Work Text:
Lying was a bad thing, Especially in Nate’s mind, so of course, he swore to never lie to anyone. Especially the girl he likes.
But withholding the truth?
That isn’t…as bad.
Supposedly.
It had been two months since Nathan transferred schools with his sisters. Moving out of the country had been hard, and then he got partnered up in maths with the, what’s the best word to describe her?
Stand-offish, goth girl who sat by herself at lunch, drawing in a sketchbook.
And this moron had fallen completely for her.
It wasn’t because of her looks, though she was pretty, how she acted was what drew him in.
The first lesson they had, someone had attempted to throw a glue stick at him. For ‘staring too long’. And she had just grabbed it and chucked it back.
Yes, they both got in trouble.
But she had just defended him, or, maybe herself? it did almost hit her..but that was a sign for Nathan, that she might be actually super nice and he should totally try to be her friend.
and that’s what he did, day after day, finding her in different places, trying to start conversations, or just staying around.
eventually she sorta warmed up to him?
They’d hang out regularly now. Uzi.
And now he was waiting for her outside her house.
He checked his phone, a text popping up from: Uz 💜
“Coming in 30 secs.”
He smiled to himself, then checked his hair.
They were going to a party together, one of his first. And he wouldn’t go without his best friend, if it wasn’t obvious, they were like two peas in a pod.
He heard her front door click open, and his heart skipped a beat. She was wearing a V-neck black shirt, with a matching skirt that was half-way above her knee, a lacy-cardigan, and of course her signature choker.
“Oh- wow! You..you look..good.”
He stuttered out, face flushing.
“..T-thanks. You look nice too.”
She tucked her hair behind her ear, walking over to him.
He straightened up, trying to will away the blush on his face.
“You ready?”
“..mhm.”
And with that, they headed towards the party.
-
It was at Tyler’s house, another one of their close friends. They met the Green-eyed jock
at the door.
“N & M’s! Zi! You made it. That’s awesome dude.”
He held the door open.
“thanks, Tyler. This looks..”
Nathan paused to glance around. Drunk teenagers everywhere.
“fun?”
Tyler nodded enthusiastically, grabbing his arm to drag him further into the party.
“Cmon! You two should have a drink.”
But Nate didn’t hear him,
His body had focused on the feeling of another, colder hand grabbing onto his.
He glanced back at Uzi, noticing how uncomfortable she looked.
He looked back at Tyler, then squeezed Zi’s hand. Pulling her nearer to him. Then they got to the drinks.
Nathan had only drank maybe a couple times in his life, mostly when Vanny dared him too, He never really enjoyed the taste of alcohol. It was too bitter.
but he couldn’t pass this time, it would be rude, wouldn’t it? To not accept the drink.
Probably.
So he grabbed the plastic cup and drank a sip, pushing past the bitter taste.
Uzi didn’t drink.
He didn’t ask questions, if she didn’t want to drink, she didn’t. He was probably making a big mistake but like..she’s here.
He’ll be fineeee.
-
Nate was not fine.
He’d probably vomited atleast 3 times now.
It had been hours, of dancing and drinking.
He’d gotten used to the taste now. Even enjoying it somewhat.
And Uzi was there, mostly trying to ignore how he smelt now, of beer and whatever cheap shit that had been bought, but she definitely wasn’t leaving him.
“..Yknow..”
His voice slurred slightly, eyes droopy.
“You’re awesome. I love that about you.”
He wasn’t even present enough to realise what he said.
“Actually..I love everything about you.”
A hand was slapped over his mouth.
Uzi’s face was bright pink.
“Okay, shut it, before you say anything else. We can talk about this when you’re not drunk.”
He nodded, looking at her like a love-sick puppy.
“..I like listening to youuu..”
She groaned, then pulled his chin up and poured more water into his mouth.
“Drink.”
-
Nathan didn’t know how long he’d been asleep, his head was pounding, and his body felt uncomfortably warm and sweaty.
But then he realised he wasn’t in his bed.
The dark, skull-themed bed covers should’ve been the first obvious. But his eyes landed on the dark violet walls and the faint purple LEDs.
“…Uzi..?”
His voice was weak, his tongue felt heavy.
“Morning, idiot.”
She leaned over the side of the bed, meeting his gaze.
“..why am I in your bed?”
..
“Long story.”
She helped him sit up, propping him up against the mountain of plushie and pillows that took up a third of the bed.
Nate blinked the sleep away, his hand going up to rub his eyes.
He hesitated, then asked.
“Did I say anything stupid last night?”
She stared at him for a second, then nodded.
“You told me you loved everything about me.”
His face flushed.
“..Oh- ah. Uh. Are you..mad about that?”
His voice was nervous, a sinking feeling was growing in his stomach.
“..No. I’m not.”
She reached over and grabbed his hand.
“..Because I love you too.”
