! Okay, here we go! TRANSFORM!!!”
The luma zoomed toward another part of space and it successfully transformed into a planet, which is not far from where Luigi and Daisy are. Luigi and Daisy hopped on a launch star and they zoomed toward the new planet.
Meanwhile, after defeating the Bow Wows and the Goombas with the Invincibility Star, Mario and Toad turned back to normal and they continued their journey to find King Kaliente and his battle fleet. They used the launch star to head to another planet which is half grass and half rock.
Mario and Toad landed on the rocky part of the planet and they followed a path, avoiding electric fences, in order to get to the grassy part of the planet. The grassy part of the planet has a building that has a launch star that should send the duo to the battle fleet which hovers above the planet.
Mario and Toad had to dodge a bunch of Bullet Bills to get to the building and to the launch star. As they finally reached the launch star, they used Luma’s powers in order to activate the star and zoom over to the battle fleet.
Meanwhile, Luigi and Daisy traveled through the new planet and found another launch star that sent them to the pill-like planet. As they landed on the glass surface, they spotted a crystal and they destroyed it to get inside the planet.
Inside the pill-like planet are areas that force the individuals to travel in different ways; one was where you’d have to walk normally, and the other is where you’d have to walk upside down. Lugi and Daisy carefully trekked through the planet, eliminating Octoombas that got in the way.
Meanwhile, back at the battle fleet, Mario and Toad trekked through one of the ships and were ambushed by two giant Octoombas that shot out a bunch of green balls and some cannonballs. Mari and Toad took cover and they ran into a Toad, which has a green and white mushroom head, that was taken hostage.
“Are you alright?” Asked the red, white and blue Toad.
“Yes,” responded the other Toad. “Thanks to you! Use your special power to knock the green balls back at those alien creatures!”
“Thanks!” Replied Mario, and then he got back in sight of the two Octoombas and they shot green balls at him.
Taking the Toad hostage’s advice, Mario used Luma’s power to deflect the green balls back at the Octoombas, hitting them in the process. As soon as the Octoombas were eliminated a bridge fell and made a path for Mario and Toad to cross.
After crossing from one battleship to the other, Mario and Toad discovered a launch star on the second ship’s helm area, and they used it to launch themselves to another planet. There, they run into a yellow luma.
“Be careful!” Warned the yellow luma. “There’s a big, big danger up ahead! If you run low on health, shoot some star bits on the yellow lights to collect some coins!”
“Thanks!” Said Mario, and then he and Toad started marching up to where the danger was.
Meanwhile, after crossing the pill-like planet, Luigi and Daisy reached a metal shape of the orange star and they discovered the Power Star. Unfortunately, however, they cannot reach it.
The couple discovered that they needed to collect five blue stars in order to traverse from one point of the orange star to the other in order to get to the Power Star. When they collected the five blue stars, they all went to all five points of the orange star.
The couple pulled themselves on one blue star and they started to traverse to another. Before they could get to that blue star, they changed course to another star, and they swung toward the Power Star, grabbing it in the process; their mission was complete.
Meanwhile, Mario and Toad reached a lava pool on their planet, and out came a squid-like enemy that almost has a human face on it. It was also wearing a crown.
“I am King Kaliente!” Said the squid-like enemy. “Prepare to meet thy doom!”
“Have at thee, Your Highness!” Mario snapped back in a mocking tone.
King Kaliente began the battle by shooting cannonballs at the duo. After that, he shot green balls at them, but Mario used Luma’s power to deflect them back at Kaliente, hurting him in the process.
Fuming, King Kaliente shot out blue fireballs at them and they came alive. Some of them damaged Mario and Toad, but they were strong enough to continue the fight.
King Kaliente shot some more green balls at the duo, but Mario deflected them back at the enemy, hurting him in the process. After being hit multiple times by his own green balls, King Kaliente screamed in immense pain, and he retreated back down the lava pool.
Moments later, a Power Star appeared from the lava pool and it landed toward Mario and Toad. Toad picked it up and he cheered triumphantly.
“Woo-hoo!” Toad cheered. “We got the Power Star!”
“Wa-hooo!” Cheered Mario.
After collecting their Power Stars, Mario, Toad, Luigi and Daisy returned to the Terrace.
Chapter 8: Honeyhive Galaxy
Notes:
Personal note: I HATE BEES!
Chapter Text
The group returned to the Terrace and they handed the two Power Stars over to the black luma. The black luma was excited when they came back with the two Power Stars.
“Well done,” congratulated the black luma. “You’ve got two more Power Stars! Now, you have enough stars to reach the next galaxy. This one’s called the Honeyhive Galaxy and there is the Bee Kingdom.”
“Bee Kingdom?!” Luigi repeated alarmingly. “I’m not really comfortable with bees. I got stung by one once when I was a child and it hurt like the dickens.”
“Not a problem, sir,” replied the black luma. “These bees are friendly and the Queen of Bee Kingdom will help you with your search for the Power Stars located there.”
“Alright then,” Mario said with determination. “Let’s get going!”
Mario grabbed the pull star and he selected the new Honeyhive Galaxy. After that, the group was launched into space and they successfully zoomed toward the Honeyhive Galaxy.
As soon as they landed on the Honeyhive Galaxy, a giant bee creature approached the group. Luigi ducked behind Daisy for protection.
“There’s no need to worry, Luigi,” Daisy comforted her boyfriend. “The black luma said that these bees are friendly.”
Mario started to speak to the giant bee as it approached the group. “Hello there. Are you a resident of the Bee Kingdom?”
“I am,” answered the bee. “Welcome to Bee Kingdom. What is your business here?”
“We were sent by Rosalina, the Princess of the Cosmos,” answered Daisy. “Do you know her?”
“Of course I know her,” the bee responded. “She’s dear friends with our Queen.”
“Then you should know that Rosalina and her lumas are in trouble,” Mario replied. “An evil turtle tyrant named Bowser is stealing all of the Power Stars and he has also kidnapped my girlfriend to force her to marry him.”
“Oh, no!” Cried the bee. “That’s terrible! Well, anyway, that would explain why there are these weird goons attacking our kingdom. Now I know why they are here. You must head for the Queen’s residence and inform her of this. Here.”
The bee fished out something from his pack. It is a mushroom that’s totally different from the mushrooms that the Mushroom Kingdom residents collect. It is a black and yellow mushroom.
This mushroom will turn you into a bee and you’ll be able to buzz to where the Queen is,” said the bee. “But, be careful. There are enemies in this area. For starters, there’s those awful flowers that bite.”
“Piranha Plants,” Toad responded. “We’ve dealt with those before. That won’t be a problem.”
The group devoured pieces of the mushroom and they all became bees. They are excited to be buzzing around, even Luigi.
“Wow!” Luigi cried in excitement. “This is actually kind of fun!”
“Okey-Dokey,” Mario declared. “Let’s-a go!”
Mario led the group around the Honeyhive Galaxy, looking for the Queen’s residence. Sometimes they had to fly large gaps so that they wouldn’t fall down into the deep, black voids of space.
They reached a small area where a lily pond is. That’s where the bee that was escorting the group to the Queen’s castle provided a warning for them.
“Be careful,” the bee said. “If you touch the water, you’ll lose the power of the bee mushroom. Let’s buzz above the water and head for the lily pad. There’s a flower there that’ll take us high above where the purple blooms dwell, and there we’ll find a launch star that’ll take us to the Queen’s residence.”
Mario and the others heeded the bee’s advice, and they buzzed above the water, trying desperately to avoid touching it and risk losing the power of the bee mushroom. They reached the lily pad, and they climbed up a flower to reach purple flower blooms; after that, they were able to reach the orange launch star and they used it to zoom towards the Queen’s residence.
They landed at the very bottom of the residence and they came across a group of bees climbing up on honey-smeared walls. “Use those walls to climb up to the Queen,” advised the bee that greeted the group.
“Yuck!” Luigi reacted. “I’ll get honey all over my gloves.”
“I’m not afraid of getting dirty,” Daisy replied. “Come on, let’s just get it over with.”
“Right!” Mario obliged.
And with that, the group started to climb up the honey-smeared walls and they reached higher and higher. Eventually, they were able to reach the Queen’s residence and they landed on a lily pad before the Queen herself.
“And who might you people be?” Asked the Queen. “Physicians, perhaps?”
“No, Your Highness,” replied Daisy. “We are visitors from the Mushroom Kingdom. We are here to inform you that an evil tyrant is stealing Power Stars from Princess Rosalina and is trying to take over all of the galaxies. We are told that a Power Star is here somewhere.”
“And may I please mention that the evil tyrant has also kidnapped my girlfriend to force her to become his queen?” added Mario.
“That’s terrible!” Reacted the Queen. “I’d like to help you with that problem, but I’ve got an urgency of my own. The most furious itchiness plagues our entire being! It must be stopped at once! Find the source of the itchiness and stop it, and in return, I will provide you the Power Star you seek.”
The group hesitated for a moment before nodding their heads in agreement. After that, they buzzed at the Queen and they looked around her body to find the source of the itchiness. They gasped as they discovered five different star points located on her fuzzy body; they immediately removed the points from the body and they formed it together to make a star.
“Oh!” The Queen sighed smoothingly. “That’s much better! Thank you so much! We trust that we bees must now rely on you in the future.”
“You are most welcome,” replied Daisy. “Now, uh… the Power Star?”
“Oh, yes,” said the Queen. “Those star points you removed will form a launch star and take you to the ones who have the Power Star.”
“Thank you!” Said the group and they used the newly formed launch star to launch themselves on the top of a tree where they met a couple of Toads.
The Toads explained to the group that they escaped from Peach’s Castle and they were also able to acquire a Power Star during the escape. They eagerly handed the star to the group, and then, with the star in hand, the group immediately returned to the Terrace.
Chapter 9: Mandibugs and the Bugaboom
Chapter Text
The group immediately came back to the Terrace, and the Toads that were rescued by the group followed them to the Terrace as well. The group led the Toads to Princess Rosalina, and she introduced herself to them.
“So, you’re the princess of the cosmos,” One of the Toads said. “It’s an honor to meet the being who roams through our kingdom once every hundred years!”
“Why, thank you, my dear,” Rosalina politely replied to the Toad, who then turned to Mario.
“Again, thanks for coming after us, Mario.”
“Mario?” Rosalina said to the red-cladded plumber. “So, that’s your name?”
Mario nodded his head in confirmation.
“Hmm,” Rosalina hummed. “Mario… It has such a nice ring.”
“Why, thank you,” chuckled a blushing Mario.
Daisy cleared her throat, snapping Mario out of his blush and back to reality. After that, she turned to Rosalina. “I hope that you don’t mind watching over these Toads while we continue searching for the Power Stars we need to reach Bowser’s dominion.”
“It will be my most extreme pleasure,” Rosalina happily obliged.
“Hey, guys!” Toadsworth greeted. “I see that you have saved some of my locals. Well done!” He then turned to his fellow brethren. “Listen up… I have an idea that will get us over to Bowser’s lair and rescue our princess, but we need the Power Stars in order to pull this off. That will be the job for Mario and his crew. And as for us… we need to build a special spaceship that will be powered by the Power Stars needed to get over to Bowser’s dominion.”
“You got it, Master Toadsworth!” One of the Toads replied.
Toadsworth then turned to Mario. “Mario, we’re all in this together. Don’t forget that. You and the others will go keep collecting more stars while my brethren and I build our spaceship.”
“Okey-Dokey, Toadsworth!” Mario replied before turning to Luigi, Daisy and Toad. “Back to Honeyhive Galaxy!”
“Right!” Everybody else chanted in unison.
The group returned to the Terrace and they used the blue star to launch themselves back to the Honeyhive Galaxy. As soon as they got back to the Honeyhive Galaxy, they are in complete shock as they watch newer monsters invade the Bee Kingdom.
The new monsters are purple and flat. They are scaring away the local bees to hiding places.
“Oh, no!” Luigi cried. “The Bee Kingdom is in trouble! What do we do?!”
“The usual,” Mario replied. “Save the day!” He suddenly spotted a familiar bee. “Look, that’s the bee that led us to the Queen! Let’s-a go!”
Mario led the group to where the bee was. The bee is so delighted to see them.
“Oh, boy! Am I glad to see you guys!”
“What happened?” Daisy asked the bee.
“The whole Mandibug clan has infested our kingdom!” The bee exclaimed his answer.
“Mandibug clan?” Mario repeated the name.
“They are a group of bug monsters that are mean and violent,” explained the bee. “Once they spot you, they will charge and try to bite you. They can only be defeated by stomping them really hard with your rump.”
“Oh, I know that move!” Mario said in surprise. “We used to do that with the Gombas sometimes. Just leave it to us!”
“Thank you!” Said the bee happily. “There are two different bosses leading the clan. The first boss is located at that wooden tower over there; it’s the clan leader. And the second boss is trying to capture the Bee Queen; he is called Bugaboom.”
“Bugaboom?” Luigi repeated the name. “Sounds creepy!”
“Creepy or not,” Daisy replied, “we are going to smash it dead!”
“I’ll take care of the Bugaboom,” declared Mario. “Toad, you come with me, and Luigi, you and Daisy go to that tower and take out that clan leader.”
“Okey-Dokey, Mario!” Luigi replied.
“You got it, dude!” Daisy added.
The group split up after discussing the plan. Mario and Toad, using the Bee mushrooms to turn into bees, flew to the area that will take them to the queen while Luigi and Daisy began to climb the hill that will lead them to the wooden tower.
Whenever Luigi and Daisy get ambushed by Mandibugs, they would jump high and land on them with their rumps. The enemies were easily dealt with.
Luigi and Daisy not only had to deal with Mandibugs on the way to the tower; they also had to deal with piranha plants and caterpillar monsters called Wigglers. To defeat the Wigglers, Daisy stunned them with her punches and Luigi would finish them off by jumping on their bellies.
After eliminating their enemies, Luigi and Daisy continued their journey to the wooden tower, and they immediately climbed to the top of the tower with the help of a windmill device.
At the top of the tower, they encountered the clan leader, who is a bigger Mandibug with a smaller Mandibug on top of it, which means that the smaller one is the big one’s child.
“Oh, great,” Luigi said. “A family of bugs.”
“Who cares, Luigi?” Daisy responded callously. “Let’s take them out!”
And with that, Daisy immediately charged the Mandibugs and she hopped on top of the smaller Mandibug and defeated it with her smash attack. The bigger Mandibug changed colors quickly from its normal color to red, making it seem that it is really angry.
The bigger Mandibug charged at Daisy, only to be blocked by a brave and reckless Luigi. Luigi stood in the way of the Mandibug, taking the hit.
“NO!” Daisy shrieked.
Before she could tend to Luigi, Daisy had to deal with the big Mandibug boss. She was able to do so by bouncing on it like she did with the smaller one.
After eliminating the Mandibug clan leader, Daisy rushed to Luigi’s aid. “No, no, no!” Daisy cried. “Luigi, stay with me!”
Suddenly, something poofed from nowhere. Daisy turned to see the Power Star that came out of the Mandibug clan’s body.
Getting an idea, Daisy grabbed the Power Star and she placed it near her boyfriend’s body, hoping that its power will rejuvenate Luigi’s health. It worked.
Luigi opened his eyes and he spotted tears coming down from Daisy’s eyes. “Daisy, why are you crying?”
Daisy squealed in massive joy, and she wrapped her arms around him. “Oh, Luigi! You sacrificed yourself to save me! Thank you!”
Daisy separated herself from Luigi and she gave her boyfriend a kiss on the lips. The kiss, alone, was enough for Luigi to blush beet red all over his face.
Meanwhile, using their bee forms, Mario and Toad flew over to the tunnel that wil lead them to the Queen, and the Queen was already at the other side of the tunnel. Before they could get to her, however, they were ambushed by Mandibugs.
Mario and Toad dealt with the Mandibugs with ease. After that, the Queen approached them.
“Thank you for saving me,” said the Queen. “Those nasty neighbors of ours are causing trouble again, and they are being led by this monster called the Bugaboom! I will be grateful if you assist us in ridding this Bugaboom once and for all!”
“It will be our pleasure, Your Highness!” Toad eagerly replied.
“Excellent!” Said the Queen, happily. “Here’s a launch star that should take you to the Bugaboom!”
Mario and Toad used the launch star that the Queen made, and they were sent flying to a nearby place that has a big tree on it, surrounded by water. As they landed on the place, they walked around looking for the Bugaboom.
“I wonder… how would we recognize this-a Bugaboom?” Mario asked.
“Without difficulty, I rather fear,” Toad replied.
Moments later, the two got their wish as they were suddenly ambushed by a giant, green bug creature that almost looks like a praying mantis. This monster is the Bugaboom.
Mario and Toad started the battle by running away from the Bugaboom so they can get a headstart in order to buzz on top of the creature. The two buzzed up to the sky before Bugaboom could attack, and they landed on the creature’s back; then, they used the smash attack to damage it.
After recovering from the attack made by Mario and Toad, the Bugaboom immediately flapped its insect wings and it started buzzing around. Acting quickly, Mario rushed to a giant flower to climb it.
Climbing on the flower, Mario launched himself from the flower, landing on the Bugaboom’s back. After that, he used his smash attack to damage it.
The Bugaboom got really angry after getting damaged some more by the red-cladded plumber. The creature then started to buzz around some more, but this time, it started buzzing sideways so that it wouldn’t be smashed by Mario or Toad.
“Blast!” Cursed Mario. “How are we going to get this-a thing if it keeps-a buzzing-a sideways?!”
Toad stared at the angry Bugaboom, and then he looked around the tree, and he spotted something that could help them in their battle. Toad spotted honey squares in the bark of the tree.
“Mario, let’s buzz to those honey squares,” Toad suggested. “When the time is right, we’ll hop off the honey squares and use our smash attack to sneak attack the bug!”
“Good idea!” Mario said, agreeing to the plan. “Let’s-a go!”
Mario and Toad buzzed to the honey squares and waited for the Bugaboom to buzz around them while not sideways. Eventually, they found an opening and they quickly leapt off the honey squares. They used their smash attack to land on the Bugaboom’s back, and the damage was enough to blow it up to smoke.
Once the Bugaboom exploded to smoke, a Power Star floated out of the smoke and it landed on Mario’s hands.
“Alright!” Mario cheered.
“We got the Power Star!” Toad followed with a cheer of his own. “Hope Luigi and Princess Daisy got their Power Star.”
“We’ll find out once we get back to the Terrace,” Mario replied. “Let’s-a go!”
And so, Mario and Toad used a launch star to return to the Terrace and are relieved to find Luigi and Daisy in front of them with their Power Star. The quest continues.
Chapter 10: Sweet Sweet Galaxy and Bowser Jr.'s Megaleg
Chapter Text
Mario and his friends had successfully returned to the Terrace after collecting two more Power Stars from the Honeyhive Galaxy. They were about to head toward Rosalina to report their progress when they were suddenly approached by a rainbow-colored luma.
“Hey, you!” Said the luma. “You got any Star Bits? If I eat enough, I’ll be able to transform into something that will help you on your journey.”
“How many do you need-a?” Mario asked.
“Four hundred,” answered the luma.
“I think we’ve got enough,” Daisy replied with no hint of worry.
The group fed the luma as much Star Bits as possible. Many moments later, the luma was so full, it was about to burst.
“That’s it…” The luma said. “I’m stuffed. Here we go! TRANSFORM!!!”
The luma burned brightly into a white color and it zoomed toward outer space, getting as far away from Rosalina’s ship as possible. Later, the luma bursted and it transformed into a green and black wormhole of some sorts.
“Wow!” Reacted the group, who were soon joined by the princess of the cosmos.
“My, my!” Reacted Rosalina as she stared at the wormhole. “It seems that one of my lumas has opened a path to a new galaxy! I believe that this one is the Sweet Sweet Galaxy.”
“The Sweet Sweet Galaxy, huh?” Luigi asked. “Sounds sweet! Shall we go take a look?”
“Yeah, why not?” Daisy agreed. The others agreed, too.
Noticing a star launcher nearby, the group headed towards it and they used it to launch themselves to the new galaxy. It didn’t take the group very long to get there, and when they arrived, they are surprised to see that this new place almost looks like an ice cream sundae.
The group encountered a sign that reads: “Rocky Road”. After reading the sign, the group followed a path toward a Power Star, but they needed to avoid holes in many different shapes in order to get to the star; they even had to avoid energy beams because if they touched them, they would get shocked, burned and lose life points.
It took them a long while but the group was able to cross the Rocky Road obstacle course and they were able to collect the Power Star at the end. The Sweet Sweet Galaxy was now cleared of Power Stars.
The group returned to Rosalina’s starship, and they went back to the Terrace to find more galaxies to search. As they made it to the Terrace, the black luma had bad news for the heroes.
“We have discovered an enemy base in the region!” Cried the black luma. “We can only hope that they are not misusing the power of that poor Grand Star.”
“We better check that enemy base out!” Daisy suggested.
“Right!” Said the others eagerly.
Clinging to the blue star, they checked the universe map, and they discovered a galaxy that has a scary purple aura around it. They clicked on it and it was revealed in the shape of a familiar foe. It looked like Bowser, only younger, which means that it is none other than Bowser Jr.”
“Mamma Mia!” Cried Luigi. “That’s Bowser Jr.!”
“The sign says ‘Bowser Jr.’s Robot Reactor,” Mario added as he looked at a sign near the galaxy.
“I’m betting that this is the galaxy that has the Grand Star,” said Toad, “and Bowser Jr. is trying to acquire its power from it! We must stop him!”
“Agreed!” Said Daisy, and the brothers nodded their heads in response.
The group launched themselves to the galaxy and they found two different planets. One of them has a steel statue that is burning bright, which means that the Grand Star was there.
Unfortunately, the group landed on the opposite planet, and they had to look around to find a launch star. They already did but it was protected by a reinforced glass prison.
The group had to keep looking around the planet to find something to break the prison. Luckily, they found a device that started shooting Bomber Bills at them. The group led a Bomber Bill to the prison and it blew it up.
Now that the launch star was free from its prison, the group launched themselves from the star, and they found themselves on the planet that has the statue that burned bright like a star. When they got there, they were already ambushed by a flying pirate ship.
Inside the pirate ship was a miniature version of Bowser, who had smaller eyes compared to Bowser’s.
“Well, well, well… You made it!”
“Bowser Jr.!” Mario cried.
“Where’s your father, Junior?!” Daisy asked demandingly. “He cannot have Peach or the universe!”
“Oh, yeah?!” Bowser Jr. countered. “We’ll see about that! I won’t be needing my dad’s
help in stopping you! Go at ‘em, Megaleg! Stomp them with your Grand Star power!”
Suddenly, the steel statue started moving. This made the group realize that it is not a statue, but a robot. This robot, called Megaleg, has the Grand Star on the top, but it is protected by a glass prison.
The group climbed up to the top of Megaleg to try to free the Grand Star, avoiding Bomber Bills in the process. Before they could get to it, however, a steel cage closed around the glass prison, so the group had to lead a Bomber Bill to the cage, destroying it.
When the cage was destroyed, another one got around the glass prison. This made the group cross.
“Oh, for cryin’ out loud!” Daisy shouted. “We’ll have to lure two Bomber Bills at the same time!”
Daisy and Luigi went to one turret to lure out a Bomber Bill while Mario and Toad went to another. The group were able to lead the Bomber Bills to the cage; one blew up the cage, and the other blew up the glass prison, freeing the Grand Star.
With the Grand Star free from its prison, the Megaleg was blown to bits. After that, the group landed safely on the planet, Mario was holding the Grand Star in his hands.
The Pirate Ship hovered above the group, and Bowser Jr. (Junior) started shouting at them with his high voice. “This isn’t over! You still have a long way to go before you find my father and my future mother-in-law!”
“Princess Peach will never be your mother-in-law, Junior!” Mario declared loudly.
“We’ll see about that, plumber!”
And with that, the pirate ship Junior was controlling zoomed away and out of sight. The group was left alone.
“Come on,” Luigi said to his group. “We better return the Grand Star to Rosalina and her observatory.
“Right!” The others agreed, and the gang flew back to Rosalina’s observatory.
Chapter 11: The Color Yellow and Ray Surfing
Chapter Text
The group returned to Rosalina’s observatory and they placed the Grand Star at the burning sun-sphere at the center. The sphere, which was once orange, has turned to a darker yellow color.
Elsewhere on the ship, another domed house appeared and it was not far from the Terrace. Rosalina is delighted to see the second domed-house open.
“That’s the Fountain!” Rosalina cried. “It has a lot of galaxies, like the Terrace.”
“That place is also relaxing!” Added the black luma.
Rosalina then pointed at the sun-sphere. “This ball of flame represents the power of our observatory. We call it the ‘Beacon’. When you receive a Grand Star, a little Star Power will be restored, and the Beacon will grow.” She then pointed at the floor before her.
The group looked at the floor Rosalina was pointing at, and they saw six different star-shaped tiles on the floor surrounding an even bigger star-shaped tile. Only two of the little stars are lit.
“This floor represents how many Grand Stars there are and needed to burn our observatory to its full potential,” Rosalina explained as she continued pointing at the tiles. “Once all of those tiles are lit, including the bigger one, the Comet Observatory will have enough power to fly through the universe. We can even get to the center of the universe!”
“And I’m betting that Bowser’s new lair is somewhere at the center of the universe,” Mario guessed.
“We’ll never know until we get the remaining Grand Stars and get this observatory up and running,” Rosalina said. “Now run along and continue your mission. Good luck!”
Mario nodded and he led the group away from Rosalina to continue the mission. His green-cladded brother walked up beside him.
“What do you want to do now, Mario?” Luigi asked. “Do you want to check out the new Fountain or do you want to continue searching for Power Stars at the Terrace?”
“I think it’s best if we’d split up,” Toad suggested.
“I agree with Toad,” Daisy added. “We’ll cover more ground if we do that.”
“Alright, then,” Mario said, agreeing with Toad’s suggestion. “Luigi, you and Daisy go to the Terrace and finish things up there. Toad and I will check out the new Fountain.”
“Okey-Dokey!” Luigi replied, and he turned to his girlfriend. “Come on, Daisy. Let’s go!”
“Oh, yeah!” Daisy cheered.
The two went inside the Terrace as Mario and Toad hurried over to the Fountain. At the Terrace, Luigi and Daisy discovered two more galaxies that haven’t been checked yet; they tried one of them and they landed on a big platform that is all covered blue.
The couple discovered a sign that reads: “Color the platform yellow, and you will get your prize.”
Understanding the instructions clearly, Luigi and Daisy went to work in coloring the platform yellow. All they had to do was step on a blue tile to turn it yellow, but they also had to watch out for certain booby traps, such as electric lines and an alarm system spewing out heavy force fields.
The couple was able to dodge the booby traps, and they successfully covered the platform yellow by stepping on the blue tiles to turn them yellow. After that, a Power Star came out, and the couple collected it.
After the color platform, the couple went to the second unidentified galaxy and they discovered that they are now on a surfing galaxy run by penguins. As they landed on the galaxy, one of the penguins approached them and greeted them warmly.
“Hello, welcome to Loopdeloop Galaxy,” said the penguin. “It’s penguin paradise! This is where we do our favorite hobby: ray surfing!”
“Ray surfing?” Luigi repeated questioningly.
“Around here, we surf on rays,” explained the penguin. “I’m serious. We call it ray surfing!”
“That sounds like a whole heap of fun!” Daisy said excitedly. “Will itr be okay if we tried it?”
“Of course!” Replied the penguin eagerly, and then he pointed to an even bigger penguin standing on a platform next to water. “Just talk to the coach! He’ll tell you what to do!”
“Thank you!” Daisy said gratefully, and she grabbed Luigi by the hand. “Come on, Luigi! We gotta try this out!”
Luigi sighed nervously. “I hope it’s not dangerous,” he said under his breath.
Daisy dragged Luigi to the platform where the big, black penguin stood, and the energetic princess of Sarasaland greeted “Hello! Can we try ray surfing?”
“Are you guys surfers?”
“Yes, we are!” Daisy answered quickly before Luigi could open his mouth. “I come from Sarasaland, and they have beautiful oases that create surfs by machines. I used to practice on them all the time!”
“How sweet!” Said the cheery penguin coach. “Well, just so you know, ray surfing is different than regular surfing. You have to surf on these rays here.”
The coach pointed at a purple devil ray creature floating on the water next to where the three individuals are standing. Luigi studied the ray carefully and noticed its pointy tail.
“Hope they’re not dangerous,” Luigi said. “I read that Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter, was killed by a ray by being stabbed by its barb.”
“I don’t know any ‘Steve Irwin’,” admitted the penguin coach. “But I can assure you that these rays are friendly.”
“Come on, Luigi,” pleaded Daisy. “It’ll be fun!”
Luigi sighed heavily after one long pause. “Oh, all right…”
Daisy chuckled happily, and then she turned to the coach. “Show us how this works!”
“Well, it’s quite simple,” replied the coach. “Hop on the rays, please.”
Two rays approached the platform, and Luigi and Daisy carefully stepped onto them. Daisy balanced herself well while Luigi was struggling like crazy.
“Alrighty, then!” Said the coach. “Once you’ve got the balance working, lean your sides to the left and right in order to turn. To move forward… just lean forward! It’s that simple! Well, good luck!”
Daisy immediately leaned forward to get the ray moving, and when it did, Daisy was already having the time of her life. She surfed around the training course like a professional, but Luigi was still struggling.
“Look, sir,” the coach said to the struggling, green-cladded plumber. “You don’t have to do this if you don’t want to.”
“Thank you, sir,” Luigi replied, and he hopped back onto the platform.
Daisy was finished with the surfing and she was disappointed to find Luigi quitting. “I’m sorry, Luigi,” she said sadly. “I guess some of us have our different means of fun. Oh, but don’t worry, I still love you!”
Luigi smiled.
The penguin coach approached Daisy. “You seem to be getting the hang of ray surfing. How would you like to try a time trial? My best time was a minute and thirty seconds. If you beat that, I’ll give you a Power Star for a reward.”
“You’re on!” Daisy declared excitedly.
Daisy got to the time trial course, and she started the race as the coach gave the signal. Daisy raced the course on her ray, carefully at first, but then when she got the hang of the course, she started to speed up.
Daisy raced around the time trial course, and she was able to cross the finish line in about a minute and twenty-five seconds, five seconds faster than the coach’s time.
“Well done, Daisy!” Luigi cheered.
“Yes, you go, girl!” Added the coach. He then handed Daisy the Power Star. “Here’s your reward!”
“Thank you!” Daisy thanked the coach, and she held it up high. After that, she turned to Luigi. “Come on, Luigi, let’s get back to the observatory. Maybe we can meet up with Mario and Toad at the Fountain!”
“Right!” Luigi replied eagerly, and the couple left Loopdeloop Galaxy to head back to Rosalina’s Observatory.
Chapter 12: Space Junk Galaxy
Chapter Text
While Luigi and Daisy were getting Power Stars over at the Terrace, Mario and Toad visited the new Fountain to try to find galaxies where they can find some Power Stars. The first galaxy they visited was called the Space Junk galaxy, and there, they found a group of Toads frozen in crystals.
“Oh, no!” Cried Toad. “I can see some of my brethren frozen in those crystals! We have to help them!”
“Agreed!” Mario replied. “Maybe they know how to find the Power Star in this galaxy.”
Unfortunately, the duo had to start at a point where they are far away from where the Toads are, and they had to use blue pull stars in order to traverse around the galaxy. While doing so, they were able to collect more Power Coins and Star Bits; the group could use some more Star Bits if they were to feed more of those hungry lumas.
The duo kept on traversing throughout the Space Junk galaxy with the help of the pull star path. At last, they were able to get to the point where they found the frozen Toads; together, the duo used their luma power to break the Toads free from their crystal prisons one by one.
“Oh, thank you so much, you guys!” Cried one of the Toads.
“Are we glad to see you, Mr. Mario!” Cried another.
“Glad to help,” Mario replied. “So, do you guys know where to find the Power Star around here?”
“Hold that thought,” replied one of the Toads, and then he called out to the sky. “CAPTAIIIIN!!!”
After the Toad called out to the starry sky, a Mushroom shaped ship hovered down to where the group is. Standing on the ship is a red and white Toad wearing explorer equipment.
“Da-da-da-DAAAAAA!” Sung the captain. “Why, hello, Mr. Marioooo!”
“Hello, captain,” replied Mario. “Do you know where Toad and I can find the Power Star?”
“Yes!” Answered the captain eagerly. “There’s a shortcut up there. Just use the sling star on top of my Starshroom!”
“Gotcha, thanks!” Mario replied, and then he and Toad we’re about to climb up the Starshroom when suddenly…
“However, I must warn you,” the captain continued. “The Power Star has been broken, by Bowser’s minions, into several little power shards.”
“What?!” Mario and Toad shrieked simultaneously.
“So, that-a means that it’s useless?!”
“No, no,” the captain answered. “That’s not it at all; they can be repaired. All you have to do is collect the shards, and bring them together to fix them. It’s that simple.”
“Oh, good,” said Mario. “That-a makes-a me feel so much better. Come on, Toad. Let’s-a go.”
“Right-y tighty!” Toad exclaimed.
The duo climbed up to the top of the Starshroom and they found the sling shot they needed to get to where the power shards are. They used the sling shot and they found themselves shot to an area where there is a lot of junk everywhere.
Among the junk lies five different power shards. They look like Power Stars, only they are smaller and silver instead of the usual gold color.
“Okay, so we have to get-a those five silver stars in order to merge them together into-a one Power Star,” Mario said.
“That’s the theory,” Toad answered. “I don’t know how this works, but the captain is confident in that theory.”
“Would Toadsworth trust the captain?” Mario asked.
“Toadsworth would trust any of his subjects, and so would I,” answered Toad. “Don’t forget: we are one big family, our people.”
“Sometimes, I wish all of Mankind could be like that,” Mario softly muttered to himself. He took a deep breath before continuing. Alright, then,” he declared. “Let’s-a go.”
Mario and Toad inched up to the edge of the platform where they stood, and they are trying to figure out how this works. As they got to the edge, several of the junk merged together to make a path.
“Wow!” Mario reacted in amazement after he watched some junk merged into a path. “That’s so cool!”
“Indeed! Toad replied. “We can use this to get to the shards! Let’s go!”
Mario and Toad hopped on the path and they continued walking, watching other junk merge into paths. They used the paths in order to reach one power shard, and then, they used another path to get to another shard.
“Okay, we’ve got two so far,” Mario said. “That means there’s only three to go. I hope Luigi and Daisy are making progress.”
“I’m sure they are, Mario,” Toad reassured. “Don’t forget: those two make a great team together.”
“Yes, they do,” Mario replied. He then sighed. “I can’t stop thinking of how lonely Princess Peach must be now that-a she’s Bowser’s prisoner… again. Why do these-a things always happen to her? Why can’t that-a crazy turtle just leave her alone?!”
Toad stared at Mario with a sad pout, and he shook his head. “Bowser has always been head-over-heels with the princess. Unless he is dead, he’ll never stop until he gets his prize.”
“Princess Peach is not a prize!” Mario snapped. “She deserves better! I would never treat her like that!”
“I know you wouldn’t, Mario,” Toad replied. “That’s why Peach adores you too much. You have a good heart, not like Bowser. He is power hungry and will stop at nothing until he gets what he wants.”
“That’s-a not-a going to happen!” Mario declared. “Come on, let’s-a get the rest of the shards and merge them together. We gotta keep moving!”
Mario and Toad continued their trek across the junky path, collecting the remaining power shards. Once all of the shards had been collected, they suddenly merged together, and they have fully become one and golden.
“Alright!” Mario cheered. “We’ve got the Power Star!”
“Hooray!” Toad cheered. “Let’s hurry back to the Fountain and see if we can find some more galaxies!”
“Right!” Agreed Mario.
Using the sling star, Mario and Toad launched themselves back to outer space until they made it back to Rosalina’s Observatory. They made it back to the Fountain, and there, Luigi and Daisy were waiting for them.
Chapter 13: Kamella and Tarantox
Chapter Text
“Hey, guys!” Toad greeted Luigi and Daisy. “Did you guys get the Power Stars from the Terrace?”
“Yep!” Daisy replied. “I trust that you guys got a Power Star from one of the galaxies in this Fountain?”
“Yep,” Mario answered, “only one.”
Luigi looked at a monitor. “It seems that there are three more at where you guys just came from.”
“Really?” Mario asked, and he looked at the monitor.
The monitor reads four stars, one is golden while the others are clear and see-through. Below the three clear ones are words that read: “Kamella’s Airship Attack”. “Tarantox’s Tangled Web” and “???”
“What’s with that final one over there?” Mario asked.
“Beats me,”: Daisy replied.
“Guess we’ll find out when we get back,” Toad added. “Come on, let’s just get this done. The more stars we collect, the better.”
“Agreed,” replied the others, and they all hopped on the blue pull star and they launched themselves back to the Space Junk galaxy.
While at the Space Junk galaxy, they landed on two Starshrooms piloted by several Toad crew members. One of the captains greeted the group, and they explained their situations to them.
“Our brigades split up trying to search for more Power Stars so that we can use them to power up the observatory and get to Bowser’s lair. Mine went to Kamella’s Airship fleet over there because they were able to find a Power Star, while the yellow brigade went to get the Power Star that’s located at that weird purple and green planet over there.”
The group looked around the galaxy and they were able to spot both Kamella’s army and the strange, purple and green planet. While looking around, Mario concocted a plan.
“Alright, then,” Mario said. “Luigi, Daisy, you guys go after Kamella and ge the Power Star, Toad and I will go to that planet over there and see if we can help the yellow brigade claim that Power Star.”
“Okey-Dokey!” Luigi obliged.
“Roger-Dodger!” Daisy added.
Luigi and Daisy used a sling star in order to launch themselves to Kamella’s airship brigade. They landed on one of the ships and they started bashing Goombas, and they lowered a drawbridge in order to get to the next airship.
While in the second airship, they raided the decks below, smashing some Goombas and collecting a plethora of Star Bits. After that, they came back to the top deck and they encountered a sling star, which they used to get to the next airship.
On the third airship, they battled some Koopas and they used their shells to take out the cannons on Kamella’s flagship. As soon as the cannons were down, a drawbridge appeared, and the couple crossed it to get to the flagship; there, they were already ambushed by Kamella, a female version of Magikoopa.
“Well, well, well,” said Kamella, “if it ain’t the highly energetic Daisy and her timid boyfriend, Luigi. So, where’s Mario? I was expecting to see him here, but I guess I’ll have to take you two hostage and lure his butt over here.”
“Good luck with that, Kamella!” Daisy challenged. “Because I am raring to kick some butt myself!”
“Bring it on, you Sarasaland wench!” Kamella shouted back.
Kamella started the battle by shooting fireballs at the couple, but the two dodged them easily. After that, Kamella fired green magic at the two, and the magic turned into green Koopa shells.
Daisy picked up one of the shells and she threw it at Kamella, damaging her. Luigi picked up the other one, and he threw it at Kamella to inflict more damage on the female version of Magikoopa.
Kamella got so angry that she spiced the battle up with two mini clones of Magikoopa. They in turn started firing fireballs at the couple, forcing them to run around.
While dodging the fireballs, Luigi and Daisy charged the mini Magikoopas and they batted them away with their luma powers. After that, they were able to wiat for Kamella to shoot her green magic at them turning them into green Koopa shells, and they picked them up to throw them at Kamella, inflicting the final blows.
Kamella writhed in pain, and she retreated while the Power Star fell from her magic wand. Luigi picked up the Power Star, and then, he and Daisy cheered.
Meanwhile, Mario and Toad used blue pull stars to get across a small meteor field, collecting more than a dozen Star Bits, to reach a giant, glass planet that has a sling star inside. While on the glass planet, Mario and Toad encountered a luma that demanded a lot of Star Bits, and the two fed it 50 Star Bits in order for it to transform.
The luma transformed into a planet in the wooden shape of a Yoshi head, which is suddenly covered with Goombas. Mario and Toad zoomed at the Yoshi planet and they cleansed it from the Goombas; after that, they collected a Power Star that came from nowhere.
“Alright, we got a Power Star!” Mario cheered.
“I’m guessing this is the mystery Power Star that we saw on the monitor,” added Toad.
“Maybe it is,” Mario confirmed. “Now, come on, let’s-a go to that purple and green planet so we can find the yellow brigade and claim the Power Star.”
The duo went back to the glass planet, went inside it, and they reached the sling star, and launched themselves to the path that leads to the planet they needed to go.
While on the path, the duo had to eliminate these spider-like enemies called Spoings, known for going up and down like a spring. After that, they encountered a member of the yellow brigade trapped on a cactus-like spring made of spiderwebs.
The duo freed the crew member by flinging him off the web-spring and, after receiving advice from the member to use it to sling themselves to the purple and green planet, used the sling to get to the planet.
When they reached the planet, the rock broke apart and inside was a giant spider web with something big in the middle of it. The duo was also able to spot another crew member stuck on one of the webs, and they slinged him off the web and it crashed to the big web in the middle.
That was when a giant spider creature appeared and it roared at the duo. “Watch out!” Cried the crew member. “That’s a Tarantox! Sling yourselves on its bulbs in order to eliminate it!”
While dodging the Tarantox’s acid attacks, the duo spotted several of its bulbs around its body, but none are as big as the one bulb on it’s rear-end. Thinking quickly, Mario used one of the web-slings to fling himself at the big bulb, and it forced the Tarantox to land on its belly, revealing three red bulbs.
Seeing that those are the monster’s weak spots, Mario and Toad slinged themselves at the bulbs, destroying them and making the Tarantox writhe in immense pain. After that, the big spider creature exploded in smoke, and out came a Power Star.
“Alright!” Cheered Toad as he collected the Power Star. “We’ve got the other one!”
“Great!” Mario replied cheerfully. “Now, let’s-a get the heck out of here!”
And with that, Mario and Toad zoomed back to the Fountain, and they noticed that Luigi and Daisy were there waiting for them with their Power Star.
Chapter 14: Speedy Comet and Battlerock Galaxy
Chapter Text
“Alright,” said Mario as he and Toad rendezvoused with Luigi and Daisy back at the Fountain. “It appears that we have the stars from this galaxy. Let’s head to the next one!”
“Hold on a moment!”
The group turned to see Rosalina entering the Fountain. She has been accompanied by her black luma.
“Before you go off to the next galaxy,” said Rosalina, “you should check this out first. There’s a comet approaching the Space Junk Galaxy.”
There was a silent pause following Rosalina’s words.
“Yeah, so?” Mario asked, needing more clarification.
“These comets, these Prankster Comets, can help you on your adventure,” explained Rosalina.
These comets can be troubling in outer space,” added the luma, “but clearing these babies will help you improve your status on this adventure. There are different kinds of Prankster Comets: there are Speedy Comets, which limit the amount of time you can spend there, and there are Daredevil Comets, which make you start with low life.”
“Cosmic Comets make you race your clone,” added Rosalina, “and Fast Foe Comets make you fight monsters that are faster.”
“Okay, so which comet is heading towards the Space Junk Galaxy?” Daisy asked.
“From the looks of it,” Rosalina began to answer, “this comet is a Speedy Comet. In order to beat it, you have to complete a time limit race.”
“Okey-Dokey!” Mario said. “I can do that! I’m very good at that!”
“Yes, he is,” Luigi quickly agreed. “Let him run this race.”
“Alright, then” Rosalina declared. “Good luck, Mario, and do be careful.”
Mario smiled at Rosalina. “Don’t worry, Princess Rosalina, I will,” he promised.
Daisy snapped Mario out of his smile by clearing her throat sternly. Mario nodded understandingly and he used the Pull Star to go to the Space Junk Galaxy.
When Mario got back to the Space Junk Galaxy, he found the Speedy Comet zooming by. He can telepathically hear it saying that he needs to complete the race by racing to the place where the five star shards stand and complete the Star in four minutes and thirty seconds.
Mario started the race by using pull stars to get through some boulders. While getting past the boulders, he used Luma’s guide to collect as many Star Coins and Star Bits as possible.
Mario continued racing through the Galaxy while either avoiding or eliminating the Sproing creatures. Whenever he got hurt, he used Power Coins to replenish health.
At last, Mario got to an area where he had to rescue some Toads from their glass prisons. When he did that, the Toads thanked him and they called down one of their Starshrooms in order to get Mario where he needed to go to collect the Star shards.
Mario, with the help of the Starshroom, got to where he needed to go and he had to move forward in order to make the junk merge together and create a path to the Star shards. He was able to collect all of the shards while there was still a minute or so to go.
The Star shards merged together to create a full Power Star and Mario was able to bring it back to Rosalina’s observatory. The group welcomed back, and the black luma had some more news.
“An enemy base has been spotted in the Fountain. It’s located near a new galaxy we just discovered and you only need fifteen Power Stars.”
“Alrighty, then,” Daisy declared. “Let’s get cracking!”
“Hold on a moment,” halted the black luma. “I think you should take care of this galaxy first. The one next to the base. It’s called Battlerock Galaxy, and from the looks of it, it’s meant to protect the enemy base from us. Luckily, you guys only need twelve Power Stars to get there and you guys have fifteen.”
“Okay, then,” said Mario, concocting an idea in his head. “We’ll deal with this Battlerock, and then we will attack the enemy base. Let’s-a go!”
The group heartily agreed with their leader, and they used the pull Star to launch themselves to Battlerock Galaxy.
The group was able to reach the Galaxy by landing on a steel platform and then, they crossed through other steel platforms, avoiding steel-type enemies in order to get to the main rock of Battlerock Galaxy, which is as high as a mountain.
The group pressed a button on the steel platform that was near the Battlerock, and it started moving towards one on the other side. The group had to dodge electric fences and cannonballs in order to get to the other side safely.
While getting to the other side without being injured by the electric fences and cannonballs, the group collected some Star Coins and Star Bits and they discovered a glass prison with a Power Star on it. They have no idea on how to get the prison open.
Mario discovered two cannons on the Battlerock and out came some Bomber Bills. He gasped as he got an idea.
“Guys! Clear the area!”
The others obeyed Mario’s suggestion and they cleared the area. Mario waited for the Bomber Bills to lock on him like homing missiles, and when they did, the red-classed plumber led them to the glass prison and…
BOOM!
The Power Star was free from its prison as the Bomber Bills destroyed the prison she’ll. After that, Mario picked the star up and he and the others cheered.
“Alright!” Cheered Mario. “We got a Power Star!”
“Let’s head back to the Fountain and regroup,” Luigi suggested. “We need to come up with a plan to get inside that Battlerock. I mean, there’s a lot of cannons on the rock’s surface.”
Mario looked at Battlerock, and he realized that his brother was telling the truth. There are, indeed, a plethora of cannons on the rock’s surface.
“Okay, okay,” said Mario. “We’ll retreat for now. Let’s-a go!”
The group nodded in agreement and they used the Power Star they just collected to return to Princess Rosalina’s Observatory. They needed to come up with a plan to attack Battlerock and destroy it in order to get to the enemy base nearby.
Chapter 15: Breaking into Battlerock
Chapter Text
Back at the Fountain, the group looked over some blueprints of the Battlerock to find out how to get inside safely. They spotted a sling star that is imprisoned in glass, and they’ve also spotted some bombs that can be useful.
“Okay, I’ve got it!” Mario chirped determinedly. “We can use those bombs to break that prison and use the sling star to get around Battlerock’s defenses!”
“Agreed,” followed Toad. “I mean, it’s our only chance!”
Luigi and Daisy both nodded their heads in agreement.
“Alright then,” declared Mario. “Let’s-a go!”
The group used the blue pull star in order to launch themselves back to Battlerock Galaxy. They landed where they needed to be and then they picked up some bombs to throw at the prison that’s got the launch star.
The group threw bombs at the glass prison and the launch star was freed when the bombs exploded. After that, the group used the star to launch themselves around Battlerock, and they landed on a color planet where a yellow luma was being held prisoner in a glass cage.
The group had to get bombs from one end of the planet and use them to free the yellow luma from its prison. They had to dodge several Bow Wows that were circling the planet.
As the group freed the yellow luma, it told them that he can make a shortcut to Battlerock base without alarming its defenses. The luma also told them that one of its friends is starving and wants thirty Star Bits to transform into something that has a Power Star in it.
“Okey-Dokey!” Said Mario. “You guys use the shortcut, and I’ll feed the luma and find the Power Star.”
“Right,” Luigi replied.
“Gotcha!” Added Daisy.
Luigi, Daisy and Toad used the shortcut that was created by the yellow luma while Mario approached the famished, rainbow-colored luma. He fed the luma thirty Star Bits, and the luma transformed into a planet that is filled with garbage.
Mario used a launch star to get to the garbage planet and he encountered a robot cleaning up the garbage. The robot promised the red-cladded plumber a reward should he help it with the garbage.
Mario agreed, and he used bombs to get rid of all of the garbage on the planet. He was able to clean it all up in under forty seconds.
The robot rewarded Mario with a Power Star. Happy with this progress, Mario used the Power Star to get to Battlerock base to catch up with Luigi and the others.
Meanwhile, Luigi, Daisy and Toad used pull stars to safely cruise through a little asteroid field, and then, they got themselves into a launch star and were launched to a part of the base that has a green warp pipe on it.
Before they used the warp pipe to enter the Battlerock base, the three started collecting Star Coins and Star Bits that were all over the area. When they were finished, Mario had finally caught up to them.
“Did you get a Power Star, bro?” Luigi asked his brother.
“Yup!”
“Okay, then,” said Toad. “Let’s get inside the base and see if we can find the rest of the Power Stars and blow this place up!”
The group then entered the base by the warp pipe and inside the base is detention center that has a lone luma trapped in a crystal. The group realized that they needed to use a cannon, which is placed on the ground of the detention level, in order to free it.
The cannon was trapped, however, in a glass prison, so the group had to use a bob-omb in order to blow it up. After that, Mario used the cannon to launch himself at the crystal, and he was able to set the luma free.
“Thank you for rescuing me!” The luma said with glee. “As a reward, I will take you to a part of the base where the boss is. Oh, by the way, there is an area to the left where you can collect a Power Star. All you have to do is to launch yourself from a cannon at the star and… voila!”
“No problem!” Toad eagerly replied. “I’ll go get the Power Star. You guys go with this luma and find the boss in charge of this ridiculous base.”
“Okay!” Luigi replied.
“Okey-Dokey!” Mario added.
“Yay!” Daisy finished.
Daisy and the plumbers followed the luma outside of the base while Toad went out to the left and approached the shooting range where a Power Star resides. Toad attempted to launch himself to the star, but the problem was that there are obstacles circling around the star so much that Toad would just bonk himself onto one.
Meanwhile, Daisy and the plumbers followed the luma to where they needed to go. As they got there, the luma explained some things to them.
“The boss is called Topmaniac and he has followers called the Topman tribe. They are robotic Top-like creatures that spin around and bounce you. They captured several of my friends, and I need you to save them for me.”
“No problem!” Daisy eagerly accepted.
And with that, Daisy and the plumbers crossed some steel platforms and they also used some blue pull stars in order to cruise up to where they needed to go. After that, they used a sling star to sling themselves to a detention area where a Topman is holding a luma hostage.
With all of her might, Daisy flung the Topman to the ray shield that was holding the luma, and it was destroyed. The Topman’s destruction also caused the ray shield to go down, freeing the luma.
“Thank you so much!” Cried the luma. “Oh, sweet freedom! I’ll show you a shortcut as your reward. And… TRANSFORM!!!”
The luma transformed into a launch star, and the trio used it to soar into space. They landed on a platform that had a warp pipe on it and the warp pipe led the trio into the deep core of the base.
Meanwhile, Toad still had some problems getting the Power Star because the obstacles are moving around too fast. Toad had to carefully plan and triangulate the launch so he could pass the obstacles and get the star.
Figuring out his theory, Toad went back into the cannon, and he finally launched himself to the star without bumping into the many obstacles that were circling around at a fast pace. “Finally!” He said in relief. “Now, to catch up with the others.”
Toad used thePower Star to soar himself to space and he zoomed toward the Battlerock base.
Meanwhile, inside the base’s core, Daisy and the plumbers had to go through an obstacle course in order to delve further to the core to confront Topmaniac. They eliminated some enemies and dodged some things that could squish them to death.
After that, they made it to a chamber where a couple of Topmen were waiting for them. They eliminated the Topmen with ease and they went to a launch star to exit the chamber; as they left the chamber, it suddenly exploded.
The trio then found themselves in a saucer like platform where they had to eliminate more Topmen before they could head to where they needed to go. They finally got to an arena where Topmaniac was waiting for them; it looked like an advanced robotic, top-like creature compared to its henchmen.
The arena they are in had electric fences surrounding it like a circle. Knowing what they needed to do, the trio attempted to bounce Topmaniac, but it protected itself with sharp blades.
Realizing the plan to bounce Topmaniac to the electric fences wasn’t gonna work, the trio ran around the arena trying to find out what to do. They had to dodge its attacks.
Suddenly, Toad suddenly appeared, landing on top of Topmaniac and the landing was enough to stun it, and make the blades go away. Realizing that this is an opportunity, Daisy with all of her might punched Topmaniac to the electric fence and then it was hurled away from the arena, zooming toward Battlerock base.
BOOM!!!
As Topmaniac reached Battlerock, the entire base exploded. The group watched in immense amazement.
‘WOW!” They all reacted.
After that, a Power Star floated from the remains of Battlerock, and it landed on Mario’s palms. He and the others cheered, and they used the Power Stars they collected to return to Rosalina’s Observatory.
Chapter 16: Bowser's Star Reactor
Chapter Text
The group returned to the Observatory and they gave the black luma the Power Stars they acquired while taking care of Battlerock base. The black luma was thrilled.
“Way to go! Three Power Stars in one go! I’m impressed!”
“Why, thank you,” Daisy said thankfully to the luma, and the Mario brothers nodded their heads in agreement.
“Anyway,” continued the black luma, “you guys now have 19 Power Stars, and you have also destroyed the defense the enemy base has, so I think it is time for you to head to that base and take care of that boss. Maybe you’ll guys get another Grand Star!”
“Oh, boy!” Cried Mario. “I hope so! Let’s check the monitor!”
The group checked the monitor and they clicked on the galaxy that has the enemy base on it. It transformed into the head of Bowser, and words appear above it that reads: “Bowser’s Star Reactor”.
“Bowser’s Star Reactor?” Luigi read questioningly. “Does this mean we’ll fight Bowser?”
“I hope we do!” Daisy said with a sneer on her face. “I’d like to give that no-good, rotten turtle a good smackin’!”
Mario, Luigi and Toad looked at Daisy and smiled. They know that the last time Daisy confronted Bowser, she smacked him across the face and sent him flying to nowhere.
“Well, what are you guys waiting for?” The black luma broke the silent pause. “You better get cracking. Oh, but don’t expect that the boss could be Bowser. I mean, even HE is not that stupid to just come out of nowhere to confront you guys.”
“Right,” Mario replied, and he turned to his group. “Let’s-a go!”
The group used the pull star to ready themselves, and then, they launched themselves to the enemy base. They landed on a colorful path that leads to where they needed to go.
The group looked around the galaxy and they saw that in order to get to where the boss of the enemy base is, they needed to follow the path and avoid the obstacles that were in the way, such as flame wheels and giant, crushing boulder-like creatures called Thwomps. They immediately started their run toward the goal, and they avoided as much as they could.
The Group got past some flame wheels and Thwomps, and they were also able to collect some Star Coins and Star Bits along the way. They entered an area where gravity was out of whack; they carefully treaded through the path using the blue and pink arrows to change gravity in order to progress.
At last they made it out of the gravity area and they continued their run toward the goal. They had to avoid more flame wheels and Thwomps in order to get to the goal safely.
Mario and the gang were close to the goal, which is a big, green and white tower, when suddenly something appeared at the top of the tower. It was none other than Bowser himself.
“BOWSER!” Mario cried.
“BOWSER!” The others repeated.
Bowser did not respond to any of the heroes. Instead he started spewing fireballs at the path the group was standing, trying to make them all collapse.
The group had to hurry and rush to the tower before the pathway could collapse entirely. They were successful and now, they are ready to confront Bowser.
“Bowser!” Mario called out. “You’ve got a lot of nerve showing yourself here!”
“Yeah!” Agreed Daisy. “We all thought you wouldn’t show up here because you’d be busy trying to woo Peach, which is a waste of time, and–”
“SILENCE!” Bowser snapped. “Enough of your squabbling. Kamek, remove this feisty heathen from my sight!”
Kamek, Bowser’s second in command and a Magikoopa, zoomed toward the group in his broom and he used his want to create a black hole near Daisy.
Daisy shrieked as she felt the black hole pull her in. She was now nowhere in sight.
“DAISYYYY!!!” Luigi screamed in shock, horror and anguish.
Mario glared at Bowser. “What did you do to her, Bowser?!”
“I banished her to another base of mine in another pod of galaxies,”: Bowser explained. “Rest assured, she will not be harmed. I had to deal with her quickly because I hate having to fight her.”
“Who’d blame you?” Mario retorted. “She did smack you to another world!”
“SILENCE!!!” Bowser screamed. “Now that that’s taken care of, I’m glad that you plumbers are here. I am now ready to stomp you all to bits!”
And with that, Bowser jumped and landed on the tower so hard that Mario, Luigi and Toad was lifted off their feet and they landed on a glass sphere, which happens to be a Star Reactor that has magma in the center. The sphere has four different buttons that once pressed, magma will appear.
Bowser joined the trio on the sphere’s surface. “Let the battle begin!” He declared, and the battle is underway.
Bowser started the battle by hopping over to the trio, hoping to squish them with his heavy body. But the trio immediately ran away from him, and then they split up.
Wanting revenge, Bowser went after Mario because if Mario died, he will have a better chance to win Peach’s heart. Mario stopped at one of the sphere’s buttons, and waited for Bowser to strike, which he did; Mario dodged Bowser's body slam and the turtle accidentally pressed the button, and the magma that was released set his tail on fire.
“YOWCH!!!” Bowser shrieked in pain, and he started running rampant.
Mario caught up to Bowser and he used Luma’s power to knock him to the ground and hit him again with the same power. After that, Bowser recovered himself and he continued the fight.
Luigi and Toad saw what happened and they came up with the same plan to try to trick Bowser into pressing those buttons and setting his tail on fire. First, they had to get his attention.
“Hey, Turtle-head!” Luigi called out to Bowser, taunting him. “You want the weak one?! Come and get me!”
Bowser heard Luigi’s taunts and he attempted to crush him with his body slam, but Luigi dodged him and the turtle accidentally pressed the button and the magma set his tail on fire. While the turtle was running rampant, the trio used this opportunity to use Luma’s power to knock him down, which they did.
Bowser, unfortunately, recovered once more and he started spewing flames at them, trying to end the battle quickly. The trio had to run away from the fire-breathing turtle in order to survive.
Bowser continued using his flamethrower until he was ultimately pooped out. When he did get pooped out, he then tried to do his usual routine and stomp the trio and flatten them like pancakes.
The trio avoided Bowser’s body slams, and Mario was able to get Bowser into slamming into another button, and the turtle’s tail caught fire when the button was pressed. As Bowser run rampant to try to put the fire off his tail, the trio ran after him and they used Luma’s power to knock him down three times, and then, the turtle fell down to the tower.
The three heroes landed near Bowser as the maniacal, fire-breathing turtle started throwing a tantrum. “Why?! Why, why, WHY?! Why can’t I kill you guys?!”
“Because you are a bad guy, and we are good guys!” Toad answered.
“And good ALWAYS wins over the bad!” Added Mario.
“That’s-a right!” Luigi finished.
Bowser paused for a few, long minutes and then, he started guffawing like crazy. “Bwa ha ha ha ha! Foolish Mario and gang! You think you can stop me?! My plan is too far along now! Soon, I will obtain every bit of star power that resides on all of the galaxies and the entire universe will be mine! And best of all, I will have Peach as my queen! BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA!”
Bowser continued guffawing like crazy before he finally disappeared in a purple wormhole. The trio attempted to go after him, but the wormhole closed the second after Bowser went through.
“Blast!” Mario cursed. “Almost had him.”
Luigi then gasped. “Oh, my gosh! I forgot! Daisy! What are we going to do about her?! She’s all alone in another part of the universe!”
The green-cladded plumber then slumped to his knees and he started bawling. Mario and Toad felt sorry for Luigi.
Toad approached Luigi and placed a small hand on his shoulder to comfort him. “Don’t worry, pal! We’ll get her back. I’ll bet you anything that she’ll be the next dome on Rosalina’s Observatory.”
Luigi gasped with realization. “My God, you are right! We should head back to the observatory!”
Suddenly, one of the buttons on the Star Reactor broke apart and out came a Grand Star. The star floated down toward the trio, and then, they used it to fly themselves back to Rosalina’s Observatory.
The quest continues, but before they could confront Bowser again, and save Peach, the trio had to rescue the Sarasaland princess from her own captors.
Chapter 17: Rosalina's Bedtime Story
Chapter Text
Mario, Luigi and Toad returned to the observatory and they were able to restore the Grand Star to the core, which has turned color from orange to yellow. After that, another piece of the ship lit up as if it were resurrected.
The area that lit up almost looked like a town with two buildings. One building had kitchen utensils all over, which means that the building is a kitchen, and the other building has a sign that has a book in it, which means that the building is either a bookstore or a library.
Mario and the others looked at the area in awe. Their moment was disrupted when Princess Rosalina approached them. “Hello, boys,” she greeted. “Well done in bringing back another Grand Star and… Hey, wait a minute, where’s Princess Daisy?”
When asked where Daisy was, Luigi slumped down and began to tear up. “Bowser took her,” he sadly answered.
“Yeah,” Mario added, “Bowser was the boss in the enemy base located in the Fountain area, and when we confronted him, he captured Daisy because he knew she was a major threat to him.”
“What do you mean?” Rosalina asked.
“Once upon a time, Daisy slapped Bowser across the face, and sent him flying to another galaxy,” Toad answered.
Rosalina laughed and laughed, and so did the lumas surrounding her. Mario, Toad and even Luigi, who was down in the dumps, began to laugh.
After the laughter, Rosalina approached Luigi and gently took his hands in compassion. “Now, don’t you worry one bit, my dear Luigi,” she soothed. “We will be able to locate her with our monitor. Come, I’ll show you.”
Rosalina led Luigi and the others to the monitor and then, she turned it on to reveal a huge technical map of the entire universe. It included some of the galaxies that the group has encountered and cleared.
Eventually, Rosalina was able to spot a galaxy in the Kitchen area that has both a purple aura and an orange aura. “Now, there… I recognize that aura anywhere… I’m guessing that that galaxy is where Princess Daisy is being held captive. Unfortunately, you’ll have to collect a couple of more Power Stars if you are to go over there and save her.
“I understand,” Luigi responded. “Thank you.”
Before anyone could do anything, a loud rumbling was heard. The rumbling sound was a sound that can only be heard from the inside of a stomach.
Mario chuckled nervously because it was his stomach that was suddenly growling in hunger. “I’m-a sorry,” Mario said, feeling foolish. “It appears that-a my stomach is empty and I need something to eat.”
Rosalina giggled. “Well, it is a good thing that my kitchen has been restored by your efforts. Allow me to have my family whip you guys something. Come, come, let’s eat.”
And with that, everybody went to the kitchen area and they all sat down on a table. As they waited for food to arrive, Luigi asked Rosalina a personal question.
“Say, Princess Rosalina…” Luigi began.
“Yes?” Rosalina responded.
“Do you have a special someone?” Luigi asked. “Like how Daisy is special to me and Peach is special to my brother.”
Rosalina paused for a moment before answering Luigi’s question. “The lumas ARE my special ones. I’m afraid there is no… man… in my life.”
“Oh, I see,” Luigi replied. “So, how did you get to be a part of their lives? I mean, you do not look like you’re really born and raised here.”
Rosalina sighed. “It seems that I cannot hide secrets. Very well, I will tell you my story, but I suggest that we eat our dinner first, and I will take you to my library. The lumas could use some relaxation as they listen to my bedtime stories.”
The lumas in the kitchen suddenly gasped. “YAY! Stories!” The lumas cheered.
The group had their dinner, and then, they left the kitchen area and they headed for the library. There, Rosalina picked out a book from one of the bookshelves and she sat down on a winding rocking chair.
Mario, Luigi, Toad and some of the lumas gathered around Rosalina preparing to listen to Rosalina’s story. One of the lumas, in particular, happens to be Luma, who’s been helping Mario and the others on their quest.
“Man, this feels so nostalgic,” Mario said to his brother.
“Yes, it does,” Luigi replied. “Remember when Mama used to read us bedtime stories. I miss those days.”
“So do I,” added Mario. At least we’ll get to hear one now.”
The tender moment was disturbed when Rosalina suddenly gasped. “Oh no!”
“What’s wrong?!” Toad asked.
“Some of the pages have been torn from my book!” Cried Rosalina. “I can only read two chapters from this. I think the rest may have been scattered throughout the universe after Bowser attacked the observatory.”
There was a long, solemn pause.
Suddenly, Mario smiled. “Well, could we at least listen to those chapters?”
Luigi, Toad and the lumas looked eager and excited. They pleaded with the cosmic princess.
Rosalina finally nodded her head, and she began to read her story. The story started out like this:
“Chapter One: The Celestial Duo.”
“Our story began a very, very long time ago with a young girl with beautiful, bleach-blonde hair. One day, the girl spotted a rusty spaceship holding a small star child.”
“‘What is your name, child? Are you lost?’ The girl asked the star child.”
“‘My name is Luma, and I am waiting for my Mama. She is coming for me on a comet!’ said the star child, who had been waiting day and night.”
“‘Do not worry. I will wait with you,’ the little girl said to Luma, giving it a pinky promise.”
“Every night, the girl would borrow her father’s telescope and peer into the sky. She looked and looked, but she saw nothing. Hours turned into days, and then, days turned into years, but still the night sky revealed nothing.”
“Finally, the little girl sighed and said to Luma, ‘If we stay here looking much longer, I will be an old lady soon.’”
“But then, she had an idea.”
“‘Why don’t we go out there and find your mother ourselves?’”
“And so, the girl and Luma fixed up the rusty starship, and then, they set sail into the starry sky. This is how the search for the celestial mother began.”
“And that is the end of chapter one,” Rosalina said after she stopped reading. “Shall I start on the second chapter?”
Everyone nodded their heads eagerly. Rosalina giggled, knowing that their answer was a most definite ‘yes’.
“Chapter Two: Star Bits”
“Days passed with no sight of the comet or even a single planet. Instead, asteroids extend for as far as the eye could see.”
“‘If I had known it was going to take this long, I would have packed more jam,’ said the girl, above the rumble in her belly.”
“Before they left, the girl had packed all of her essentials: telescope, butterfly net, stuffed bunny, bread, milk, jam, and apricot-flavored tea, but…”
“‘Oh, no!’ Cried the girl. ‘I forgot to bring water!’”
“At this, luma burst into gales of laughter and the girl began to pout.”
“‘As long as I have my Star Bits, I’ll be fine,’ said Luma. ‘Want some?’”
“The Little girl couldn’t stay mad after hearing this. Luma continued to laugh, and the girl couldn’t help but join in.”
“‘Well, all right… Maybe just a nibble.’”
“Leaning far out of the ship, the pair began to collect Star Bits with the girl’s net. They almost fell out a few times, but they kept on collecting.”
The Star Bits, to the little girl, tasted like honey, and she has grown to be obsessed with them.”
“And that is the end of chapter two,” Rosalina said after finishing her reading.
No one responded because they all fell fast asleep. Even Mario, Luigi and Toad fell fast asleep.
Rosalina giggled as she reached for a lantern. “Good night,” she said and she turned off the light, rendering the whole library dark.
Chapter 18: Beach Bowl Galaxy
Chapter Text
Although the group is in outer space, it felt like morning to Mario and Luigi when they found themselves waking up at the library. They left the library and they met up with Princess Rosalina.
“Did you two sleep well?”
“Yeah, we did,” Mario answered Rosalina’s question. “Thank you. Now, we need to get a move on and get some more Power Stars so we can find that enemy base and free Daisy.”
“Couldn’t agree more,” added Luigi.
Mario and Luigi met with Toad at the Kitchen area and they glanced up at the ceiling where they found a monitor of the galaxies they are heading to in order to find Daisy’s whereabouts. They used a blue pull star and they launched themselves to the nearest galaxy, which is a tropical beach resort type galaxy called the Beach Bowl Galaxy.
At the Beach Bowl Galaxy, Mario, Luigi and Toad met up with some penguins, the same penguins Luigi met at the surfing galaxy. The penguins are delighted to see Luigi again.
“Hey, if it ain’t the shy, green dude!” Greeted the penguin coach.
Luigi felt a little uncomfortable being called a ‘shy, green dude’. “Yeah, hi,” he said flatly.
“So, what can we do for you guys?” Asked the coach. “Hey, wait… Where’s the girl? The energetic girl in the yellow dress?”
“She’s been kidnapped by some Koopas,” Toad answered.
“You mean Bowser’s group?!” The coach asked in horror, and the group nodded their heads. “Oh, no! That’s terrible! I wish there was something we can do!”
“Actually, there is!” Mario responded. “You see, we believe that Daisy has been taken prisoner at an enemy base not far from here, but we need some Power Stars to get there.”
“Oh, I see!” The coach said with excitement. “Well, you guys are in luck because there are like four Power Stars here. You can collect the first one up on the cliff, but you need a Launch Star that can be forged underwater; there are five star shards down there.”
“I’ll get that one!” Mario declared.
“Awesome!” Replied the penguin coach. You can also win a Power Star by bringing me a golden Koopa Shell from underwater, and there is also a mystery Power Star that can be obtained up there at the snowy mountain. You’ll need a launch star that can be found underneath that treasure chest. The chest needs to be opened by a Koopa shell.”
Mario forged the launch star underwater as Toad and Luigi played a little Rock, Paper, Scissors in order to decide which stars to get. Luigi lost and he was forced to get the Power Star earned by getting the golden Koopa Shell.
“Oh, man!” Luigi pouted as Toad grabbed a green Koopa Shell from the water and headed out to find the treasure chest. “I don’t even know how to swim!”
“Leave that to us!” The penguins, led by their coach, suddenly chanted in excitement.
The penguins taught Luigi the basics of swimming before the coach allowed him and the other penguins to play a game of ‘treasure hunting’. As soon as Luigi learned how to swim, he challenged the penguins in finding the golden Koopa Shell first.
They all went into the water, and they all started searching. Eventually, a lone penguin found the golden Koopa Shell and he intended to bring it to his coach. Suddenly, Luigi swam at the penguin from behind and used his spin attack to snatch the shell from the penguin.
After that, Luigi brought the shell to the coach and was awarded with the Power Star. “Oh, boy!” The green-cladded plumber cheered. “I can’t believe I swam! Wait until Daisy hears about this!”
“Ooooh!” The penguin coach reacted. “She’ll be jumping for you, buddy!”
The penguins snickered. They knew that Luigi would probably get a sweet present from the Sarasaland Princess after he and the others rescued her from one of Bowser’s bases.
Meanwhile, Mario landed on the top of the cliff and he used a time-based platform to get to the cliff’s summit. There, he discovered the Power Star and he collected it for their adventure.
Toad was able to get to the top of the snowy mountain with the aid of some duck-like creatures that are known to flip you up to the sky, and an ice flower power-up, which turns you into pure ice and turn water into ice as you touch it. Once Toad got to the ice summit, he led one of the flippers to where he needed to go and he was flipped up to the sky where he was able to snatch the Power Star that was floating in the sky.
The group rendezvoused with each other back where they started and they flashed their Power Stars at each other. Unfortunately, they are still one Power Star short of reaching the enemy base.
The penguin coach approached them and told them some comforting news. “There is still one Power Star left! It is located at the Secret Undersea Cavern! You can enter it by throwing one of those Koopa Shells at the cracked wall underwater!”
“Well, what are we waiting for?!” Mario loudly announced. “Let’s-a go!”
The trio swam underwater, and Mario picked up a Koopa shell to throw at the cracked wall. When the shell impacted with the wall, the wall went kaboom and splintered apart.
The trio went through the cave and reached the Undersea Cavern. There they were able to locate a Launch Star in the middle and they used it to sling themselves up to the sky and landed on a maze where a Power Star lies on the end.
The trio cautiously trekked through the maze, watching out for Thwomps and such in order to get to the Power Star safely. When they reached the Power Star, everyone cheered; with the four Power Stars they had collected on Beach Bowl Galaxy, Toad and the Super Mario Bros. were ready to head to the enemy base and free Daisy.
Chapter 19: Bowser Jr.'s Airship Armada
Chapter Text
Mario, Luigi and Toad have returned from the Beach Bowl Galaxy and they now have enough Power Stars to get to the enemy base dwelling in the universe in the kitchen area. As soon as they got to the observatory, they reported this success to Rosalina.
“Well done!” The cosmic princess congratulated the trio. “You can save Daisy from the evil forces now. Just be careful, okay? They can be very sneaky.”
“Gotcha!” Mario promised.
The trio looked at the monitor and they unveiled the galaxy with the purple cloud over it. It is revealed to be a base called “Bowser Junior’s Airship Armada”.
“An airship armada?!” Gasped Luigi. “My, this is going to be difficult!”
“Come on, Luigi,” Toad replied. “You’ve got to do this! For Princess Daisy!”
Luigi paused for a moment before speaking in a determined tone. “You’re right, Toad. I can do this. I’ve GOT to do this! For Daisy…”
“Then, let’s-a go!” Mario declared and he led his team to the kitchen to activate the blue pull star.
Activating the blue pull star, the trio launched themselves to the enemy base, determined to rescue the Princess of Sarasaland from enemy clutches.
The trio were able to make it to the armada, and they landed in the middle ship of the fleet. Mario looked around and he spotted a ship that had Bowser Jr.’s insignia on it.
“There!” Mario shouted. “Bowser Jr. is there, and if he is there, so is Daisy! Let’s-a go!”
Mario and the others crossed from one airship to the other. They had to battle some enemies in order to get farther; they battled Goombas, spider creatures and some of Kamek’s Magikoopa henchmen.
Sometimes, the trio would have to fire themselves out of a cannon in order to get to farther airships. When they fired themselves out of the cannons, they would latch on to blue pull stars in order for them to slow down and grab on to the airships’ flag poles to get down to the decks.
They continued hopping from airship to the other, eliminating any enemy that stands in their way. They made it to a gangplank, and they used it to sail toward Bowser Jr.’s flagship.
They arrived at the flagship and Bowser Jr. made himself known to greet them. Bowser Jr. floated up on one of his mini airship’s chuckling like a lunatic. It is revealed that the mini ship is Bowser Jr.’s true flagship.
“You guys just don’t know when to quit, do you?” Bowser Jr. asked.
“Never!” Mario quickly answered.
“Absolutely NEVER!” Toad added for good measure.
Bowser Jr. giggled some more. “Fine, then. I guess I’ll just whup you guys up myself! Do you want the Grand Star that bad?” He then reveals Daisy trapped in a cage; she is gagged and tied up. “Or perhaps you guys want this feisty princess? If the answer is yes, then you’re going to have to take them from me… IF you can!”
“We will!” Luigi bravely declared. “We will!”
“Let the battle begin!”
Bowser Jr. began the battle by firing Bomber Bills at the heroes from his airship. The heroes had to dodge them and then, they had to use Koopa shells to try to damage Junior’s flagship.
Once the mini ship was damaged once, Bowser Jr. merely shrugged it off. “You’re gonna have to do better than that!” He taunted.
That is exactly what Mario and the others did. They continued dodging Bowser Jr. 's armament, and they used the Koopa shells to damage the flagship a few more times.
Bowser Jr. got more agitated after every time the flagship got hit. Desperate to put an end to this, he turned the flagship to the front and he used a mega-cannon on the ship’s bow to try to blow the trio up to smithereens. To make it even more harder, he fired homing Bomber Bills at the heroes.
The Bomber Bills rushed toward where the group was standing, and they were forced to take cover. Unfortunately, Luigi got caught in the blast, and he screamed as one of the Bomber Bills made impact with him.
“ARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!”
“LUIGI!!!” Mario and Toad cried.
On Bowser Jr.’s mini flagship, Daisy watched in horror as Luigi took a hit from one of the Bomber Bills. She started jerking tears of horror and sadness at first, but then, her horrified face transformed into one of anger and determination.
With all her might, despite the struggling, Daisy used her power and feistyness to break free from the ropes and she used her strength to break free from the cage. After that, she cornered Bowser Jr., who stared at her in horrific disbelief.
“How?!” Bowser Jr. asked the Sarasaland princess. “How are you doing this?!”
“You forget…” Daisy began as she picked up Bowser Jr., bringing him close to her face. “I’m a one of a kind princess! One who is going to kick your little butt!”
Daisy then slammed Bowser Jr. to the ground and fished out a golf club from her bag that she secretly carries with her. After that, she aimed carefully into outer space and…
WHAM!
She slammed Bowser Jr. out of the mini flagship and sent him flying throughout outer space.
After dealing with Bowser Jr., Daisy grabbed one of the Bomber Bills and she slammed it on the flagship’s deck, making the whole thing blow up to smithereens, after she picked up the Grand Star. After that, she sailed toward the ship where the trio was and she desperately tried to find them, mainly Luigi.
At last, Daisy found the group, and was horrified to see Luigi hurt and charred. “Oh, no! Luigi!”
Luigi stirred himself awake, despite the immense pain. “D-Daisy?” He squeaked. “H-How…?”
“Shh!” Daisy shushed. “Don’t try to talk , okay?” She then turned to the other two. “Come on, we gotta bring him back to the observatory. I’ve got the Grand Star.”
Mario and Toad nodded, and they clinged on to the Grand Star, and Daisy grabbed Luigi as the Grand Star zoomed away from the leaderless armada and on its way back to the cosmic princess’ observatory. As the heroes returned to the observatory, Daisy clung to Luigi as Mario took the Grand Star and threw it to the ship’s sunny core, which turned from yellow to green and a little bit of light blue.
As the Grand Star reached the core, another dome lit up. It is a purple building that has a bed on it. This indicates that the dome is either some kind of bedroom or a motel.
Once the new dome was lit up, Rosalina approached the group, but was horrified to see Luigi banged up pretty badly. “Oh, dear! We gotta get him to the infirmary posthaste! Lumas! You know what to do!”
The lumas nodded and they used their cosmic powers to pick up Luigi and they made him float after them to the infirmary. As that happened, Daisy approached Rosalina.
“Is my Luigi going to be okay?”
“He will,” Rosalina answered. “Thanks to the Grand Star you just returned, Luigi had enough power to stay alive. My lumas will be able to use their powers to make him better again. If you want to stay with him and get yourself rested, you should follow them to the infirmary.”
Daisy nodded her head, a single tear dropped from her eye. She then ran after the lumas carrying Luigi.
Mario and Toad were left alone with Rosalina. “Good job in recovering another Grand Star,” she said.
“Thank you, Princess Rosalina,” Mario said glumly. “But I feel so helpless. I cannot believe I allowed my brother to get hurt. You just warned me to be careful with the enemy because they can be sneaky, but I didn’t really heed your advice. I feel so ashamed.”
Toad placed a comfortable hand on Mario’s shoulder. “Do not worry, Mario,” he said comfortingly. “Luigi will be fine.”
“Toad is right, Mr. Mario,” Rosalina added. “You two need to focus on finding the rest of the Grand Stars tpo power up my observatory’s engines. Thanks to the new Grand Star we recovered another dome, the bedroom, and you can use it to travel to new galaxies and locate some Power stars and the hidden enemy base there. And remember… once we get the engine working again, we can use the observatory to fly like a spaceship and get to your special one, who is held prisoner at the center of the universe.”
Mario smiled. “I know,” he said. “I will never forget that. Toad and I will get to work now. Please, look after Daisy and my brother.”
“I will,” Rosalina promised.
And with that, Mario and Toad rushed to the bedroom dome to try to find new galaxies to explore and collect more Power Stars.
