Chapter Text
Fire Spirit handled unrequited feelings fairly well in her own opinion.
It wasn’t self destructive, didn’t hurt anyone other than some ear drums, didn’t cost money aside from cheap notebooks and the occasional new drumsticks… overall pretty healthy.
Song writing. Simple, cliche and relatively healthy.
As she jotted down the words in her head, she nodded along to the beat already forming in her head. She paused, tapping along with her nodding for a moment before continuing on her jotting.
A tap on her shoulder startled her out of her writing, making her reach up to pull her headphones off her head. Stormbringer stared at her, clearly unimpressed.
“What’s got you so distracted huh?” she asked. Fire Spirit flushed, turning away and shutting the notebook on her lap.
“Nothing important, just some ideas floating around.”
A raised eyebrow told her she was not believed.
“Right… totally nothing related to pinning for a certain guitarist?” the bassist remarked.
Fire Spirit flushed and looked away.
“You could just be a normal person and yah know… confess?” Stormbringer suggested “no need for this honestly sad pinning.”
The drummer rolled her eyes.
“Yeah right, when the chances of her actually liking me back are at zero? Didn’t know you wanted to be a comedian Stormy,” she scoffed, slumping back into the sofa." The day she likes me back is the day I actually finish a song beyond a vague chorus.”
Stormbringer looked ready to protest but instead gave a resigned sigh and held out a hand.
“Let me see.” Fire Spirit raised an eye brow. Another sigh, bordering on a groan this time.
“Let me see what you got, maybe we can make something into a proper song to really get this pinning out your system.”
The redhead looked to her notebook, back to Strombringer then back to the notebook. With her own sigh she handed it over.
“Have at it, heads up some of this? I was crying in the middle of the night so the handwriting is awful and smudged."
Stormbringer nodded before flipping open to a random page and starting to read as she plopped herself down on the sofa next to Fire Spirit.
“...I hoped to find something pinning but I think I found the stuff you need to show a therapist,” the bassist commented.
The drummer sighed before leaning over and flipping a few pages.
“Here, some pining,” she dryly presented before melting back into the sofa.
“Thanks.”

Wind Archer considered herself a silent yearner. Subtle, small yet if you looked… you’d see the clear love she had for someone.
Well… one person more than anything.
She pushed the pages to Moonlight, making the other woman look up from her book.
“I need an opinion,” she simply said. The lead singer blinked before picking up the pages and beginning to read them.
“Don’t you usually ask Fire Spirit to read this stuff?” she asked as she read. Wind Archer shook her head.
“Need this to be a surprise for her,” she replied, sitting in the seat opposite her friend.
Moonlight nodded even as she continued to read before pulling the pages from her face and smiling.
“I think she’ll love it, definitely needs refinement but… the flow is great and the lyrics read well,” she commented “would you want someone else to sing it or…?” she raised a questioning eyebrow.
The guitarist flushed slightly, turning away.
“I… may try singing it but… I’ll wait on that for a bit,” she answered the unasked question.
The dark haired woman giggled but nodded excitedly.
“Got it! Let’s get started then, get your guitar so we can get started.”

“That sounds good, could be a little deeper, give the lyrics a try.”
…
“I think it needs… a little boost here, give that beat a try.”
…
“Looks good but… maybe it needs a better flow here, a bit too blunt.”
…
“Hmm what if this rhymed and you added a little… poetic touch?”
“I… I think it needs something like this…”
“Perfect!”

Months later they sat down after rehearsals, taking some time to breath before heading home. Fire Spirit sipped at a can of sweet tea occasionally as she read over a bundle of pages in her hand.
Wind Archer sat on the opposite side of the bench, empty bottle by her side as she read through her own papers.
“What do you have there?” a voice pulled the drummer from her reading. Her head snapped to look over at the source. With gentle curiosity Wind Archer looked at her, calm as ever. Fire Spirit looked to the pages in her hand before placing the drink in her other hand to the side.
“It’s… just something me and Stormy were working on,” Fire Spirit laughed nervously “she said something about getting stuff out of my system instead of letting it just sit in my notes so…yeah”
Wind Archer looked to the pages, all neatly written, notes carefully penciled in.
“Did you only figure out drums and bass for it?” she asked. Fire Spirit swallowed but nodded.
“Yeah, wanted to wait till it was more figured out before showing everyone yah know? Haven’t… exactly written anything this personal before,” she laughed again, a painfully awkward sound as she curled in on herself more.
“...would it be okay if I took a look?” Wind Archer asked softly “you can give mine a look if you want.”
Fire Spirit flushed, looking away.
“You sure…?” she asked quietly. A beat of silence.
A poke to her cheek got her attention. Slowly turning back, she found a bundle of papers in her face.
“It’s not… done but the lyrics and flow basically are so… go ahead,” the guitarist smiled softly. The drummer swallowed, carefully taking the papers before handing over her own.
Without another word, Fire Spirit unfurled herself slightly, taking a deep breath before reading. Be prepared for the criticism of her heart on display… She could manage that. She had to.
…
Wind Archer forced herself not to look at the other woman reading her lyrics, turning her attention to the pages in her hands with a slow, deep breath. Personal… This was personal, be kind and offer only constructive criticism if it’s asked for.
With a slow breath, she began to read.
Notes:
So... the exact songs I imagine they wrote are (Wind Archer) Work Song by Hozier and (Fire Spirit) Vitamin by Cloudy June
