Snow-White Sunshine Reunion

Summary:

Chris meets an old friend after a long time.

Notes:

This one was super cute. Miku and Chris-related content is a little hard to come by, so I'm glad I get to add something to the pile.

Work Text:

Miku laid on the couch, boredly outstretching her legs and kicking her feet up on the other end. There was no rice for her to make or her girlfriend to cuddle. Her TV was on, rerunning some anime about a middle schooler becoming god through the power of the internet. Miku looked at her phone, and a text message from her girlfriend popped up.

“How’s it going, my sunshine?” Hibiki texted. Miku sent a frowning emoji. She laid her phone on the lap, waiting for another blip.

Taking a deep yawn, she pulled herself up and walked towards the kitchen, placing her phone on the counter. Another text message popped up from Hibiki.

“Aww, I’m sorry Miku-chan,” Hibiki sent a frowning emoji back. “Genjuro said he needed his strongest lifters to help, so Maria-san and I are helping to move stuff.”“That’s ok,” Miku texted back. “Are you and Maria-san having fun?”

“Of course,” Hibiki added a smile emoji. “Maria and I are competing to see who can lift the biggest crates.”

“Sounds wonderful,” Miku replied with a blushing smile. “Wish I could be there.”

While she was texting her girlfriend, Miku opened up her cupboard and got out a bowl. Then she pulled a bag of potato chips out, poured them into the bowl and opened the refrigerator, pulling out a can of soda-pop. Afterward, she took her junk food and phone back to the living room, placing them on the table and slouching back onto the couch. As she relaxed, a familiar knock on the door was heard.

“Who is it?” Miku looked over.

“Your friend,” a familiar voice yelled from the other side. “I’ve got too many things in my hands, let me in!”

Miku hurried up from the couch, opening the door to see Chris standing there. Her arms were full of grocery bags, one of which was preparing to topple over! Miku saved it, grabbing the bag and placing it on her table. She gestured to Chris to enter and have a seat, closing the door behind them.

“Sorry I couldn’t call or text ahead,” Chris bowed her head, pushing her shoes off to the sides.

“That’s alright,”  Miku took the other set of bags in her hands, placing them on the table behind her.

“Where’s the dummy?” Chris looked around the room.

“Maria-san and Hibiki are helping Genjuro-san move around a few things,” Miku sat back down on the couch.

“Bet you’d faint at the sight of your girlfriend flexing those muscles of hers,” Chris cackled.

“Oh I would,” Miku blushed.

“Never change, Miku,” Chris stretched.

“Before we catch up,” Miku prepared to get up from the couch. “Can I get you anything?”

“Oh uh,” Chris looked over at the sink. “A glass of water would be fine.”

Miku walked over to the kitchen, grabbing a glass and filling it up.

“Anything else?”

“I’m fine, thanks.”

Miku walked over to her snow-haired friend, placing the cup in her hands.

“Thanks a plenty,” Chris smiled.

Chris laid back, eying the TV. Commercials advertised the Queens of Music’s upcoming reunion concert. A guarantee that no Noise would suddenly drop from the sky like last time was speedily heard at the end of the advertisement.

“At least they’re aware this time,” Chris giggled.

“What’s next,” Miku added. “Are they going to sell shirts that say they survived the concert?”

Much to the snarky delight of the duo, another promotion for the concert popped up, showing indeed that they were in on the joke as cruel as it was. The two gave a wide-eyed stare.

“No freaking way,” Chris was holding in laughter.

Miku let out a long, hearty laugh. Chris followed. As the next commercials played, the duo were too busy laughing up a storm.

“Tsubasa-senpai wouldn’t approve of this one,” Chris said between chuckles, Miku had gotten her laughter out a few seconds ago.

“Alright, Chris-san, that’s enough,” Miku gestured. “I wanna know how you’ve been!”

“Oh, I–” Chris took a few seconds to collect herself. “College has been fine.”

“What’s that been like?” Miku inquired, relaxing into the couch a little.

“Lots of work,” Chris sighed. “A bit of fun on the side, but wanting to be a musician has been stressful.”

“I can imagine,” Miku nodded. “Your voice is elegant enough. I'm surprised they haven’t handed you a degree.”

“W-why thanks,” Chris blushed, putting a finger onto one of her twintails and twirling it. “There’s a lot to it. Music theory, daily practice before and after classes.”

“What about all those shopping bags?” Miku looked over. “That’s a lot of food for one person.”

“About that,” Chris darted her eyes, pulling the curtains behind her like she was divulging top secret information. “I’m… sharing a dorm with a group.”

“Really?” Miku tilted her head. “How many?”

“Three,” Chris was blushing immensely. “Yuki, Komichi, and Ayumu.”

“Wow,” Miku spoke in disbelief. “I can imagine it gets very hectic.”

“Oh trust me,” Chris was smiling. “Waking up every Saturday to a TV loudly blasting some tokusatsu show is annoying.”

Chris picked up her glass of water, giving it a few sips and taking a deep breath.

“Now to ask you about things,” Chris placed the cup back down. “How’s the dummy doing?”

“Just fine,” Miku kicked back her feet and grinned. “As you can tell, we’re living just outside Lydian for the time being.”

“Why’s that?” Chris wondered,  “Is the dummy school-sick?”

“Not at all. We’re having to take up the role as Kirika-san and Shirabe-san’s mentors.” Miku raised her finger matter-of-factly

“I see how it is. Those two were all over me during graduation. I hope they’re doing better now.”

“It’s been a struggle,” Miku admitted. “Shirabe I’m totally fine with, Kirika just wants to hang out with Hibiki, which has random effects on the hour we normally see them.”

“As anyone would expect. Can’t have them in a room together or things will go haywire.” Chris smirked.

“Can’t disagree with that,” Miku smiled and put a finger to her mouth. “By the way, can you keep a secret?”

“Oh, of course. What’s up?”

“Recently, I’ve been working a pretty good job, and I’ve just about saved up enough money for something.”

“You mean…” Chris’ eyes widened.

“Oh yeah,” Miku exited the room, making her way to a bedroom. “Wait til you see it!”

Chris crossed her legs, waiting patiently as Miku went into her bedroom. She darted her eyes around the room. The TV was now off, a fan quietly rotated above the couch, and Chris pondered to herself. She did have something to give to Miku too, but it’s obvious Miku had something far more important. She turned her head to see Miku walking out with a small box.

“Are you ready to see it, Chris-san?” Miku’s voice rang with eagerness. “I’ve wanted to get one for a long time and pop the question, and you’re going to be one of the first people to see it.”

As Miku popped the box open, a gorgeous ring emanating with wondrous light filled the slightly dark room. Chris covered her eyes briefly, peeping out from her fingertips to see it. On a small half-circle stood a wonderful diamond. Many beams of light gleamed from it. Forget an arm and a leg, this one must’ve cost a whole body!

“Wow,” Chris’ jaw hung agape. “You really love that dummy, huh?”

“Absolutely, Chris-san.” Miku nodded. “Hibiki herself is more priceless than this ring in my eyes.”

Miku then shut the box, walking back to her bedroom to hide it. As she emerged, Chris was still awestruck.

“Have you ever felt that way about someone before?” Miku questioned.

“Well I…” Chris was still stunned. “Felt that way with Senpai once.”

“Tsubasa-san?” Miku cocked her head.

“Yes,” Chris tipped her head back. “Then Maria came along.”

Chris spoke that last sentence with a hint of jealousy.

“Did she ever know?”

“She’s dense sometimes,” Chris shrugged. “I bet she doesn’t even know Maria loves her, let alone I did.”

Miku sat next to her on the couch, wrapping her arms around Chris, a gleeful hug in an attempt to calm a foreboding storm.

“You know, Chris,” Miku’s calm voice was like sunlight poking through her clouds. “When Hibiki confessed to me a long time ago, I too was in awe at her finally speaking her true feelings.”

“Are you saying Tsubasa might have them, too?” Chris’ voice raised up from its low depths.

“She still might,” Miku gave Chris reassuring pats. Chris blushed in response. “If you’re still interested, I’d start off slow and ask if you’d be able to visit in her off time.”

“That sounds like a splendid idea,” Chris showed a rare smile across her face. “Senpai probably doesn’t feel the same for Maria, despite their stage presence together.”

“Love is such a mysterious thing,” Miku nodded. “Even to me, someone struck dumb by it.”

Chris laughed, letting Miku’s tight hug warm her further. She could stay like this for who knows how long, but then her phone started to ring. Snapping her out of this comfort, she picked it up to see Komichi’s name and a picture she took of her at an outing together holding a beer glass.

“Pardon me.” Chris looked over to Miku, who understandably detached her arms from around her. “Hello?”

CHRISSY!” Komichi yelled, loudly blaring through the phone speaker. “HAVE YOU COME HOME WITH THOSE GROCERIES YET?

“I told you I was going to see someone, didn’t I?” Chris pouted. “Maybe I can ask Miku-chan and the dummy if I can move in here!”

You’re seeing Miku-chan?!” Yuki butted in. “Tell her we said hi!

“Hi everyone,” Miku said. “It’s good to hear from you all again.”

You should totally crash at our place,” Ayumu was the last voice to join in. “We’re currently doing another tokusatsu marathon and wouldn’t mind the extra viewer!

“Oh, that’s ok,” Miku politely declined. “I’m working this weekend anyway.”

You’ve got a job now, Miku-chan?” Yuki probed. “What kind is it?

Those are questions we can ask another time,” Komichi sighed. “Chrissy, you can tell us about Miku-chan when you get home.

“Stop calling me that!” Chris shouted. “Idiot!”

Sorry,” Komichi and the others giggled. “You’re just our cute little snowball and we love teasing you.

“I am not cute!” Chris blushed. “Anyway, I’ll see you guys in a couple of minutes.”

Bye!” Yuki, Komichi, and Ayumu spoke in unison. “See you soon, Chrissy!

“MY NAME IS NOT CHRISSY!” Chris yelled, only to see they hung up on her already.

“They sure sound like lively roommates,” Miku grinned.“We’ll have to talk again some other time,” Chris stood up. “It was nice getting to see you again, Miku-chan.”

“You too, Chrissy-kun.” Miku teased.

Chris blushed, and Miku gave her a delighted hug. Chris had a slight smile on her face. To know full and well she has a friend as good as Miku. Even Yuki, Komichi, and Ayumu, despite the issues she may have, are good friends. It brought a great smile to her face, one that stayed as Miku released her grip from Chris’ body.

“Do you need help carrying these back to your car?” Miku picked up her groceries.

“Sure thing,” Chris gave a thumbs up, opening the door for them both. “I’ll carry some, too.”

Walking out to Chris’ car, a pink minivan pulled into the parking lot. Maria honked, and in the passenger seat was Hibiki, whose eyes widened in excitement at seeing Chris again. Chris and Miku waved at her coming down the stairs, turning over to Chris’ crimson sports car. Chris unlocked the trunk to it with her thumb, trying desperately not to pull her keys out while she was carrying bags on her shoulders and hands, her purse wrapped around her left arm.“CHRIS-CHAAAAAAAAAAN!” Hibiki yelled with excitement as she raced across the parking lot. Chris smiled, simply letting herself get pounced on by the dummy she admittedly missed.

“I missed you too,” Chris’ voice was a little muffled. “Dummy.”

Miku caught the bags that were flying through the air as Chris tumbled to the ground.

“I MISSED YOU SO MUCH!” Hibiki was stuck in a tackle position with Chris squirming for her to get off.

“Hibiki,” Miku’s voice was calm, but authoritative. “Please give Chris her personal space.”

“Sorry, Chris-chan,” Hibiki got up, holding out her hand to help Chris up. “I was just so excited to see you again.”

“It’s fine, dummy.” Chris assured. “Like I said, I missed having that happen. By the way, I wonder where Maria-san might be?”

“She told me to go on ahead,” Hibiki pointed over to her car. “She needed to go text someone prior.”

“Oh hi, Chris!” Maria rushed towards her, her pink minivan parked on one of the parking lot’s sides. “It’s good to see you once again!”

“You too,” Chris kept her chipper tone. “By the way, how’s Senpai?”

“Tsubasa is doing very well,” Maria smiled. “But she has been feeling lonely, even with me trying to comfort her.”

“Oh?” Chris was taken aback. “I wonder why.”

“If you’d like to,” Maria proposed, “You could visit us after our big concert coming up this Friday.”

“That’d be delightful,” Chris nodded. “I’ve been so inundated with work lately and today was a free day. I’ll have to see how Friday next week is so we can meet up.”

“I’ll have to see you then,” Maria pulled out a notebook resting in her jeans, penning down this possible event. “Anyway, I have to go. See you next week if you can make it!”

“You too!” Chris waved her off.

Miku just finished putting the groceries in the trunk, Hibiki loyally standing at her side. As she shut the trunk, Chris unlocked the front door and opened it. Miku and Hibiki followed her to the front, Chris placed her purse down on the opposing seat as she turned her attention over to Chris.

“By the way,” Hibiki added. “Next week, Miku-chan said we were going on a date near-”“Hibiki!” Miku stepped on her foot in an effort to silence her. “We’ll be over by your college next weekend, so I was wondering if you wanted to come along on our date.”

“Is that so?” Chris began to start up her car. “It’s a date.”

“That would be lovely,” Miku and Hibiki began walking onto the grass leading towards the stairs up to their apartment. Chris shut the doors of her car, opening the windows to hear them.

“We’ll see ya next week, Chris-chan!” Hibiki and Miku waved her off.

“See you soon, dummy and her friend!” Chris’ car backed out of the parking lot, she waved at Hibiki and Miku one last time, driving off onto the road ahead.
