Chapter 1: An Invitation to the Star Festival

Chapter Text

The sun is about to set upon the Mushroom Kingdom.

At a small cottage not far from the kingdom’s town lives two brothers who work as plumbers for both the Mushroom Kingdom and their own world. They are the Mario Bros., Mario and Luigi.

Mario is the eldest of the brothers but he is also the smallest. His signature color is red as he wears a red shirt with blue overalls and he also wears a red hat that has a white circle with a red ‘M’ on it.

Mario is brave and reckless. Whenever there is trouble at the Mushroom Kingdom, he will always be there to protect it.

Mario’s brother, Luigi, is the youngest, even though he is technically bigger than his brother. His signature color is green as he wears a green shirt with dark blue overalls and a green hat that has a white circle with a green ‘L’ on it.

Unlike his brother, Luigi is more timid than brave. He is always known as Mario’s sidekick whenever there is an adventure.

Mario looks out of the cottage window, watching the sun go down from the sky. “It’s-a almost nighttime, Luigi,” he said to his brother, who was getting ready to cook dinner. “It’s been a while since Princess Peach has called us.”

“She’s probably busy doing stuff at the kingdom,” Luigi replied. “After all, she IS the princess.”

“Yeah, I guess you’re right,” Mario seldomly said as he moved away from the window and approached the dinner table. “But, still… I miss going on dates with her. She would always bake me cake and stuff.”

“She does the same to me, too,” Luigi admitted. “Well, sometimes.”

“Don’t you ever get food from Daisy?” Mario asked.

“Yeah,” Luigi answered. “She would bring all kinds of exotic food that came from her kingdom of Sarasaland. You know that it’s a desert kingdom, right?”

“Duh!” Mario answered. “I was there, remember? I saved Daisy from that alien, Tatanga, and after that, I introduced her to you so that I can get back to Peach.”

“Oh, yeah,” Luigi said as he remembered. “I appreciate you introducing me to her. Who knew that she is more interested in timid guys like me?”

“What are the odds?” Added Mario.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!

“Someone’s at the door,” Luigi said after the knocking was heard. “Could you get that-a, Mario?”

Mario nodded and he answered the door. On the other side of the door is a small man with a red and white mushroom on his head.

The little man is Toad, who happens to be one of the local people living at the Mushroom Kingdom. Toad is wearing a blue vest, and he, like all other Toads, has black beads for eyes.

“Hi there, Mario!”
Toad greeted.

“Hey, Toad,” Mario responded. “What’s up?”

“Princess Peach has sent me to give you guys this message,” Toad answered as he handed a pink envelope to Mario.

“Hey, Luigi!” Mario called to his brother. “We got a letter from the princess! Come here!”

Luigi does as he was told and he approached where Mario and Toad are. When Luigi arrived at the scene, Mario opened the pink envelope and brought out a single, white paper that has writing on it.

“Dear Mario and Luigi… I’ll be waiting for you two at the castle on the night of the Star Festival. There’s something that I would like to give you, Mario, so come quickly! From Peach.”

“Oooh!” Mario reacted. “Look at that-a! It’s an invitation from Princess Peach!”

“Indeed, it is,” added Luigi. “Hey-a, Toad, what exactly is this Star Festival?”

“The Star Festival,” answered Toad, “is a special event held here at the Mushroom Kingdom. It happens once every hundred years! Once every hundred years, a bright, blue comet would appear in the sky over the Mushroom Kingdom. One year, the comet was so large that it filled the sky and sent countless shooting stars raining down. We Toads would always bring the shooting stars to the castle, where they became a great Power Star. This year should be a very happy time for us!”

“Once every hundred years, huh?” Mario asked. “Then I guess it would be a first for me and Luigi.”

“That’s right!” Toad replied gaily.” Princess Peach is so excited for this festival, and she wants you two to come over and share this experience with her!”

“Okey-dokey!” Mario answered happily. “We’ll be right over!”

“Excellent!” Toad replied. “Oh, and Luigi, Princess Daisy is at the castle, too. She’s excited to reunite with you!”

“YAY!” Luigi celebrated the fact that Daisy has come over to the Mushroom Kingdom from Sarasaland to visit for the Star Festival.

“Let’s-a go!” Mario declared, and the brothers followed Toad out of the cottage and they hurried over to the Mushroom Kingdom.

It didn’t take the three long to get over to the kingdom, which happened to be located on the other side of a long hill. They reached the kingdom as they climbed down the hill.

They entered town, and they already started to see little stars flying down from the sky. The brothers looked at the stars in wonder.

“Toad, what are those stars?” Luigi asked

“Those are Star Bits,” Toad answered. “They are fragments of even bigger stars. They can be used to replenish your health and used as projectiles to stun enemies. Feel free to collect some!”

Mario and Luigi did just that. They collected as much Star Bits as they possibly could.

While collecting Star Bits, the Mario Brothers followed Toad throughout the town. Their main aim is to get to the castle so they can meet up with Princesses Peach and Daisy.

The three boys continued traveling down the path to the castle. Along the way, however, Luigi looked to the horizon and he spotted something very odd.

“Hey, guys!” He called Mario and Toad. “Look-a over there!”

Mario and Toad looked to where Luigi was looking at, and they gasped and widened their eyes as they spotted a plethora of flying pirate ships approaching the Mushroom Kingdom.

“Oh, no!” Mario cried. “Bowser!”

Chapter 2: Bowser Captures Peach... Again!

Chapter Text

The pirate ships that have flags that bore Bowser’s insignia started firing cannonballs at the town to cause chaos throughout the Mushroom Kingdom. This is what Bowser normally does whenever he invades the Mushroom Kingdom.

For the longest time, Bowser, the king of the Koopas and the Dark Lands, had always invaded the Mushroom Kingdom to capture Princess Peach and force her to marry him. Every time he tried that, Mario and Luigi would always interfere and foil his plans and send him back to the Dark Lands to come up with another sinister plan.

Now, Bowser has concocted an even more sinister plan, one that he hoped will prevent the Mario brothers from intervening and finally gets his prized princess. He ordered his flagship to descend toward Peach’s castle, to which it did immediately.

Princess Peach is already on her balcony, watching Bowser’s flagship descend towards her castle. She is a blonde princess with a beautiful, elegant pink dress.

Princess Peach held a star-like creature in her arms. The creature is called a luma, or a child of the stars.

Once the flagship reached the balcony, Bowser appeared on the ship’s bow and he started calling out to the Mushroom Princess.

“Princess Peach!” The Koopa King said loudly, his voice was like a roar. “You are cordially invited to witness the birth… of my new GALAXY!”

Princess Peach is being guarded by a couple of Toad guards and an elder Toad named Toadsworth, who is Peach’s most trusted advisor. “New galaxy?” Toadsworth said questioningly. “What on Earth are you talking about?”

“SILENCE, YOU LITTLE, OLD FART!” Snapped Bowser. “I have no need for your squabbling!” He turned to his minions. “Remove him from my sights!”

The minions obliged their master’s orders and they used a crane to pick Toadsworth up from the balcony and they flung him away from the balcony, much to Peach’s horror. When Toadsworth was dealt with, Bowser continued speaking.

“This Star Festival is now over!” He yelled. “The birth of my new galaxy will commence now! Gwa ha ha ha ha!!!”

And with that, Bowser did something that everyone thought to be impossible. He concentrated a new display a power noone has ever seen before; he charged up blue lightning and moments later, the dark clouds that were once forming over the Mushroom Kingdom had suddenly been swept away and a new shadow formed over the kingdom.

The new shadow is a dark UFO of some sorts and it started glowing red circles. The UFO could mean that a new enemy has joined forces with Bowser.

Peach gasped in total shock and horror as she stared at the shadowy UFO. She pondered whether it is Tatanga back for revenge or a new space enemy no one has ever encountered. What she knows for sure is that her kingdom is now facing a new threat, and it is going to be harder than it was before.

Meanwhile, back at the town, Mario and Luigi stared at the strange, dark UFO. Toad stood alongside the brothers, staring at the UFO as well.

“Could Tatanga be back?!” Toad asked in fright.

“I don’t know,” Mario answered. “I’ve never seen a spaceship like that before!”

“Well, whatever it is,” Luigi added, “it seems to be joining forces with Bowser and now they are after Princess Peach!”

“Come on!” Mario declared to Luigi and Toad. “We gotta get to the castle and save her!”

“Right!”

“Oh, I hope Daisy is out of danger!” Said Luigi with worry.

Mario, Luigi and Toad immediately race out of the town and they are aiming to get to Peach’s castle to protect her from Bowser and his new space ally. When they got to a hill, they ran into Toadsworth, who was recovering from when he got thrown from the balcony by the huge crane on Bowser’s flagship.

“Master Toadsworth!” Toad cried. “Are you alright?!”

“Just a minor flesh wound,” Toadsworth replied, shaking off the pain. “But we gotta get back to the castle! Bowser’s after the princess… again!”

“No kidding!” Mario replied. “Let’s-a go!”

Mario, Luigi and the two Toads raced up the hill and when they’ve got to the top, they have spotted Peach frozen in horror on her balcony. On her balcony, Peach’s horrified gaze suddenly turned down and she spotted the Mario brothers and the Toads.

Peach gasped. “MARIO, HELP ME!”

Mario could hear his name being called by the princess. “Hang on, Princess Peach, I’ll save you!”

On his flagship, Bowser heard Peach’s call to MariToads racing up toward the castle. “Hmmph!” He harrumphed. “It’s those blasted plumber brothers again!” He turned to his right-hand man, Kamek, or Magikoopa. “Put them out of the way!”

“Yes, Sire!” Kamek obeyed, and he used his broomstick to fly out of the flagship and up to the sky, getting ready to ambush the Mario brothers.

Once Kamek was out of sight, Bowser ordered his minions and the dark UFO to commence the next phase of his sinister plot. Obeying the Koopa King, the UFO concentrated power on the red circles, which would later turn green, and then they shot beams of light on the ground surrounding the castle.

The beams of light were hot enough to burn through the ground, and they made one big circle around the castle. Mario, Luigi and the Toads barely passed through the beams of light, and they stopped marching to observe what the beams were doing.

After the beams were reduced to nothing, Bowser’s flagship, along with several other floating pirate ships descended to the ground and they dropped down hook-like anchors on chains to the ground, and they punctured through the dirt. Many moments later, the pirate ships started floating upwards and, with all of their might, lifted the castle off of the ground and they started carrying it up to the sky.

Peach and the others are abhorred at what Bowser is doing. The Koopa King is raising the castle with them to outer space.

Mario and Luigi panicked as they got closer to outer space. “Oh, no!” Cried Luigi. “We’re going to space! We’ll freeze!”

“No, we’re not!” Toadsworth calmed the green plumber. “Space here is nothing like the space at your dimension. We’ll be fine.”

Once everything reached outer space, Toadsworth theory was correct as everything did NOT freeze. Mario and Luigi sighed in total relief.

The brothers’ relief was later vanquished when they heard Peach calling out to them.

“MAAAARIOOOO!!!”

Mario gasped. “Princess Peach! Hang on, I’m coming!”

Suddenly, Kamek got in Mario’s path blocking him from the entrance of the castle.

“Kamek!” Mario snarled. “Get out of the way!”

On the balcony, the door behind Peach and her Toad guards suddenly flew open. After that, a girl wearing a yellow dress came out in a hurry; it was Princess Daisy, Peach’s best friend.

“Hey, what’s going on here?!” She asked.

Bowser noticed Daisy and he gasped in horror. “That girl!” He said to his minions, pointing at Daisy. “Get rid of her now!”

The minions obliged their master’s wishes, and they used the crane to pick Daisy up from the balcony floor, and they flung her off toward where the brothers are standing.

‘AHHHHH!!!” Daisy screamed.

“Daisy!” Luigi screamed, and he raced to catch his girlfriend with pure determination.

In a swift stroke, Luigi catched Daisy, and he held her bridal style. Toad and Toadsworth cheered as Luigi caught the Sarasaland princess.

“Oh, Luigi!” Daisy cried gaily.

“Daisy, are you alright?” Luigi asked his girlfriend.

“I am, thanks to you!” Daisy replied happily, and she gave him a smooch on the lips.

“Awww!” Kamek teased. “How quaint… The scaredy-cat plumber and the fiercest princess in the galaxy together, and–”

“KAMEK, STOP YOUR BLABBERING AND REMOVE THESE PATHETIC BUMS FROM MY SIGHTS!!!” Bowser angrily demanded.

“Yes, Sire!” Kamek obeyed. He then turned to the group of heroes, charging up magic in his wand. “So long! Have a nice flight!”

And with that, Kamek fired magic from his wand and it landed on the bridge where Mario, Luigi, Daisy and the Toads are standing on. Once the magic hit the bridge, the bridge broke apart and the heroes were sent flying down outer space, screaming their heads off.

Bowser and his minions, including Kamek, laughed their heads off in an evil triumph.

Peach gasped in horror, and she screamed. “MAAAAARIOOOOOO!!!”

Suddenly, the entire castle and the fleet of pirate ships disappeared in a blue light. After that, it turned into a star, and it zoomed deep into space.

Could this mean that Bowser has finally succeeded in his plot?

Chapter 3: Rosalina, Princess of the Cosmos

Chapter Text

Blackness…

Mario’s vision was nothing but pure blackness for the longest time. Another few moments later, Mario could hear the laughter of a child.

Stirring awake after listening to the laughter of the child, Mario struggled to open his eyes. He groaned in exhaustion and pain before he wasd finally able to open his eyes.

As he opened his eyes, Mario found himself in a strange place, a beautiful, grassy meadow surrounded by the night sky. He stood up to look at his surroundings, which turned out to be strange.

Mario found himself standing on a small planet he knows nothing about. As he takes in the information of his whereabouts, he desperately started calling out to his friends to see if they are there, or he was all alone.

“Luigi! Daisy! Toad! Toadsworth! Where are-a you guys?!”

“Mario!”

Mario heard Luigi’s voice, and he followed it to where the others were. The red-cladded plumber is relieved to see his twin brother and his friends alive and well.

“Oh, thank goodness!” Mario sighed in relief. “You guys are okay?”

“Yes, we are physically okay,” Daisy replied, “but i’m not sure if we should be psychologically okay right now.” She looked around the surroundings, finding it all strange. “I mean, what on earth is this place? It’s so… small.”

“Could this be another planet?” Toadsworth asked, mainly to himself, but it was loud enough for the others to hear.

“What do you mean?” Mario asked for clarification.

“Well, let us not forget that Bowser and that strange UFO pulled the castle out of the ground and ascended it up to space, taking us along with it,” Toadsworth explained. And that was before Bowser had us banished from the castle, and sent us flying through space.”

“Yeah, I do remember that,” Luigi responded. “I also remember that when we were up in space, we did not freeze to death.”

“That’s because space in this dimension is different compared to the outer space in your own dimension,” Toadsworth explained again.

“That actually…” Mario began before shaking his head, “...doesn’t make any sense at all.”

Toadsworth sighed in annoyance. “Forget it. Look, we need to get our bearings and see if we can get out of this rock.”

Before more can be said and done, however, something appeared before them. It’s a star creature, the same creature that Peach was holding when her kingdom was under attack by Bowser and his mysterious UFO ally.

“So, you’re all awake!” Cried the star creature. “Wanna play?”

“Who the heck are you?!” Luigi gasped.

“Don’t worry,” Toadsworth soothed Luigi. “That’s a luma, a creature living in outer space. Peach was holding one of them during the festival before we got attacked.”

“Why, hello there!” Daisy said to the luma. “Can you tell us where we are?”

“Play with me, and I’ll take you to someone who will tell you everything,” answered the luma before changing into a rabbit.

When the luma turned into a rabbit, it started running around the planet, confusing the group. They all looked at each other, and shrugged, deciding to play along.

The group chased the rabbit until they reached a pad of wildflowers. There they are joined by two more rabbits, but their ears are yellow compared to luma’s ears, which are as white as the snow.

“Let’s play hide-and-seek!” Said the white rabbit. “If you catch us, we’ll take you to my friend, who’ll tell you everything there is to know about this place.”

Mario and Luigi groaned. They fear that this could take longer than expected.

“Alright, here we go!” Cried the white bunny, and then it started hopping away with the two yellow rabbits.

The group chased after the rabbits until the little critters started hopping in a fast pace, losing them. Mario and Luigi got tired while chasing the rabbits, but Daisy refused to give up.

Thinking quickly, Daisy quickly leaped toward an area of long grass, and she was able to get one of the yellow rabbits. The rabbit groaned.

“You got me! Should’ve hid in the crater!”

Mario got an idea after hearing what the rabbit said. He’d later found a crater in the middle of the field and he jumped down it. He ended up getting out of another crater, and out came the other yellow rabbit with it.

Seconds later, Mario caught the second rabbit, and the creature groaned. “Rats! You got me! Should’ve hidden in the green pipe.”

“Green pipe?!” Luigi repeated. “Oh, I know that one, I know that one!”

Luigi looked around in a frenzy and he eventually spotted a green pipe similar to the ones people use back at the Mushroom Kingdom. Luigi quickly went down the pipe and found himself climbing up another pipe, taking the white rabbit along with him.

“I got it! I got it!” Luigi cheered.

“Yay!” Cried the rest of the group.

“Wow!” Luma said, turning back into its original star form. “You managed to get all three of us.”

The two yellow-eared rabbits joined the white star, and eventually turned into yellow luma stars themselves. The group reacted in awe.

“Hmmm,” hummed the white star. “Maybe you guys have what it takes to help Mama…”

“Mama?” Daisy repeated. “Who’s Mama?”

“My Mama,” the white luma repeated. “Here, I’ll take you to her!”

The three lumas concentrated their power, and they made a small castle appear. At the top of the castle lies a strange, blue glow.

“Follow me!” Said the white luma, and it floated toward the castle.

The group followed the white luma to the castle and they started climbing it until they reached the top. There they spotted something so magnificent, they reacted in awe.

What the group stared at was a woman wearing a cyan-colored dress. The woman is a bleach-blonde with eyes similar to Princess Peach’s. She is also carrying a wand on her hand, which made the group realize that she has magic abilities.

“Hello there,” greeted the cyan-cladded woman. “I’ve been watching you from here. Perhaps you all are wondering where you are.”

The group didn’t answer her. They are still mystified at how glowing the woman looked.

“This place is called… the gateway to the starry sky,” continued the cyan-cladded woman. “My name is Rosalina, Princess of the Cosmos. My job is to watch over and protect the cosmos. I know of your plight, and I know that your friend has been taken by an evil tyrant who wants to reign the cosmos and make your friend his queen.”

“We have-a got to stop him!” Said Mario with determination. “Could you help us find Bowser, Princess Rosalina?”

“To save your special one,” Rosalina answered, “you’ll need the power to travel through space and chart through various planets in order to find clues of the whereabouts of the evil tyrant. Luma!”

The white luma appeared, giggling in the process. It’s the same one that played hide-and-seek with the group.

“Luma can give you this power,” Rosalina said to Mario and his friends. “I will entrust you all with his care.”

Luma suddenly glowed brightly, and it zoomed toward the group, going through each and everyone’s chest. When it was done, the group felt a power they haven’t felt before.

“Wow!” Mario exclaimed, feeling like a million bucks. “This feels good! Now we can go save Peach!”

“Wa-hoo!” Luigi cheered, and Daisy and the TOads cheered with laughter.

“Yes,” Rosalina added. “But there is one thing I must ask you to do while you journey through space.”

“What’s-a that?” Asked Luigi.

“The evil tyrant struck us just as it did to you,” Rosalina explained. “He stole the Grand Stars and is planning to use them to create his evil space empire. With Luma’s help, I hope that you guys can rescue those Grand Stars, stop the evil tyrant and save the galaxy… I am counting on you. Farewell.”

And with that, Rosalina floated upwards, and seconds later, she vanished in thin air, mystifying the group even more; they are now alone with Luma, the white luma that played hide-and-seek with them earlier.

Chapter 4: The First Grand Star

Chapter Text

Once Mario, Luigi and their friends are alone with the white luma, called Luma, they consider their options.

“Okay,” Mario began, “so all we have to do is traverse throughout the galaxy and rescue these Grand Stars and rescue Peach from Bowser… Not a problem!”

“There is one problem for me,” Luigi quickly replied. “How do we get out of here?”

“Well, for starters,” Toadsworth answered, “we have to rely on Luma here to help us with space travel.”

“Right!” Mario obliged, and he turned to Luma. “So, what’s the deal, Luma? How do we use space travel?”

“Before we do that,” Luma spoke, “let’s get the hang of the new powers Mama has given you. Try spinning things that look breakable, like this green glass behind me.”

Mario and the gang looked behind Luma and spotted a big amount of green glass. Understanding what he needs to do, Mario approached the glass and he used his spin attack to break it.

After breaking the glass, a huge orange star suddenly appeared out of nowhere, surprising the entire group. “Whoa!” They all reacted.

“This is a launch star,” said Luma. “When you’re near one of those, use your spin attack on it and it’ll shoot you through space like a comet! Oh, before you do, allow me to give you a useful tip: You can also use the spin attack to stun enemies. Very useful in battle.”

“Got it!” Mario replied. “Thanks, Luma!”

“Now let’s go travel the universe!” Suggested Luma. “There are plenty of galaxies for us to explore! We need to explore every galaxy possible to find the Grand Stars and save them from that evil turtle tyrant and use them to save Princess Peach!”

“Well, what are we waiting for?!” Mario asked his gang. “Let’s-a go!”

“Yeah!” Chanted the others, and together, they used their spin attack on the giant, orange star and the star reacted.

The orange star picked up the entire gang and it shot them throughout outer space. They all screamed as they flew through outer space until they eventually landed on a nearby planet.

When they recovered from landing at the new planet, they are already encountered by another Luma. “Hello!” It said, “Good to see you! I have some bad news, though. You see, I HAD a launch star all ready for you, but a meteor came and smashed it up!”

“Awww!” Reacted the group.

“But don’t worry,” continued the luma. “All you have to do is to gather star chips in order to repair it, and then, you’ll be able to leave this planet. Oh, and be sure not to fall in the black hole!”

The group took the luma’s advice grandly, and they carefully traversed throughout the planet, looking for the star chips. The star chips look like triangles with a circle on the top of it.

The group collected five chips, which is enough to repair the launch star, and then when it was repaired, the group used it to be launched to a new planet. The planet was gold and it looked futuristic.

The group looked around the futuristic, golden planet and they discovered a luma being trapped in a glass jar. They approached the imprisoned luma, and they heard it screaming for help.

“Get me out of here!” Cried the luma. “One of those enemies should have a key!”

The enemies the luma was talking about turned out to be Goombas, Bowser’s most common henchmen. The Goombas are brown, mushroom-like monsters with small eyes and really large eyebrows that always make them look angry.

“Remember to use your spin attack to stun those dreaded enemies,” reminded the luma, “and when they’re stunned, just run into them and you’ll instantly kick them out of the planet!”

“Thanks for the tip!” Said Mario, and he and the others charged at the group of Goombas and attacked them with the spin attack and kicking them out of the planet.

When the Goombas were kicked out of the planet, a bunch of coins and a key fell to the golden ground. Daisy picked up the key, and she used it to set the luma free.

“Thank you so much!” Said the luma. “Now, could you be friends and help rescue my buddy in that next planet over there?”

Daisy and the others looked at the planet the luma was looking at, and they nodded their heads. “We’ll need a launch star,” said Daisy.

“Not a problem,” replied the luma. “I’ll transform into a sling star. Just jump into me after I… TRANSFORM!!!”

And with that, the luma turned into a sling star, which is golden compared to the orange launch star. Once the sling star was set, the gang jumped into it and they were slinged to the nearby planet.

Once Mario and his group landed on the nearby planet, they looked around for Goombas and they defeated them to acquire the key to set the luma free from its glass prison. Unfortunately, they eliminated all of the small Goombas and they couldn’t find the key.

Eventually, the group found, to their horror, a humongous Goomba, which is large enough to deflect their attacks and damage them. “Well, now what do we do?!” Luigi asked, after the group tried everything to eliminate the giant Goomba with no success.

“Use the spin attack on that glass prism next to you!” Cried the imprisoned luma.

Understanding what the luma was talking about, Daisy let out a karate yell before punching one of the maroon-colored glass prisms, and the prism let out a shockwave that suddenly stunned the giant Goomba. When the Goomba was stunned, Luigi quickly rushed it and kicked it out of the planet, forcing it to drop the key.

Luigi picked up the key, and he used it to free the luma.

“Thank you!” Said the luma. “Follow me! I want to take you inside this golden planet! There’s a Grand Star inside!”

Mario and the others wasted no time as they followed the luma to a green pipe, which led them inside the golden planet’s core. Inside the core is the Grand Star, which is imprisoned in a glas jar, and machinery is draining its energy.

“Oh, my gosh!” Cried Toad as he and the others watched the Grand Star losing its power to the machinery. “What’s happening to it?!”

“Those awful Goombas are using the Grand Star to power this planet, which happens to be an awful machine made by either Bowser or his UFO ally. It looks like it’s making… something.”

“What do you think it is making?” Luigi asked.

“Who cares?!” Toadsworth snapped. “We have to shut this thing down and grab that Grand Star!”

“Toadsworth is right!” Mario added, and he turned to the luma. “How do we turn it off?”

“I saw those Goombas activating the machine by pressing those yellow buttons, which started out as blue buttons, before I got locked up,” answered the luma. “Try pushing those buttons back to its blue color.”

“Got it!” Mario responded, and he turned to Toad. “Toad, you and Toadsworth deal with the buttons, while Luigi, Daisy and myself deal with the Goombas protecting them, okay?”

“Okey-Dokey, Mario!” Toad obliged.

Mario, Luigi and Daisy battled the Goombas while Toad and Toadsworth focused on the yellow buttons. There were several buttons surrounding the Grand Star, and there were others around the whole core.

Toadsworth focused on the buttons around the core while Toad started pushing the buttons surrounding the Grand Star. All of the buttons turned blue, and the machine turned itself off; after that the glass around the Grand Star disappeared.

Toad made his way to the Grand Star, acquiring it with his hands. “I’ve got it!” He cheered. “I’ve got the star!”

Everyone cheered, especially Mario, Luigi and Daisy after they got rid of the Goombas.

Chapter 5: The Comet Observatory

Notes:

Two chapters in one day! Enjoy!

Chapter Text

The group, along with the luma and the Grand Star, exited the core and they suddenly floated around space, and they eventually landed on a nearby planet which is not controlled by Bowser and his minions. After landing on the planet, the group watched as the Grand Star zoomed toward the planet’s center, on a small sphere.

Seconds later, the sphere turned bright orange and it grew a little bigger than normal. After that, the entire planet lit up. At first, the planet looked dark, but after the Grand Star zoomed to the center sphere, the planet lit up into a bright planet that has grassy meadows and houses and such.

The group approached the center sphere and they looked at it, reacting in awe. Moments later, they become surprised as they noticed Rosalina appearing beside them.

Floating next to Rosalina is a black luma. “The beacon is lit again!” It cried. “It shines weakly, maybe only as bright as a Class 6 star, but at least the Lumas will survive now.”

“Wait,” Luigi suddenly voiced out. “You mean the Lumas were dying?”

“Yes,” answered the black luma, glancing at Luigi and the rest of the group. “But not to worry, thanks to you guys, one of the Grand Stars have been recovered and turned the observatory back on!”

Rosalina turned to the group with a smile on her face. “Thank you for rescuing that Grand Star,” she said warmly. “Anyway, welcome to the Comet Observatory. It’s my home to myself and the Lumas. They are family, and they mean so much to me, so thank you for restoring this place and bringing hope back to my family.”

Mario blushed. “Shucks, it was nothing,” he said.

Daisy elbowed Mario. “May I remind you that Peach is your girlfriend, and not her?”

Mario quickly shook off his blush and he apologized to Daisy.

After that, Daisy turned to Rosalina. “So, what’s the deal? What does that twisted Bowser want with these Grand Stars?”

Rosalina paused for a moment before she started to explain. “Let me tell you a story about myself. You see… Me and my family, the lumas, travel the starry skies. We pass this area once every one hundred years.”

“Oh!” Exclaimed Toad. “So, you guys are the comet we keep seeing every hundred years?! The one we celebrate the Star Festival with?!”

“That’s right,” Rosalina answered. “Anyway, as we were coming toward your planet, we suddenly stopped because something went wrong. A strange force had latched on to our ship, pulling away our star bits and our power source, the Power Stars.”

“I wonder if Bowser had something to do with this,” said Daisy after listening to Rosalina’s statement.

“You mean the fire-breathing turtle tyrant?” Asked Rosalina. “Yes, it was him that stopped our ship. He then stole our stars after he learned that they could help him cross the universe, and it was because of what he did, our ship went into a deep hibernation state in which it could not move.”

“I see,” Mario replied. “And then, after that, he came down to the Mushroom Kingdom and he picked up the castle, kidnapping Princess Peach in the process!”

“He must be planning to use the Power Stars to create his new empire and make Peach his queen!” Daisy added.

There was a tense silence following Daisy’s statement. Everyone, including Rosalina and some of the Lumas felt lonesome.

Rosalina then turned to Mario and his group. “Please, I have a request…”

“Name it,” Mario quickly replied.

“This observatory uses Star Power to project images of the galaxies that are scattered across space,” explained Rosalina. “And… there is a chance we can use our few remaining stars to look for the other Power Stars.”

Rosalina then pointed her wand at one of the houses, which are shaped as grassy domes. The group followed the wand’s direction and they spotted the domed-house.

“These round rooms, called domes, are used to observe galaxies,” continued Rosalina. “The only one working now, powered by the Star Power you restored, is this one… the Terrace.”

“So, I’m guessing that you want us to go to this ‘Terrace’ place?” Asked Luigi.

“Yes,” Rosalina answered instantly. “While at the Terrace, you must recover the Power Stars from the galaxies you can see there.”

“And once those Power Stars have been restored,” added the black Luma, "its powers should restore the Comet Observatory’s ability to fly like a starship. Then, and ONLY then, perhaps we can pursue the thieves who ran off with our stars and retrieve them back… and Princess Peach, of course.”

“Okay, then,” Mario declared. “I’m in! Let’s-a go, gang!”

“YEAH!” Agreed Luigi, Daisy and Toad.

“Now, hold on a minute,” said Toadsworth. “I think you guys can do well without me. You see, pressing those buttons have cricked my spine and I’m afraid that if I don’t rest now, I’ll paralyze myself. I think I’ll stay here and rest.”

“Well, I’m not staying and rest!” Daisy declared. “I want to help and restore this observatory! I have to save my best friend… and give that blasted Koopa King a piece of my fist!”

“Ha!” Laughed Luigi. “That’s my girlfriend!”

Mario smiled, and he turned back to Rosalina. “Don’t worry, Princess Rosalina, we will restore this observatory and make it fly again. That way, we’ll work together to save Peach and the universe!”

Rosalina smiled warmly. “Thank you! Go forth and may the stars protect you on your journey!”

Mario nodded, and he led Luigi, Daisy and Toad to the domed-house called Terrace.
