Cheer

Summary:

Hyde watches Jackie cheer.

Drabble I post on Tumblr. I decided to post it here.

Work Text:

Hell would freeze over before he would ever admit this, but Jackie cheering… was his favorite fucking thing in the world. He had been watching her cheer for the last three years, even though he had never actually been to a game. He would never lower himself to cheer for Point Place. The only thing he would ever cheer was watching the damn place burn to the ground. However, there was a spot in the parking lot that lined up perfectly with where the cheerleaders stood and did their routines. What normal hot blooded teenage boy wouldn’t want to watch girls in short skirts bounce around? In this area, he was one of the crowd. Though if he was honest, he only had eyes for Jackie. The high ponytail, her big cheer ribbon, her butt skimming skirt, and tight sweater turned him on in an instant. What he would only ever admit to himself was more than how smoking hot she looked. It was the glow coming off her that really did it for him. He loved watching her light up like a comet blazing across the sky. The intense joy that overcame her made him near delirious. Because he knows Jackie’s life is less than perfect. He hated when that sucked the sunshine out of her. He loved it when she was happy, her joy was his. You could see a mile away, she loved it…..that she was proud of what she was doing. Even when she annoyed the living hell out of him, it had been impossible to not be entranced by it. What no one knew was even when she was dating fucking Kelso, he would often disappear on Friday nights so he could sit in the parking lot and watch her cheer. It simply filled him up. More than that…he hated her coming out of those games so late. Kelso was never the type to worry about Jackie’s safety, but damn, guys are assholes, and she had to walk out to the parking lot in the pitch dark. He didn’t then, and he didn’t now want some fucker hassling her. He always made sure to watch her until she was safe in her car or now his. So, here he sat, waiting for her to come out from cheering her heart out. She conned everyone else to come watch, but he had told her no. At least not in the way she wanted.  A guy’s gotta have a line, and sitting in the damn stands watching high school football was his. Besides, he liked she didn’t know he watched her from the shadows. He had told her he would pick her up, and they would grab something to eat after. She had been on fire tonight. Her satin hair bouncing wildly, her voice echoing above everyone else's, and her small but tight body tumbling fearlessly. He couldn’t help but think his girlfriend was hotter than hell, and no one had her but him. Steven James Hyde, the town burnout bad boy, called the Princess of Point Place his. There was no mistaking they were together. All his earlier worries about her being ashamed of him at school have been washed away in a flurry of kisses in the hallway, her wearing his coat like a badge of honor, but the best…..her telling the cheerleading squad to basically fuck off after they gave her a hard time for dating him. Shortly after school started, Kat Peterson and her little minions had descended on Jackie.  He had watched it all go down. Jackie had been stretching for cheer practice when, like a rabid pack of wolves, they attacked. Kat had tore in without hesitation.

“Jackie, I saw you with Hyde today. I heard all about your summer romp with him. Isn’t he delicious? I assume you and Kelso will be getting back together soon.”

He had watched Jackie smile brightly at that bitch Kat. There had only bit a slight edge to her voice, like she couldn’t be bothered.

“I’m not getting back together with Kelso. I’m with Steven.”

Kat had laughed and given Jackie a condescending look,

“Oh come on Jackie, Hyde’s good for an incredible screw or a revenge fuck. I don’t blame you for using him to get back at Kelso. I mean, we’ve all taken our turn with Hyde, but no one stays in burnout land.”

He had decided to step in. He hadn’t wanted her to think she couldn’t handle it, but he wanted to show her his support.

“Hey Doll”

Jackie had looked at Kat and laughed, “Oh please Kat, you’re just jealous Steven kept his one time screw rule in effect for you.”

He had nearly choked with laughter. He had waited for Kat to fight back, but Jackie hadn’t given her a chance. With menace and disdain, she had finished Kat off.

“He told me I’m the best he has ever had, and the only girl he can actually have a real conversation with. I guess that’s why I’m his girlfriend and not his fuck buddy.”

He had grabbed and kissed her fiercely. He would never get tired watching her burn people to the ground. God, she really was something else.

Hyde was shook out of his thoughts by the light crunch of gravel. He looked up to find her skipping towards him. His jean jacket on, wisps of hair escaping her ponytail, her skirt swaying, and giant smile on her face. He pushed off the car and opened his arms. She snuggled in immediately, already talking,

“I was on fire tonight. You missed it.”

Hyde smiled into her hair, and murmured,

“Believe me doll, I didn’t miss a thing.”
