I Would Do Anything (For You)

Summary:

It took seconds, maybe, or days before it was over. Before Finney packed the phone with dirt and gave the hijo de puta a run for his money Robin had never been given the opportunity to bring.

And then he was gone, Albert… and Finney.

And Robin was left alone again, him and the rest of the dead who never stood a chance.

OR

A look at Robin's afterlife post The Grabber.

Work Text:

The line went dead with the click of the receiver settling back into place, and Robin watched Finney with a distance in his eye he couldn’t help but feel a little guilty about.

It was odd, as untethered as he was without a physical body to dwell in any longer he shouldn’t be able to have an adrenaline rush anymore, but that was undeniably what he was experiencing.

The fear and tension that had plagued him in these four walls, and which had spiked to new highs since watching his best friend’s arrival, was buried beneath the rush of blood that no longer beat in his body.

Robin walked to what was left of the black phone and picked up Finney’s little rocket light. Just to hold it. Just to look at all that would ever be trapped of Finney Blake in this hell on earth.

It felt like grief and relief and an envy so deep it ached as bad as the cuts permanently pressed into his skin.

It was worth it, if it had to happen to keep Finney alive, Robin had to believe it was worth it.

He couldn’t say how long he stood there, staring at a relic, until an odd sensation deep in his gut had him walking through dirt to the other basement.

He’d never really spent much time over here, not like Griffin had. too unsettled by earth that caged his remains to dare it for long. But the sight before him now was enough to qualify for an exception.

Agents and officers in all kinds of uniforms crawled over the loose soil, gently removing and piecing together the bodies hidden beneath it.

Robin recognized his own dark hair and followed along behind the bag it had been placed in as a group of adults moved it up the stairs.

He followed it through weird office buildings and morgues he never really thought he’d have to see.

And when it was placed into a cedar box and lowered once more into a little patch of Denver dirt, he clicked on the little rocket light and slipped it between his own ribs.

If he couldn’t have a heart at least he’d have Finney.
