Her chest heaves, her pulse a roar in her ears, and she doesn’t care if he kills her for it.
The grip shifts—tightens—until her jaw aches beneath his fingers. He tilts her face up, forcing her to meet him eye to eye. His breath is hot against her mouth when he speaks, his voice a low growl that crawls down her spine.
“Don’t you dare talk to me like that.”
Her nails dig into his hand, desperate, shaking. “Stop being so mean to me!”
He bares his teeth, a snarl tearing through his throat as her nails draw blood—and before she can think, before she can breathe, her foot snaps up and connects with his shin.
He lets go with a snarl.
