James: me n juhoon r at practise room

Keonho: wasnt me, im textin from toilet

Martin:.... Seonghyeon?

Seonghyeon was pissed. Like, five minutes ago he was fine, but now his blood was boiling. All because of Martin.

He stared at his phone, the screen now dark. Martin hadn't told him who he was texting. And worse, he didn't know Martin was even into that kind of thing. He thought they told each other everything. They are best friends who tell each other everything, but guess not. He scoffs and looks at his phone again to see nothing.

So, Seonghyeon did the only logical thing. He stormed over to Martin's studio.

He was walking so fast that he didn't see the uneven bit of a carpet. His foot caught, he tripped, and he basically collapsed against Martin's door.

So embarrassing. Hope no one saw that.

As if on cue, his phone buzzed. The group chat. Martin had decided to share his humiliation with everyone. Ugh.

Scrambling up, he started pounding on the door.

It swung open to reveal a confused Martin.

"Explain," Seonghyeon demanded, pushing past him.

Martin groaned, running a hand over his face. "Bro, can we just forget it? I'm cringing enough as it is."

"Tell me who it was for," Seonghyeon shot back. A part of him knew he was being childish. Martin didn't owe him an explanation. But the louder, more petty part of his brain argued, I'm his best friend. I have a right to know.

"Nonya," Martin grumbled, turning away.

"Who? Is that a foreigner?" Seonghyeon pressed, not understanding.

“No dude, it’s none of your business”

"At least tell me where you met her”

"No, dude. Nonya means none of your business. There's no one!"

"Then the tiktok???" Seonghyeon's voice was rising.

Martin rolled his eyes so hard it probably hurt. "It was my homie from back home! We were just sending stupid TikToks to each other. It was a joke."

For a second, Seonghyeon felt a little better. Then, the irrational anger came flooding back. "Oh, so you send your 'homie' TikToks about wanting to be choked? Is that it? That’s not a ‘homie’ then."

Martin looked genuinely stunned before snatching a pen off his desk and chucking it at Seonghyeon. "What is wrong with you? How did your brain even come to that conclusion?"

"Oh wait wow. There is a possibility that you would've said yes then!" Seonghyeon was basically screaming now. "If your ‘homie’ was like, 'for real though?' you would said yes! And why is your 'homie' even seeing that? How close are you two?"

Martin was stunned again. What is wrong with Seonghyeon? “What is wrong with you?”

Seonghyeon opened his mouth to say something back, but... nothing. He had no clue why he was being like this. His gaze, which had been locked on Martin's, helplessly drifted down to his neck.

Choking? Like, actually putting his hands around Martin's neck? What was even the appeal?

"Look, I don't have time for this," Martin said, standing up. He gave Seonghyeon a slight shove toward the door. "Go touch grass or something. Blow off some steam, bro."

"Princess?"

Both of them froze and turned to the door. Keonho was leaning against the frame, a shit-eating grin on his face.

Martin instantly turned a red. "Get out!" he yelped, trying to shove both of them into the hallway. But Seonghyeon wasn't having it. He pushed back, Keonho gave Seonghyeon a shove from behind, and suddenly it was a chaotic shoving match in the doorway, with Martin cursing a streak in English.

Amid the chaos, Seonghyeon saw Keonho's arm shoot out and wrap around Martin's neck, grabbing it.

Martin let out a dramatic scream while Keonho absolutely lost it, howling with laughter.

But Seonghyeon? He felt something nasty in his chest. Like something cold and heavy settling in his gut. His fingers curled into fists so tight his nails probably left marks on his palm.

In one swift move, he snatched Keonho's arm away and physically pushed him out the door, slamming it shut on his startled "Eyoo, wtf?!"

Silence.

Martin was just staring at him, for what felt like the hundredth time that day, completely bewildered.

Seonghyeon's chest was heaving. "What did you feel from that?" he demanded.

"Uh... shame? Weirded out? " Martin stammered, totally lost.

"Good."

And with that, Seonghyeon turned and walked out, leaving Martin standing alone in the middle of his studio, thoroughly confused.

Outside, Keonho immediately threw an arm around Seonghyeon's neck, and the two of them started bickering as they walked away, their voices fading down the hall.

Keonho: -sent a picture-

Juhoon: what r we looking at?

Juhoon: and why r we looking at an elephant?

Keonho: we should address the elephant in the room

Martin: he likes me. Im his fav

Juhoon: we know

James: we know

Keonho: we all know

Seonghyeon felt… off. Weighed down. Was he stressed? Stressed about what though?

Is he sad that Martin has a bestier friend?

No. That was stupid. Martin could have other friends. He has other friends. And Martin was an open book, he told Seonghyeon everything. He even explained the tiktok incident to him.

But then why had Martin looked so… shy? Actually shy. And he’d basically admitted he liked it when people touched his neck. Was that his love language or something?

A whole list of Martin Facts started scrolling in his brain, unprompted.

Martin is sensitive. He overthinks everything. He word vomits when he's nervous. He unironically loves those weird food combinations. He laughs at the dumbest stuff. He sleeps with his arms up. He has that weird obsession with Pharrell Williams. He’s a total dog person.

And now, a new entry was being added to the file labeled Martin-Hyung in his mind. Love Language: Neck Touches.

A follow up question, intrusive and immediate: And… does he like being treated like a princess? Maybe I should watch him more closely and-

…Wait.

Why was he thinking about Martin? Since when did he have a whole mental catalog of Martin related stuff?

His train of thought screeched to a halt as he looked down. His hand was clutching a bar of mint chocolate. Martin’s favorite. And his feet were automatically carrying him back toward Martin’s studio.

Why? Because after all that drama, Martin had looked so embarrassed. And Seonghyeon had just… wanted to cheer him up. He’d left to go buy him this.

The pieces clicked into place with terrifying final clarity.

Oh.

…Oh, god.

He remembers opening Martin’s door, throwing the chocolate at his face and then sprinting back to the practice room. He remembers grabbing Keonho by the arm, dragging him into the hallway, and spilling his entire, terrifying realization to him.

And now he’s just… staring. Waiting for Keonho to say something, his own heart pounding in his ears.

Keonho blinks, processing. "So," he says, the word slow and deliberate. "You like-like Martin Hyung."

Seonghyeon lets out a breath he didn't know he was holding. "Yeah."

"And-okay-can I ask questions?" Keonho’s voice was uncharacteristically serious.

"Sure," Seonghyeon mutters, bracing for the teasing.

But when he looks up, Keonho’s face holds only genuine, wide eyed curiosity. All the snide remarks Seonghyeon was preparing for just vanished.

"Why do you like him?" Keonho asks, tilting his head. "Like, specifically."

Seonghyeon opens his mouth, but no sound comes out. How do you explain a feeling that’s a collection of a million tiny, stupid things? The list in his head starts scrolling again, too fast to say out loud.

So instead of speaking, he whips his phone out, unlocks it, and starts typing furiously into his notes app. He needs to get it out, to make it make sense. Also no way in hell he is saying all this while looking at Keonho.

He types:

He laughs at my dumbest jokes. Like, really laughs. It makes me feel funnier than I am.

He gets shy and his whole face turns red and he can’t make eye contact. I want to see that more.

He has strong opinions about pineapple pizza. Who does that? It’s so weird. I love it.

He talks to himself when he’s concentrating. Little whispers. It’s the most distracting, adorable thing I’ve ever seen.

He sent me a playlist last week and the title was just “cheer up bro”

I bought mint chocolate today without even thinking because I saw it and thought of him. It’s becoming a habit.

He types until his thumbs ache, then shoves the phone into Keonho’s hands without a word.

Keonho takes it, his eyes scanning the screen. His expression shifts from curiosity to something softer, a slow smile spreading across his face. He looks up at Seonghyeon, who feels like he might combust from all the vulnerability.

"Okay," Keonho says, handing the phone back. His voice is quiet, almost impressed. "Yeah. That's... a lot. That's really specific, man."

He slings an arm around Seonghyeon's shoulders, his grin turning into something more scheming.

"So," he says, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "What's the plan? How are you going to tell him?"

“I figured out his love language.”

Keonho’s eyes lit up with gleeful mischief. “Oh hell yeah. So like, use it on him until he notices?”

“Yeah,” Seonghyeon nodded, a slow, determined smile spreading on his own face. “Gotta see if he’s comfortable with it…coming from me. See if I stand a chance.”

“That’s a solid plan,” Keonho agreed, nodding along.

Feeling confident from Keonho’s support, Seonghyeon voiced the scary, exciting part. “And if he is okay with it… I’ll confess. Do you think… we could keep a secret relationship?”

Keonho snorted, “No. But like,” he shrugged, “what difference would it be than just two dudes being, like, weirdly close best friends? You’re already halfway there.”

Seonghyeon blinked. He was right.

“..true,” he said, the reality of it making him feel giddy. “Okay. We got this.”

“You got this, dude,” Keonho confirmed, giving his shoulder a squeeze.

And that was how Seonghyeon officially launched Operation: Date Martin. Phase one: accidental (but totally intentional) neck touches. Phase two: win the heart of the boy who loves mint choco, pineapple pizza, and, just maybe, him.

It was a cold day. Seonghyeon, while wearing his oversized hoodie, managed to build up a  static charge. He reached out to touch Martin. A visible spark jumped from his finger to Martin's skin, right on the curve where his neck met his shoulder. Martin yelped, more from surprise than pain, his hand flying to the spot.

"I got static." Seonghyeon said, laughing at Martin’s shocked face before he then gently brushed the spot with his hand. "Did it hurt?"

The initial shock was nothing compared to the gentle stroke that followed. Martin just shook his head, speechless. But he didn’t pull away.

After an intense practice, Martin was bent over, hands on his knees, sweat dripping down his neck. Seonghyeon walked by and, without a word, used the bottom of his own shirt to gently wipe the sweat from the back of Martin's neck. The soft fabric of the shirt and the fleeting touch of Seonghyeon's knuckles against his overheated skin made Martin jolt upright. Seonghyeon just gave him a lazy, satisfied smile. "Rest for a while, hyung," was all he said before tossing a water bottle to Martin and walking away, satisfied.

They were play fighting in the practice room, and Seonghyeon managed to get Martin in a loose headlock.

"Give up?" Seonghyeon laughed.

"Never!" Martin squirmed, but Seonghyeon didn't tighten his grip. Instead, his hold softened. His hand came up, his thumb making slow, deliberate circles on the tense muscle at the side of his neck. The fight drained out of Martin instantly, replaced by a stunned stillness.

"Okay," Martin breathed out, barely a whisper. "I give up."

Martin let out a low groan, rolling his shoulders after being hunched over his laptop for six hours straight. The back of his head was pulsing in that not a headache but soon will be way.

A shadow fell over him. "You done?"

Before Martin could reply, warm hands settled on his shoulders. Seonghyeon’s thumbs dug into the tight knots at the nape of his neck, his fingers curving around to press into the stiff muscle.

Martin’s entire body went limp with a relieved sigh. "Oh… wow."

"Take small breaks while working," Seonghyeon murmured, his voice low and close. His thumbs worked in slow, deliberate circles, moving from the base of Martin’s skull down to his shoulders, then back up, his touch firm and knowing. It was anything but casual. It was an intentional, focused mission to unravel him right there in his chair. Martin’s head lolled forward, all coherent thought dissolving under the pressure.

Just then, the studio door creaked open. It was like a deja vu.

"Well, well, well," Keonho's voice cut through, laced with pure glee. "Is this-? Actually I have no idea what’s happening here."

Seonghyeon’s hands froze. Martin jerked upright, his neck flushing.

Keonho leaned against the doorframe, his grin wide enough to split his face. "Don't stop on my account!"

"Get lost, Keonho," Seonghyeon said, his ears turning a brilliant shade of red. He snatched his hands back as if burned.

Keonho chuckled, “Just so you know, I think you got the green light. Go for it.”

Martin’s eyes darted between a fuming Seonghyeon and the doorway where Keonho’s cackles had just faded.

Seonghyeon took a shaky breath, trying to sound as casual as possible. “So,” he started, refusing to make eye contact. “Hypothetically… do you, uh, swing both ways?”

Martin just stared. The silence stretched, so loud Seonghyeon could hear his own heartbeat pounding in his ears. Finally, Martin’s mouth opened, and Seonghyeon felt himself gulp.

“Let me get this straight,” Martin said, his voice dangerously calm. “Keonho just basically literally told you to ‘go for it.’ And your big, follow up question is to ask me if I like guys?”

“Just ignore Keonho,” Seonghyeon pleaded, his casual act crumbling. “But yes. Yeah. So? Do you?”

A slow, knowing look dawned on Martin’s face. “This… could only mean one thing.”

“Yes! So, do you??”

Before Martin could answer, producer Lee came in, “What’s up? How’s the producing going? Heard you hit a creative block.” Martin goes back to his computer and Seonghyeon left the room.

The dorm room was too small and too quiet. Martin was lying on his bed, scrolling through his phone without seeing it. Seonghyeon was at his desk, just three steps away, typing on his laptop. The air between them was thick with things unsaid.

It had been like this for a week. A weird, careful tension. Since the almost confession, every accidental brush felt like a spark, every look held for a second too long. It was thrilling and utterly exhausting. They’d gone from easy, shoving each other friends to this… whatever this was. Two people hyper aware of each other’s every breath.

Seonghyeon got up to get a charger from his bedside table. As he passed Martin’s bed, the hem of his hoodie brushed against Martin’s outstretched hand.

It was nothing. A whisper of fabric. But Martin’s whole hand tingled. He curled his fingers into, as if trying to trap the sensation.

He watched Seonghyeon’s back, the line of his shoulders under the soft gray material. He missed him. It was the stupidest thought in the world, because he was right there. But he missed the weight of Seonghyeon’s arm slung casually around his neck. He missed the way Seonghyeon would shove him playfully, the easy, unthinking contact. Now, every touch was overthought, charged, and then quickly withdrawn.

Seonghyeon sat back down at his desk, and the distance felt unbearable.

Martin couldn't take it anymore. He let out a quiet, frustrated sigh and swung his legs off the bed. Seonghyeon didn't turn around, but Martin saw his typing falter for a second.

He walked the three steps. He stopped behind Seonghyeon’s chair. He could see the faint, tired tension in the line of his neck.

Slowly, giving him every chance to pull away, Martin leaned down and hugged him, put his arms around Seonghyeon.

Seonghyeon went completely still. The typing stopped.

For a long moment, Seonghyeon just sat there, rigid. Then, a shuddering breath escaped him, and he melted back into the touch, his head lolling back towards Martin.

“Missed this,” Seonghyeon mumbled, his voice rough and low.

Martin’s heart squeezed. “Yeah,” he whispered, not moving from his position.

“Got in my head,” Seonghyeon admitted. “Thought… I don’t know what I thought.”

“Stop thinking,” Martin said softly.

He felt Seonghyeon relax further. Then, Seonghyeon’s hand came up and covered Martin’s. He laced their fingers together and gave a gentle pull.

Understanding, Martin stepped around the chair. Seonghyeon got up, his gaze open and a little vulnerable. He tugged again, and Martin went, settling on Seonghyeon’s bed together. It was awkward and a little clumsy, but then Seonghyeon’s arms were around him, holding him close, his face buried in Martin’s hoodie.

Martin wrapped his own arms around Seonghyeon’s neck, his fingers finding their way back into his hair. The tension finally, completely, shattered. The room was still small, but it no longer felt quiet. It felt full. Full of the sound of their breathing, and the simple  relief of finally being close again.

“So you were asking if i liked guys.” Martin whispers against Seonghyeon.

Seonghyeon chuckled, “yeah. So, for the last time, do you like guys or not..?”

“Is this really how you’re confessing?” Martin teased, making the other groan.

“I. Like. You, Martin. So what do you say? Can I take you out?”

Martin blinked. Then, a tiny, mischievous frown appeared. “Wait. Is that why you were touching my neck so much? Rubbing?”

Seonghyeon flushed a spectacular shade of red. Oh god.

But then Martin’s face softened into a dazed, tired smile. “Oh. Wait. Yeah. I do. Like you, I mean. And yes, I’ll go out with you.” ”

The relief that washed over Seonghyeon was so intense it left him dizzy. A slow, disbelieving grin spread across his face.

“Okay,” Seonghyeon breathed out, “Okay. Good.”

Martin’s smile turned a little wobbly. "So..." he started, his voice soft.

"Official Boyfriend Duties start now," Seonghyeon declared, smiling at Martin.

Martin’s eyes crinkled. "Oh yeah? And what does that mean?"

"First," Seonghyeon said with mock seriousness. "I'm telling everyone that I'm the official choker."

Martin let out a loud, despairing groan, "Can we please erase that from history?"

Seonghyeon just laughed, grabbing Martin's hands. "No way. Everyone thinks you have some secret partner, and I can't have that. They need to know it's me. Only me."

"Also," Martin mumbled, his cheeks flushed, looking down. "Just for the record... actual choking is... different than what you were doing. It's not just... neck touches. In case you, you know... had the wrong idea. But you're still my official... yeah." He trailed off, stammering.

Seonghyeon's expression softened. "Hey. It's okay to have weird love languages, you know. If you like it, I want to be the one to do it for you. All of them. So just tell me what you need."

Martin took a shaky breath, his voice dropping to a whisper. "So... it's the feeling. When it feels like I can't breathe... just for a second."

Seonghyeon blinked up at him, processing. Then, a wave of understanding dawned on his face. "Oh. Oh."

"Uh," Martin whispered, looking away. "It's okay if you're uncomfortable. You really don't have to-"

"No," Seonghyeon cut him off, his voice firm but incredibly gentle, "I love it. I like it. I will do it for you."

The tension drained from Martin's shoulders. "Okay."

They laid there, legs tangled, existing in the comfortable silence that had finally returned to them. Martin was tracing idle patterns on Seonghyeon's arm.

Seonghyeon’s voice was a quiet rumble under Martin’s ear. "Can I try something?"

Martin stilled his fingers. He knew, instantly, what he meant. The air in the room shifted, growing heavier, charged. He nodded against Seonghyeon. "Yeah."

"Look at me," Seonghyeon whispered. And Martin did. Seonghyeon’s expression was serious, his gaze searching Martin’s for any flicker of doubt. There was none.

Slowly, giving him every chance to pull away, Seonghyeon shifted them. He guided Martin onto his back, hovering over him, caging him in. His eyes never left Martin's.

"Tell me the second you want me to stop," Seonghyeon said, his voice low and unwavering. "The second."

"I will," Martin breathed out, his heart beginning to hammer against his ribs in anticipation.

Seonghyeon’s hand came up, but it didn't go straight to his throat. He first cupped Martin’s jaw, his thumb stroking his cheekbone in a gesture so tender it made Martin’s breath stutter.

Then, his hand slid down.

His palm settled against the column of Martin’s throat, warm and firm. His fingers curled around the side, his thumb resting on the other. The pressure was present, but light.

Martin’s eyes fluttered closed for a second, his body arching slightly into the touch. It was different. It wasn't a casual brush or a comforting massage. This felt like a claim.

"Okay?" Seonghyeon whispered, his breath ghosting over Martin's face.

"More," Martin gasped, the word barely audible.

Seonghyeon’s gaze darkened with a mix of awe and desire. He increased the pressure, just a fraction. Martin could feel it now, the constriction, the slight compression. His lungs tightened, and the world began to narrow to this single point of contact, to Seonghyeon’s intense eyes watching his every reaction. Colors swam at the edges of his vision, every sound muffled except for their ragged breathing.

He felt utterly vulnerable, completely at Seonghyeon's mercy. And he had never felt safer in his life.

Seonghyeon’s thumb stroked the frantic pulse beating in Martin’s throat, a soothing counterpoint to the pressure. He was watching, reading him like a book, his entire being focused on Martin.

Just as the lack of air began to crest from sensation into discomfort, Seonghyeon released the pressure entirely.

But he didn't pull his hand away. He kept it there, a warm, possessive weight, as Martin drew in a sharp, shuddering gasp. His chest heaved, oxygen flooding back into his system, making him dizzy.

Seonghyeon leaned down, his forehead resting against Martin's. Their breaths mingled, hot and uneven.

"Was that..." Seonghyeon started, his voice rough with emotion.

Martin didn't let him finish. He surged up, capturing Seonghyeon’s lips in a desperate, searing kiss. It was his answer. It was yes, and thank you.

When they broke apart, panting, Martin’s voice was wrecked. "Yeah," he breathed. "That was it."

A look of profound relief and fierce possession crossed Seonghyeon’s face. He gathered Martin into his arms, holding him so tightly it was almost another form of breathlessness.

Feeling content, Seonghyeon secretly whipped out his phone behind Martin's back. With his other hand he possessively grabbed Martin's nape, he turned his head slightly and pressed a soft, quick kiss to the side of his neck.

Click.

He sent the picture to the group chat and locked his phone before Martin could even process it.

Martin, who had just felt the kiss and the camera shutter, started giggling, a bright, happy sound that vibrated through Seonghyeon's entire being. Seonghyeon held him tighter, his own heart feeling so full he thought it might burst. He had never, ever been this happy.
