One Simple Little Wish

Summary:

One wish is all it takes. Can Steve throw caution to the wind and get the love of his life back? A magical take on Steve fighting for Catherine.

Notes:

I'm kind of late to the game when it comes to H50 fan fiction, but I've recently finished the whole series and was inspired to write several fics. This is cross posted under the same user name on the FanFiction site. I plan to post some of my others as well. This story incorporates a little bit of supernatural and magic.

Work Text:

They embarked into the warehouse, guns ready for anyone that might be inside. They knew that Heath Radcliffe had a few close associates and guards that were with him at all times and given what was in the warehouse, Steve and his team had no doubts they would all be there. Steve had Danny and Tani with him at the front of the warehouse, while Adam, Grover, and Junior rounded the back of it. “We go on three.” Steve announced into his com link. “One, two, three...” He did a wave forward with his hand signaling to Danny behind him to move forward and slide open he door.

Danny moved in front of Steve, sliding open the door as quietly as he could slide an old metal door. It creaked and screeched as it moved. “So much for the element of surprise...” He said, eyeing his partner as the man advanced in with Tani behind them.

“We're in.” Grover said into the coms.

“Keep you're eyes out, there could be at least six in here with Radcliffe.” Steve reminded them.

It didn't take long to run into adversaries. Of course, they all had their guns blazing. Shots started going off as Radcliffe's men realized they were being ambushed.

“Watch the art...” Radcliffe shouted amongst the gunfire as a few stray bullets nicked a wooden crate in a smaller room next to the main warehouse area.

The gunfire didn't last long before Steve's team had taken out all the gunman. Adam had a close call where he could feel a bullet whizz by him, but thankfully it didn't connect with him. HPD started to move in to apprehend all the shooters, men of Radcliffe's who were there as security and hired muscle to keep his stolen goods safe. A few of the men had to be taken in ambulances. Junior and Tani escorted out Radcliffe to be taken to rendition at HQ for questioning.

“This definitely looks like our stolen art and artifacts.” Adam said, eyeing what he could see of a painting in a partially open wooden crate.

Grover peeked over. “That looks like one of the paintings in the file the FBI sent over.”

Steve walked between all the crates. It vaguely reminded him of the warehouse in one of the Indiana Jones movies where all the artifacts were kept by the government, only much smaller. He stopped at a smaller crate which had been left open. He reached for the old and dusty object. It had an inscription on it in a language he couldn't read. He spoke many languages actually, but could only read and write in a few of those other languages. He wiped at the tea pot shaped item. Actually it was much too small to be a teapot and he wasn't really sure what it was.

“Ah, you have finally freed me.” A deep voice from behind him spoke.

In an instant, Steve had dropped the item in the box and whirled around with his sig pulled out and aimed. “Don't move...” He ordered. The man was dressed in robes and had a turban on his head. He looked old and wise, with a gray beard. Where had he come from?

“I'm sorry to scare you my master, but I am only here to serve you.” The man said with a thick middle eastern accent.

“Where did you come from?” He asked, then he tentatively looked around. His team was on the other side of he smaller room, near the door to the main part of the warehouse. This man must have been hiding somewhere.

“I've come from the lamp.” He explained.

Steve scrunched his face up in confusion. What lamp? Why would a lamp be with all these old stolen artifacts and relics? “If you're with Radcliffe, you're under arrest.” He reached around him for his cuffs. “Now place your hands behind your back.”

“Oh no, you misunderstand. I am not with this Radcliffe. I do not even know him.” The man said. “You have freed me master and now I must repay you. What is your inner most wish and desire?”

“What?” Why did he ask him that? “I said to put your hands behind your back.”

The man looked Steve over from head to toe and then just stared for a moment focusing on his chest. “Ah, it is your heart that desires.”

Steve shook his head. This guy was talking nonsense. “You...”

“You've suffered a great loss and now it is fractured. I can help you get what you desire.” He said, speaking even more nonsense to Steve. “You wish to have Catherine back into your life. You wish you'd fought harder for her.”

Wait, how did he know about Catherine. Suddenly Steve relaxed his death grip on his weapon. “How, how do you know about her?” He stammered.

“I can feel it.” The man replied. “If you wish to have her back, I can help you if that is what you want.”

He didn't know why he was doing this, but suddenly he lowered his weapon and answered. “Yes...”

“Then you will go and fight for her.”

Steve was suddenly standing on his porch. He was confused and maybe a little disoriented too. He moved his head around, looking for something, anything to indicate what had just happened. He was just in a warehouse doing a raid wasn't he?

His eyes landed on something at the end of the driveway. It was a car and... “Catherine?” She was getting into the car and suddenly that's when it hit him. This was the day she left. The day he told her he couldn't wait for her as the ring he had planned to give her burned a hole in his pocket. Wait, that man in the warehouse...had he done something? He told Steve to fight. Was it all a dream? Did any of that even happen? He had no idea, but the one thing he did know is that he couldn't let Catherine leave this time.

A second later, he tore after the car. His legs pumping as fast as they could. He ran along side the car as it slowly pulled away and banged on the rear driver's door. The car stopped and he whipped the door open and peered down into the car. “I can't let you leave Catherine.”

Catherine's teary eyes turned to him. “Steve, I...”

“Just listen.” He cut her off. “I love you. I know I don't say it enough and I'm sorry, but I've been in love with you for a long time now and I can't stand it every time we have to part. I thought after you got out of the Navy we could finally be together and maybe start a life together. I can't do it without you Catherine. I'm nothing without you.”

“I have to go Steve, I'm sorry.” She reached over and grabbed at the door. He moved and let her close the door. She motioned for the driver to leave and the car pulled away.

Steve stood and watched the car pull away from his drive as tears pooled up in his eyes. He took a few shuddering breaths and turned back to the house. Maybe it was useless. He'd never get her back. He entered the house and immediately went to the kitchen for a beer. Instead of taking one, he took the whole case and wandered down to the oceanside chairs. He slid into one and cracked open his first beer.

The next morning, Steve opened his eyes when he heard the chair creak next to him. He quickly shut them when he realized how much the early morning sun had made his head pound something fierce. “UGH!!”

“Want to tell me what happened, partner?” Danny asked, noticing all the empty bottles.

He let out a shaky breath before answering. “She's gone, Danny. She left.”

“Who, Catherine?” Catherine had assured Danny she wouldn't break his heart this time. She'd made it seem like she was here for good, but clearly she'd lied to him.

“I laid it all out on the table.” Steve explained, finally able to open his eyes and squint into the sun. “I confessed my love and told her I couldn't live without her, but she left. I wasn't enough for her.” He shook his head. “I told myself I'd never be one of those desperate guys and there I was stupidly running after her car like that would make any kind of difference.”

“Oh buddy, I'm so sorry.” Danny replied, placing a comforting arm on the man's shoulder.

“I blew it. I wasn't enough.” Steve said. “I never told her I loved her enough I guess. I don't know. It just seems like I'm destined to be alone.”

“Whoa, hold on there...” Danny shot back. “You don't really think that do you?”

Steve sighed. “My mom left me, more than once. Then Dad sent me away. Joe, he's not really around much and I know he's kept secrets from me. Mary's never coming back here. Now Catherine. Everyone leave's eventually. I get close to happiness and something comes along to ruin it.”

“Hey, I haven't left you and I don't plan on leaving you.” Danny assured him.

Steve let out a small smile. “Yeah, you've been a good friend Danny and I appreciate that.”

“Why don't we clean this up and get inside. You should probably shower before work cause you smell like a walking bar. Make sure to brush those teeth too.” Danny waved a hand in front of his nose as if fending off the smell.

Steve nodded. “That's probably a good idea.” He grabbed a few empty bottles and started putting them in the case along with Danny. Then they headed up to the house.

As he headed up to his shower, he felt like he'd done this before. Maybe it was some kind of Deja vu. He shook his head at the nonsense thought and stepped into the shower. As the water hit him he vaguely remembered the face of an old, wise man with a beard telling him to fight. He froze for a moment, trying to remember more. It was hazy and out of focus. Memories were there that he felt were slipping away.

Steve finished washing and stepped out of the shower. He quickly dried and wrapped the towel around his waist before stepping into the bedroom. He took a startled step back when he saw Catherine sitting on his bed. “What are you doing here?” He asked. His heart started hammering in his chest.

“Danny let me in.” She answered.

“What do you want?” He then asked. “I thought you had to go?”

“I did, but...” Her eyes swelled up with tears. “I couldn't.”

He didn't understand so he moved closer and sat next to her. “I'm not sure I follow.”

“They threatened you.” She said. “That's why I was gone so long and that's why when I came back I told you I had to go. I came to say goodbye and to make sure you didn't have any blow back from helping me in Afghanistan.”

“What do you mean?” He only had more questions. He remembered before he left Afghanistan that he could have been in serious trouble for being over there as a rogue agent and taking on a terrorist. They told him if he ever set foot back over their they would send him to the brig, no matter how well decorated he was as a seal and a naval officer.

“They wanted to court martial you.” She started explaining. “But when they realized that I was involved, they gave me a proposal. If I worked for the CIA, I would have the help I needed to find Najib and then they would pretend like you were never involved. You would keep your perfect naval record and your status and then they would have me as an asset. I know how much the Navy means to you, so I couldn't let them do that to you.”

“Wait, so they black mailed you?” He asked, anger started to boil up in him.

“Well...” He wasn't exactly wrong.

“Catherine, you should have come to me about this.” He said, trying to hold in his anger.

“I couldn't come to you.” She replied. “They told me I couldn't tell anyone and when I came back here for Kono's wedding, they were very insistent that I act like everything was fine until it was time to leave.”

This was all a revelation for Steve. He never would have guessed she'd be blackmailed by the CIA, though he wasn't all that surprised. “So why did you come back and tell me?”

“Because I figured I owed you the truth after you confessed your love to me yesterday.” She explained. “Because I wanted a life with you and maybe kids and a dog. I wanted to wake up to your face every morning and know that we never had to be apart again. I'm so sorry we can't have that Steve.”

“But why can't we?” He asked, throwing caution to the wind. “To hell with the Navy, let them court martial me.” She looked at Steve in shock. Did he really just say that the Navy could court martial him? He jumped up and moved to the dresser, where he had stashed the ring before he got into the shower and pulled out the small box. He got down on one knee.

“Steve, what...” She watched him open the box to reveal a diamond ring.

“I don't want to lose you and if keeping you means I have to give up the Navy, then so be it.” He placed one hand on her leg, the other holding up the box. “Marry me?”

“Are you serious?” She asked in shock.

A moment later there was a knock on the door and Danny peeked in. “Hey, we're gonna be late for...Whoa!” He stopped mid sentence when he saw Steve down on one knee and holding the ring, dressed in nothing but a towel.

“I've never been more serious or more sure of anything in my life.” Steve said, completely ignoring the fact that Danny was now in the doorway.

Catherine let out a big smile, despite the tears slipping down her cheeks. “Yes, yes I'll marry you.”

Steve reached around her with both arms and pulled her close. His lips found hers instantly and they shared a deep passionate kiss.

“Wow, buddy.” Danny said. “I guess congratulations are in order.”

Steve pulled away from Catherine and turned to his partner, suddenly realizing the man was standing in the door way. “How long have you been standing there?” He asked.

“Long enough.” Danny answered with a grin.

Catherine reached the for the ring and slipped it onto her finger. “It's beautiful.” She said.

“This isn't exactly the proposal I had planned. I was gonna execute the mission tonight at that fancy sushi place you liked.” Steve said.

“The mission?” Danny and Catherine said in unison.

“Proposing is not a mission.” Danny argued.

“I agree with your partner there.”

“So what happens now?” Steve asked. “I'm assuming once they find out we're engaged they'll be coming for me.”

“Wait, who and what?” Danny asked.

“Catherine agreed to join the CIA to keep me from getting court martialed after our little trip to The Stan.”

“Oh...” He wasn't sure what to say to his partner.

“I actually have someone working on an exit strategy for me.” She informed the two men. “I'll fill you in a little later about that. Right now I need some coffee. Danny?” She moved towards him to head out of the room. He followed.

“There's coffee in the kitchen, just made.” He told her as he followed her down. “So this is an interesting turn of events.”

“I'm really sorry about all this.” She said to Danny as she poured herself a cup of coffee. “I never meant to hurt Steve or deceive any of you. The CIA was very clear that I speak of this to no one.”

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Danny and Catherine both turned towards the small hall that lead to the front of the house wondering what all the commotion was.

Steve came barreling down the stairs finally dressed in his usual cargo pants and a dark polo shirt. He had his gun at his side and his badge on. He opened the door cautiously with one hand over his weapon should he need to pull it out quickly. He was met with three serious looking suits. They had to be some kind of agents, two men and one woman. They all wore dark menacing shades and guns at their sides.

“I wouldn't pull that out if I were you.” The graying, balding one said sternly, eyeing Steve's hand over his gun.

“Who are you and what do you want?” He asked.

Catherine and Danny had walked in from the other room. “We're here for her.” The woman agent, who had faded red curly hair, spoke and nodded towards Catherine.

Catherine immediately recognized the woman. She was her handler in the CIA, the one calling all the shots, Agent Grenna

“Well, you're not taking her.” Steve said, standing firm in their way with his arms now crossed.

The woman spotted the ring on Catherine's finger and shook her head. “I should have known you wouldn't be able to let him go. I knew letting you come back here was a bad idea.” She cocked her head to the men behind her. “I guess it's time to take you in Commander.” The two male agents moved around her, intending on taking Steve into custody, but he wouldn't have it.

Steve easily fended both men off, until one pulled a taser on him. “Ah...” His body jerked and he started to slump.

“Hey, you can't do this.” Danny stepped forward when he realized his friend and partner was in a losing battle.

“We can and we will.” The woman said. “We warned Rollins what would happen is she disobeyed us.”

The two men hauled Steve up and cuffed his hands behind his back and started dragging him out when Catherine moved forward and tried to stop him. “Wait, I'll go with you.”

“It's too late for that.” The woman replied, turning and walking out after the men. They loaded Steve into the back of the car and drove away.

Her eyes welled up with tears and her breath shuddered. “This is all my fault. I never should have come here.”

“Hey...” Danny pulled her into his arms. “You didn't know this was going to happen, that they would take him like this. Why don't we go after him, huh? Do you think they took him to their office?”

Catherine nodded cautiously. “Maybe, probably.”

Danny pulled her out to his car. “Tell me where to go and let's do this.”

“Ok...” She got into Danny's car and instructed to drive to the office where she had been the day before getting briefed and ready for her next assignment.

When she arrived, the office was empty. “This can't be good.” Danny assumed.

“We were getting ready to clear out.” Catherine explained. “They were packing things up yesterday when I was getting briefed on my next assignment.”

“Ok, so you mentioned they wanted to court martial him, maybe they took him to the base to be processed?” Danny was only guessing at this point.

“We should check the base.” She agreed.

They checked the base, talking to the admiral and any one else on base that might know something. Unfortunately, they didn't get anywhere. The admiral wasn't informed of anything regarding McGarrett. He heard about his little excursion to The Stan, but understood that the navy officials over there had basically given him a pass.

For next several days, Catherine worked with Danny and the rest of Five-0 trying to locate Steve. They were having no luck. It was almost as if he'd vanished off the face of the earth. She was about to lose hope when Doris of all people walked into the bullpen at HQ.

“Doris, I...” Catherine didn't know what to say. The woman had agreed to help her get out of her deal with the CIA so she could be with Steve, but she didn't expect to see her in person.

“I heard that Steve has gone missing.” Doris replied.

“The CIA took him.” Catherine explained. “I figured they would just take him to be court martialed, but we can't find him anywhere.

At that point the whole team had surrounded Doris. “They never planned to court martial him.” She said.

“What do you mean?” Danny asked.

“Your handler, Agent Grenna? She was a rival of mine back when I was in the CIA.” Doris explained. “One of the ops we were on went sideways and she was pulled from the field. I managed to finish the op, but she's held a grudge against me ever since. She was never allowed field work again after that. Taking Steve was just a ploy to get revenge on me and she would have done so after Afghanistan if she hadn't realized what an asset having you could be. The company always comes first.”

Did anyone not have a grudge against Doris? And why was everyone wanting to take it out on Steve? Danny couldn't understand how he had to suffer for all the misgivings of his mother. First Wo Fat and now this Agent Grenna.

“It's time I do what's best for Steven so he can finally live free and happy. I'm going to turn myself over to them.” Doris said.

“Wait, you can't just give yourself up.” Chin replied.

“It's the only way to get Steve back.” She said, pulling out her cell phone. She dialed a number. “See if you can trace this call.”

Chin moved over to the smart table and pulled up the tracking software. He made a few clicks and nodded that it was tracing the call.

Agent Grenna answered on the third ring. “Well if it isn't Doris McGarrett.” She said.

“I know you have Steve and that you never intended to court martial him.” Doris replied.

“You know that boy of yours is a real fighter. Busted the nose of one of my agents and dislocated the other ones shoulder.” Grenna said. Then with a smirk in her voice she continued. “It was fun making him pay though.”

“Look, we both know that I'm the one you want.” Doris took a heavy breath. “You've been after me for years and couldn't stand it when you realized that I'd gotten out and started a family. You can have me now, but you have to let him go, him and Catherine.”

“Now why should I do that?” Grenna asked.

“I can give you information about several high value targets that I know you were planning on having Catherine try and apprehend. Then you can do whatever you want with me, just leave my son out of this.” She pleaded with Grenna.

“I've got it.” Chin said softly as the tracing software caught a location.

The line was silent for a long minute before Grenna answered. “Fine, you remember where you first saw John. Go there and tell no one. I don't want anyone following you. I'm sure you've already traced this call, so I'll leave Steve here for his team to find.” And suddenly the line went dead.

“She's down at the shipyards.” Chin said.

“She'll be long gone before you get there.” Doris replied. “You guys go and get Steve, make sure he's ok. I'll go and deal with Grenna.”

“Shouldn't some of us come with you?” Kono suggested. “Divide and conquer.”

“No, I should do this alone. If I don't and she slips away she could come after Steve again.” Doris turned to Catherine. “I see how happy you make him. He looks at you the same way John used to look at me with such a fierce and intense love. You two deserve to be happy together. If I don't see him again, tell him I just wanted the two of you to be happy and tell him that I am so proud of him and love him so much. Please tell Mary too.” A tear rolled down her cheek as she pulled Catherine into her for a hug.

“Doris, we can help you...” Catherine tried to argue as they parted.

“Just help Steve and take care of him, please.” She begged before she turned away and walked out of HQ.

“Are we just going to let her leave like that?” Danny asked. What is it with McGarrett's and wanting to handle things on their own all the time.

“She told us to focus on Steve, so I guess that's what we'll do.” Chin replied.

A few minutes later they were all geared up and heading to the ship yard. They weren't sure what they were going to find.

A man stopped them as they entered the yard on foot. He noticed their five-0 patches on their tactical vests. “Hey, I was told to tell you five-0 guys to check container 315.” He pointed down a row. “It's down that way.”

They all moved cautiously towards the container. It was unlocked, so they readied their guns and slowly opened the doors.

“Steve?!” Catherine ran forward instantly when she saw him curled up in a fetal position, body shaking while wearing nothing but a black pair of boxer briefs. Given the smell, she had to guess they were soiled boxer briefs. She knelt next to him and placed a hand on his cold cheek. Cold? How could it have been cold when the container itself felt sweltering hot in the Hawaiian heat. “Steve?” she spoke more softly this time. “Can you hear me?”

“How is he?” Danny asked as Chin was pulling out his phone to call for EMS. He moved closer to get a better look at his friend.

“I'm not sure.” She patted his cheek again and tried to rouse the shaking man. “Steve...”

He finally let out a groan and tried to open his eyes. “Cccold...” He stuttered. His breathing hitched.

“It's ok.” Catherine tried to assure him.

“We've got a bucket here and there's a pile of his clothes in the back corner. I think I see his gun too.” Kono observed.

Danny walked around Steve and Catherine to the corner and grabbed Steve's stuff. It was definitely the clothes he'd had on the morning he was taken.

“EMS will be here in a few minutes.” Chin informed him.

“Cath...” Steve's eyes fell on thew woman in front of him, the love of his life. “You're o o ok.”

“Yeah and I'm even better now that I've found you.” She replied with a smile.

At the hospital Steve was treated for dehydration and a mild case of malnutrition. He had some broken ribs and some pretty gnarly bruising on his torso and stomach, going into this back. The reason he'd been so cold when he was found was because they'd been letting him boil in that container and then they'd cool him off with a bucket of freezing cold ice water. They'd had his wrists bound together and his ankles too. He couldn't eat and barely had a drop of water to drink. They'd had their fun kicking him around after he'd busted up the two guys pretty good. All in all though, Steve was pretty lucky. It could have been worse.

Steve's eyes fell on Catherine who had taken turns with Danny keeping on eye on him while he was in the hospital. “I'm still a little fuzzy on how you found me and why they didn't take me straight to pearl to get me court martialed.” He said. He was trying to eat a container of jello, but he'd never been a fan of it. Doctor wanted him to start with easy and soft food, while he recovered, nothing too heavy.

“Actually, it was your mother who found you.” Cath explained. “She came and...”

“You saw her?” He interrupted, surprised that the woman had come.

“She knew my handler. She said that my handler never intended to court martial you, that she had some vendetta against her and saw Afghanistan as a way to get back at her, through you. When she realized I was involved and what kind of asset I could be, she changed tactics to try and get me into the fold. It worked for a while.” Catherine explained. “The moment I decided I chose you instead, she went back to her first plan, which was to go after you and ultimately you're mother.”

Steve let out a huff of frustration. “Why is it her past is always out to get me?” He asked. “First Wo Fat and now, this? Where is she now? I want to talk with her.”

“I don't know where she is.” She answered.

“What do you mean you don't know?” He pushed his jello away.

“She gave herself up to my handler in exchange for your freedom and I guess mine from the agency so we can be together.”

“When you say she gave herself up...” He suddenly worried. He had this feeling that something bad was going to happen to his mom, but he didn't know what.

Catherine reached for his hand and squeezed it tightly. “She turned herself over to Grenna. I don't know what Grenna will do to her, but she told me to tell you that she just wants us to be happy and that she's proud of you and she loves you.”

“She gave herself up for us?” He asked.

She shook her head. “Yeah, so I think we should make the most of it.” She leaned in closer and he met her halfway, their lips touching and kissing.

“I love you Catherine.” He said, pulling her over to the bed and feeling the need to have her close.

“I love you too.” She replied, curling into him.

He closed his eyes for a moment trying to savor the moment, but when he opened them he was standing in a warehouse holding a teapot looking thing. “What the hell?” His eyes darted around. Everything suddenly came back to him. Kono's wedding, his wedding, the transplant, the baby, the radiation poisoning. Wait, his wedding? The baby? He looked down at the object in his hand again.

“What are you expecting a genie to come outta that thing?” Danny asked, walking up behind him.

He turned to Danny. “Was there, did you see an old man in a turban?”

“Uh, no...” Danny looked at his partner curiously. “Just Radcliffe and his men. FBI will be happy to have all these stolen artifacts back. Now they can be returned to their proper museums and owners. You better put that thing back before you accidentally blow it up or something.”

“What?” Steve set it back in to the box. “How would I do that?”

“Oh that's right, you don't carry grenades on you now that you're a dad.” Danny shot back with a snort.

“Yeah that would be pretty irresponsible of me.” He replied.

“That never stopped you before.” Danny lead the man out of the building. “Grover is headed over to HQ and he's going to interrogate Radcliffe with Tani and Junior. Adam and I can stay and coordinate getting things packed up for the FBI. Why don't you head home to the family?”

Steve eyed Danny. “Are you sure? I could stay and help.”

“We've been working late every night this week, so take off a little early and get some family time in. We can handle this.” Danny assured him. “Oh and don't forget the family BBQ Sunday. Grace and Charlie are really looking forward to it.”

Steve gave him a grin. “How could I forget man. I'll see you tomorrow.” He said taking off to his truck.

He drove home and walked into an empty house. Well, some of the lights were on so that meant someone was home somewhere. He heard Eddie barking outside on the lanai and walked out to him. The dog nearly tackled him in excitement. “Ok, buddy, just calm down.” He petted the dog quickly before he walked down to the beach where he saw his wife standing in the water with their son.

“Hey, Sailor.” She greeted with a smile. “Would you like to join us?”

Steve grinned back at her and started stripping his clothes right there on the beach. He waded out into the water wearing nothing but his boxer briefs. “Ah, Daddy.” His son squealed in excitement, hands flapping the water and splashing. He had a little swimming vest on to help him float.

Steve moved a little ways away from them and put his arms out, coaxing. “Do you want to swim to Daddy?” His son squealed again and put his arms out. Then he started kicking his little legs. “That's it, buddy, you're doing great.” His son was a fish. Like father, like son. Catherine was always a good swimmer and enjoyed the water, but she didn't have the same relation ship with it that Steve did. The water was his calm and happy place, when he wasn't with Cath anyways. It helped to ease his mind whenever he had a bad day and just needed to think or even relax. There was something to be said for the smell of the sea water and the sound of the waves, the feel of the water.

“I can't believe this is our life.” Catherine said swimming closer to her two favorite men.

“This is what I've always wanted with you, Cath. You make me so happy.” He replied as his son floated next to him, kicking the water and splashing the two of them.

“Our little life, with our little family, or our big family if you count the one you forged when you came back to Hawaii, and our little slice of paradise. It doesn't get much better than this.” She said.

“No it doesn't.” He reached over and placed a kiss on her lips as their little man tried to butt in between with his lips curled up waiting for his own kiss. They both moved lowered their faces and kissed the cheeks of their little man.

And all it took was one simple little wish...
