After The Dust Settles (continuation)

Work Text:

Part 1 – The Morning After

The first rays of sunlight crept through the thin curtains, spilling across the common room floor in warm, lazy stripes. Itadori stirred, one arm flopped over his eyes, and a soft groan escaped him. For once, the world didn’t feel heavy with cursed energy or the echoes of their last mission — it was just… quiet. Peaceful. Almost painfully so.

He squinted against the light, and the haze of sleep slowly cleared. The room looked smaller than usual, cozier somehow, like it had shrunk overnight to hold all of them just a little closer.

And then he noticed.

Fushiguro was on the couch across from him, sprawled in a way that somehow made him look simultaneously comfortable and impossibly tense. He was awake, eyes half-lidded, staring somewhere over Itadori’s shoulder. Kugisaki, tucked in her blanket in the corner, was barely awake herself, hair tousled in a way that made her look soft — softer than Itadori had ever thought possible.

His chest warmed at the sight. They were both here, both alive, both… his.

“Morning,” he said softly, barely above a whisper.

Fushiguro’s gaze flicked toward him. “Morning,” he replied, voice low, still half-asleep, but there was an almost imperceptible softness in his tone.

Kugisaki groaned, rolling onto her side to glare at him with one eye half-shut. “You’re up way too early, idiot.”

Itadori grinned, stretching, pretending to yawn. “Sun’s up. Nature calls. Also, someone’s got to make breakfast.”

She snorted, pulling the blanket tighter around her shoulders. “Yeah, you’ll burn the kitchen down before you even boil water.”

Fushiguro didn’t say anything, but his lips twitched, betraying the faintest smirk.

Itadori’s grin widened. “See? You agree.”

Kugisaki shot him a look, but there was no fire in it. Just a quiet amusement, one that made his chest flutter in a way it never had before. He realized — slowly, warmly — that seeing her like this, in the calm aftermath of the mission, made him feel… protective. Tender. Something deeper than friendship.

The morning passed in a lazy haze of small gestures. Itadori tried — and spectacularly failed — to make pancakes, spilling batter on the counter and on Fushiguro’s hand when he reached over to help.

“Watch it,” Fushiguro muttered, flicking the batter off, though he didn’t move away.

“Sorry! It’s my first time,” Itadori said, grinning sheepishly.

Kugisaki rolled her eyes but leaned in anyway, brushing some stray batter off his cheek with her finger. The contact was brief, but it made Itadori’s heart skip. Fushiguro’s eyes darkened for a second as he watched the gesture, jaw tightening almost imperceptibly.

The pancakes were a disaster. The kitchen smelled slightly of smoke. But none of them cared.

Instead, they sat cross-legged on the floor, plates in their laps, teasing and laughing, the kind of laughter that hurt in the best way — the kind that made your chest feel full and light all at once.

“You know,” Itadori said between bites, “I think we work best as a team when we’re not literally trying to survive death every five minutes.”

Kugisaki snorted. “Says the guy who almost set the pan on fire.”

“And the guy who tried to kill me with a rogue spatula,” Fushiguro added flatly.

“You two are relentless,” Itadori said, laughing.

Fushiguro’s gaze lingered on him a beat longer than necessary, and Itadori caught it. The way his dark eyes softened, the faint curve at the edge of his lips. Something unspoken passed between them — and Itadori’s stomach did a little flip.

Kugisaki, ever perceptive in her own way, noticed too. She pretended to check her phone, hiding a small, knowing smile, but the warmth she felt in her chest betrayed her.

Later, the three of them found themselves sprawled on the couch together, more by accident than design. Itadori’s head rested lightly on Fushiguro’s shoulder, and Kugisaki had somehow curled herself against his other side, blanket pooling around all three of them.

The quiet that settled over the room wasn’t awkward. It was comfortable, almost intimate. Their breathing synced in some unspoken rhythm, hearts beating a little faster for no reason they would admit.

Itadori’s hand twitched toward Fushiguro’s arm, just barely brushing against it, and he felt the tiniest reaction — a subtle shift, a slight tightening of the muscles under his palm. Fushiguro didn’t move away. He didn’t even flinch.

Kugisaki leaned her head slightly closer to Itadori, her hair brushing his shoulder. The brush of warmth made him turn just enough to catch her gaze. Their eyes met.

Something shifted.

Itadori swallowed, heart pounding, and whispered, “Kugisaki… Megumi… I…”

He didn’t know how to finish the sentence. Words felt too clumsy. Too small. But the look in his eyes said it all.

Kugisaki tilted her head, lips parting in that signature defiant-but-soft way. Fushiguro’s jaw tightened, and then he did something unexpected — he leaned in just slightly, enough that his temple brushed Itadori’s.

Itadori froze, breath catching.

Kugisaki’s hand reached for his, lightly, almost testing the waters. He took it without thinking, thumb brushing against hers.

And then…

Fushiguro’s lips were on his cheek. Soft, fleeting, electrifying. Itadori’s eyes went wide. His heart practically leapt into his throat.

Kugisaki pressed closer, pressing a quick, teasing kiss to Itadori’s other cheek, her warm breath sending shivers down his spine.

Itadori didn’t move. He didn’t pull away. Not now.

For a long, breathtaking moment, the three of them just existed like that — close, tangled in blankets and quiet heat, tasting the beginnings of something more than friendship.

Fushiguro broke the silence first, voice low and rough with emotion he never admitted out loud:
“You’re… really dense sometimes, Yuji.”

“It’s… a team effort,” Itadori said, grinning despite the flush on his cheeks.

Kugisaki rolled her eyes, but the warmth in her voice betrayed her. “Stop being idiots and admit you like each other already.”

Itadori laughed nervously, looking between them. Fushiguro’s eyes softened in response, and Kugisaki smirked, bold and teasing.

And then — because neither of them could resist anymore — he leaned in and kissed Fushiguro, brief but full of everything he felt. Fushiguro froze a heartbeat, then deepened it, hands brushing against Itadori’s arms.

Kugisaki, not to be outdone, pressed her lips to Itadori’s cheek in return, brushing her hands against his shoulders.

Itadori’s heart nearly exploded. One, two, three hearts tangled together on a quiet morning, in a sunlit room that smelled faintly of burnt pancakes.

The world outside could wait. There was only this. Only them. Only the warmth, the teasing, the laughter, the stolen kisses — the beginnings of something neither of them wanted to name just yet.

And maybe that was enough.

For now.

Part 2 – The Afternoon

The sun had climbed higher, casting gold across the dorm courtyard. Itadori, Fushiguro, and Kugisaki had ventured outside, ostensibly to “get some air,” but really, it was a subtle excuse to linger together without the awkwardness of being in the common room.

Itadori bounced on the balls of his feet, pretending to stretch, but secretly he was buzzing with nervous energy. Every glance at Fushiguro or Kugisaki made his stomach twist in ways that had nothing to do with breakfast — or any meal at all.

Fushiguro, on the other hand, moved like a shadow, composed and seemingly unaffected, though his jaw tightened each time Itadori’s hand brushed against his own.

Kugisaki, ever perceptive and impossibly self-aware, noticed everything. The subtle blush on Itadori’s cheeks when Fushiguro leaned a fraction closer. The small, almost imperceptible flinch of Fushiguro’s shoulder when she stepped too near.

She smirked to herself, crossing her arms, walking just close enough to nudge against both of them.

“You two are ridiculous,” she said, half-laughing, half-serious. “Do you have to act like love-struck idiots every time the sun comes out?”

“It’s not just the sun!” Itadori protested, though his grin betrayed him. “It’s… the… uh… fresh air, yeah! That’s it!”

Fushiguro raised an eyebrow, arms crossed. “Fresh air?” His tone was flat, but the faint lift at the corner of his lips suggested he found Itadori’s flustered state… entertaining.

Kugisaki nudged Itadori with her elbow. “You’re so obvious, you know that?”

He sputtered. “I’m not!”

“You are,” Fushiguro added, and his voice was calm, almost teasing in a way that made Itadori’s ears burn.

Kugisaki laughed softly, stepping closer to Fushiguro. She brushed against him casually, just enough to make him shift slightly. “And you, Mr. Broody, you’re hiding something too. Don’t pretend you don’t feel it.”

Fushiguro’s gaze flicked to her, then to Itadori, then back again. His lips twitched, the closest he’d ever come to a smile outside of battle. “I’m not hiding anything,” he said carefully.

“Right.” Kugisaki raised an eyebrow, clearly not convinced, and Itadori’s grin widened.

The air between them was thick with unspoken words and stolen glances. Every movement — a brush of fingers, a shared glance, a hand lingering near another’s shoulder — seemed amplified. Itadori felt it most keenly when Fushiguro’s hand accidentally (or maybe not) brushed against his own as they reached for the same water bottle.

Their eyes met, and the moment stretched far longer than it should have. Itadori’s heart thudded painfully against his ribs, and Fushiguro didn’t look away.

Kugisaki, seeing the silent exchange, let out a low whistle. “Ohhh, so we’re just gonna… stare at each other all day? That’s cute.”

“It’s not like that!” Itadori protested, but he couldn’t hide the blush creeping up his neck.

Fushiguro’s eyes darkened slightly, almost challenging him without words. Kugisaki’s smirk widened. She leaned closer to Itadori, letting her shoulder brush his, deliberately slow and heavy. “Then why don’t you do something about it?”

Before he could answer, Fushiguro stepped closer, closing the distance in a single, fluid motion. Itadori’s chest tightened. Their eyes locked, and the world seemed to fade around them — the sun, the dorms, even Kugisaki’s amused chuckle in the background.

And then, tentatively, Fushiguro pressed his lips to Itadori’s, soft and fleeting, testing the waters.

Itadori froze for a heartbeat — then melted, hands lifting to rest lightly against Fushiguro’s shoulders. The kiss deepened, just enough to leave them both breathless, but still teasing, still questioning, still playful.

A low laugh drew their attention. Kugisaki was leaning against the railing, watching them with a wide grin. “Finally! About time!” she teased, walking over and wrapping an arm around Itadori’s waist from the other side.

He blinked at her, heart racing. “K-Kugisaki?”

She pressed a quick, teasing kiss to his cheek. “Don’t look so shocked. You two were begging for this, even if you didn’t realize it.”

Itadori’s knees nearly buckled. Fushiguro’s dark eyes met his again, smoldering and amused at the same time, as Kugisaki’s hands squeezed his side lightly.

And then — because none of them could resist the pull anymore — the three of them leaned into each other. Itadori got kisses on both cheeks, one from Fushiguro, one from Kugisaki, and he couldn’t stop laughing despite the heat of his flushed face.

Fushiguro’s hand found the small of Itadori’s back, and Kugisaki’s fingers tangled lightly in his hair. Their lips found his again, one after the other, tentative at first, then more daring. The laughter and teasing mixed with the heat of closeness, the kind of warmth that had nothing to do with the sun.

Itadori’s heart felt like it would burst. He wanted to laugh, to cry, to stay like this forever. He kissed Fushiguro again, then Kugisaki, then Fushiguro — each kiss a little bolder, a little hungrier, full of everything he’d felt but never said.

Kugisaki leaned back, smirking, her breath ragged. “You two are impossible,” she said, but her voice was soft, affectionate. “And you,” she added, turning to Fushiguro, “don’t pretend you’re not enjoying this.”

Fushiguro exhaled, looking between them, and let out the tiniest, almost inaudible laugh. “You’re insufferable,” he said, but he didn’t move away.

Itadori’s grin was wide, cheeks flushed. “We’re just… figuring things out,” he said, voice breathless.

Kugisaki leaned in again, brushing her lips against his cheek with a teasing grin. “Figuring things out, huh? That’s one way to put it.”

Fushiguro’s hand tightened on the small of Itadori’s back, pulling him closer. “Careful. You’re making him blush,” he muttered, but there was something softer there — amusement, fondness, desire.

Itadori’s laughter was lost in the warmth, in the sun, in the press of their bodies close together. Every brush of fingers, every stolen glance, every daring kiss made the world fade away until only the three of them existed — tangled together, hearts racing, caught somewhere between friendship and something far more powerful.

And for the first time since the mission, Itadori realized: he didn’t need to fight curses to feel alive. He didn’t need battles to feel his heart pound. He just needed them. Fushiguro and Kugisaki. Right here. Right now.

And as the sun dipped lower, painting the courtyard in gold and pink, they kissed again — one long, lingering kiss from Fushiguro, a playful one from Kugisaki, and Itadori laughed into both of them, full of warmth, love, and disbelief at just how perfect this moment felt.

The world could wait. The day could wait. They had each other, and for now, that was everything.

Part 3 – The Evening

The sky outside had turned a deep shade of amber, streaked with soft purples and golds as the sun dipped toward the horizon. The dorm courtyard was quiet now, the hum of cicadas punctuating the air, and the faint smell of grass and evening warmth seemed to wrap around the three of them like a soft blanket.

Itadori leaned against the railing, his hands gripping the cool metal, trying to steady the rapid thumping of his heart. Fushiguro stood beside him, arms crossed, eyes trained on the fading light — though occasionally, his gaze flicked to Itadori in ways that made the younger boy’s stomach flip.

Kugisaki came up behind them, leaning on the railing just close enough that her warmth brushed against Itadori’s shoulder. “You two are quiet for once,” she said, her voice teasing but softer than usual.

“It’s… nice,” Itadori admitted. “Just… sitting here. Watching the sunset. With you two.”

Fushiguro’s eyes flicked to him, a faint blush rising in his cheeks. “Yeah,” he said quietly. “It’s nice.”

Kugisaki smirked, elbowing Itadori lightly. “Finally admitting it, huh? About us?”

Itadori laughed nervously. “I mean… I didn’t exactly think I’d need to announce it like a public speech.”

Fushiguro’s lips twitched in what might have been a smirk. “You’re terrible at subtlety,” he muttered.

“I’m not,” Itadori protested, though his cheeks were burning. “I’m… expressive!”

Kugisaki rolled her eyes but leaned closer, brushing her hair against his arm. The contact made his chest tighten, and he felt Fushiguro’s presence shift just slightly, almost instinctively closing the space between them.

The first kiss came from Kugisaki, soft and teasing, pressing her lips against his cheek as she whispered, “Stop looking so nervous.”

Itadori laughed, heart racing, and before he could reply, Fushiguro’s lips were on his other cheek, gentle but deliberate. The contrast between them — playful and commanding — made Itadori’s mind go completely blank.

“Stop it!” he gasped, laughing, though his hands were instinctively reaching toward both of them, pulling them closer.

“Nope,” Kugisaki said, tugging him just slightly toward her. “You started it by smiling at me like that.”

Fushiguro’s hand found the small of Itadori’s back, steadying him, holding him just enough that he couldn’t pull away. “We’re just making sure you understand,” he said, voice low, almost intimate. “That you’re ours.”

Itadori’s breath caught. He opened his mouth to protest, to tease, to do anything, but Fushiguro leaned in, pressing a soft, lingering kiss to his lips. It was tentative at first, testing, then more insistent as he felt Itadori respond, melt against him.

Kugisaki, not to be left out, pressed her lips to Itadori’s other cheek, soft and warm, her fingers brushing his jaw. “Don’t forget me,” she whispered with a playful smirk.

Itadori’s hands moved almost of their own accord, resting on Fushiguro’s chest and Kugisaki’s arm. His heart felt like it might burst from the sheer intensity of their closeness. Every glance, every brush of fingers, every kiss was magnified — laughter and teasing mixing with longing and warmth.

“Alright,” Kugisaki said after a moment, stepping back slightly, though she kept her hands on his shoulders. “I think someone here is enjoying this a little too much.”

Itadori’s grin was wide, cheeks flushed. “Maybe… a lot too much.”

Fushiguro’s dark eyes softened as he watched him. “You’re ridiculous,” he muttered, but his hand lingered on the small of Itadori’s back, fingers brushing against his shirt. “And so are you,” he added, nodding toward Kugisaki, whose own smirk was mischievous but her eyes shone with warmth.

The three of them laughed together, the sound bright and free, echoing across the quiet courtyard. And then, almost without thinking, they leaned into each other again. Itadori’s lips were kissed from both sides — Fushiguro’s slow and deliberate, Kugisaki’s quick and teasing — and he let out a soft, happy laugh.

Fushiguro’s lips lingered longer this time, brushing against Itadori’s in a kiss full of emotion. Itadori’s hands tangled in his hair, pulling him closer, feeling the steady warmth of his body. Kugisaki pressed against him as well, hands sliding over his shoulders, her lips occasionally brushing his neck or cheek in daring little kisses that made his stomach twist with delight.

“You’re insufferable,” Kugisaki said, breathless from laughing, leaning into him. “All three of us are going to regret this later.”

“It’s worth it,” Itadori breathed, eyes closing as Fushiguro pressed a final, lingering kiss to his lips.

The sun slipped lower, casting the courtyard in shades of gold and pink. The world felt suspended, the air heavy with the warmth of their bodies and the electricity of their connection. For the first time, Itadori realized just how much he wanted this — not just the kisses, not just the closeness, but everything. The teasing, the laughter, the quiet moments, the feeling that they were all, irrevocably, connected.

And as the first stars began to twinkle overhead, Fushiguro leaned his forehead against Itadori’s, Kugisaki brushing against his side, and Itadori felt a profound sense of belonging — in their arms, in their hearts, in this shared, tangled, beautiful connection that was theirs alone.

He smiled softly, whispering, “I love this… us.”

Fushiguro’s lips twitched. “Yeah… me too.”

Kugisaki grinned, nuzzling closer. “Finally, you idiots admitted it. Took you long enough.”

And as they laughed, kissed, and held each other close under the evening sky, Itadori knew — somehow — that this was just the beginning.

Part 4 – The Night

Night had fallen completely, draping Jujutsu High in a blanket of deep navy, pierced by the faint glow of dorm lights and stars overhead. The air was cooler now, carrying the subtle scent of grass and the faint lingering warmth of the day.

Itadori, Fushiguro, and Kugisaki had returned to the common room after a long, lazy evening in the courtyard. The room was dimly lit by a single lamp, casting soft shadows across the familiar furniture. It felt impossibly intimate, as though the world outside had ceased to exist.

Itadori flopped onto the couch first, exhaustion from the day catching up to him, but a bright grin lingered on his face. Fushiguro sank down beside him, quiet and composed as always, though Itadori could feel the barely restrained energy humming just beneath the surface of his calm demeanor.

Kugisaki hovered nearby, arms folded but leaning against the back of the couch, a playful smirk on her lips. “Don’t think you’re going to get off easy tonight,” she teased, though the warmth in her eyes betrayed her.

Itadori laughed softly, stretching out his arms. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

The three of them sat in a comfortable silence for a few moments, the only sounds the faint hum of the lamp and the soft rustle of their clothing as they shifted.

Then, almost instinctively, they leaned toward each other. Itadori’s hands found Fushiguro’s arm, brushing it lightly, while Kugisaki’s hand slid along his shoulder to rest over his own. Their closeness was intoxicating, the quiet tension between them thick with unspoken words and unacknowledged feelings.

Itadori glanced at Fushiguro, heart hammering. “Megumi…”

Fushiguro’s dark eyes met his, steady and serious. “Yeah?”

“It’s… it’s been a long day,” Itadori said, voice soft. “But… being here with you both… it feels right.”

Kugisaki leaned closer, resting her head lightly against Itadori’s shoulder. “You’re mushy when you get sleepy,” she murmured, though her tone was gentle, affectionate.

Fushiguro’s lips curved faintly as he lowered his forehead to Itadori’s, eyes half-closed. “You’re ridiculous,” he said softly. “But… I like it.”

Itadori’s chest swelled at the words, and before he could think, he pressed a kiss to Fushiguro’s lips — slow, tender, searching. Fushiguro responded immediately, one hand tangling lightly in Itadori’s hair, the other resting at the small of his back.

Kugisaki, not to be left out, pressed her lips to Itadori’s cheek, teasing and soft all at once. Her fingers trailed along his jaw, brushing the skin there with the lightest touch. “Don’t forget me,” she whispered.

Itadori laughed softly, turning his head just enough to brush his lips against hers in a quick, warm kiss. The contact sent shivers down his spine, and he realized just how much he’d wanted this — all of this.

Fushiguro’s hand tightened slightly at his back, and Itadori felt the subtle tension in his body, the unspoken desire and protectiveness radiating from him. The warmth of Kugisaki’s body against his side, combined with Fushiguro’s steady presence, made his heart feel impossibly full.

They kissed again — Fushiguro’s lips slow and lingering, Kugisaki’s quick and playful — and each touch, each movement, seemed to weave them closer together. Itadori’s hands moved instinctively, resting on Fushiguro’s chest and Kugisaki’s arm, feeling the steady thrum of their hearts beneath his fingertips.

The laughter, teasing, and stolen kisses continued for what felt like hours. Fushiguro’s rare, subtle smiles and Kugisaki’s bold grins alternated in a perfect rhythm that made Itadori’s chest ache with happiness. Every kiss was a little longer, a little bolder than the last, and yet none of them felt rushed.

Eventually, the three of them settled into a tangle on the couch — Itadori in the middle, Fushiguro leaning against one side, Kugisaki snuggling against the other. The lamp cast a soft glow over their intertwined forms, and for the first time in a long while, the world outside didn’t exist.

Itadori’s voice was barely above a whisper. “I… I think I could stay like this forever.”

Fushiguro’s lips brushed his temple. “Don’t tempt me,” he murmured, voice low and warm.

Kugisaki chuckled softly, pressing a quick kiss to his forehead. “Forever sounds good to me,” she said. “As long as you don’t snore too loudly.”

Itadori laughed, heart full, and leaned into them both. Their hands found his, their fingers tangling, and for the first time, he felt truly, completely at home.

The night stretched on, filled with laughter, teasing, and kisses that spoke of love, longing, and belonging. And as the stars twinkled overhead, the three of them stayed like that — close, tangled, and perfectly content in each other’s arms.

It wasn’t just friendship anymore. It was something deeper. Something they all felt, something they’d finally begun to embrace.

And as they drifted toward sleep, the quiet intimacy of the night wrapped around them, Itadori knew one thing with perfect certainty: no matter what challenges awaited them in the world outside, they would face them together — hearts, hands, and lips intertwined.

And that was more than enough.
