Chapter Text
Rodrick Heffley was a loser. In fact his whole band was just a bunch of losers and everyone knew it, so when you first got the message from your friend, Tam, about Rodrick throwing a party you assumed it was going to suck and only went for shits and giggles.
And at first it was, it was boring and everything you expected it to be, but just as you were about to leave some chubby kid started a conga line and suddenly everyone was dancing.
Great music, wide variety of snacks and lots of drinks, maybe Rodrick wasn’t a total loser after all.
Once the conga line breaks up, everyone keeps dancing, everyone but Rodrick who's trying to speak to a completely disinterested girl.
He looks like he’s trying so hard to get her to pay attention, for a moment you feel bad for him, bad enough that you feel the urge to go up to them. After scanning the room and being unable to find your best friend, Tam, you decide 'Fuck it' and actually go up to them.
"Hey Rodrick," You push yourself in between Rodrick and the girl, basically pushing her aside. "Cool party."
A wave of disappointment passes through him as he sees the girl leave but then his eyes fall on you and, oh boy, does he like what he sees.
"Uh, yeah, thanks." He take a sip of his red cup trying to act casual but his nervous body language give him away.
Looking at him closer, you start to realize that Rodrick isn’t half bad, in fact he’s actually kinda hot. His hair is messy but in a way that makes you want to rake your hands through it and make it messier and his smudged eyeliner is doing things you never thought eyeliner could do.
Never in a million years did you ever think that you would be trying to come up with conversation starters with Rodrick of all people but here you were.
"So you're in a band?" You ask even though you already know. He seems to light up at this and you take a note of how much he likes his band.
"Yeah, we're called Löded Diper," He explains. "And once, we played so loud we made people's eardrums bleed."
You can't help but laugh at that, not because you found it funny but because he looks oddly proud of himself which you, somehow, find endearing.
"Alright Heffley, you're definitely not what I expected."
"What did you expect?" He takes on a more flirtatious tone as he leans on the edge of the counter.
"I don't know, I though you'd be lamer." You shrug, never breaking eye contact.
A smug grin appears on his face. "So you think I'm cool?"
"Don't get ahead of yourself emo boy," You grin back. "You're still lame, just not as lame as I thought."
The noise of the party fades into the background and all you can focus on is how close you are to Rodrick, all you had to do was lean up slightly and you'd be kissing his plump lips. The thought brings a wave of heat to flood your cheeks but Rodrick doesn't seem to notice as you catch his gaze drifting down to your lips and you smirk as you lean up almost touching his lips to your own.
"What're you waiting for, Heffley?" You tease and that's all it takes for Rodrick to close the gap between you.
It starts off slow, hesitant even, like he can't believe this is actually happening and honestly, neither can you but you move your hands up his chest and behind his neck, pulling him closer. It's not long before your tongue is in his mouth and his hands slide down your hips, pressing you to him. It feels like the rest of the world's disappeared, it's just you and Rodrick.
Until the moment gets ruined by the little chubby kid.
"Your brother's kissing a girl!" He yells to his taller friend - Rodrick's brother - right as the music quietens down.
Everyone turns to look at you for what feels like ages before the music turns up again and everyone goes back to their partying.
Rodrick makes a beeline for his brother and the chubby kid muttering 'I'm gonna kill them' as they run away from him.
You get over your embarrassment soon enough, in fact, a smile forms on your face from the ridiculousness of it all, and you chase after Rodrick, promptly catching up to him and grabbing his arm.
"Hey, it's ok." You say between giggles. "You can kill them later."
When Rodrick sees that you're not mad, he relaxes a bit.
"You bet I will." He half jokes.
Now that the moment's over, everything feels awkward all of a sudden. You realize you're still grabbing his arm and drop it immediately. Neither of you know what to say, so you just end up staring at each other with mouths open but no words coming out.
Out of the corner of your eye, you see Tam running outside looking like shes about to throw up and you take that as your leave.
"Um, I should go." You make a vague gesture to Tam, Rodrick turns to look at her.
"Ah, ok," He looks like he wants to say something but stops himself. "I’ll see you in school then?"
"Yeah." You say, not sure if you mean it as you make your way towards Tam.
Once you reach your friend, you help her outside and sit her on the steps in hopes of getting her to sober up a bit. You rub soothing circles on her back as you go over everything that happened.
Suddenly Tam speaks up beside you.
"Rodrick." She turns to face you, her eyes glassy. "You kissed him?"
"Yeah, I guess I did." You shrug still confused about the situation yourself.
"But why are you kissing him? You know how much of a loser he is." She looks disgusted at the thought.
Honestly, it was the same question you were asking yourself but you didn't have an answer for it. Maybe is was just a heat of the moment thing.
"I don't know, I wasn't thinking straight." You shrug. "It was probably because of the drink."
"So you don't like him?" Tam raises her brow at you. God, she was judgy when she was drunk.
"Of course not. He's such a loser, can you imagine how embarrassing it would be to date Rodrick Heffley?" You joke with Tam as you start to get up.
"Yeah, you're right, that would be like social suicide for you." Tam stumbles upright as well and holds onto your arm for support.
"Come on, let's go home." You hold onto Tam as you leave the Heffleys front yard completely unaware of Rodrick behind you.
He had come out to bring a cup of water for your friend and ended up hearing the best part of the conversation. Rodrick chucks the cup on the ground, not caring that it splashed on some people, and storms back inside.
Stupid.
He feels so stupid for thinking that the kiss meant something, but of course it didn't, girls like you were never interested in guys like him.
