The End Of September Woke Me

Summary:

A collection of drabbles for a collection of prompts!

ft. a variety of ninja in a variety of settings

Notes:

I'm trying to write a single drabble for each prompt, both because it's a good challenge for me as a writer, and because I ran out of time to do anything longer. I've managed four of the seven prompts I got, which I'm pretty happy with.

Chapter Text

“Explain,” Iruka ordered from the doorway.

Naruto threw his paint can and brush out the window. “I came back because I forgot my bag,” he lied instantly. “And I saw someone had painted the classroom red!”

“Naruto,” Iruka began, before sitting down at one of the desks. “You are literally caught red-handed.”

Naruto wiped his hands on his shirt, leaving red marks and not doing much to clean his hands off. “It was someone else.”

“Really.”

“We may never know who,” Naruto tried again. “Though clearly he is a great artist.”

Iruka nodded his head. “But not a great liar.”

Notes:

Prompt: whodunnit but painfully obvious

Chapter Text

It was old, and it was many. It had not been here first, but it had outlasted its elders, and now it considered itself the true power of the region.

They had tamed it, bound it, cut it and pushed it into a cage. It bit back, and got the respect it was due. Its beasts were teeth, and its trees were a belly, ever hungry for more. A forest of mouths, and – for the unwary – a forest of death.

To harden their soldiers, they hosted a game beneath its boughs. And to its delight, they fed it their children.

Chapter Text

“Ten there can be at most,” Pein explained again.

“But he’s a great engineer!” Deidara said. “I don’t understand, why are we turning talent away?”

Pein stared him into submission.

“Madara,” he said later. “We must do something. They’re starting to ask questions.”

Madara always worked from home and always had a Teams filter on. He took a moment to think, though Pein could see nothing behind his gaudy orange mask.

“We’ve been over this. More people means exponentially more merge conflicts. Can you wrangle git?”

Pein was silent for a long while. “I will clamp down on any discontent.”

Notes:

Prompt: Characters work in your line of work (software engineering)

Chapter Text

“Ino’s really fucked it this time,” Sasuke said.

His own voice replied, though it was with Hinata’s hesitant manner. “I don’t want to be stuck like this. Not that there’s anything wrong with your body! It’s just…”

“I know,” Sasuke grumbled. His eyes were still firmly shut. A single look through the Byakugan had been enough to give him a splitting migraine. “Can you handle it any better?”

“No,” his own voice whispered back.

“What next?”

Sasuke thought. “Ino’s technique always eventually ends on its own.”

“But–”

“What?” Sasuke asked.

Hinata was clearly in great distress. “I have to pee.”
