The first time Bobby saw Eddie’s new moustache, the entire crew were attending a barbeque at the Grant-Nash household. They were there to celebrate Chimney’s birthday, and usually that meant a mess of wrapping paper everywhere as the Little ripped his way through any and all presents at the speed only a kid could manage.
That day, however, the boy seemed distracted. Eddie had noticed that the boy’s gaze had been glued on him from the moment he stepped foot in the house, but thought nothing of it. Sometimes Bobby was a shy kid, and when he was tired he tended to stare a lot, as much as Athena tried to stop him.
It was only after the third time Chim asked if the boy would like to help him open his presents with no answer from the boy that Eddie got concerned.
“Hey kiddo,” Athena gently nudged Bobby, finally getting his attention, “do you wanna help Chim open all his presents?”
Bobby simply shook his head and returned his gaze to Eddie. Athena was shocked for a moment - never had Bobby turned down an opportunity to open presents when he was little - before she shook it off.
“Well, what do you say to Chimney?”
“No thanks, ‘imney” Bobby barely glanced over at the man for a second before his gaze turned back to Eddie.
Eddie smiled softly at the boy, even waving a little to try and interact with him - let him know it was okay to speak to him if he was in a shy mood - but the Little didn’t even flinch.
-
He was having a conversation with Hen over a piece of cake when they were interrupted.
“Your shadow’s back,” she said simply, stopping Eddie’s sentence in an instant.
“What?” he asked, before turning around to find Bobby once again staring at him. The boy was sitting at the table this time, eating cake with his Mama and Uncle Buck, but he was still just staring.
Eddie was beginning to think there was something wrong. With him or Bobby? He had no idea.
“Mind if i sit with you guys?” Eddie decided to take a seat at the same table Bobby was at, and the boy immediately hid his face in Athena’s side, even thought Eddie culd still clearly see one of his eyes peeking up at him.
“Come on baby, you know your Uncle Eddie, there’s no need to be shy” Athena was gently trying to coax Bobby from her side, but the moment she mentioned Eddie's name, Bobby sat up straighter.
“Uncle Eddie?” he asked incredulously, glancing between his mama and Eddie.
“Yeah baby, it’s your Uncle Eddie,” Athena smiled at him then, catching on to what was going on.
Also smiling, Buck brought his hand up to cover Eddie’s upper lip before speaking, “yep, just your Uncle Eddie and his new moustache.”
Bobby looked between the two before huffing and crossing his arms.
“I don’t like your new mu’dowsh Uncle Eddie, it looks like a bad capatilla.”
“A bad caterpillar, huh?” Buck asked, turning to face the man in question, “why on earth do you have a bad caterpillar on your lip, Uncle Eddie, you’re scaring the kid!”
“I not scared Uncle Buck, I’m a big boy!”
“I know you are buddy, but that thing is pretty scary - it looks like it’s gonna jump out and eat me.”
“I can save you from the bad capatilla!” Bobby cried before jumping up and running at Eddie.
Buck, of course, recorded the entire chase, cheering Bobby on as Eddie pleaded at him to stop as he dodged theLittle's hand every time it came up to grab his moustache.
